I can relate to the dinosaur nightmares. I had a few a a kid as well.
My grandma lived right next door from our house. They have a very green yard, tall trees, and beautiful garden. I had to hide from a T-Rex, behind the trees, and make my way to the gate that connected our back yards. When I went through the gate, to be home, I turned to find tritops everywhere. Ran out, across the street, to my neighbors house, and there were Pterodactyl’s swarming the yard. Woke up to go to the bathroom.
And one Dino nightmare when I was pregnant with my daughter. Was on Jurassic Boat Ride, and all the Animatronics came to life. Three raptor like rexes pulled apart my Aunt. I tried forcing myself awake when one bit her arm. Took me awhile to wake up. Last thing I remember is hearing her screech “Oh god! Oh god! Ohhh goddd!!!” 😭

Ya'll missed a small line when Dr Grant was having dinner at Ellie's house. Ellie's husband worked for the State Dept. I don't remember if they mention his position but I always assumed he was fairly high up. He was the one who got the military rescue.
I'm So excited for your wedding! You two are great together!

Ellie's husband has a role has something to do with international relations... thats why she managed to send the army.
Food for thought, if they had been honest then Alan could have introduced them to Ellie's husband to rescue their son.

    • @thebkg
      @thebkg 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

@@javiercega international relations is the State Dept. The director probably chose those words because he feared too many wouldn't recognize what the State Dept represents.
Also, that's an excellent point regarding a rescue attempt. However, I seem to recall the parents mentioning they had contacted the State Dept already. And while Ellie's husband would be moved to flex his influence to rescue one of his wife's closest friends, who is also a nationally known public figure, there's a good chance he wouldn't have risked his career had Grant simply asked for the rescue of a boy even Grant didn't actually know. It was the Stedad's own actions that caused the problem in the first place. And given there was a negligible chance either was still alive And a high risk of death for any rescue team I honestly couldn't fault the State Dept for turning them down. Dr Grant's presence gave credibility to the possibility of survivors. That changed the circumstances enough for the risk of rescue attempts. Though even then they only went as far as the beach.
Edited to better clarify a sentence. 😁

Fun Fact, when they walk down to the operations center you can see the vehicle Ian Malcom was in when the raptor was pushing its nose through the glass.
Holden, on the herbivores not being aggressive, many of today's herbivores are highly aggressive (elephant, hippos, cape African buffalo, rhinos, Canadian Geese). I would in general assume some would be territorial and a lot will defend their young to a point, again, just like today's herbivores.
One of the theories for why the spino follows them is they hurt its sail and its angry with them. I know its dumb but that is one theory.
Jen, I'm fairly certain the guys running the "DinoSails" parasailing company were not legally there. There general look and look of the boat kinda screams shady.
On the kid getting attacked 30min after grouping with other after 8 weeks of solo survival, I'm just gonna assume he was in survival mode and upon reuniting with his parents he reverted to being a kid and dependent on them.
On how Ellie got the military out there, her husband says he works for the State Department in international relations and treaty laws when they are eating dinner in the beginning. So there is your "how", even if it is a bit weak because Ellie says "so you know Marks been working for the State Department now," making it sound like he is newer and probably wouldn't have the connections and favors yet to pull off something like this.

9:46 - That is actually my number one complaint about movies with dinosaurs in them: Dinosaurs were animals, pure and simple, and them would behave exactly like wild animals today do! They would not be raging through cities trying to eat people, they'd only hunt when hungry and they would go for mostly other animal prays (Many of them would not even be interested in humans as food: Some, like the Spinosaurus seen in this movie, were fish eaters and would probably not care for human flesh anyway)

I thought I would give some dinosaur facts in case you were wondering about the accuracy of these movies: In the first movie Alan and Ellie are digging for velociraptors in Montana. This is pretty weird because velociraptors are found on the other side of the world in Mongolia not Montana. This might be because they based the raptors off of deinonychus which is a close relative who did live in Montana. The deinonychus idea would also explain the size as deinonychus was around the size of a person but real velociraptors were a only about the size of a turkey. The velociraptors in real life also would have had feathers covering their entire body instead of the reptilian scales. The compys in the second movie would also have had feathers. The dilophosaurus from the first movie is also pretty inaccurate. In the movie it was pretty small, had a extendible frill, and spat venom. In real life however they were closer in size to a polar bear and didn’t have the frill or the venom of the movie counterpart. Spinosaurus in this movie was also pretty inaccurate. The real life spinosaurus wouldn’t have been so aggressive as it ate fish and wouldn’t have chased after much larger prey. It also would have had a more crouched position and a more amphibian like tail that would’ve helped it swim better. The biggest inaccuracy in the series is that barely any of the animals are actually from the Jurassic. In the first movie only the brachiosaurus and the dilophosaurus were actually from the Jurassic period and the rest were from the Cretaceous. Also a little lesser know fact is that pteranodon and other flying reptiles were not dinosaurs. This also goes for all the marine reptiles that lived in the ocean. Also fun fact, dinosaurs aren’t extinct as their modern relatives are birds.

    • @kevinnorwood8782
      @kevinnorwood8782 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Funny enough, there actually IS a Dromeosaur that lived in Mongolia that DID get as big as the Raptors in the Jurassic franchise. In fact it was actually slightly BIGGER. It’s called Achillobator, named after the Greek hero Achilles (they named it such because this raptor had an absolutely massive Achilles’ tendon).

Imagine that! Finding out a film like this was coming out because you saw a trailer in the cinema. Would never happen today and I will never get that feeling again. Kind of ruined the mummy returns tho because all I was thinking about was jp3 and seeing Alan again (who was my favourite character)

It's not covered in the movies, but the prevailing theory why the Spinosaurus is so aggressive in this movie is because it is a very early amalgam (hybrid), and was never intended to be an attraction at the park. So it was a genetic experiment that was left behind on the island. (InGen sending in the hunters to gather dinos in JP2, the Spino was never on InGen's list.)

It's amazing this movie came out as good as it did despite the general reception to it. The original script, which the actors signed on for, was almost immediately thrown out when filming began and rewritten multiple times. Most of the sets and animatronics were already built when the script was thrown out, so the subsequent drafts had to salvage the material already created for budget purposes while also coming up with an entirely new plot. Filming had already began while the actors were getting new scripts, and the conclusion to the film was written on set (and it shows).

Quick backstory regarding Ellie, in the second novel The Lost World (VERY COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM THE FILM.), she doesn't appear but they do mention what happened to the survivors and in that she got married to someone else so they kinda used that backstory for her here in the film sadly. In the books they weren't even a couple, they had an almost father/daughter relationship.
I think she was even already engaged in the first book.
It was just added to try and artificially make drama, just like how they made Grant originally not like kids in the movies while in the book he loves kids cause he feels they are the only ones who share the same level of excitement & wonder for dinosaurs as he does.
The movies kind of ruined a lot of characters cause they needed to make them into tropes.
Gennaro, the lawyer, in the books survives the park and was one of the greatest characters ever.
He goes with Muldoon to help rescue Grant & the kids, later helps when they need to kill the raptors (the park is almost infested since there are like several dozens of them), he gets attacked by a raptor in a hallway and fights it bare-handed until it runs away from him cause he punches it in the face.

Overall I agree with you both. It's no where near as good as the first one (which is almost impossible to beat), but I do like JP3 a lot more than The Lost World. I was 21 and in college when it came out. I had seen all of the films in theaters. I enjoyed it as a good "popcorn movie." Nothing exceptional, but definitely entertaining. My only major criticism is that the film seems to end abruptly after the Navy and Military show up. I remember the first time I saw it, when they showed up I was thinking "Oh! Here we go!!!", fully expecting some dinosaurs (at minimum the main Spinosaurus) to show up to attack them, and for there to be some major end battle where the Military starts unloading ammo into them. I'm good with the short running time (it didn't need to be a super-long film), but it could have used more of a solid conclusion.
As far as the second movie goes, it's not that Lost World is inherently a bad movie, and it has plenty of good actors in it, but overall there's little chemistry between most of the characters. The only relationship that I really believe is that with Malcolm and his daugther. I somewhat buy Malcolm's relationship with Julianne Moore's character, but not to the same extent that I did Grant and Ellie's in the original movie. The rest of the characters are just kind of "there."
Vince Vaughn is fine in his role, but nothing remarkable. He's better in comedies, and you could easily replace him with almost any other actor in that movie and it really wouldn't matter. The same goes for the other guy with them (I forget both the actor's and character's names) who ends up getting eaten by the two T-Rexs. It's not that either of these characters were "bad," but rather just forgettable and nothing remarkable.
Most of the villains are pretty forgettable. Hammond's nephew, who is the CEO of Ingen... I guess he works if having a relatively boring business guy as a main antagonist is what they are going for. The big game hunter who wants to kill a T-Rex is probably the most interesting "villain," and even he is largely forgettable - that actor has had much better roles. And most of the rest of the people working with them are kind of "meh" as well.
The other thing that IMO doesn't help The Lost World is having Ian Malcolm front and center. In the first movie, while he did express his problems and opposition to the park in a serious manner, overall he was the sarcastic, wise-cracking comic relief, while still having a serious side. In the second movie, he's not the main lead and 100% serious. On paper the character shift DOES make sense since he went through that traumatic experience, I can see why he wouldn't be as goofy and wise-cracking this time around. But from an entertainment standpoint, a lot of what I liked about him in the original film is missing.
While the new main characters in JP3 aren't necessarily anything exceptional, I found them to be more entertaining, and there seems to be a bit more chemistry between the characters in this one (nothing exceptional, but IMO more better than in the 2nd film). Grant being back as the lead works, as he is still pretty much the same character and didn't go through a tonal shift like Malcolm did.

I think The Lost World is far superior to the third film (and possibly even to the first)

My least favorite thing about this movie (apart from Amanda Kirby's constant shrieking) is that the Spinosaurus killed the Tyrannosaurus rex, *MY #1 FAVORITE CARNIVOROUS DINOSAUR SPECIES*
I do love how Charlie is watching the stage show "Barney's Musical Castle" as Ellie's talking to Alan on the satellite phone as he and the others are at the mercy of the Spinosaurus in the river. Yet another dinosaur I grew up with, let alone the literal first one I ever watched in my youth.
Also, I will say that I do love interjecting my own dialogue into this scene:

I am John Williams III so growing up whenever I would see the credits roll and see composed by John Williams I remember turning to my dad and asking him why he never told me he made the music for this movie and he would always laugh at me and say he wish he had that kind of money 😂

I enjoyed this movie. My wife hated the mother so much that she hated the movie. The Island is near Costa Rica. It's not like it's protected by the US government. there may have been a no-fly zone, but likely not well enforced.
The pterodactyls were very unrealistic. Such creatures would have a hard time taking off. They would likely on'y be able to soar downward, like flying squirrels. Like the Albatross, one of the largest flying birds, they would need a long running takeoff otherwise, and definitely couldn't take off vertically, especially while carrying a person. I saw a hawk in my backyard that could barely fly over my fence with a dead squirrel.

Imo, JPIII is the weakest... They made a mistake to me, killing the symbol of Jurassic Park (the T-Rex) and even change the logo for the Spino. In The Lost World, you have this first point to make a rescue mission, and everything change with the idea of InGen wanting to transport dinosaurs to create a new park. Here, you just have the rescue mission. The only good thing this movie brought to the saga is the fact the Raptors can communicate. The characters aren't very interesting, 2 of them just die in 2 minutes... I really think this movie gives a feeling of a TV movie and not so much as a cinema movie, compared to the others.

I was really into Dinosaurs around when this movie came out. i believe the reason they thought to switch focus from the T. Rex was because they started to believe the T. Rex wasn't a predator but instead a scavenger. so they instead shifted to a predator that was bigger than the T. Rex, the Spinosaurus. I also know the "T. Rex vision is based on movement" was debunked and that's about all the knowledge I've retained. this does make me appreciate the later movies for focusing more on the fact that they aren't exact DNA matches to Dinosaurs. if the science your movies are based on changes then you can explain away any differences that arise over time with "they were mixed with XY&Z"
