    Just stopped using Mach 4 as I loved running in them. But my knees hated them. A shame. But also a blessing as this guy says it doesn't feel like a true hoka to me, especially in the mid foot. As usual the same thing came to the rescue.... Clifton 8s!!...Cant recommend them enough from tempo to forgiving less paced runs. Softer in the middle then the 7s and wider in the toe box. Almost takes me back to the 1s. 50 miles in and much happier knees

      Please tell me more about the Clifton 8. I have the v6, and really think it's a great shoe. I run in that and the NB More 3. My understanding is the v6 and 7 are the same shoe, and the 8 is a bit different. One reviewer said the 8 was not as cushioned as the 7, but you say it's more. IDK what to do. 1st world problem. ty

    • @RunMoore
      @RunMoore  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RunMoore SO more cushioning is better for walking? And there is a Clifton and Clifton edge..any suggestions between the 2

    • @RunMoore
      @RunMoore  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@goutfromfriedokra7099 Typically you want more cushion when walking compared to running the same distance because you are on your feet longer when walking. Likely the Clifton would be better for your purposes than the Edge. The protruding heel of the Edge is designed for intense heel striking while running, but sprinting should keep you on your toes.

    Bought a pair of Hoka Rincons after I tried walking NYC for 3 days straight in a pair of Adidas high tops that ended up killing my feet. Now that I have shoes that are actually comfortable I’m considering getting back into running. Been a long time since I’ve been able to put up 8-10 miles a day. I just discovered this company and I have nothing but praise for them.

You mention the Mach 4 will be good to ~400 miles, is it your experience that the Mach 4 is as durable as the Clifton 8? Bang for the buck$, my rank order is: Rincon 3, Clifton 8...and Mach 4.

    I use the Speedgoat 5 on trail runs which are always over 10-20 miles (training for a 50K) and really like them so far. I also do some road training for distances below 10 miles out of necessity. Between the Mach 4 and Clifton 8, which are most comparable to the Speedgoat in terms of type of cushion, design, and "feel" if I was looking for my "road version".

    I’m struggling to find the right Hoka for me. I’ve tried on the Rincon 3, Clifton 8, and Mach 4. Interestingly I found the Clifton to be tight in the mid-foot and had to go with the 2E width and size down to 9.5 on Clifton whereas size 10 on Rincon and Mach. I REALLY want to love one of these shoes but wasn’t totally feeling it the other day. I’ve never needed to buy a wide shoe before so found it interesting that the Cliftons seem to run narrow? I think overall I found the Rincon to be the most comfortable. Thanks for the great content.

    Can you suggest which Hoka will work best for group gym classes from weight lifting to cross train classes? I tried my Arahis today in a Boot Camp. They were not comfortable for that especially during lateral jumps. I have sesmoiditis on my right foot, so I really need to protect it. I tried my Asics 2160 in a cross train class last week. They did not protect my bad toe during box jumps.

    • @RunMoore

      We wouldn't recommend Hoka's for cross-training. If we did, our recommendation would be the Mach 5. Even though it is considered neutral, the lower stack height helps more with lateral jumping than the stability of the Arahi. If you aren't brand loyal to Hoka / Asics, we recommend trying out the Brooks Launch GTS 10 or the Altra Provision 8. They are both stability shoes like the Arahi. However, they have a shorter stack height, making them feel more balanced.

    I have flat feet but since Ive already got my custom orthotics, I've been looking for a neutral shoe to insert the orthotics (since stability shoe + custom orthotics would be too much and overcorrect my feet). I know that super cushiony/plushy shoes (e.g. bondi) aren't good for flat feet so I was trying to get a shoe with a somewhat stiff/firm midsole and heel cup + wide footprint would also be beneficial.
    I was wondering if the upper material also affect the stability of the shoes? I've looked through the HOKA website and it seemed like Gaviota and Arahi have firmer upper vs. Mach and Clifton (

    Hey Run Moore
    I’ve got a pair of M4’s and am loving the nimble, responsive, dual foam of them. I’m 150 miles and experiencing some pretty bad uneven wear on the forefoot and other areas in the outsole Would it be wise to buy the Clifton’s to switch between for the durability? Or a back up of Mach 4’s?

    • @RunMoore
      @RunMoore  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both the Hoka Clifton and Hoka Kawana have more outsole durability than the Mach 4, the Kawana being the slightly higher cushion version of the Mach. Either of these or another pair of Machs to rotate would increase durability. Also keep in mind that if your forefoot wear is particularly uneven, or concentrated towards the inside of your forefoot, it may mean you need more stability in your shoe.

    Hey! I just got home the Mach 4, however I feel that the shoe is a little to tight on one foot. So i wonder, does the shoe stretch after a couple of runs or do i make a wise decision to pick another shoe instead?

    • @RunMoore
      @RunMoore  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They will not stretch substantially, the best thing to do is to size up. when fitting shoes, you always fit to the larger foot.

    Hi, I'm a brisk walker and went from a NB 1080v11 to the clifton7 because I can go faster and farther with better feel on asphalt and concrete. Is the Rincon 3 a softer impact say between the two??

    • @RunMoore
      @RunMoore  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Rincon is a light cushion model from Hoka. So in comparison to the Clifton and the 1080, it is not going to have the same amount of cushion.

    Do these run narrow around the mid foot - I bought a pair of Clifton 7 and almost felt like there was a bump under my instep? I took them back after one run .. I did find they were very nice and springy though. At the moment I am using GEL Nimbus 23 2E because they accomodate my width

    • @RunMoore
      @RunMoore  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Clifton would likely be the best choice. When starting out, it's important to have a good amount of cushion to ease into it and prevent shin splints.

    Hi. I've had previous Clifton's and had a bit of a problem with it pushing into the arch of my foot. I have read that other people say the same. Is it still the case with the latest model?

    • @michaelbell6041
      @michaelbell6041 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That was my experience as well but I do have flat feet. The cliftons gave me a really nasty blister. I can run in the rincon though.

    • @tropicalcycling
      @tropicalcycling 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've got two paid of Clifton 8s and a Mach 4. Clifton digs into my arch on both pairs. Mach 4 doesn't have this problem at all. I'm going to try a size down in the Cliftons and see if it makes a difference, but feel like anything more than a 10k and the Cliftons will sit that run out.

    • @RunMoore
      @RunMoore  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! There have been minor changes made to the arch in the Clifton 8 arch, but if you have had issues with past models it is possible that you will experience the same discomfort in the new model. People with lower arches may find the new model more comfortable with the slight changes that have been made, though it may continue to push into your arch the same way the older models did since the change was subtle.

    I'm curious how the Cliftons are described as the shoes with the most forgiving width? Is it only because they come in wide? The standard width Cliftons are easily the narrowest of this group of shoes.

    • @RunMoore
      @RunMoore  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They do come in wide, but they are the most forgiving in the stretch of the fabric.

    • @RunMoore

    I work at amazon. A lot of other associates wear hoka but they're all different looks all but slightly off from each other.
    I feel like I have messed my feet up now due to how much I walk, with the wrong shoe.
    I currently have 2 pairs of insoles in my shoes and they actually feel great... for 4 hours or so. The next 6 hours my feet want to fall off. Knees hurting do not help but I just need help.
    If someone who is knowledgeable about hoka shoes(or the creator), would there be any specific one I should check out? There is a place near me that sells them so I am going to try a few different ones out, later this week. I have a light but heavy step(if that makes sense). When I walk I am quiet but with every step it is heavy.
    Any insight would help.... not a runner.
    5'10 210-220lbs for prospective of my body and height.
    Thanks!
