She coheadlined the Yamaha 50th celebrations with Gadd, Jimbo, and Weckl. She's filled in and jammed with Minneman. She's already played everything from pop to fusion. I really prefer Senri's Kiyo*Sen music. Of course she is like what, 25 years old, has 7 CDs as primary artist and about another 6 as support/session. Imagine her at 35.
I was going to put this song too. she 24 now, so was 20 here, so three years after she became a judge at the international HitLikeAGirl competition. think she'd won it at 13 or some such. She played NAMM for Yamaha around her 14th bday (Yoyoka did for Pearl at either 9 or 10. Rock tho, not fusion). My understanding is that her teacher has also produced Kanade Sato (18?) and Yuki Ogawa(15-16?) among others (both worth checking out anyway). I can't read Japanese, so again it's my understanding, that this was around the time that this trio won a Tokyo jazz fest award (was this the fest?). Asia Africa & Europe meet in LA... (Pretty sure she actually was specifically sought out by the keyboardist, like when she was 18?). Guess I'm rambling, and I'm a bass player, not drummer, but she's a big deal. Hey, Yoyoka made the list of 500 best world drummers, but Senri is already in the Weckl-type conversations... So, yes, check out Triangle ;). That link is a 15min clip. WOW! She actually is better than most drummers I have ever heard! And that means 5 decades worth! I remember that I used to play these red hydraulic shin toms back in the 70s, they sound very deep! This lady is just totally incredible!

Recommended, for you: Japanese drummer Kanade Sato. She has been playing Dave Weckl music she was 13yo. Kanade has personally met Dave W & he likes & thinks she nails it with his music. She's 18yo now in 2021 & 9-yrs younger than Senri. These are two of my most favourite female drummers. I am a former multi-player musician that started playing at age 10. Ah! Thanks. You’ve now seen my 2 favourite drummers. Akane (Band-Maid) and Senri. There are people who always wish Senri continued playing rock, but I think she’s very happy and awesome where she is with mainly Jazz Fusion?
I 2nd this recommendation with Rie aka-Suzaku. As you will find several other videos of top level drummers performing with her and other amazing musicians. Rie tomimatsu is one of the best female guitarist out there.
Oh, Senri is great! My favourite from her is this one: th-cam.com/video/bfD92Y9O3xc/w-d-xo.html STRATUS - Rocking the Castle in France ROCK AU CHATEAU at Villersexel, FRANCE on August 7, 2015 - Hassan Hajdi (Guitar) - Jean-Christophe Bauer (Bass) - Séraphin Palmeri (Keyboard) - Senri Kawaguchi (Drums)
Senri is probably the best jazz drummer on the scene today (Akane Hirose is the current best rock drummer). Her drum teacher was Kozo Suganuma. She's come a long way from the Yamaha HipGig kit she had when she was doing K-ON! covers. Her cover of Billy Cobham's, Stratus is epic. BTW, Kozo emphasized stick work in her training.
Akane, even then, was not the best rock drummer in Japan and still isn't. I am sure you will protest, but having seen her on stage play, one can be impressed and I have seen the best play live, Haruna! 40+ years of watching the worlds finest behind a kit and that includes Portnoy and Peart, Haruna is in that bracket! 😎🤟
The youngest member of Drummerworld's top 500 is a young lady named Yoyoka - Another Japanese prodigy. Enjoy her cover of The Police's Murder by Numbers when she was 9 or her recent cover of Deep Purple's Speed King at the ripe old age of 11
You can't react to Senri without reacting to Kanade Sato. Start with Drops (live version) at 11 years old, then jump ahead to her cover of Dave Weckl's Festival de Ritmo at around 17 or 18.
I suggest Kanade Sato, the next gen drummer girl prodigy after Senri. She won the Hit Like A Girl (which was an international contest) at age 11. Look up her song "Drops" live version. And also look up her latest work to know how much she has grown. She's now 18 years old. Tbh, Kanade has better rhythm sense and wrist control. Senri is faster and a bit better with kicks. And oh, she eats Weckl for breakfast. xD
Just to be sure you don't miss it. You should check out Kanade Sato. A lot of people like her two Weckl. Personally I'd like to recommend the Chick Corea she posted just the other day or her Hit Like.a Girl thing she did when she was 11. And yes she won.... She is an absolute beast!
Senri is and has been the best female drummer in the world virtually since she was 12. She is indeed a jazz specialist. Japan has some of the world’s best female drummers. I would guess this clip is at least 6 years old. Senri is about 24 now. Kanade Sato is another prodigy playing at a gig at 6! Hasnt had the professional help needed to take herself to the next level yet as she’s focussed on her education. She’s 18 now. Some great clips of here in the early teens. Won hit like a girl at 14. Kanade and Senri had a play off when they were 8 and 12. Senri’s speed was phenomenal. Frenetic in fact! Another prodigy is Yoyoka who at 11 is an extraordinarily good drummer. Multi sponsored by Pearl and Ziljian ,played at their booths at NAMM in 19 and 20. She has incredible strength for her age. Broken quite a few sticks. Reviewed by Robert Plant of a Led Zep song at 7. Also Ian Paice of Deep Purple playing Burn. She’s been brilliant since 7. Started playing live gigs with her family at 5 over 150 til end of 2019. Been on The Ellen Show twice. Very good improvisation work on her channel. They’re just some of the Asian prodigies. Amazing guitarists in the early to mid teens that blow your mind with their speed and talent. Check out Petty Rock at 11 from Thailand Ayu Gustfaz from Indonesia at 14 Lisa X at 15 from Japan. All world class prodigies only set to get better.

You asked for suggestions of Senri playing in a band. Here are a few to select from: - jazz with her trio Triangle: th-cam.com/video/nrHJoY6RzR0/w-d-xo.html - jazz fusion with her duo Kiyosen: th-cam.com/video/YDfTvre5pkU/w-d-xo.html (this particular one is more jazz than rock) She seems to play for anyone who wants a drummer :-) : - What would probably be Japanese Power Metal except it's a cover by a violinist - shows off Senri's musical sense in a genre that often features one-dimensional drumming: th-cam.com/video/5WsDrWX-0RY/w-d-xo.html - Improvising in a jazz trio, including a long solo from 5:50: th-cam.com/video/p5mrtBv861o/w-d-xo.html - Someone's random rock piece in 25/16: th-cam.com/video/kKfJklQOz7k/w-d-xo.html
One I don't see mentioned much. Her work with Ryo Kunihiko is really great, if you like that type of music. And there is a lot of it. Here is but one. th-cam.com/video/gXVsJG2kbmc/w-d-xo.html Playing Billy Cobham in France. th-cam.com/video/bfD92Y9O3xc/w-d-xo.html Playing with Guthrie Govan. th-cam.com/video/8H1-ebvlBTw/w-d-xo.html
I recommend listening to Senri with a band - she is so brilliant with other players. Amazing. My pick would be Blowin' Luv - kick into it at about 3 mins 30.
MIKE, I hope you have been getting caught up on some of the S.K. albums, videos or DVD's since your unfortunate late introduction! You will surely grasp where that "jazz" touch
Great reaction, as usual! I love Senri, she is crazy good. I didn't see any YOYOKA on your channel. If you don't know about her, to put thinks in perspective, she took Senri's place as the youngest ever to be added to the DRUMMERWORLD's TOP 500 Drummers of all time at age 11!. Senri was put n the list at age 13. YOYOKA is still 11, but plays like someone with 40 years experience. They are both friends. Her cover "Burn - Deep Purple / Covered by Yoyoka Soma" th-cam.com/video/uhzX9QbH3js/w-d-xo.html is a good place to start. All her covers are great. She just signed (Two weeks ago) with one of the largest and most respected Talent Agencies in Japan to play live for them, and they will be booking her internationally as well. Has half a dozen endorsements, etc. (Read the profile on the Burn cover for additional info about her). She actually judges drumming competitions as well.

Thank you for branching out away from the excellent male drummers who have rocked and drummed for years. I have my favorites. Let's stay in the far east. Junna from Japan will blow your socks off. I would put her against any drummer you can name, no not Buddy Rich either. She is the most energetic drummer on the planet. Check her Dragon Force song Through the fire and flames. Another is Canon Rock by her. Then there is Yoyoka. Only 10 but stand by!! She played one of Robert Pant's songs and it brought tears to his eyes. Here we go. Vela Blue and S. White, Taiwanese. A-Yeon and Ami Kim, Korean. Kanade Sato, Japanese. My youngin' favorite is Olivia Hanhan. One of her songs is Dynamite! If you watch her she seems so natural!! Amira Sayahira from Malaysia.
Great video, but i liked the original without the slightly patronizing comments was even better. Senri is totally dope. A 'nice' solo? She up there w/da best!
I'm not a drummer, but love the drums. Your reactions are a great education. Thanks for that. Here's why you noted so many jazz influences in her drumming. She obviously just loves it. th-cam.com/video/MvEBp2qGHYU/w-d-xo.html
I love Senri's solos but I prefer her songs, you could check out her work with Guthrie Govan replacing Marco Minnemann .😎 Is nice that you mention Akira Jimbo... he and Senri have shared the stage sometimes.😉
@@MikeLevitsky Unfortunately I have not found footage of that, 😢 but if you google "Senri Kawaguchi Dave Weckl" you could see a picture of both + Akira Jimbo and Steve Gadd jamming together.😕
I like your analsis. But I'm curious. You said two years ago you were going to find and critique Senri playing in a band. It looks like you have not done that. There are many great videos of her playing in bands. Why haven't you come back to her? Senri is the first Japanese drummer I learned of. Kanade Sato was the second. And then came Yoyoka. Wow. Wow. And WOW! I'd like to see your reactions to them all.
Hi, Mike Sorry to post here but didn't know if you'd see it on one of your BAND-MAID reactions. I like to dream. What do you think about something like this? My little brain is working overtime. I'm thinking of a BAND-MAID reactors all star jam. SYGNEH on bass, GuitarGent, Temporal72, The Champ of Medium and Dunsy on guitars with BryanForce and/ or Mike Levitsky on drums. I 2nd this recommendation with Rie aka-Suzaku. As you will find several other videos of top level drummers performing with her and other amazing musicians. Rie tomimatsu is one of the best female guitarist out there.
Check out Kanade Sato next covering Festival de Ritmo another Japanese drummer if you like jazz then surely you'll love her.
Oh, Senri is great! My favourite from her is this one: th-cam.com/video/bfD92Y9O3xc/w-d-xo.html
STRATUS - Rocking the Castle in France
ROCK AU CHATEAU at Villersexel, FRANCE on August 7, 2015
- Hassan Hajdi (Guitar)
- Jean-Christophe Bauer (Bass)
- Séraphin Palmeri (Keyboard)
- Senri Kawaguchi (Drums)
Also Yoyoka drum cover Led Zappelin songs, Deep Purple songs and more.... :)
Enjoy her cover of The Police's Murder by Numbers when she was 9 or her recent cover of Deep Purple's Speed King at the ripe old age of 11
My favorite yoyoka cover work are virtual insanity and red hot chilli peppers.
"She's got good hands". Are you kidding. IMO the best female drummer in the world. Can you play her repertoire ?
And oh, she eats Weckl for breakfast. xD
She's got a good video where she plays with Guthrie Govan.
Maravillosa!!!
She's. Grrrreeeaaattt. Yamaha. Revs your heart
Check out Petty Rock at 11 from Thailand
Ayu Gustfaz from Indonesia at 14
Lisa X at 15 from Japan.
All world class prodigies only set to get better.
16th Tokyo jazz festival. check this out and be blown away by Senri.
Checkout senri kawaguchi playing with her jazz band at the beehive... run the top jazz drummers in Japan. I first started watching her when she's 8 and 10 years old she's got for use in a blow your mind
ow, it's the grown up senri,
You asked for suggestions of Senri playing in a band. Here are a few to select from:
- jazz with her trio Triangle: th-cam.com/video/nrHJoY6RzR0/w-d-xo.html
- jazz fusion with her duo Kiyosen: th-cam.com/video/YDfTvre5pkU/w-d-xo.html (this particular one is more jazz than rock)
She seems to play for anyone who wants a drummer :-) :
- What would probably be Japanese Power Metal except it's a cover by a violinist - shows off Senri's musical sense in a genre that often features one-dimensional drumming: th-cam.com/video/5WsDrWX-0RY/w-d-xo.html
- Improvising in a jazz trio, including a long solo from 5:50: th-cam.com/video/p5mrtBv861o/w-d-xo.html
- Someone's random rock piece in 25/16: th-cam.com/video/kKfJklQOz7k/w-d-xo.html
One I don't see mentioned much. Her work with Ryo Kunihiko is really great, if you like that type of music. And there is a lot of it. Here is but one. th-cam.com/video/gXVsJG2kbmc/w-d-xo.html
Playing Billy Cobham in France. th-cam.com/video/bfD92Y9O3xc/w-d-xo.html
Playing with Guthrie Govan. th-cam.com/video/8H1-ebvlBTw/w-d-xo.html
World Class Drummer
You should watch Kanade Sato play Weck ... it's the must.
彼女が中学生位の頃から知ってますけど、いつも楽しそうにドラム演奏してるのが好きです。
I recommend listening to Senri with a band - she is so brilliant with other players. Amazing. My pick would be Blowin' Luv - kick into it at about 3 mins 30.
Kenade Sato is awesome too.
MIKE, I hope you have been getting caught up on some of the S.K. albums, videos or DVD's since your unfortunate late introduction! You will surely grasp where that "jazz" touch
Good VDO , Thanks
She was a child prodigy before. Wow she is a grown up now.....
Kanade Sato next!
Can you react to Japanese metal band called Lovebites ? they sounds like mix of 80s band and quite popular in UK and Europe
Recommended songs: Holy War, Thunder Vengeance.
Nice! Thank you for reacting to this. Totally made my day. You got her influences right coz Senri mostly plays Fusion.
Btw here’s some of her best playing with a band-
Wupatki- Triangle live, Jazz Japan awards 2017 th-cam.com/video/nrHJoY6RzR0/w-d-xo.html
Lover come back to me th-cam.com/video/2eIeMPhXhSQ/w-d-xo.html
Rie aka Suzaku (feat. Senri, Kiyoshi, Shoko)- Across the Sky th-cam.com/video/QMSd6z9nHMc/w-d-xo.html
Also, here’s my personal fav solo song by her
Adventure (Drumeo) th-cam.com/video/urpso-w87ts/w-d-xo.html
Senri Kawaguchi, Triangle th-cam.com/video/MvEBp2qGHYU/w-d-xo.html
Senri Kawaguchi, Guthrie Govan: th-cam.com/video/lVLR2L-0xlE/w-d-xo.html
Senri Kawaguchi, Kiyomi Otaka (Kiyo*Sen): th-cam.com/video/Iwb8fo5guxA/w-d-xo.html
Wow. She's mixing 5 and 4 so subtly and flawlessly that no one notices
[Edit: I meant time signatures]
She is a virtuoso, good call.
lets see -Senri plays Yamaha Kanade plays Pearl and Tamu plays Tama these makers give theses gals sets
she plays jazz??? WITH SOME OF THE FINEST JAZZ PLAYERS IN THE WORLD , oh and those are her signature sticks
React to Covet "falkor" (full band playthrough) !! its an interesting song
Now you should go and react to her teacher Kozo Suganuma
Check out Yoyoka doing “Burn” Deep Purple drum cover. She’s only 10
Yoyoka’s absolutely nuts
She plays with several bands the all girl Jazz Avengers and Triangle look Senri Kawaguchi Triangle
75% of comments: Listen to this other Japanese drummer...
check out Yu-To japanese metal drummer of Undead Corporation, Thousand Eyes and Devil Within, check out his drum play through of Flames of the End
Senri kawaguchi Flux Capacitor
Great video, but i liked the original without the slightly patronizing comments was even better. Senri is totally dope. A 'nice' solo? She up there w/da best!
Senri with a band? Just check out The Jazz Avengers and/or Senri Kawaguchi Triangle. She'll blow you away!!!!!!
I'm not a drummer, but love the drums. Your reactions are a great education. Thanks for that.
Here's why you noted so many jazz influences in her drumming. She obviously just loves it. th-cam.com/video/MvEBp2qGHYU/w-d-xo.html
I grew up calling that intro as a double stroke roll or military roll.
I thought it was doubles but hey what do I know, I’m a complete amateur
TOKYO JAZZ She is excellent
please next react Burn - Deep Purple / Covered by Yoyoka Soma
Must react to Ryuga also from Japan.
I love Senri's solos but I prefer her songs, you could check out her work with Guthrie Govan replacing Marco Minnemann .😎
Is nice that you mention Akira Jimbo... he and Senri have shared the stage sometimes.😉
This sounds awesome. Do you have a link?
@@MikeLevitsky Unfortunately I have not found footage of that, 😢 but if you google "Senri Kawaguchi Dave Weckl" you could see a picture of both + Akira Jimbo and Steve Gadd jamming together.😕
@@MikeLevitsky
Hi mike,, can you react this drummer from Indonesia??
th-cam.com/video/weqDGBxUtkg/w-d-xo.html
YES
She plays lots of Big Jazz concerts- - - - - >>> Watch Her some more. Check Her at the Toyko Jazz fest - - -
I like your analsis.
Hi, Mike
Sorry to post here but didn't know if you'd see it on one of your BAND-MAID reactions.
We can get Gary to sing. Not even he could mess that talented group up. I know I'm forgetting many other wonderful and talented reactors and I'm sorry.
I'm going to post on all the other reactor / musicians channels, just to see if there is any interest. As always, we thank you, sir. YOU ROCK!
oh here is another drummer you should check out. i looked to see if you have checked her out before and didnt see anything. she goes by the name of Tarn Softwhip and she is a drummer in a small Thai band were she is from. but she also has her own music school go to along with a masters in music,,,and she is only 24 and she started her youtube channel at about 18. the girl has skills. atm because of the pandemic she has been doing more stuff on YT instead of with her band and she does some killer covers of music from a wide genre of music.
the 2 videos that really got me into watching her though is her covering:
Slipnot's Psychosocial th-cam.com/video/-2_wL6NalmY/w-d-xo.html
System of the Down's Chop Suey th-cam.com/video/nWLans_2akQ/w-d-xo.html
Come in Rome please!!!
finally you get to Senri-chan ^.^ you'll find quite many video of her jamming around within a band, maybe you could check this one, covering Pharrell William "Happy" th-cam.com/video/mTyU1D1tFPM/w-d-xo.html
if you're interested in another drum prodigy from Japan, you should check this adorable amazing girl, Kanade Sato. At age of 6yo, she already has caught the eyes of Minoru Mukaiya (keyboardist in Casiopea; you seems to be already familiar with Akira Jimbo though). Maybe you wanna check her play in covering Dave Weckl "Festival de Ritmo" th-cam.com/video/5jDVZPzfS1c/w-d-xo.html
❤🥁
Why are you reacting to Senri and Junna, but not to Yoyoka?
You'll see why in this.
Good Times Bad Times - LED ZEPPELIN / Cover by Yoyoka , 8 year old
you have the pronunciation right :)
Baby Metal: Road of Ressistance.. Rondo of nightmare.. HeadBanger.. all live please..
I've got a band for you to checkout, one the best in Japan, Aldious. What might interest you is the drummer is Marina Bozzio. Her stepfather is Terry Bozzio of Frank Zappa and Missing PI
dumb computer Missing Persons.
The “r” in senri is pronounced like a “d” so it sounds phonetically like “sendi.” It’s like Cindy, but with an “e.”
Try this th-cam.com/video/QMSd6z9nHMc/w-d-xo.html
All musicians are amzing. It's an instrumental with Rye aka Suzaku, Senri Kawaguchi and other musicians.
The jazz sound you are picking up is completely reasonable--a lot of her training and gigs have been in jazz.
Nice reaction to a great drummer whose work I find consistently creative. The phonetic spelling of Senri Kawaguchi is: Senri Kawaguchi. That's kinda how it works -- romanized spelling of Japanese is phonetic.
She didn't 'hang out' w/you, you just commented to a previously posted clip of the master herself. Show some respect (perhaps even for her copyright?).
Do a reaction video to Chris Turner.
Since you mentioned Jimbo Akira (I think you did), here's Senri (15 years old then) having a session with Jimbo. She drops her stick here too haha. Enjoy :-) th-cam.com/video/jTnHRRqRZ8k/w-d-xo.html
If you like Japan female drummers...check Tamu Murata from Nemophila
It's been two years, and you haven't discovered YOYOKA?
Bro, watch Junna drum cover Dragon Force songs, Babymetal songs and more songs... :)
All I'm hearing is "classic" Senri Kawaguchi.
She plays better than you ever will
