I'm so happy that Su is finally getting some recognition. I hope more people will recognize now what a talented singer she is and her beautiful voice. I have listened to this more than a dozen times now, and it made me cry every single time. There's something about her voice that goes right to my heart.
It is "Japanese voice". I know it sounds stupid, but it is the short answer to that, also because there are some anime songs I heard similar vocal/tone. People are built differently, so they also have different voices as well, so it is Japanese female singing, and sounds more special to us definitely in the West (if I need to guess).
There is something very theatrical about Suzuka's singing. She doesn't just sing, she tells a story with her intensity and inspirational tonalities to make it come across. Very seldom have I seen this done so well.
Her voice is like a drug that stimulates human emotions. There are many people around the world who are good at singing, but in the case of SU, the voice quality that was born with has already reached a different level!
If you're interested in Moa-Metal's voice look for the song Headbanger on galaxy tour for her 20th birthday. Su gave herr the Mic and she did the last part of the song and she doesn't disapoint at all.
Thank you for your reaction/analysis. As you said Su-metal has to fit a space and her being from Japan means she was brought up in an other tradition of singing. But she worked hard on what she does and she does it really well as you said.
This is what I really appreciate of Baby Metal. The band can play as hard as they want, rocking as loud as they want and Su will still sing without them having to change their style. It is the most amazing collaboration, then add the different styles of music that Su can do. Nothing else out there like it.
Some comments on the original video have pointed out that other singers on that channel you often hear breathing. But not in this video. My guess is this says a lot about Su-metal and Moametal's breath control.
Not that I'm any kind of expert on the subject, but I'm firmly convinced that Suzuka Nakamoto is one of the most talented vocalists out there. Absolutely amazing, and this is such a beautiful version of _Monochrome._
I don't like to rate artists once they reach a certain level, past that it becomes less about the talent and the skill and more about what they put in that is unique to themselves, and Su is certainly unique in what she creates. I love how you can see she is at her happiest when she is just free to let that voice fill whatever her surroundings are.
Hi Jonas, While I agree with you that she is among the best, there is actually another young lady who is around the same age whom I think might still beat Su in terms of vocal talent, and I don't say that lightly as in my mind Babymetal has changed my life. I am very grateful for Su and Babymetal. More so than the other singer I'm thinking of, but Morissette Amon, I would have to say might still be considered more talented at this point in time. That being said, Su IS catching up very quickly. Regardless though, I'd recommend checking out Morissette Amon. I think you'd like her. It's hard not to. I'd recommend checking out her rendition of Never Enough, I wanna know what love is, and Could You Be Messiah (this one is a tear jerker, much like Su's Akatsuki Unfinished).
Nakamoto-San sings with so much power. I was able to get right down in front for a show and when she was near the lip of the stage you could hear her over the PA, just crushing it. Powerhouse vocals.
Su's amazing voice aside, seriously, her voice is so awesome and I became a fan of babymetal because of her when I didn't really ever listen to metal, but every time you said her voice is gorgeous and beautiful, my mind just automatically answer with "No, you are," because you're so gorgeous and I was mesmerized as I watched your reaction. The clean makeup brought out your eyes so nicely. Anyway, Su's singing is incredibly skilled and you look really great!
they're absolutely incredible! i've always loved listening to their 2018 performance of no rain no rainbow, amazing and su is a vocal inspiration for me
Nice reaction. I personally love the way Su fills the vocal notes with emotion. One of the things Koba (their producer) got Moa in Babymetal was because of how compatible her voice is with Su. Who Babymetal was built around. The Sun had to come out. Su was singing Monochrome. The sun comes out at the end of the music video as well. Plus, for their last album Su was represented by the Sun and Moa was represented as the Moon. Long may Babymetal reign over their metal kingdom. The stage in front of a live audience. While their future looks bright. they have a legendary past as well. Babymetal have accomplished things that if it was in a movie, you say that can't happen. But as Su has said All things are possible through Babymetal. When you start off as a pop singer and by 15, you're on a metal world tour. You're going to believe it. Because you made it happen. All in all, Babymetal are still writing their living legend. This performance I hope will get them even more fans. I'm sure we can agree they deserve it.
Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。What I can say now is ... Thank you BABYMETAL. And thank you Koba for your serendipity. You certainly discovered something amazing and sacred for us 13 years ago.
Su is an absolute queen. Great reaction and analysis, this video has been on repeat since it got released. To bring a shade of hope to one of humanity's darkest moments, this is art at its finest.
Hi Coach! Thanks for reacting this video. The vibes and the tone of the studio was different from the usual “the first take”. Probably it was the darkest studio used for the first take channel.
Very nice reaction and analysis. What i love about Su-Metal's singing is that even through she's not the very best singer and still working on her technique, is that she focused more on conveying the message of the song rather than trying to show off her singing skill, every single words coming out is carefully pronounced, and her voice always filled with sincere emotion.
thank you so much! I agree! :) - technique and emotion go hand in hand. Having tons of emotion anad lacking technique is like paining with two colors in comparison to having an entire palette to paint with if your technique is right! :)
Not very many songs make me emotional, but I’m sitting in a machine shop with a bunch of blue collar southern men and I’m trying not to wallow up like a baby. I’m not crying, I just got some dust in my eye.
What a gorgeous performance! Those cloaked figures made me think of the Karate music video. I really appreciate how you draw our attention to particular aspects of the performance like Su metal's use of micro-dynamics. It helps me appreciate the music even more. 🤞for another First Take from BABYMETAL!
"Special?" I'm a 58 year old bitter old fart, former death row prison guard, a veteran of 3 wars and a humanitarian mission with really skinny people with AK47s trying to shoot you, and I'm sitting here with tears rolling down my face even though I don't understand a single word she just sang. The girl just melted this heart of stone. So yeah, I'd call that special. It's as much the qualities of her voice as it is its quality.
Dude, I'm here with you and all for this. I've never cried over music before, and I'm almost 40 and have toured internationally as a roadie. But this song, it just gets me. There's something here that we've never seen before, and that doesn't exist anywhere else. I saw them for the 3rd time this week, and the energy at their shows is something that I hope to feel when it's finally my time. Saw them on a lark back in like 2017 because my friend begged me to, and I didn't think I'd give a shit after like 5 minutes, but it was immediately one of my favorite shows I'd ever seen. Insta-bought tickets to their subsequent shows in 2019 and 2023, and the friend I took to the show last week is going through the mindfuck I did, and I'm just happy to spread the Fox God's love. It's always good to know that I'm not the only lost old jaded white guy that found music again because of Babymetal, it's truly a special thing.
This song has amazing lyrics - Specifically because the main singer is from Hiroshima and a lot of the lyrics sound like they relate to the bomb. Here are some od my favourite parts in no particular order tho I highly recommend watching the original video with the lyrics as she sings them. That monochrome Firework, we will Imagine the night sky in rainbow colors The sky decorated in a spectrum of dreams I wanted to look at it forever Even the bright star that was shining yesterday The warmth I want to feel until tomorrow (You don’t have to say it, you don’t have to say it) Will vanish eventually During the dusk of Ragnarok What are we to see No matter how long the night The morning will arrive
I don't know the technicalities, but she's the only one who can sing live for an hour while dancing hard. Most dance groups have a low volume and unstable pitch during concerts.
This new album has a mature sound, this is the only band that has diversified their whole discography, they work with the best musicians and songwriters in Nihon so it is not a surprise that they are one of the best metal bands. They already did a song with piano version "Akatsuki - Unifinished version" so yeah they are unique.
I love that Su uses vibrato so sparingly. It makes it so much more "important" when she does. In fact, the main problem I have with many other Japanese bands (e.g Wagakki Band), especially when the singers are female, is that they tend to use a very wide and fast vibrato, and often all throughout every single held note. I guess it's a reference to traditional Japanese music, but I find that very annoying. I prefer a less wide and slower vibrato, and it's so much more effective when it's added to a note that has already been held steadily for a while. Interestingly, the point where you mention that there's no vibrato (3:38), is where I hear a slight vibrato as the note fades out. Am I wrong? The only point where I miss a little vibrato in this song is at the very end (waratte).
Wagakki band indeed references to traditional japanese singing. However, most other bands don't, but still have a particular way of doing vibrato. I think it's because japan provides good oppurtunity for musicians to practice from a young age and even the singers are well trained (in the usa or europe they often find their style first and they only take lessons after they discovered their talent). In addition to that, japan's educational system is highly regulated adn uniformized(is this a word?), so I imagine that vocal trainers are teching the same tehcnique to everyone, as they have been taught the same way.
Welcome back to BabyMetal's metalverse 🦊🤘🌐 I think i remember your Karate reaction, i would have love to watch more reaction but i know the copyright blocked ninjas are annoying. If you want another unique ballad version try to reach Akatsuki Unfinished Version live at Legend 1997 held in 2013. Love this Piano version, last time we got a new version like this was "The One - Stairway To Living Legend", another beautiful ballad. Thanks for sharing your analysis, is really nice to hear reactors who actually know what they're talking about. See you next time.🦊🤘🌈
You say towards the beginning that you've never got the really enjoy the other girl voices, you should check out the headbanger performance for Moa's 20th birthday!!!
Hi Katriinka! It's such a joy to see Su-metal recognized by great professionals and coaches like yourself! We Babymetal fans have known for quite some time that Su is quite special, and one of a kind... By the way, on the weekend of April 1st and April 2nd, Babymetal will be announcing their new official third member during their two live performances in Yokohama, Japan. Stay tuned!
I have watched many many coaching vids of this version of Monochrome. the one term I keep hearing describing Su-metal's voice is "laser Like" or "A LAser beam"
There is something so amazing about watching the reactions of this by people who don't know any Japanese. It just proves how universal music is. When it gets you in the feels,, you just know that it's good. I just wish that I knew Japanese.
Hi Katriinka! Nice to FINALLY see you reacting to Babymetal again! You mentioned you'd like to hear Moa sing more and see how her vocals are. May I recommend what is commonly called Moabanger then? It is the song Headbanger...which I THINK I remember you reacting to, but Moa at one point in the song takes over. It is pretty cool to witness. You'll discover Moa also have vocal chops as well. Anyhow, great reaction! I'm looking forward to the next first take as well. I have a feeling it'll be Light and Darkness. To me that song would be the easiest to convert to a piano solo type of song. I could be wrong though!! lol
Every time I hear Sumetal sing, I hear what Koba heard in her. I can understand why Kobametal put so much faith in her abilities. One specific thing I love about her singing is that she doesn't over use vabrato, in fact she hardly ever uses it. To many times singers over use it, and sometimes they ruin the song by using it to much. Sumetal uses it just the right amount, so I actually appreciate hearing it when does use it.
I was reading a story about before they started Babymetal. She was in a girl group band and she was the youngest of the group and they were going to do live concert at a big venue and none of them have been to a venue that big and the to oldest were freaking out and didn't think they could handle it. Su was so confident in her singing that while they were backstage that she took a nap and she had to be woken up to go on stage. She nailed it and one of the producers noticed it and decided he decided that he was going to have her be the main vocalist of a band he wanted to create. He wanted to start something that nobody has ever heard before and he had trouble finding companies to actually go with what his vision was and then he finally found one and then Babymetal was created. They are the ones that created the new genre, now known as Kawaii Metal.
Since the official departure of the third member of the group, Yui Mizuno, in 2018, the band has only two members credited as vocals, Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-Metal) and Moa Kikushi (Moa Metal), the third member who dances with them on stage is only credited as a dancer and is not part of vocals (and apparently also does not give interviews).
Look I’m biased, but I’ve listened to this so many times in the last day. I thought I had gotten over shedding tears. Now I watch you and I’m once again crying like a baby. Perhaps a 60 year old baby. I have no words to describe Su’s vocal talent, or delivery. I also need to shed light on the most humble, supportive and charismatic person alive; Moametal. Blessing upon all of them.
Usually don't like reactors, found them kinda obnoxious for making simple content on top of people who really worked hard on their creators...But the ones like you are a great exception. Actual professionals giving great technical commentary on works like this is very interesting. Is a reaction that really add information instead of a person just, well, doing the same thing the viewers themselves are doing. Great work. Also Su is just amazing, easily one of the best singers on the planet

She is! She also has so much experience behind her vocals too - singing in huge stadiums and carrying vocally the entire concert is insanely hard! :)
@@Katriinka I agree, the stamina these girls have not only to perform these shows but to have done it almost without a break for such a long time

Su has a quality of great singers of the past in the sense that when she sings, her voice almost compresses it self, makes recording and mixing easy.
Some comments on the original video have pointed out that other singers on that channel you often hear breathing. But not in this video.
My guess is this says a lot about Su-metal and Moametal's breath control.

Thank you so much for the breakdown. Very insightful.
On this show, The First Take, the singer usually sings two songs. I don't know what Babymetal will sing next, but please look forward to it.

The sky decorated in a spectrum of dreams

Welcome back to BabyMetal's metalverse 🦊🤘🌐
I think i remember your Karate reaction, i would have love to watch more reaction but i know the copyright blocked ninjas are annoying.
See you next time.🦊🤘🌈
thank you so much :) I will check them out!
For "Akatsuki unfinished" I would highly recommend the 90% less blue edit done by Buttons-Metal. One can see what is going on so much better.
You say towards the beginning that you've never got the really enjoy the other girl voices, you should check out the headbanger performance for Moa's 20th birthday!!!
👍 👍
Welcome back and well done.
I always enjoyed your synopsis of BabyMetal performances and hope to hear more.
ありがとう😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🇯🇵
Hi Katriinka! It's such a joy to see Su-metal recognized by great professionals and coaches like yourself! We Babymetal fans have known for quite some time that Su is quite special, and one of a kind... By the way, on the weekend of April 1st and April 2nd, Babymetal will be announcing their new official third member during their two live performances in Yokohama, Japan. Stay tuned!
One of the girls left years ago, now is Moa and Su which are the two in the video. They have angel voices ❤
There is only one rule here. " To perform a one-shot performance‼︎” the failure will also be delivered as it is.
いちばん嬉しいリアクション ありがとうございます
Oh, if you wanna listen more Moa solo, look for MoaBanger (Headbanger Moa Version)
Love it
Everyone. Check out MoaMetal taking the lead vocals on "HeadBanger"
It's amazing. She turned 20 ("hatachi") around then I think 🎉🎉 Epic
I have watched many many coaching vids of this version of Monochrome. the one term I keep hearing describing Su-metal's voice is "laser Like" or "A LAser beam"
Listening to Su-metal sing a song is like watching a drama.
🎧🎶🎙️🎵 WOW
Piercing. Exceptional journey. Just wanna repeat that. Thank you, to you, and Babymetal.
Babymetal was created for Su.
The other girl gets a solo bit in headbanger, which is pretty sick.
Thank you 🤘🦊
Now we know wich Singers we want for Frozen 3 :D
Vocal coach reaction vs Baby Metal World Domination. If only they'd met you earlier, they might have been successful. Lol.
I love to watch her performance when she was 9 to 11. I think she is a natural born singer. Those records are still available on youtube.
They are the ones that created the new genre, now known as Kawaii Metal.
they are now three once again Okazaki Momoko is now officially known as Momometal
the piano almost took a studio ghibli turn and I am here for it
I think you should react on DIMASH D8 performance in Gakku
Metal Kingdom would fit The First Take but I'm think a piano version of Karate that could be awesome
You should really watch the Moa version of Headbanger where she gets to sing to 2nd half of the song for her 20th birthday its amazing!
I can suggest You another Japanise all female band: Lovebites. The first could be Edge of the World always live! Thanks.
Sugoi 🤘😎🤙
I'm so into this
They are officially a three piece group again, Momoko became the third permanent member recently.
Great work.
Also Su is just amazing, easily one of the best singers on the planet
thank you for this update ❤ i hope you could react to Mika Nakashima - Boku Ga Shinou To Omotta No Wa performance on the first take, it's beautiful
listen to headbanger moametal ver. when you want hear moa sing
