    The greatest complement is when Ian says "oh I never though of doing that. That's cool!"
    That is probably one of the best things a musician can hear from an original composser.

  • @DanGrossDrums

    So, for those who don't know the format: drummers come into Drumeo studio, and they are given a song they've "never" heard before. What the drummer hears is a track with the drums erased out of it, so they have to guess what the drum part would be. Can turn into some really interesting results, especially since they pick songs that are necessarily out of the drummer's wheelhouse (in order to find a song they don't have familiarity with). Kudos to Ian for the reaction video. Was fun to watch! :) Would be really cool if Drumeo could get some of your time. ;)

    • @RBRSC

      Also to some context, they don't produce (in any application of the word) or remix them either. So there's always going to be a distortion between the drums being done live and a recording done decades ago.(And given the nature of the channel, specifically having them be loud/on top)

    • @module79l28

      Just a small correction: the drummers don't have to guess what the original drum work is, the objective is for them to come up with their own interpretation of the song.

    • @DanGrossDrums

      @module79l28 Yeah, that's a more accurate statement. Though a lot seem to approach it like "how close can I get?" Even Tosh kind of says that throughout.

    • @FuturePast2019

      "Final take" of how many?

    • @DanGrossDrums

      @FuturePast2019 Generally seems like up to 4 takes. Starts with a listen, where they actively listen and chart the song out, then they get "as many takes as they want." Don't think I've seen anyone go over 4, but I could be wrong.

    As a musician I love drumeo's blind drum performances, the point is to get an "interpretation" and being different is expected. It shows how much difference drummer and how they interpret something makes. Also, that there are multiple as valid ways to see something as any other :)

      @@franzjosephamrein2663 Tosh's version does feel like it's dragging the song a little during the initial verse, be it from what he's actually playing or the drum mixing cutting out alot of the keyboard and bass (which is what really gives the song that fast driving feel with all the 16th notes). Either way though, even if it's not as good as the original it's still a really cool interpretation of the song, his fills are insane.

    This series has become my precious. Seeing Ian react is like watching Led Zeppelin see modern artists play their songs. This is RAD.

    I think Ian is one of the most under rated drummer from his era, was doing things very few others were.
