I finally jumped in to mirrorless from a Nikon D850. I played with a little R10 an was blown away with the bird eye AF. I consider it a game changer. So I sold all my Nikon gear and jumped in to Canon RF with an R6II and the RF100-500 + 1.4 Extender. Wow! Couldn't be more happy and my keeper rate went way up. Now I just need to be patient for the R5 Mark II.

Duade, I'm a recent subscriber and I've been continually blown away by the consistantly high quality content. It's so easy to follow and your ability to give concise descriptions of things before delving deeper into subjects makes every video interesting and easily accessible. I have some photography training but nothing wildlife related, so the past few weeks I've been out practicing every day. Sometimes I'll even pause one of your videos and go out for a session, inspired by what I've seen you do. Keep it up!!! (I used to live in Wangaratta so it's also nice seeing some of my favourite spots around there in your videos)

I've taken my R6m2 out for the first show I shot this weekend, and it's a ton of features to learn from the RP I've been shooting with for the last 3 years. Instead of turning off the subject tracking, I keep my camera's AF area in "Whole Area AF" and set my back button focus to "Set AF point to center". Not sure how effective that is for you in the tall grass, but it's worked pretty well for me at the show. I even tried this out on my old RP, and I'm kicking myself for not having done this years ago, although I'd have to press the back button focus twice instead of once to get it to track.
Thank you for this video! I was a fan of your sensor readout video, and was glad to know what the R6m2 readout is. I may not be a wildlife photographer, but your observations and opinions are very informative. Cheers!

Thank you for doing this review Duade. I think this is the first legit review of a R6ii out that is a full on review and with a production version at that! Your use case in this video of wildlife is right in line with one of my favorite subject matters so that helps too LOL. My R6ii arrived yesterday and I believe I'll be making the button assignment that you did at the end one of my first moves.

Man! Your reviews are ASTONISHING! Detialed, thorough, but concise. Full of technical details but only those related to real-life performance. Crisp audio, nice looking and ilustrative footage, esthetic and clear visual effects, great concept of before/after pictures and above all the topics are relevant for real-life performance. You are the Curtis Judd of wildlife photo reviewers.

This is such a good quality review, all those technical details that matter to the everyday experience, the comparison to the other models. I was already looking at the R6II for my entry into full frame mirrorless based on specs only, but this hands on review has definitely convinced me that this is indeed the right R-line body for me.

Great video! I've just bought an R6 mkII and I was struggling to figure out how to stop it tracking in spot focus. Yours is the only video I've found which explains this. Just a point on the 5fps electronic shutter - not everyone is a wildlife photographer! Having a silent shutter is going to be great when I'm shooting weddings etc but I don't need the high fps for this. I'm looking forward to getting out and trying my new RF 100-400, which I bought for an absolute steal (with a huge trade-in bonus on a 29 year-old lens!), so I was pleased to hear that you were impressed.

Great detailed review of this camera. And not just reading the spec sheet. You’ve tested the features in real-world situations and shown there true value. The R6 Mark II is my first full-frame body. I spent a decade shooting with the EOS M-series so I’m not new to mirrorless. But the R6m2 just blows me away.
With any camera there are trade-offs. In the R6m2 case the main trade-off is price vs megapixels. If money is no object, one could wait for the R5 Mark II, but I think the R6m2 hits the price/performance sweet-spot for me.
The pre-recording buffer sounds a bit half-baked (I haven’t used it yet), but I can imagine many situations, especially sports, where it would not be an issue (think diving, track and field, ice hockey, or any sport where there is a burst of action and then a slight lull in the pace).

Thanks for joining Michael, I really appreciate it, congrats on the R6II, it is one of the most well rounded cameras I have used and it will perform very well for you. Thanks Alex, it can be tough to test AF but the R62 does feel a touch better in the field. The improved AF with the RF800 f11 is welcomed. Cheers, Duade

Informative and glad to see you having so much fun. And keep reminding us about you were happy when you were using your 10MP 40D. I have the R6 and admittedly I can see a difference when I compare either some screen or print images to ones I have shot on a loaned R5. However, when I put my R6 12x16 prints up on the wall, the Wow and Sales factors suggest more MP might be nice but not always necessary. (I struggled with the R5 vs R6 MP issue and went for the R6 and a printer upgrade. Everyone's experience might vary but my 2 cents on more MP..) Thanks

Hi Duade, another job well done! Thank you! Regarding your question why Canon R6II offers 5 FPS for electronic shutter, my guess was that it would be very useful when people need to take slow actions, such as music on stage, and need silent shutter.

Hi Duade. Well, another superb video, thank you very much. Others have said the same, but your videos are without doubt the best available on the net - and always brilliant images to see within the videos. I've got my fingers well and truly crossed that some of the autofocus improvements/features we've seen recently on the R3/R7/R10and R6 Mark II find their way on to the R5 by way of a firmware update. Anyone who buys the R6 Mark II is certainly getting a great camera. Thanks again. John

Thanks John, yes, they sure do seem to be updating the cameras with every new release. I agree it would be nice for Canon to update the R5/6 with firmware updates. Cheers, Duade 👍

What a fantastic video. Within the space of a week you managed to knock it out the park! Whatever Canon have done with the battery life and the focus improvement with the RF800 is fantastic, oh not to mention the improvement in rolling shutter. Please continue to create content, it’s great to watch!

In your review you showed that the rf 800 mm f/11 prime lens allowed autofocus points across 80 % of the screen compared with a much smaller central area on the R6.
Can't afford the rf 100-500 L zoom lens.
So this new camera might get me to buy the rf 800 mm lens.

Wow!! As always, suuuuper in depth video. I think you may have convinced me of my next camera body.
Seeing those rolling shutter timings, it definitely explains why, in a photo that i took of a Red Bellied Woodpecker with electronic shutter, his wings looks like he's hugging a softball. I thought, either the woodpecker's wings are rubber, or this electronic shutter is making some hilarious images. Shutter was 1/1250, shooting w an EOS R. The slide explains everything!
Again, I appreciate your work here on YT. You've been a HUGE help in my wildlife photography journey. Have a great day and weekend, sir!

G'day mate. Thanks for this early yet very solid review ! Sounds like even specifically for birding it improved more over the original R6 than what I was expecting, which was that the R6ii would be better for video and (indoor) sports, but that the R7 would have been better for birds due to more pixels or the bird. But your video makes it sound that even for birds the R6ii has so many other advantages ensuring they balance the resolution (and cost) advantages of the R7. Which makes it a tough call to make, on the condition your lens is long enough. And I feel my former EF100-370Lii remains too short for an R6ii.
As it stands, and for my preference of only using 1 body, I shall now consider my new R5 to be an optimal compromise between the advantages of the R6ii and R7, heheh.
Thanks for showing what the Digital Teleconvertor is about .. and perhaps it has 1 good use case: getting an easy enlarged preview to determine what species a distant bird actually is, allowing you to determine whether or not is worth sneaking up closer to take some better raw shots ;-)
In your buffer comparison tables: were you using the very same SD card on all bodies, or did you use the R5 with the CFxB card ??
Regarding battery life, a lot depends on settings, and the default ones on the 'old' R6 were draining battery. Last month I was using the R5 in a hide in electronic shutter, which consumed just 2 batteries for the first 12800 shots. that's insane !
