Just my 2 cents but I'd really say it's best to review the CS DD as it is without waiting for full force. I know it's a reviewers choice but it gives us consumers a good idea of what the product is now instead of waiting indefinitely for a feature to be released. Especially given that it's been available for purchase for a few months now If and when it does get released then a video reviewing that functionality would be more than appropriate. (Similar to how phone reviews are done)
Good review! The cookies at the end, lololol. Just ordered one...excited to get it, coming from a CSL DD that I have had since October of 2023. I have found that the CSL loses FFB intensity and granularity over time (after about 20 mins), as I am using it with the Universal Hub V2 and a 320mm wheel rim. I can circumvent this somewhat, by assigning buttons on the wheel to increase gain while in-game/in-race on ACC...but it tells me the base is underpowered at moderate FFB settings given the UHV2 and 320mm rim weigh a combined 2.4Kg which is clearly beyond the comfort limit of the CSL DD to provide consistent performance over longer stints. Let's hope I don't have to wait too long for the CS DD...and also that I don't have any 'coil whine'. Was that condition present from early on, or did it only start after a period of time?
After seeing the interview with ex Fanatec CEO explaining why some people have waited and are waiting for deliveries, i understand why. They had an issue with the sync between the data behind their site and their internal database with stock numbers. So the people were able to purchase products which were out of stock. Interesting that you didn't say the cs dd felt stronger than the r12 really. It sounds like it obviously can hold the 12nm all day. But that the Moza can still hit the 12nm for as long as is needed? Is it safe to say a Simagic Alpha or CS DD+ would feel noticeably stronger?
Like a lot of people, I am on the waiting list for preoders of the DD+. I know it is impossible to compare something you didn't use, but would you say there might be a significant difference between the 12 and 15NM? Is the 12NM definitely enough? I am considering canceling the DD+ preorder and getting the DD that is already in stock. I presently own a CSL DD 8NM, so waiting more is not a big issue either. I would be pleased to get your opinion on it.
There's a 50% jump from 8 to 12, but an 80%+ jump from 8 to 15, so you're really getting a vast increase either way - I personally think 12 is absolutely enough, but 15 would make damn sure of it. Looks like the DD+ may be shifting soon, so I'd stay the course for now if I were you.
My Thrustmaster T300RS has 4nm and, especially at boot-up when the wheel calibrates, I couldn't image having 4x that power. No wonder emergency kill switches are popular. I do wish Thrustmaster would create it's own software that you could create profiles for different drivers, games, cars, etc., rather than just use the basic Windows game controller interface.
4nm really isn't that much. Sure it might look like a lot when the wheel rotates like crazy during calibration but that's only because there's pretty much zero resistance during the process. A reasonably strong person can overpower the wheel without too much effort.
Hello, I have a question. When your Clubsport DD is on but you are not playing, do you feel a slight vibration in your steering wheels? I have 3 steering wheels and in all of them I feel a slight vibration without playing. my cl dd was currently being repaired at fanatec because of coil whining and these vibrations. the coil whine has been fixed, the vibrations are still there.many greetings
you are the only person in the last year who has actually gotten their Fanatec base. with all of the problems Fanatec is having I am supprised anyone would actually order from them. did your base just get shipped to you or did you have to wait months and months like everyone else who orders a base?
is the coil whine not to be expected? i mean the thing is pushing like 300+ watts into the base, the transistors are kind of expected to be audible. All gaming GPU manufacturers suffer from the same issue when pushing high wattage towards transistors. the only thing you can do is insulate it and use sound deadening material to make it much quieter
It's a bit of both - plenty of bases emit coil whine to varying degrees, the only reason it's going back for repair is because the clubsport DD is supposed to be silent and they confirm as such. If it wasn't a recognised defect then it would just be an 'annoying noise the CSDD likes to make which will annoy you when the room is quiet' - I think that'd be worse. Let's reserve that conclusion til it's actually back in my hands, though...
I have the dd gt pro 8nm with fanatec open wheel, i have a red QR with it (must be qr1?) , i never remove it so im not scared of disconnection… but do you think buying a qr2 would be a PERFORMANCE upgrade? Thanks mate!!
QR2 is much better than QR1 in terms of overall rigidity, ease of connection and 'tight' feeling, so it's well worth the upgrade even if just from a future-proofing standpoint. However, it's not a lifechanging upgrade by any means so if you're happy with what you have, stick with it!
I remain convinced that it's a data mishandling/corruption somewhere that's affected the tracking/handover of orders to the logistics partner from around that time. Pure speculation, but it would at least explain why BF orders seem to be disproportionately affected, whereas newer orders seem to be going better.
Personally I feel it's well worth the jump up, the extra power definitely has an impact on excitement factor. If I was given a choice between 8 and 12 then I'd plump for 12 without hesitation. Will have to see how Fullforce moves the needle!
I'm not seeing any news out there, yet - I don't think there'll be any warning whatsoever when the news will come. Fanatec appear (by their updates) to have them completely ready to go, they're just not able to dispatch until Sony gives the final OK. Sucks for everyone involved.
Hi Danny, you're lucky with your RMA ticket. My timeline with a defective DD1 is: Ticket with video submitted 10th Jan, first response 17th Jan asking to enter serialnumber für QR2 in my account, and general troubleshooting steps, I replied within an hour. That's it, no further reply until now 😢
@@dannyleeracing WQR issue, Podium Hub is not recognized and sometimes the base does not even boot up. OLED display switches off and base freezes completely. Seems to be a common issue with DD1 and DD2.
Feel is so subjective, when the only thing that matters is the stopwatch. As such, any review should include some sort of objective comparison like average lap over a stint. It’s just another nm/haptic gimmick circle jerk, otherwise. Don’t get me wrong, Spend all the money you can afford or feel you need to impress ol’ mate Dave the builder, but definitely don’t buy into the arms race - The sheer volume of “near new” rigs put up for sale once the soon-to-be-ex-owner comes to the realisation that the stopwatch gives no fuchs about how much you spent/immersed you’ll feel. Wanna go faster? Turn more laps. Wanna be more immersed? Be sufficiently rapid to compete with someone. You only ever need one other person running a similar pace to make a race of it anyways 🤷🏽♂️
Couldn't agree more, it's why I also focus on tutorials/guides in almost equal measure. Money spent on equipment needs to be matched by equal effort into self-development or you'll be focusing more on gadgetry than real needs, but also there's a large section of folks that are totally cool with that. I could have been a bit more clearer on the actual performance aspect of it, though. I feel zero 'performance handicap' using the CSDD, whereas I may feel a fair 'handicap' using a 5nm CSL DD. This is one reason why I describe 12nm as the 'real level for completeness', but it's subjective as you say.
8-12NM is more than enough for most cars, maybe not for F2, F3, or some older ones. Having more is only good for extra details and headroom, but anyone who drives GT3 car with 100% 20NM base is mental, and def. not realistic at all...
I'd hang on to it for a while if I were you, at least until any updates come along that change things and Fullforce is fully quantified. The DD1 is a good, powerful base already!
I owned a DD2 and DD1. I have played with Clubsport DD for about a week or so. I would not do it. No peak mode as well. Sure it 12nm Sustained but DD1 on linear is sustained 15nm. Smoothness and fidelity, slew rate...all marketing crap. Enjoy your DD1 and switch when it breaks. Don't downgrade.
@@dannyleeracing yep, but I’ll avoid the fanatec ecosystem for sure. I just don’t believe the whole warehouse thing is enough of an excuse for not replying to emails etc after our money sits in their account, weeks or months on end, accruing them interest, but we have nothing to show 😬
Nobody can argue with that whatsoever - delays are understandable, they can happen - it's everything that surrounded it that did the damage to customer faith. I personally speculate that there were a set of calamities, a perfect storm, which probably took every available person at Fanatec a lot of time to fix and perhaps the fix has taken longer than initially estimated. Having experienced a few 'data disasters' in a previous life, they can really spiral out of control time-wise. Maybe a botched transition to the new warehouse, combined with an unusual delay on Sony's part, combined with shipping turmoil in the middle east, combined with Black Friday. In any case, some customers' stories on socials etc have been a hard read@@forestchunk
OK, Swiss cheese/perfect storm analogy aside, it's really simple. You stop, regroup, don't take any new orders you know you can't fulfil until you've got your sh%t in order, then start again. It really is as simple as that imo. Anyways, really appreciate you taking the time to answer these comments, I'll step off my soapbox now hehe 👍@@dannyleeracing
At the end of the day they lost your custom due to 6 weeks without adequate communication - it wouldn't even matter if absolutely everyone else's was fine, YOUR experience wasn't, so you justifiably walked away. A situation where nobody wins!
i feel obligated to post this so people don't go an buy a wheel on strength figures as how quickly it reacts is more important. These new Clubsport DD wheels are much better in that area than the CSL DD which are their main selling points. Even 8nm is more than enough, of you have your strength set higher than that its not realistic and its slowing ypu down as well.
Quality control probably just tests that the unit looks assembled properly and turns on, probably won't detect a small coil whine noise. Still a fault either way, but one that I can see slipping past generic quality control checks, so I won't hold it against them, just unfortunate. For what it's worth, Moza bases are not silent, but as it's 'expected behaviour' it's not really a fault. Fanatec seemingly designates this a fault, that's what makes the difference in this scenario. We'll see what the service centre says!
@dannyleeracing nothing mate. Emailed them once on 10th Jan but never had a response. I did have a qr2 wheel side added to my account for free and I've received that. Not sure if it's an error, a freebie for the issues or what. Just want my dd2 soon, thankfully I have a csl dd I'm upgrading from so I can still race. I feel for the people just wanting to get into this
i've been watching alot of video about fanatec. all of them have said the same thing like in this video. im more than likely gonna go with moza. but definitely not fanatec.
Exactly ... ty for the remark. Fact is, most "noobs" have little to no clue how to set up/adjust/tune a DD Base to get the most of it and end up using far more of the nm force than necessary. I use a MOZA R9 and as long as one spends a bit of time adjusting the software accordingly, there's plenty for what's needed. Even with the gain set to about 50-60% it will break a thumb if it catches you off-guard.
8nm is enough but I think another aspect people forget about is the extra detail stronger nm bases gives you to feel more detail and avoid clipping. But yeah you can dial 8nm back to avoid but Imo 15-17nm is the sweet spot but set the strength to 7-10 depending on vehicle.
That's the CSL DD which is 5-8nm - this is the Clubsport DD which is a step above. Bit confusing, I know, especially when abbreviated to CSL DD and CS DD
@@ItsJustCarl1983 hi buddy my CSL BMW rim shifter when playing long session the shifters would miss shift I sent them video showing the problem they said send it back so they can take a look at there workshop. They kept the wheel for 3 weeks and said there is nothing wrong with it? 🤣🤣 What a joke they are
Just know just like true force full force uses frequencies to give you more details so it will make things more noisey. Its like simucube who utilizes there coil whien for details. Sane for simagic both brands stated if they took away all of thw whine it would reduce details. Fanatec is the most silent servo wheelbase ive used in the big brands! Dont get simucube or simagic if you dont like noise. That coil whine you showed is nothing compared to other brands this is the issue with fanstec not even undrrstand there own motors and frequiency of a servo. Its funny because there policy is to just accept rmas now so nobody will eeslly know whats true or not because they always go oh yeah thats not normal. When every other brand using a servo tell you it is normal every servoe ive owned has a little coil whine also. At least the bigger brands like simicube and simagic. All have coil whine even my alpha has coil whine. So yall need to realize some units will have it. Also if you notice most units with fanatec who have coil whine it reduces in game. But yall cant get mad at coil whine then in the next sentense state you want full force. Its a frewuency based plus and the higher you put that setting there mlre noisey it gets and will not only output sound but give you more detail from it. Its like what simcube does with there coil whine they utilize it to give you more detail. Again can read what simucube themselves state on there own forum.
If Fanatec said it was totally normal, I wouldn't have RMA'd it, it would have just been a 'This base is noisier than others in an annoying way, but I don't hear it at all when racing and it also reminds me to switch it off after use' kinda judgement. It's definitely the noisiest of all the bases I've had, Moza bases have coil 'fizz' that's definitely noticeable but it's not as annoying as the mosquito noise the CSDD makes. EXCELLENT force feedback on the CSDD though, so 🤷
@@dannyleeracingyeah the big 3 all have it and all utilize it for details. It's kind of like what fanatec is going to do with full force it uses said frequencies to improve details. That's why I find all of this funny with fanatec and there support that they don't even understand the type of servo motor they are using. But that's because they aren't really st the moment doing the bedt job in keeping them up on details. Fanstec support will rma anything and there policy is to accept most things for rma now. So they don't even really argue it anymore just ask for proof then go yep OK rma! Meanwhile simagic and simucube both do not rma units for coil whine as it falls undrr normal noise in use. Simicube actually uses the frequencies from the coil whine to add in extra detail they stated if they were to try and reduce it that it would hurt there ffb. Which again is why I find all of this funny because the dd/dd+ is going to make more noise with full force at times as it will be using said frequencies for details also. We will actually hear the noises to. So I hope people can relax and just enjoy the amazing ffb its providing and just not worry about the coilwhine. I own an alpha plus and that coil whine is even louder. Type in simucube coil whine you can read what they state in the forums what simucube actually states. Then type of simagic coil whine and go to that reddit page will be the first post or maybe a little down but someone shows a video and every comment tells you that they have it also. So yeah just enjoy the unit man don't let it take away from the amazing feeling! The stronger the motor is it seems the more coil whine can come into play.
ACC and AC were also tested but yeah, iRacing is my bread and butter and where I spend almost all of my sim time, so is where I am best placed to judge. It's just footage at the end of the day.
On a long time sight is this coil wine something bad for the base? If i dont mind it can i sill use the base for a longer piriode of time? @dannyleeraing
It's been fine for me, it's just an annoyance when occupying the room 'quietly'. I just turn the base off when I'm not using it. The concern is if/when I sell it on, I'll have to advertise it with the defect and that's just gonna bite me.
@@dannyleeracing hey I recently had a spinal fusion and won't be able to get back to activities like riding my motorcycle for 12 months.bought the csl dd with power pack, c's elite V2 pedals clubsport shifter handbrake. Obviously I made a compromise on the base but truth be told I could have afforded a CS dd no problem. Any way my question is since I have everything at my door already all unopened would you send it back to make an exchange for cs dd (with the fact that I am likely to put more strain on my spine then what would be considered suitable) if you were in my position and not able to use what the cs dd has to offer would you consider just reselling it latter as more viable. What would you list a used csl dd 8nm q2 base and q2 lite wheel side p1 V2 for ?

Looks like the DD+ may be shifting soon, so I'd stay the course for now if I were you.
i did buy few times and also on black Friday and got delivery quick :)
A reasonably strong person can overpower the wheel without too much effort.
cannot w8 for new 290-300mm formula wheel from fanatec, for now I am more into simagic gt neo + alpha mini(measured 13nm peak)
I pre-ordered it as soon as it was available - time in transit was 24th Nov to 7th Dec but that's touched on in the video too
is the coil whine not to be expected? i mean the thing is pushing like 300+ watts into the base, the transistors are kind of expected to be audible.
Fanatec sells big weights and long waits.
Shipping must be an EU and UK issue. I've gotten my US orders quick. V2 pedals on BF sale were at my house in a week. DD Pro in the same time.
I remain convinced that it's a data mishandling/corruption somewhere that's affected the tracking/handover of orders to the logistics partner from around that time. Pure speculation, but it would at least explain why BF orders seem to be disproportionately affected, whereas newer orders seem to be going better.
I’m waiting as full force is the reason I’ll be buying it. Apart from that is it miles ahead of an 8nm gt dd pro/csl probably not?
Personally I feel it's well worth the jump up, the extra power definitely has an impact on excitement factor. If I was given a choice between 8 and 12 then I'd plump for 12 without hesitation. Will have to see how Fullforce moves the needle!
I’ll wait and see how full force plays out. It would be my main reason as I only run my current 8 at 6.
8nm peak vs 12nm continuous. The continuous nm is probably close to double.
any available news for the release date of clubsport dd+? im getting frustrated for the multiple times of delay
My timeline with a defective DD1 is:
Ticket with video submitted 10th Jan, first response 17th Jan asking to enter serialnumber für QR2 in my account, and general troubleshooting steps, I replied within an hour. That's it, no further reply until now 😢
Keep us updated if things progress - What's the issue you're having, out of interest?
Fanatec horrible customer service is why i just switched to Asetek. Happy and no reason to go back.
Got some Asetek gear just arrived, so I'll be seeing for myself shortly!
hope you like it. The Tk base that I got from microcenter is a killer deal for 12nm@@dannyleeracing
8-12NM is more than enough for most cars, maybe not for F2, F3, or some older ones. Having more is only good for extra details and headroom, but anyone who drives GT3 car with 100% 20NM base is mental, and def. not realistic at all...
I've been considering selling my DD1 for this.
I'd hang on to it for a while if I were you, at least until any updates come along that change things and Fullforce is fully quantified. The DD1 is a good, powerful base already!
I sold my DD1 and bought clubsport DD 12nm, and for me is clubsport DD 12nm better wheelbase than DD1.
14-15 is sweet spot 💯
Fanatec Full Farce™️ more like. Glad I pulled my order after 6 weeks of no order updates. Luckily got my card company to get my money back.
They've had a shocker this past few months, that's for sure. I hope they get things back on track but lessons must be learnt...
Which base reacts the quickest?
There quality control department seems to be the same people as the customer support or the lack of…..
@@dannyleeracing fair , best of luck bro
Goodbye Fanatec
@Reflected. Who told you GT7 was coming to PC soon?
@Reflected. Support and contact with Fanatec was always very bad , versus Fanatec sponsorships. It is a very bad company.
still waiting for my dd2 from 18th nov order.
Have you had any updates whatsoever? Folks will be interested to hear
I feel for the people just wanting to get into this
Sounds like they didn't do what a growing business should do and invest in employees as sales go up
i've been watching alot of video about fanatec. all of them have said the same thing like in this video. im more than likely gonna go with moza. but definitely not fanatec.
I race cars in real life and can confirm that the 8 Nm CSL DD is more than enough.
True. Lost a car in ea WRC, and it felt like a broken thumb. In reality it was far off, but the feeling was there.
Exactly ... ty for the remark.
I've heard this before, thank you for your comment.
@@adisonsichampanakhone1070what is this clipping you speak of?
i thought they were 5-8nm
That's the CSL DD which is 5-8nm - this is the Clubsport DD which is a step above. Bit confusing, I know, especially when abbreviated to CSL DD and CS DD
Fanatec robbed me 😢😢
Unfortunately that seems to be a common problem lately
@@ItsJustCarl1983 hi buddy my CSL BMW rim shifter when playing long session the shifters would miss shift I sent them video showing the problem they said send it back so they can take a look at there workshop. They kept the wheel for 3 weeks and said there is nothing wrong with it? 🤣🤣 What a joke they are
@@Ju-kv2xi ridiculous bro , sorry to hear
@@dannyleeracingit's what we call a servo whine lol
Still a Fanatec. You let alone after you give them your money
Rich Tea slots. Nice
They got some things right
And coil whine sounds like the kettle's boiled. I'd keep it for the extra immersion.
Lol... Testing force feedback in iracing 🤣
ACC and AC were also tested but yeah, iRacing is my bread and butter and where I spend almost all of my sim time, so is where I am best placed to judge. It's just footage at the end of the day.
You're still not faster than the #M3I5T3R in racing
Like for the cookies ❤ the best part of the video !
