Why did you say the Central Park 5 were exonerated? The sentence was vacated, which is completely different than exonerated. Not all of them were black either. 2 were Latino. Where were the "corrections" in that segment?
Bill Cosby's sentence was vacated. Was he exonerated in your opinion?

Usually its hard to disagree w you destiny but i dont think its a mute point. Theres still plenty of politicians who were part of these parties like biden whos mentor was part of the KKK. It may be different for us today, but for them its not. Now you can call me a concspirqcy theorist but i find it hard to believe its different for these old politicians and before trump biden literally had a 40 yr political career known specifically for being a liar, and was called out many times and plagiarized speeches. I think both parties are fucked and corrupt but to act like these arguments hold no water whatsoever when you theres still some of the people in power is insane

I know a guy like Alec but in worse shape . He’s from Arkansas and very insecure about his conservative past. He overcompensates this a lot and he can barely have a conversation without getting emotional. One time he got so angry over in VC because someone criticized China or something and he broke his headphones. Maturity level is like a toddler.
Sometimes he would say things that are basically horseshoe theory coming true. I’m Asian and he would say things like “I don’t know why people would say your English is bad. I can understand you most of the time. You’re pretty good! Don’t feel shy”. Nobody was saying they couldn’t understand me and I’m not shy. English is official language where I live lol I just don’t have an American accent because I’m not an American.

A sociology teacher I had(who was a black old school feminist but had tons of controversial opinions that pissed off the hard lefties of my school) had a theory that one of the factors leading to minority students performing worse once they are in schools is the omnipresent negative and fatalistic racial politics, while she agreed with most social critiques of race/racism she saw that the ideology lead previously well adjusted black students to become extremely disaffected, extremely depressed and often extremely isolated from the many non black students whom could materially benefit them via networking, it also seemed to push many black students into majors in less beneficial fields(identity based social sciences).
It's funny she advocated a sort of constructive post truth idea(obvi post truth tends to have a very negative connotation now) where black students to some extent would be benefited by reframing things to justify their belonging in the college rather than their not belonging(similar to the concept at play in Hamilton she said students could easily imagine that the founder of the college was part black due to his features and she said whether or not this is 'true' it would benefit black students to hold this belief that justifies their presence at the school).
From what I experienced at my college this whole concept seemed super apt.

Il ne honest this take usually comes from academic encapsulated types...... and not puerile actually in the trenches, figuratively speaking.
Did black students become depressed and isolated due to their mindset or due to their environment? I'm not sure if you've ever experienced the level of isolation of never having a black teacher, being the only black kid in class, or being in a work place where you are the only black voice.....
I had my first black teacher in 8th grade. My second in hs..... my 3rd and 4th were my senior year of college. I have never worked with another black male professional with the same credentials as myself and I've been in my field for 11 years.
Some may say I am cynical but I wasn't always this way. I became this way due to consistent negative events that occurred in my environment..... not the other way around

    • @hrolfthestrange

@@justinkozak7779 I mean the person I'm citing had a lot of these experiences and described being 1 of only 3-4 black students at her college at the time. I'm not saying(and I don't think she was saying) this is the only reason black students struggle once they are admitted in colleges, but I think it is a factor. Repeatedly emphasizing and fixating upon the fact that 'this place wasn't made for you' can't alleviate that same impression which might organically be experienced and figuring out a way to be fine emotionally and socially(by creating your own belief) would probably be helpful for someone who does feel isolated. I'm not saying this as like 'everyone should see this is the objective truth' but it's something to consider, like it's not different than some of the afrocentrism ideas, building a history where maybe there's not objective 'fact' behind it but it provides some sort of motivating and calming structure to your life is definitely helpful for many(even if it's not the key for everyone).

Welfare did not break up The Black Family. The family was already broken due to a number of reasons. Many of those black women that received welfare qualified because the man was already gone. It is documented that Black men have been abandoning their families as early as the 1930's. Black women could not apply for welfare at that time. It wasn't until the 60's when black women were able to get welfare and divorce the husbands that were already gone, so of course there was an increase in those areas. Everybody had welfare, why did welfare only "destroy" the black community? The argument that welfare was created to break up the black family is weak.

16:00 I had a colleague in my Masters who was a Blind Black woman and during job interviews she attributed all of her non-offers and poor interviews to racism despite the fact that the interviewers were predominately either blind, black, or both. She also used to complain constantly when people would offer to help her around town assuming it was white people looking down on her and infantalizing her by calling her "honey", "baby", "sweetheart", etc.(That's the norm in Louisiana regardless of race or sex). What she failed to realize was that the city is just over half Black and many of the people she was complaining about assuming they were white were actually black but she assumed they were all being racist at her.
it reminded me of how growin' up once the internet & Social Media blew up when I was in High School some of my black friends would freak out about security followin' them at the boardwalk and attribute it to racism ('cause that's what they saw online) but the boardwalk's policy is for security to keep an eye on the youngest people there at the time and to prioritize groups of young people; the city's 60% black so just followin' black people wouldn't make much sense and would just waste time & resources. But people see it online as a problem elsewhere for people they consider themselves connected to and want to bring that tribal bullshit down here.

Clarence Thomas never went to Harvard, he went to Yale. And when he graduated he said it was hard for him to find work because employers only believed he received his degree because of affirmative action, so it might have helped but it also worked against him when it really mattered. He graduated from Yale law and has no job offers from major firms.

Okay Alec wasn't fully wrong about the light skin girl. The treatment of light skin women is different and the affects of racism manifest slightly different. However, she is very obviously mixed. I don't know what the fudge that man was smoking with his comment. I agree her hair makes it the most obvious (I made that comment myself when I watched the video and she said what she said) but she is not close enough to white passing for her to walk around and be accepted as white

It's an absurd comment. Racism and "institutional" racism are absurdly complex issues, and trying to flatten them down to a sliding scale where color alone determines racial experience is absurd, and ironically somewhat racist. I am a black guy, thankfully I haven't experienced that much of racism and God willing won't in the future. That has everything to do with class, and little to do with color. What Alec has done is flatten a complicated and nuanced issue into a slider value because his smug self can't stand to actually engage with the world and he's looking for any reason to invalidate what someone says when they disagree with him instead of actually discussing the issue.

    • @jadenj.4753
      @jadenj.4753 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

@chillin5703 I see your point. I don't know if I'll go as far as to say it's absurd. It is squishing a complex issue into a small box, but the degree of racism (and forms of it) you experience can be dependent on your skin tone. You could say it's closer to colorism. I don't think it's a class issue at all, besides maybe your economic class influencing your environment. I experienced racism in both high and low income areas. I definitely agree though, that Alec was saying it as a way to brush off homegirls' viewpoint instead of engaging with the idea that not everyone experiences the same racism based on other facts besides how "white passing" they are. It's just ignorant liberal shit in my opinion, lol

@@jadenj.4753 they can be influenced by your skin color, and all factors being equal there are definitely correlative trends. But all factors are usually not equal. A lightskin girl from the hood is probably staying in the hood while a black-black middle class man will probably stay middle class. What has a greater effect on each life experience...?

Maybe I need to be regailed on the CP5 incident, but it seemed to me years ago after reading the evidence and the interrogation footage that they were involved within the group causing damage and nearly beating/raping a woman to death. Not necessarily guilty but not nearly as innocent as that atrocious Netflix doc depicted I really don't want to believe that a group of pre teens (excluding Antron because he wasn't a minor) would be capable of rape.

  • @EasyLawBot1

Thanks @Destiny for posting this video about affirmative action / supreme court. Here are the viewpoints expressed by Supreme Court justices regarding affirmative action.
    1) This case is about a group called Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA) who sued Harvard College and the University of North Carolina (UNC). They said that these schools were not fair in their admissions process because they were using race as a factor, which they believed was against the law. The law they referred to is the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment*.
    2) The Equal Protection Clause is a part of the Fourteenth Amendment that says that every person should be treated equally by the law, no matter their race, color, or nationality. The SFFA believed that by considering race in admissions, Harvard and UNC were not treating all applicants equally.
    3) The Court looked at the history of the Fourteenth Amendment and how it has been used in the past. They also looked at how other cases involving race and college admissions were handled. They found that while diversity in a student body can be a good thing, it must be handled in a way that treats all applicants fairly and equally.
    4) The Court also looked at the idea of "strict scrutiny*". This is a way for the courts to look at laws to see if they are fair and necessary. If a law or policy is found to be unfair or unnecessary, it may not pass strict scrutiny and could be considered unconstitutional.
    5) The Court found that the admissions systems at Harvard and UNC did not pass strict scrutiny. They said that the schools' use of race in admissions was not clear or specific enough, and it resulted in fewer admissions for certain racial groups. They also said that the schools' use of race in admissions seemed to stereotype certain racial groups, which is not allowed.
    6) The Court also said that the schools' admissions systems did not have a clear end point. This means that there was no clear plan for when the schools would stop using race as a factor in admissions. This was another reason why the Court said the schools' admissions systems were not fair.
    7) The Court decided that the admissions systems at Harvard and UNC were not fair and did not follow the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. They said that the schools' use of race in admissions was not clear, specific, or fair enough to be allowed.
    8) However, the Court also said that schools can consider how race has affected an applicant's life. They can look at how an applicant's experiences with their race have shaped them and what they can bring to the school because of those experiences.
    9) In the end, the Court decided that the admissions systems at Harvard and UNC were not fair and did not follow the law. They said that the schools' use of race in admissions was not allowed because it was not clear, specific, or fair enough.
    10) So, the Court decided that the SFFA was right. They said that Harvard and UNC were not treating all applicants equally in their admissions process, which is against the law. They said that the schools needed to change their admissions systems to be fair to all applicants, no matter their race.
*The Equal Protection Clause is a part of the Fourteenth Amendment that says that every person should be treated equally by the law, no matter their race, color, or nationality.
*Strict scrutiny is a way for the courts to look at laws to see if they are fair and necessary. If a law or policy is found to be unfair or unnecessary, it may not pass strict scrutiny and could be considered unconstitutional.

Last comment is wild and honestly kinda insulting. Colorism and featurism are real issues absolutely, but the whole point of understanding racism is comprehending its a complex issue and not a single value slider. Having lighter skin and curlier hair did not stop rodney king from being beat half to death for no reason. When youre dealing with racism and experiences with racism, youre dealing with tons of factors plus individualized random experiences and how people relate to them. I haven't experienced much in the way of racism in my life... Because of my social class. The way i talk, thing i like, comport and such, they benefit my own life. Yet at the same time, thats only my interpretation of things. Many people have probably thought racist things about me, and vocalized them with me none the wiser, and that couldve affected my life. But i cant really know...
