For those of you who don't know, the scene in the desert, where they're running from Scorponok...yeah that wasn't actors acting. They were really running in fear as Bay had told them to run like hell after warning them there were explosives beneath them. Their expressions were real as he set them off. Bay is that bitch when it comes to action films haha.

It was actually a big marketing thing for the movie to announce that Peter Cullen was returning to reprise his iconic role for the first time since the 80s. Course it's funny that Peter Cullen also did the voice for the bumpers on Toonami and when Transformers Armada was airing, he was promoting a TF show that didn't have him in it.
@@muigokublack6487 Not exactly. It wasn't a big marketing thing at first. They were originally going to get a bigger "star" to be the voice of Optimus. Tom Hanks is the name I heard but there may have been more. And the internet threw a collective shit fit that it wasn't Peter Cullen. The internet may have justified its existence for that alone. I only recently found out he was also the voice of Eeyore in Winnie the Pooh. I can't believe I never noticed that..
Fun fact this movie was nominated for BEST VISUAL EFFECTS, BEST SOUND MIXING, BEST SOUND EDITING and there is absolutely NO question as to WHY.
Honestly it should have won for Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing. That Transforming sound effect is ONE OF the most iconic sounds in all cinema history.
Not to mention the score for this movie and honestly all the movies is incredible.

It doesn't matter how many times I've seen the movie, the scene with Optimus and the other Autobots arriving on Earth will always give me the good kind of chills.

The first and third are the best imo. They feel the most proper to the franchise. The first has the best story for a general audience, but third as the best TF story for how large of a scale and how high the stakes can get. Huge fan of the TF lore and franchise.

I just hate what they did to Ironhide. After Optimus, he was my favorite Autobot.
After rewatching the Transformer trilogy I loved Sam WitWicky's development from being an awkward(Somewhat annoying) kid, to becoming more leader-like, and taking charge in the 2nd movie.

The “You’re not getting a Porsche for your first car” bit just gave me a traumatic flashback to when I was 15, we were driving to one of my brother’s basketball games and I was talking about how my dream car was a red ‘65 Mustang with a white convertible top, and my dad jokingly said “Well if I see one before we get to the game I’ll buy it for you.” Literally about 7 miles down the road, just sitting there in rural Vermont on the side of the road, was a red ‘65 Mustang with a white convertible top and a “FOR SALE” sign in the window. To my dad’s credit he did actually shake his head in disbelief, stop, and look at the asking price. Spoiler: I did not get that car.

Its impressive how amazing the cgi still looks for a 2007 movie.
That because cgi really shines when reflective surfaces are used. Same reason why the Lego movies look so good.

@@Eidlones I call bullshit cause the Cybertronians are LIVING metal. They move they think they.... don't breathe but you get it. They also transform and can't grow as they do so EVERY PIECE of metal needs a home somewhere. That extreme close up of optimus at any point only works because of good lighting, shadow and innovative ways making that light look good. Not only do you have him in natural light but his optics also emit light of their own around his eyes so that's something to remember with any extreme close up. They just nailed it.
I worked on this film , I spent all of 2006 making this film , from Feb till Nov 2006 it was my life morning noon and night.. we shot in LA New Mexico and Detriot it was a lot of hard work.. glad someone is still watching it ..
FYI that Bubble Bee / Barricade fight was shot at the Redondo Beach power plant.. and Barricade was called Brawl all threw production, then his name was changed last minute by M Bay , and the Tank was called Devastator then changed to Brawl at the same time..
also that pool that Ironhide gets out of was shot at Frank Sinatra's house in Chatsworth CA , Marilyn Monroe use to live in the pool house , and Judy Garland got married at that residence by that pool ..

Holden you asked why the cube made everything into Decepticons.
Early in the movie they say that they used Megatron to advance human technology. The Decepticon code is written into all human technology because it was all made from Megatron. Thats why the cube makes everything a Decepticon.

I saw the first Transformers movie in theatres with my dad when I was a kid. Made me love it so much.
As a kid, I LOVED the first 3 Transformers movies… I remember going to see the 3rd in the theaters with my friends for one of my friends birthday party. After watching this reaction (after YEARS of not seeing the movie), I now remember that I used to have basically the entire movie memorized… lol
The first Transformers movie is REALLY solid, especially the effects. ILM and the other studios did a fantastic job with the first one... As the films go on, they still look pretty good, but by the time the fourth one comes around, you can tell Bay was getting REAL lazy with his film making. Don't worry, it goes downhill from here!
The hardcore fans I've known all my life like these movies, but boy... If you don't have that tolerance, this is NOT for you, and a super fan who's a fan of the toys, shows, comics and games, you would LOATHE these movies.
The Blonde is played by Rachel Taylor, who plays Trish Walker in Jessica Jones.
The first movie was solid and I really enjoyed it, but it also showed that Bay fundamentally did not understand why people watch the Transformers. It spent WAY too much time focusing on humans and not enough time focusing on the Transformers. And... where were the lasers?

I'll never forget when I was in theaters, opening night, and that first helicopter transformation blew my freaking mind.
dude my theater was mostly adults, my bro and I were among the FEW youngsters, opening night and EVERYONE shrieked/clapped/stood up at SEVERAL points in the movie.
One was when Prime first speaks, the other is arrival to earth seeing him transform the first time, and when he transforms facing megatron. GOD DAMN the adrenaline from the movie was unreal. And the hype around it was insane it was one of the FIRST biiiig action movies since 9/11. That event essentially KILLED the action genre, and it was all either superhero or fantasy films for a while. Look at Harry Potter. BIG after that. Then comes 2007 with this movie, 2008 with Iron Man and BAM. Action is back baby. And right when it was needed thanks to the SHITTY years that was the mid 2000s.
If holden read this I extremely recommend transformers: prime to react one of these days.
What are the reasons?
1. They got back Peter Cullen to voice as Optimus in a show since the G1 series. Also same for Frank Welker for megatron in the show.
2. Despite it aimed towards kids it has a more serious tone to it.
3. Lore wise it took a lot from the IDW run of transformers comics to tell to the audience like main one is Optimus use to be Orion Pax, megatron as a gladiator known as megatronus, the tensions of transformers with the mark of primus (autobots emblem) vs those without them and being mistreated, to eventually Orion becoming a prime and things escalated further.
4. Actually got some known actors to voice like cliffjumber was Dwayne Johnson and later predaking voiced by Peter mensah If him in Spartacus, 300 and other similar Greek/Roman media.
If him or ppl go never heard of it well can’t fully blame yeah.
It was on Cartoon Network side channel called Hub similar to DisneyXD and nicktoons channel. Despite that ir did get I think 4 seasons and the movie that finished up the series. Also ALOT of comics which sorta help get some closure to after events of the Fall of Cybertron game that features the Dinobots from it meeting the transformers prime characters.
But yeah if you like transformers and want a show that’s bit more modern with a story that’s easy to follow with also tell cybertron lore then 100% watch transformers: prime.

I never saw the trailer for this movie when going with a friend. We both chose it randomly just to hangout and were actually expecting a comic movie.
We were surprised when we saw real people in the beginning of the movie, and our expectations were so low that our jaws fell down with the first battle scene happened and stayed that way until the end. We were completely quiet in shock by the credits.
Ah, back when Transformers had potential. I swear after I watched this I had a mental list of what worked and what didn't and with all the movies Bay directed after this he seemed to just lean directly into my list of what didn't work HARD. I like this one alright and the Bumblebee movie is fantastic.

They should make a film with no humans. I have a hard time enjoying these films where a human protagonist should be dead in every action scene but somehow survives. It’s the same thing in Godzilla and King Kong films. They could totally make a movie only about autobots and disepticons and it would be good
Dude when a movie theater cheers THREE times in a movie (it was rare back in the day) ya know you did something right. The people cheered when Optimus first speaks, when Optimus first transforms, and Optimus vs Megatron.
So basically anytime Prime did something BADASS. Which....makes sense.

When Jen first mentioned that "The Rock" was one of her all-time favorites, I had serious doubts that she and I, were we to meet, would find much common ground. But then she brought "Training Day" to Holden and the channel, and I concluded that she must have a few good qualities after all. (Training Day is one of my favorite films of 2001, while The Rock sits comfortably on my list of "most hated movies of all time".)
I wouldn't recommend most of the Transformers movies, but I think you guys should give the third--"Dark Of The Moon"--a shot. The Chicago climax is one of the most gargantuan action sequences I've ever seen, and one of the longest at over 40 minutes.
Bumblebee was pretty good
No joke I've seem this movie 50 times or so. I used to looooove it back when it came out and 15 years later I still do!
Also fun fact: Megatron is voiced in the first three movies by Hugo Weaving a.k.a. Agent Smith (and Elrond in LOTR). You can a hear a bit of Smith during the rooftop scene.

Megan Fox has more depth in this movie over any of the other characters. She has a past, she is actually smart, she's a grey character and actually 3 dimensional. I feel the movie didn't do the character justice and could have made her more important. I feel they wasted what could've been a really great character.
You should really watch Lindsay Ellis' video on Transformers and framing Michaela.
And she's super hot.
So was her portrayal of April O Niel. I loved it and then they wasted it in the second half of the movie. It is like it was two different movies. I loved her character arch in the first half of that movie.
As someone who grew up watching the transformers animated series, seeing them in live action always gives me chills.

I love the Transformers, even all of the Bay films. They're entertaining and I like the action. Holden, you should show Jen the animated Transformers: The Movie. I think she would get a kick out of it. Love you guys. Keep it up.
Jen has THE MOST realistic reaction to seeing the Autobots for the first time vs freaking out lol. Honestly if she were in that universe I think she'd be like Jack Darby and dip at first haha.

Really like the first Transformers. I'll push back a little on Megan Fox, I think the bit at the end with Bubblebee gave her a solid moment to show she's not just eye candy, she's brave cunning and ballsy. On her own she thought of a way to get Bee back in the fight. I like her character because you can see she is her own person but yeah, she's never fully explored. For me it's the comedy at times that doesn't always land and it gets worse in the next but it's fun and a solid movie to watch.

As a child of the '80's who loved the original cartoons and toys (my Optimus was the envy of all my friends) this movie was an amazing experience when it came out.

Despite how old this film is, it’s surprising how *mostly* well the CGI holds up. Visually, the film has aged quite well.
Random factoid: The screenplay writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman also worked on The Amazing Spider-Man and Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Also worth noting: the first film in the Transformers franchise was actually pretty dang good, but Revenge of the Fallen is the entry that is unquestionably the MOST divisive, by far.
Also also: I LOVE Jen’s insight into every film she watches. You can tell she isn’t trying to reserve her opinions and is being fully transparent and her commentary is very detailed. She doesn’t just give the bare minimum, she has a lot to say - good or bad - and hence why her reactions are so good!
Don’t waste her time with #4 or #5 (I forget the titles, that’s how unmemorable they were 😂😂😂), but Bumblebee is pretty dang good.

The reason the Cube only turns Human Technology into Decepticons is explained when Simmons (Sector 7 Dude) said all our technology was reverse engineered by studying MBE-1 (Megatron). All human tech is branched off of Decepticon systems.

I believe in Revenge of the Fallen all of Sam's Kitchen appliances turn into Decepticons and one was a Vaccum Cleaner.

Jen gave this movie a 8.5 is truly fair considering that this is a fast, explosive, action packed movie. The first 3 are amazing, the 3rd one was my favorite movie when I was 9-12 it’s not anymore but I will always cherish the memories and mind blowing action these movies gave me

The OG trilogy was pretty solid. I still enjoy watching them in spite of their major flaws, especially in regards to the underdeveloped human characters.
More like underdeveloped robots... They could sacrifice half of the human cast to give more screentime to the bots.
I really just like the first 3 transformers movies. Sure the second one isnt all that but i just like the action of them. Its just so cool

I can definitely understand Jen's feeling as far as powering through all of the movies in a short span of time. They're summer action blockbusters and I can see the formula quickly getting a bit stale in such a small burst of time. Hah. They're solid enough, though, I guess! Mindless action [emphasis on the mindless hah]
As a longtime Transformers fan [since WAY before the movies] I cant help but feel disappointed that the movies never made use of the deeper/more interesting lore instead of basic teenboy humor and action but they kinda are what they are. They're not the greatest pieces of film but they sure as heck were popular/raked in the cash
I actually feel like they utilized a bunch of obscure lore. They only really feel surface level because the movies popularized them. Who expected a major motion pictures to feature THE FALLEN, Sentinel Prime, or Lockdown.
I'm glad it's been officially rebooted and we might get actual competent storytelling now. I like these movies, but god did they need some more substance to actually work...

The soundtrack gives me goosebumps... I know people be giving the series hate, but this to me is the ultimate hungover/binge flick. I was 8 when the first film came out and I just remember it being the series I grew up with, might explain why I get so much nostalgia from it tbh 😂

Thank God. Holden, the scene of them making out on top of Bumblebee while the other Autobots watched is on of the weirdest scenes I can think of. Glad someone else noticed it.
You know what I realize? The voice actors from the classic Hasbro _Transformers_ series came back to play these characters for the original voice actors of Optimus Prime and Megatron (Yes, we're talking about the same voice actor for Megatron, that can transform into a small pistol).
I'm so glad you had her react to this movie. Transformers 2007 is one of my childhood movies. As an 11 year old kid I was obsessed collecting Transformers toys from this movie and the others that came after. This just took me back down memory lane.
As someone who grew up watching TF cartoons when they first rolled out, I still get goosebumps when Blackout first transforms. These were my “summer movie with my kids”, at least when the first 4 came out (even though #2 & #4 were much weaker). Bumblebee movie is probably the 2nd best of the TF movies.
Yea the first was so well done, builds up well, and the human story isn’t too sappy like Pearl Harbor. Also this was when humor in a serious action movie wasn’t as prevalent, so it felt really fresh.

Fun fact about this movie: Apparently this movie has a shared universe with ther 2009 Friday the 13th movie.
The reason why is because the character of Trent DeMarco who we see with Mikaela in Sam's class and later at the park is in Friday the13th playing the exact same character with the same name of Trent, played by the same actor Travis Van Winkle. His character *spoiler alert gets killed by Jason in the movie so his character is canonically dead by the time Transformers 2 comes out later that same year. Not like Mikaela was interested in staying around anyways lol

First off I absolutely love Jen’s reaction because everyone I’ve known who has seen this already had a deep nostalgia for transformers that informed them. This fresh take of something that has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember brought me back in a way no other reaction has. So thank you.
The first movie I ever saw in theaters was the 80s animated Transformers. Despite being a glorified commercial (as was the series I loved so much), the lore grew to be very deep. It was my gateway into channeling my imagination into world building. (Tolkien's works became a significantly major boost afterwards).
The live action movies were exciting like the 80s movie was, but was disappointing that after so much lore evolution, the live action reverted to the more shallow commercial like feel.
That said I still enjoyed them for what they were, fun action films featuring characters from my childhood.

Fun fact…when they filmed the junkyard breakout scene…the dogs actually broke their restraints when chasing Shia…he was actually running for his life!!! If Jen starts getting Transformers fatigue, you could always stop after the first 3 then watch the last 3 (including Bumblebee) later. There is a natural stopping point after 3 due to how they were originally made.

This movie will always be in my memories. I watched in the theatre. When the transformers arrive on earth and Optimus drives up to Sam and transforms. It was just pure magic. All those parts moving..music..just perfect. It was sadly in my opinion also the best Transformers movie of them all. Bumblebee is the only one i really enjoyed afterwards. The movie i mean.

Damn this movie still looks better than most current films. I haven't watched it in years, but it still really holds up. It's actually a great Transformers movie, just takes a long time to get going. TF3 is also great, but 2 is a mess (But a masterpiece compared to 4 an 5). The Bumblebee movie is brilliant, and I wish they'd just go forward with that sort of soft reboot. Much better designs and the 'lore' could realllllly use a clean slate 😂😂
Good news then: they are doing a complete reboot with Bumblebee being the start of the new continuity (and yeah... There was a lot in that movie that was incompatible with the earlier Transformers movies. Almost X-Men First Class levels).

@@XZAVIER-DAA-GOD It is! I did not say otherwise... But it's true that it threw continuity out of the window and led to the need for Days or Future Past (well, technically that started with Last Stand Origins Wolverine... But it certainly exacerbated it)
Going in knowing nothing about the franchise and characters is really the best way to enjoy these movies and not get annoyed at how different the designs and personalities of the characters are. I grew up with these movies so these are what I think of when I think "Transformers". I am a massive fan of these movies bad parts n all, so I'm super excited to see you guys go through them all! Number 3 is my favourite (just a great action movie) so I'll be especially excited for that one. Can't wait to see Jen's reactions to these movies (and see what people think of number 5...), keep up the great videos!

Peter Cullen was an absolute genius in doing his voice. I’m so glad these movies got made with him. And I never should a movie be made again with out him

Tbh, my theory about why the Allspark only made Decepticons was the fact that ALL modern tech was reverse engineered from Megatron himself, so the Allspark only reawakened them. So any tech made from Prime would automatically become Autobots.
First Transformers is a classic. Just saw it in theaters & was flooded with nostalgia
This movie came out when I was 6. Being sci-fi, aliens, robots, etc. I probably watched it 40 times on DVD. Of course, I never cared about the teenage romance plot and all of that back then. I know that's what dragged many people away from this movie, who just wanted to see giant robots fight. To which, I highly recommend The Transformers Videogame that came out along with the movie. It has the same plot of the movie, but reduces the human participation to a 1%. The cherry on top is that it also lets you play as the Decepticons in an alternative version where they and Megatron win at the end.
Personally I like most of these movies with the exception of two of them. Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen (the 2nd film) and Transformers: The Last Knight (the 5th film). I even go as far to say that I think Transformers: Age of Extinction (the 4th film) is very good. My personal favorite though, regardless of what anyone says, has to be the third film in the franchise, Transformers: Dark of The Moon. Bumblebee is great and can’t wait to see what they do with Transformers: Rise of The Beasts in 2023.
NTM, the animated movie coming in 2024 and the unrelated project that apparently Hasbro liked the pitch from the directors so much they said, go for it!

@@iamgoose663 the animated film is going to be a prequel film set on Cybertron and will focus on the relationship between Megatron and Optimus. Is directed by Josh Cooley, director of Toy Story 4.
The untitled film is being directed by Angel Manuel Soto, and like I said Hasbro apparently loved his and the writers pitch so much they said go for it. This was back in 2021, no word on it yet. Like I said, it’s unrelated to Rise of the Beasts and the animated film.
Take this with the upcoming release of the new Transformers series Earthspark this fall on Paramount+, plus the plans of Rise of the Beasts to kick off a new movie trilogy. Transformers is poised to make a comeback!
The only thing I like about the Age of Extinction is the dinosaur robots. Can not recall anything else even though I've seen the movie like 3 times. And I think second movie is on par with third movie. I liked Optimus Prime in the first movie, but he was awesome in the second movie. Shia's character had some growth and the story was more interesting than the third movie's.
Tbh besides some of the forced jokes in 2 it’s helluva lot more bearable and enjoyable than 5 ngl

This movie brings back so many memories. I was in 6th grade when it came out & remember being blown away by the VFX & they still look really good. Kinda like the first Iron Man, you could almost feel the suit & all its scratches.

That scene with the cop car was a decepticon known as barricade. He’s the cop of the Decepticons and one of Megatron’s most respected and very serious when it comes to StarScream and the other Decepticons and he doesn’t give nonsense. The side of him said “punish and enslave”

The first and second one are good, the third one is meh and dont get me started on the mark wahlberg ones. Bumblebee is a spin-off but also very good.

This is easily one of the best movie series out there, and if you want to distinguish the good guys from the bad guys the good guys are always are kind of Smooth and the bad guys always have really sharp bits all over them

The 2nd is actually pretty decent. The Optimus vs like 7 decepticons scene is my favorite transformers scene including the og 80s movie. Dont want to get into why because spoilers but his line to start the fight gave me chills in the theater and the music is amazing.
Revenge of the Fallen has the best action scene in the whole series with that forest fight. Optimus vs Megatron, Starscream, and Grindor

I've been a HUGE Transformers fans since I was a kid(had optimus and unicron toys) and seeing the trailer for this movie BLEW my mind then watching the actual movie just had me fall in love all over again. It's actually a great movie and since then, I've seen it a ton of times because my freshmen autoshop teacher would always play it in class when he wasn't there which was quite often lol. Also I'll never forget seeing the Cloverfield teaser before this movie played!! Changed my life forever and made me fall in love with movies ever since.
Fun trivia: the human that megatron flicks away at 27:22 is a cgi version of Michael Bay.
Ironically, despite being included as Michael Bay's typical token piece of meat, Megan Fox was somehow one of the better written characters in the movie franchise, with backstory and actual skills.
That whole "Shut up Grandma!" sequence with the FBI showing up and tackling him into the pool is still the best part of the movie though.
I remember watching the first and second transformers a lot as a kid, I haven't really watched them as an adult. I also missed quite a few of them after the third one so this is like a trip down memory lane

The first one was a game changer for me as a child, and it was so fun to watch, and I will appreciate the first one for my entire life, the rest of the franchise is a different story
The film continuity should've stopped after the third, which is the best in my opinion as well as my favorite. It wrapped everything up pretty neatly, and 4 and 5 really felt like they just dragged everything on when it didn't need to.
The Optimus Prime transformation had thousands of individually rendered moving parts, all working in concert. It took a massive team months to create that one transformation
