Great video, I'm 62 years old and started with a Canon 1300d four years ago. Now I have bought a Canon r6 mark ii - got it out the box and thought " gosh " but holding it while watching your video was great . Now looking forward to photograph wildlife in Scotland .
That is awesome William and thanks for sharing :)
I'm 52 & kinda in the same boat! 😊
I’m 70 & kinda in the same boat! ☺️ but Kent not Scotland
I had 700D and upgraded to Mark R6 mark 2 today. new battery is still charging and watching the video. I'm 37 India.
Very nicely done. Love the way you don't waste the viewer's time.
I appreciate that!
This guy is good! No messing' around--clear, concise, nothing superfulous!👏
Appreciate that Greg 👊
Great video! Straight to the point(s) and no fillers. Love it.
I just upgraded to the R6 Mark II from a 2013 DSLR and the technology upgrades had me flummoxed, but this video really helped me more than the introductory manual. Thank you!
Solid coverage of the basics. Good pacing, good information.
Much appreciated!
Just got my R6 Mark ii yesterday. I was reading the manual which kept referring to page numbers and was hard to follow. I watched this video and I feel comfortable enough to get out and take pictures. One of the best videos I've seen. I'll be watching the advanced features after I get some time laying with this awesome camera.
Oh, man, I’m a fan of this guy! Straight forward instruction without all the BS. Super informative. I’ll be back for more as I get more familiar with this camera.
Really happy found this page! quick and straight to the points! My new camera guide!
Thanks Jason! That was great refresher. I like your no-nonsense, get-to-the-point explanation.
Thank you. Awesome video. I appreciate all the information.
The video I needed.🤝Can't wait to get mine!
Great start up tutorial! You explained the basics very well.
I wanted something to get me started and this is a great video for that. Thank you!!!
great intro, love your precision in explaining it!
Thank you :)
Very well explained. Thank you.
Mine arrived yesterday so this video was a good place to start.
Would love one of your videos that goes thru the menu systems like. you have done with the RP. Your recommendations are always outstanding
EXTREMELY helpful stuff here! Just got my R6 II yesterday. No question that it's related to my beloved 7D II and 1DX III, but quite a bit more sophisticated. It was great to watch you going through the menus while following along on my own camera. Thanks for posting! (I'm actually using my 24-105 EF, via the EF > RF adapter. That lens normally lives on my 7D II, but it seems like it's going to be a great pairing on the R6 II as well.)
Thanks for sharing and I recently sold my EF 24-105mm lens and was honestly a bit sad to see it go... I took so many thousands of photos with that lens it will always have a special place in my memories ;) Same goes for the 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS I sold....
@@Jason_HermannYeah, that 24-105 is one of the best lenses I've ever seen. Great walkaround lens in particular. The only reason that I didn't go for the kit with the R II plus the RF 24-105 was that it would have been redundant. I decided on the 800mm f/11, which was a good way to get that extra reach without completely breaking the bank.
Fantastic video. I was working through the 1000 page manual and its very complicated, but your video is very clear and has saved me about reading 200 pages lol
Glad it helped and I have a much more detailed guide on the R6 II Here: th-cam.com/video/U-WV0g0rqNI/w-d-xo.html
Dear Jason
Thank you so much for the tutorial.
I've just bought the mark ii and felt overwhelmed. But the set up guide was a great start.
I'm planning on doing bird photography - eventually.
I need to start 'playing', now. It's how I learn best, really.
But I will be interested to find out about settings for wildlife shots.
Thank you, again.
Jonathan
Great video, easy to understand.
Thank you thank you for providing this!!! Santa brought me this amazing camera and I feel completely out of my element. I have been looking for a video that broke it down and explained everything and this was it. Great detail and information. I’m going to go watch your mode video now!!
You are so welcome and Merry Christmas Scarlet :) My R6 II beginners guide will be coming out in a few days time and will be highly detailed compared this video, so be sure to stay tuned for that as well! All the best, Jay
I ordered the Canon R6 II and it’s back ordered so I have no idea when it will come . I just discovered your site and this video was terrific as you have given me the opportunity to learn this camera in detail. I love it and am subscribing. 😊

Thanks very much Jason, nice video. The camera store was doubtful my camera would arrive this year. It arrived on the 1st of December 2022 hoooooray. Wack a Tamron 24-70mm g2 on it

Oh yeah, BIG upgrade!!
i wanna give two thumbs up to this video👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
What does ipb stand for ? It’s going to take getting used to some of the screen navigations differences from my old t6i that I just traded in for this . So many things to remember .
Great, great video...should get my camera on the 15th!
Awesome news Chuck on the new camera, and I should have another video up soon if you want to learn even more ;)
My R6ii is due to arrive today!
Oh yeah!!
hello! does the 6D battery work for the R6 mark ii?
Jason.... hello my friend. So glad I found your channel and I did subscribe. This is a fabulous walk through for a quick guide. Anyway I'm now retired and want to really get into photography. Wildlife, landscape, everyday events/street photography, and a little video. I'm starting as a beginner but really like investing in decent quality the 1st time so I almost bought the r5 but thought that might be a TAD too much seeing I'm not making a living with it. Now I'm looking at the r6 mark ii with a couple cheaper rf lenses and maybe 1 good rf L series lens. So I had a couple questions for you. You think the r6 mark ii is good for what I'm looking for or do you think I go with the r5 if im going to take this seriously. I am buying new because I feel funny with used stuff. My other question is what have you found to be the best cards for the camera? Thanks for your help and I will continue to follow your channel.....
What a beautiful awesome work of art that camera is. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Angel from The Bay
*Would this camera be considered Pro or Semi-pro camera due to all its features? I was just wondering. (It doesn't really matter, I'm in love with that camera)
I would say semi Pro myself, but it can certainly be used for Pro work...
Is the canon r6 mark ii fully articulated screen supposed to tilted down
And has a small little gap on the top right corner
Also, I just bought the canon T6 marking barnd new form the Canon store on Amazon. However, when I look through the viewfinder, it's all dark. I can't see anything through it. Is there something I have to do to activate it or should I return it for a new one?
Hey, thanks for the video, very concise and informative. However, I did have a question which pertains to the video settings discussed. You demonstrate how when you change video record settings it also changes the record time. However, when I change mine to the 4k uncompressed it only gives me a record limit of 33 minutes yet you on your display it gives you a recording limit of over an hour. Just curious about the discrepancy? Is there something in my settings that I'm missing. Would highly appreciate feedback. Thanks!
Great question and that has to do with the size memory card I was using. It calculates the time based on how much space is left on the card....
Very good video. Mine came November 30th. I have ef lenses. 50mm 1.8, 16-35mm 2.8, 24-70mm 2.8, 70-200mm 2.8
Very cool, I also have the Canon EF 135mm f/2 L Lens and EF 24-105m f/4 L Lens... Sold my EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS Lens and EF 17-40mm f/4 L Lens already...
The camera will arrive tomorrow 😉
Hi there, when recording video while still being in photo mode, do you have full manual control over the video or does it go to all automatic?
Yeah it goes into auto mode for video if you press record while in photo mode.
Hey that was a great video! BTW what SD card will be suitable for writing 4K videos inthis camera?
I recommend and use this card: geni.us/veVF The come in different sizes, but I have the 128GB and want the 256GB next time I get one...
@@Jason_Hermann Oh great! Thank you
What's the difference between the RF 24-105 F4 lens you have in the video vs. the RF 24-105 F4-7.1 STM lens (which is the one that came with my kit)?
Cost, quality, size, and weight.... The F4 version is a L grade lens which is very high quality optically and the aperture is a constant f/4 for the entire focal range.
I'm surprised you didn't address the dual card slots- that's a big deal! Having two and more specifically, how to tell the camera to shoot and record video to multiple cards. That's the information I wanted to know.

THANKS.
Noted!
I just bought the R6II and was a bit overwhelmed. But this video really helps me a lot to get started. thx so much
However I discovered that there are only 2 options for frames per second: 50.00 and 25.00 so for instance 4K 50.00 IPB and 4 K 25.00 IPB. Why Canon has changed this?
Your camera is set to PAL video mode where as mine is set to NTSC since I live in the North America. You can change that if you want here: It's in the wrench area of the menu on page 4: cam.start.canon/en/C012/manual/html/UG-08_Set-up_0120.html
Hi ive ordered the r6ii, quick question, does the UHS - I cards work instead?
yes
I just got mine in the mail and am concerned it could of been damaged in shipping but possibly not? When the body is off I moved it side to side and felt/hear something shift inside it like something jiggled inside but when turned on it didn’t continue does that mean it’s fine or should I return and exchange it? I did this a few times to make sure I wasn’t crazy but I don’t want to be paranoid if this is normal for this camera?
That is normal and it is the sensor stabilization system moving around inside. Some lenses have the same "stuff moving inside phenomenon" also encase you come across that as well.👍
Hi Jason do you ear something when you balance on right on left? Because on my mine I ear like a piece of stuff. Thanks
I think what you are hearing is the sensor stabilization or the optical stabilization in the lens, but yes it is normal if that is what you are talking about...
@@Jason_Hermann thank you so much. I ask canon and no response.👍🏽
👍👍👍
How do you remove the top thing on the camrea idk what it's called but I want to add a mic on the top bur idk how to remove that small cap or whatever it's called
It slides out backwards towards the back of the camera. It's really tight, so you need like a sturdy finger nail sort of thing to slide it back and out.
Would you recommend the Canon r6 ii or the Sony alpha a7 IV?
I would rather have the Sony A7 IV personally, but they are both fantastic cameras that you can not go wrong with. I like the fact that Sony has more lenses to chose from and better dynamic range which matters to me. The Canon has better stabilization with a good Canon L lens if doing wildlife photography for example, and I also think the Canon has slightly better colors science, but again, both cameras are awesome!
Why do you recommend UHS-II? Still learning...
The UHS-II cards read and write speed are faster. This helps clear the buffer faster when taking lots of photos in a row if you are a sports shooter for example, or if you want to transfer the files from the SD card to your computer directly. So tons of raw files and large video files will transfer way faster on a UHS-II card in a proper SD card reader or laptop port.
can it record 4k 30fps 16:9
It the NTSC Video System mode yes it can.... cam.start.canon/en/C012/manual/html/UG-04_Shooting-2_0040.html
Micro hdmi for $2500 sucks but this is a great hybrid camera
I agree!
How to lock the focus please help me.
Lock the focus? You can use manual focus and it won't change. SO focus on what you want, then switch to manual.
@@Jason_Hermann Sir not Manual focus If I keep eye autofocus it is taking randomly while taking group pictures in a wedding. How can I control
You need a quick start video for the quick Start Video
