This video is about a simple ice fishing trip and by simple I mean a walk out trip. Lockport MB offer some of the best year round fishing close to Winnipeg. My experience ice fishing in Lockport over the past few years is you catch small saugers with the occasional walleye and other species like northern pike, perch and burbot.
The current was strong on this trip and we had to use pretty heavy jigging spoons to reach the bottom. I wanted to use the lures I had tuned up (link below) but they were not heavy enough. There had been a major rain storm to the south causing an increased flow. Also, there were warnings the river would rise by a few feet causing a hazard close to shore, something we were keeping an eye on.
This was my first trip for 2024 and was lucky enough to have my brother supply almost everything for the trip. Guest chef Mike also cooked a really good gourmet lunch.
