Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL galaxy. Yes the girls are BABYMETAL, the musicians are their support in all live shows - they are the Kami Band (kami means god or spirit, so they are the gods of guitar bass and drums summoned from the dead to support BABYMETAL in all their live shows - which is why they are in traditional burial robes and corpse face paint).
The Kami Band are among the very best session musicians in Japan. At this show they were Mikio Fujioka (RIP) and Leda Cygnus on guitars. BOH with his 6 string bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums. I think the more you hear you more you will be impressed by Hideki Aoyama, I am no drummer but from all I've heard he is both relentless and accurate and he keeps up those double bass kicks what seems like almost endlessly.
BABYMETAL are Su-metal (lead vocals and dance), Yuimetal and Moametal (scream and dance - in this instance 'scream' means backing vocals, harmonies, leading crowd chants and getting the crowd involved). This was their first major event outside of Asia - you said they seemed popular ... 30 minutes earlier 99% of the 60,000 people in the crowd had never heard of them.
Su was 16, Yui and Moa just past their 15th birthdays (Moa's was the day before).
BABYMETAL formed in 2010 as a sub-unit of a Jpop Idol group and are a fusion of metal with Jpop aesthetics - like the clean vocals and choreo for example. They invented their own genre and they have expanded that to blend many different musical styles and genres with the metal - and they have songs in virtually every metal genre. It is just as well the Kami band are able to play anything.
They were formed and developed around Su-metal's vocal talents and stage presence - even though she was only 12, Yui and Moa 11, when they started.
The Kami Band were phased in from late 2012 at first only playing at a couple of festivals in japan and the encores in some shows. They became the full time support in all live shows early in 2014 and have been with BABYMETAL ever since.
For the US and European tours of 2019 and 2020 the Kami Band of the West (American musicians) supported BABYMETAL as the tours were lengthy and clashed with the Kami Band of the East's own projects and obligations. The drummer with the Kami Band of the West is Anthony Barone once of Shadow of Intent.
I think you would probably get a kick out of BABYMETAL's take on prog metal - 'Tales of the Destinies' which pays homage to Dream Theater. They have only ever played it live once - at the Tokyo Dome in 2016 (they sold it out two nights running - 55,000 people each night and a completely different set list each night as well.
This is a video of that performance you can use for a reaction th-cam.com/video/UY0UPwKdXFk/w-d-xo.html In the description you will find a link to the same video without the watermark logo obscuring it, so you can watch that and put the one with the logo in your reaction video so it won't be blocked.

Kami is also a homophone for the word "hair," so not only are they gods, they're also paying homage to the many "hair bands" of classic metal music

Once upon a time, in the little underground metal scene in Tokyo, there was a dude that was called *Key Kobayashi* and had a dream, to modernize heavy metal and make it get to newer audiences. At that time, late 2000s, he was working on a bakery on music festivals and that opened him the doors to the industry, where he entered a medium sized japanese label by the name of Amuse to work as a little producer. In 2008, among the artists Amuse managed there was a children band formed by three girls that had a hit song in an anime that year, named *Karen Girls,* that was formed by three little girls of 9/10 years old. One of them was *Sū (Suzuka Nakamoto),* and she quickly drew the attention of mr.Kobayashi (Koba); she was aiming to become a J-Pop idol but in addition to her stage presence due to her training as an actress since she was really small, her voice was rough, sharp, powerful; unfit for a pop singer. And being the metal fan he was, he looked at the little girl and thought: _hey, why don't she..._
A year later *Karen Girls* was disbanded and Amuse, with *Koba* in the team, started to work in a project that simulated an idol middle school with girls in training for the show business, that went by the name of *Sakura Gakuin* (Cherry Blossom School). The middle school had some after class clubs that acted as sub-units with their own themes for songs: bakery club, science club...heavy music club. Koba had convinced Amuse to let *Suzuka* on his care and start his project of making a heavy metal band with little idols. Suzuka was put in the metal club and to accompany her they took the two tiniest girls in the show, *Moa* and *Yui,* that would act as dancers around her. Inside the club, they founded a band, and the name was a pun to the word Heavy Metal _(hebimeta_ in japanese), *Babymetal.* They made their first appearance on a *Sakura Gakuin* festival in late 2010 (12/11/11 years old), but as the show went on the band started to grow in relevance and Babymetal was the most demanded thing inside Sakura Gakuin. In early 2012 they made their first full show, still under the scope of Sakura Gakuin. The first was in front of a couple of hundreds persons at the Rock May Kan, but at the start of 2013 they were playing already in front of thousands of persons in live houses and by the end of 2013, *Babymetal went independent* from Sakura Gakuin for the first during their Legend 1997 show at Makuhari Messe, in front of 13.000 persons. There the video of *Gimme Chocolate!* was recorded and it suddenly went viral around the world *(140 million* views nowadays). They went popular around the world but that thing of japanese girls doing metal was not well received by the more grassroots part of the metal scene. In 2014 they went on world tour and this was one of their first concerts outside Japan, at Sonisphere in front of 60.000. The girls still mention that moment nowadays, on how afraid were them at that moment to not be accepted on that stage and how important was for them to have won that audience. In the end, when they left, the audience was crying for more songs.
To this day, they have created a genre *(Kawaii Metal),* a cultural phenomenon that has created a market trend of interest for japanese girls' metal and rock bands and have become the biggest japanese band out of Japan ever.
Their drummer is *Hideki Aoyama,* he is pretty good. I would advice you to go for *Road of Resistance* next, but be careful as they usually block that video, put a logo or something to get around it.

The drummer, Hideki Aoyama, is a beast! Their concerts are usually close to 1.5 hours long and because most BABYMETAL songs are high energy, he has to play this level of intensity if not more for that whole time except for maybe 1 or 2 slow songs that they might perform. The musicians are called the "Kami Band". "Kami" means god in Japanese, and these guys are like gods of music. They are all men and are Japan's best musicians. They are wearing burial gowns and corpse face paint because in the BABYMETAL legend/fantasy/storyline, the "Fox God" raises the musicians from the dead and calls upon them to play the music for the girls for each concert. The 3 girls have been chosen by the "Fox God" to unite the world through metal.

This was 7 years ago and the lead singer, SuMetal, was just 16 and a half while Yui and Moa, the backing singers and dancers, were 15. They appeared here, at one of the UK's biggest Metal fests, in front of 65,000 Metal heads who hadn't heard of them and, as you can see, killed it. At the moment, they are halfway through a series of 10 concerts at Budokan, where only invited bands get to play (The Beatles got 3 nights there, Dylan just the one night, Deep Purple the same- all of which were recorded as albums). They were voted #10 in the best 100 Metal bands of all time by Metal Hammer magazine. I saw Sabbath in 1976 and Babymetal last year and they are the most innovative and refreshing band to hit the Metal world for at least a decade. I see you noticed Su's vocals, even though she was so young here. She is a soprano with a range of C4 to G#5.

The drummer is Hideki Aoyama and is a beast.
The girls are BABYMETAL, their live band is the Kami Band (Spirit/God Band) and are so named because they are the Gods of their respective instruments Guitars, Bass, and Drums.
The Kami band wears Japanese Burial Robes. This song title translates to No More Bullying Forever, and they tend to have a positive message in their music.
People will be along soon with much more in depth info, but if you really want to see what Hideki can do check out Road of Resistance live in Japan, hopefully it wont get blocked.

Babymetal in the most popular and famous Japanese group/band in the World. This is from the 2014 Sonisphere Metal Festival in the UK. The girls are 16 and 15 yo. In a 30 minute set they blew up the Festival!! Plus their merchandise out sold all the other bands such as Iron Maiden and Metallica. 95% of the audience had no idea who Babymetal was at the start of their set. The girls are Su Metal, singer; Moametal and Yuimetal, dance and scream. The band is the Kamiband, the drummer is Hideki Aoyama (a Guy).
Babymetal was created in 2010 when the girls were 13 and 11 yo. They already been professionally performing since they 6 yo. The 2014 Sonisphere was their first tour to Europe. Since that time; first Japanese band to play Wembley Arena (UK), sold-out the LA Forum, and sold-out the Tokyo Dome 2 nights running capacity 55,000. Tickets to their concerts are by lottery as any of their concerts are sellouts anywhere in the world. As the to awards 2015 Vogue Japan Women of the Year, named the 10th greatest metal band by Metal Hammer magazine. Their 3rd album Metal Galaxy charted #1 on Billboard's Top Rock and Top Hard Rock lists.

Thanks for the reaction! This was their first festival performance outside of Japan. Sonisphere 2014 invited them to perform at one of the smaller stages (probably several thousand fans) but then upgraded them to the mainstage when they blew up online with the song Gimme Chocolate. The crowd at Sonisphere has a reputation of treating bands they don't like very poorly (throwing bottles of urine for example) and since Babymetal is not a traditional metal band, they were worried how they would be received. They were also early in the day which often reduces the crowd since people are recovering from the night before. Finally, they couldn't see the crowd from backstage so they weren't sure if there would be anyone there, or their mood before they hit the stage. When they came out they were facing between 40,000-65,000 people (reports differ) and by the end of their five song set, they had won the day in what their fans call "The Miracle at Sonisphere". You can here some chanting at the end of the video for "one more song".

This legendary 30+ minute set in BABYMETAL history is called by some the "Miracle at Sonisphere". Imagine being 15-16 years old originally set for a small side tent (expecting maybe a couple thousand to show) to being upgraded a couple months before the show to the main stage in front of 65,000+ people. You are nervous because this is your first tour outside of your home country (Japan) and you know that 95+% of these people never heard of you, some came to hate on you (based on their videos up to this point like "Gimme Chocolate" which had gone viral a few months before and thought they were a joke or gimmick), and the UK Sonisphere crowd are known to throw stuff at the acts if they don't like them! But by the end of their 30-ish minute set, the crowd is chanting "We want more! We want more!", which you can see and hear at the end of this video. They had the largest pits and wall of death's, as well as sold the most merch out of all the acts performing at that event (Metallica, Iron Maiden, etc). They'd been getting good reviews and got booked at Sonisphere. There was some worry about their reception, but they went down very well and after that moved to bigger tour venues. The girls are Su-metal, Yuimetal and Moametal (16, 15 and 15 years old respectively). They had been in the Japanese idol system for quite a few years already and so were experienced performers inside Japan, but this was a step up. The band is the "Kami Band (Kami are Shinto spirits) and they were assembled so that Babymetal (the three girls) could tour and get beyond the usual recorded backing track of an idol group.
The song itself is an anti-bullying anthem with Yui and Moa fighting and Su breaking things up.

this is when three little girls came to a metal festival and kicked ass. this was their first festival outside of Japan. they had been moved to the main stage earlier and they thought that there would be no body there to see them, maybe 5000 or 6000 people. when they tried to look out they couldnt see the crowd til they came out on stage and saw 50,000 people. Su, the lead singer, was 16 years old at that time and the other two had just turned 15 years old. their merch outsold every other band even three days later. this song is about bullying. that is why they looked like they were fighting. you can NOT put Babymetal in a box since they do so many different styles, like 25 or more. Babymetal created Kawaii metal, cute metal. Babymetal was formed to blend J-pop and metal together for something different. if you want to see the true work of their drummer you have to do Amore from Wembley 2016. the drummer double basses non stop in that song. also Babymetal makes you feel good and happy listening to them. Su, the lead singer, is one of the best front people, male or female, of any band. you go to a Babymetal show is a performance to enjoy.

On the 2014 Labor Day weekend (less than two months after the groundbreaking event at Sonisphere on July the 5th where there were 120 bands that took part in the event) I decided to count the number of views on TH-cam of the festival (performance videos, interviews, and more including comedians and the Iron Maiden air show (it was a slow weekend)).
    The result was as follows:
All 120 bands (which included the likes of Metallica, Iron Maiden, Prodigy, Limp Bizkit, Deftones, Alice in Chains, Slayer, Dream Theater, Anthrax, Ghost, Him, Mastodon, Frank Turner, etc.) - totaled views wound up numbering 968,225.
BABYMETAL (by themselves (although they may have cheated having a huge social media advantage from Asia) = 3,030,219 views (more than three times the number of all the other bands combined). Well done to the BABYMETAL team. They make me feel like a proud uncle.

I'm sure there are many comments telling you this already, but the drummer is Hideki Aoyama. He might not be the most technical drummer in the world, but he is known for being fast, precise and having excellent stamina. Although, there was this one time back in 2016, after the second night in a row performing at the Tokyo Dome, where he literally had to be carried off stage. They closed the show with this very song you just listened to, but the girls saying good bye to the audience stretched the normal 6 minute playtime into well over 11 minutes, and he just couldn't stand up afterwards :-)
If you want to see him go all out, listen to the power metal anthem "Road of Resistance". If you want to listen to something much more technical, as in full-on progressive metal, listen to "Tales of the Destinies". But personally I think some of the best drums in any Babymetal song can be found in "Akatsuki" (which also has an excellent dual guitar bit).

I love BABYMETAL, most entertaining band ever! The question "Who is BABYMETAL" is not that easy to answer. If you ask their management, it's just the three girls. If you ask me or many other fans, the instrumentalists are an integral part of the band, even though they are session musicians and the lineup is not fixed (but has been pretty stable for years). But it gets more complicated: One of the three girls has left in 2018, and even though her spot is filled with three different dancers on rotation, officially BABYMETAL now only consists of the remaining two. Makes sense? I know, it doesn't.
However, the important thing is, everything they do is on an amazingly high level. There are so many elements to their shows, the instrumentalists, the vocals, the choreographies, the theatrics, the crowd participation, the energy... and everything is top notch. And then there's the smiles and positivity that are not that common in Metal. To me they have taken Metal to a whole new level. I have been a metalhead since about 1985, and over the years my favourite bands have been Iron Maiden, Metallica and Dream Theater, but I have never adored any band as much as I do with BABYMETAL.
This particular song is an anti-bullying song. That's why you see the girls fighting, their choreography is usually not just a bunch of moves taken from the usual grab bag, it does contribute to the song and its message most of the time. Since you noticed that "the crowd loves them", it's also worth noting that this was their first big show in the West. Most of the people in that crowd have never heard of them before, and the girls expected to get a rough treatment, but as you can see, the left them wanting more. It's a great moment for any fan to see.
I think you might enjoy "Road of Resistance", another fast paced, but more varied song. You'd have to pause a few times and maybe use a logo overlay or something on top of the video to keep a reaction from getting blocked. th-cam.com/video/zTEYUFgLveY/w-d-xo.html

As other's have said the drummer here is Hideki Aoyama (wearing a wig). He has been the main drummer for Babymetal. His late father was an accomplished drummer also. As with all members of the Kami band he has other projects going on. There are other drummers that have filled in such as Yuya Maeta. Aside from BOH the bald bass player, if the band member's hair is not long enough they wear a wig. I am surprised you have been in the music industry for 30 years and never heard of Babymetal, even in passing.. Maybe it's a Reactor's thing to say lol. You said you have been listening to Japanese music lately. What groups/musicians?
Kami Band Members here are: (from viewing L to R)
Mikio Fujioka on Guitar (died Jan 2018 from an accident fall a week earlier)
    BOH on Bass
    Hideki on Drums
    Leda Cygnus on Guitar
two other Guitarist that regularly rotate in are Takayoshi Ohmura and Isao Fujita
All members are well established musicians with either a Metal or Jazz background.

Nice video! The drummer here was Hideki Aoyama. He was commonly referred to as the god of double bass. His double bass playing was always so consistent and solid-sounding. The Kami Band (their backing band) wasn't technically a part of BABYMETAL. They just perform with them on their live performances.
BABYMETAL have many songs that involve double bass drums. Probably, my favorte among them was Amore. Some other songs with consistent double bass were Road of Resistance, Tales of the Destinies, Sis. Anger, Arkadia, Starlight, Distortion, Akatsuki, and others.

This was their first performance outside of Japan in front of a bigger crowd. Not many people in the crowd even knew who they were, and some who did know were very antagonistic before the festival started, mostly because of prejudice. BABYMETAL is only the three ladies in the front, Su-metal, the main vocalist and dancer, Moametal and Yuimetal, the dancers and backup vocalists. Yuimetal went on hiatus in 2017 and left the group in 2018. From then on it was only Su and Moa until they added a "support dancer" without mic called Avenger in 2019 who's not officially part of BABYMETAL (originally there were three Avengers, but it's only Momoko since the start of the pandemic). Su was born Dec 1997 (so she's 16 here in this video), Moa and Yui were born Jul and Jun 1999 respectively (they just turned 15). At the end of their shows, as is the case here, Su-metal screams "We Are...", Moa, Yui and the crowd answer with "BABYMETAL". It's one of the many nods/hommages towards X Japan, who always end(ed) their shows like this (We Are X). Unfortunately you won't be able to react to much else from BM after 2014/2015 (except for MVs) because it'll be blocked on TH-cam.
The band (who are all male and in their mid-30) is not officially part of BABYMETAL, they are a backing band called Kami Band, which consists (in this video) of Mikio Fujioka (the guy with the black ESP on the left hand side, he died at the beginning of 2018) and Takayoshi Ohmura (with the pink sparkling ESP) on guitars, BOH on bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums. That's Hideki: pbs.twimg.com/media/EvD_2SNWYAEBN71?format=jpg&name=4096x4096 (the magazine is from this month).
The song title, Ijime Dame Zettai means literally "Bullying, no good, absolutely", they translate it with the meaning of "No More Bullying, Forever". A lot of (earlier) BM songs contain lyrics (the) girls could relate to and are almost exclusively with positive messages. The choreography is also an integral part of the performance because it conveys what the song is about.
If you want a closer look at the drumset you should probably try the Su-metal solo song Rondo of Nightmare from Budokan 2014 (the 7+ minute version). It has an instrumental intro called "Mischief of Gods" in which every musician has a solo. Some of the more "drum focused" songs are their other Power Metal songs, Road of Resistance (on their official channel, but it's often blocked for reactors), Amore (Su-metal solo, but there's only bad compilations available on TH-cam) or Arkadia (the Zimmer offical channel has the best version, hands down) for example. Another good one that's not Power Metal would be Akatsuki (also from Budokan 2014), which is another Su-metal solo song. Her solos have more focus towards the music, while the songs with full lineup are more about the overall performance (music, choreo, show, crowd interaction).

I know this is 2 yo but whats amazing about this concert is that most of the crowd had no idea who babymetal was and were specifically there for metal. But babymetal won the whole crowd over and they were literally chanting for more at the end! And it was raining torrentially!

Aahehehaeahaeh You haven't seen nothing yet. Poor Mike. Everybody will tell ya to try a song with Kamiband solo. Go for "Catch me if you can" or even Kagerou wich drum solo is out of this world.

Great Reaction. Drummer is Hideki AOYAMA, one of the Japanese top Drummers and the elder son of the late Jun AOYAMA, who was another top drummer from 1970s to his death by illness in 2013. Babymetal is three girls, and the backing band is called Kamiband, whose members change in each show, but all of them are top notch musicians. From drumming point of view, the Road of Resistance official MV is my recommendation. All of the Babymetal music are unique metal music with superb performance including dancing.
