MOM OF 8 KIDS HOMESCHOOL ROUTINE!

  • Okay- so no two days ever look the same, but here's just one day in our "homeschool life". With 8 kiddos, it's a juggling act to get everything in, but we've learned to go with flow. I'm also beginning a new weekly activity with the kids, known as Poetry Tea Time. The kids LOVED it! Days like today remind me why I love homeschooling. Not everyday is fun or even smooth, but it's worth it!
    I'm also sharing how I create a HS unit, how I plan it and pull it all together as we are finishing up our Space unit and moving onto to something new!

    Sooo many questions! 1) do you allow your children to take breaks as often as they want? 2) when you said you “lost children” during the history part, did some ask to take a break or do something so you stopped the lesson to give a small break? Or do they just leave? 3) if they just leave, do you continue on with the lesson for the 1-2 children left & those gone miss out on the lesson, or is it made up somehow? 4) with such a large age group and some special needs mixed in, how do you carter each lesson to meet each child’s learning level?

      It's easier than you'd think... they are all getting what they can, at their own level. People don't actually learn in grade levels, that's just how they set up classrooms in most schools. And different ages learning together, helps everyone learn better. But she's just letting her littles (under grade 3) get up and leave when and if they want. Doesn't mean they're not still catching bits here and there.
      They're getting exposed to so many things, and when things peak their interest, they stick around longer. Her older 2 are getting it all. Her younger ones are getting what they need.

      @marissamamawiththeoils1245 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I hope she gets back to you! I am thinking when she said "she lost a few" she meant the younger ones that she doesn't require to do the group studies yet. They are welcome to take part but they must have been excited in the beginning and then got a little bored so she lost them. 😉

    Yes to factual history! Honestly a huge deciding factor in my decision to homeschool was how schools in Australia whitewash history. My mum read aloud an autobiography of an aboriginal woman when we first got to Australia, I knew more about aboriginal history than my Australian born friends did (I still have alot to learn but now I have my side kick to learn with me)

    The tea time is such a cute idea and it looked like the kids really enjoyed it!
    Goodwill pretty much always has tea cups for usually $1 or less. Might be fun to take the kids and let them choose their own cups.

    Found you recently. May I ask you, how do you always have your makeup, hair, nails done and do all that you do? I homeschool three little boys and that just doesn't seem like reality. Is your husband supportive and hands-on helpful with all the children or in the house? What time does everyone including you go to bed and what time do you wake up? Would love to know or even a video on maybe just you. You know we other moms find these things encouraging and inspiring.💜

    Juggling 8 children... A huge house, two dogs (as far as I can see), a love life, house chores, shopping, looking beautifully put together, and entertaining your TH-cam channel, plus presumably hobbies? Finance? Problems? Other family?
    How on earth are you guys doing it?
    I go to university, live with my fiancé and have two dogs and a a biggish house to care for and I'm crumbling.

    Thank you for explaining how you don't "plan" your school lessons, but just track them! I have naturally been doing that too, but still feeling like I "have to" plan. But you are right, it just creates a burden and stress of feeling behind if you don't stick exactly to it. We get so much done anyways without needing to plan and life happens!

    I loved this! Back when I was first considering homeschooling when my girls were teeny tiny, you were one of the first homeschooling TH-camrs I stumbled upon. You only had a few videos (you also only had a few kids!), and I loved hearing about the way you homeschooled. You, along with several other TH-cam moms, gave me the courage to jump in with both feet, and now I am midway through our fifth year of homeschooling my fourth and first grade daughters.

    This was great! I'd love to see more of what a typical day looks like for each grade. I have 8 kids - the oldest 3 have graduated from homeschool, 2 are high school, and the 3 youngest are elementary school. LOVE LOVE LOVE! I"m a homeschooled graduated and I've homeschooled my kids for 13 years so far. I have one graduating (from a private high school) this year and I'll be starting my 5 yr old in the fall, so I still have a long way to go. I LOVE your way of homeschooling, structured yet flexible. I see that you have just as much chaos with littles coming in and out as I do with just one "little" but you seem to keep your cool, too, which is great to see. I LOVE read aloud time. It took me a while to get used to it, believe it or not, I didn't actually read that many picture books to the kids when they were little, but I've come to really enjoy that part! I also do "units" for science, or we sort of "unschool" that subject throughout the day or with TH-cam videos or yes, the husband likes to join in sometimes! I used to teach the middle two (we have 4 kids) together, but now that they are 11 and 14, they don't get along at all, so I separated them. Plus the 14 yr old is in 9th grade so his routine has changed a lot, so you might want to prepare yourself a bit for that. I only plan a little bit ahead as well, more like an overall idea, because lots of things come up with my health with appointments or stuff at church. Great job on Poetry and Tea Time! I learned about it a few years ago, but it didn't stick with us. You plan so well! I don't look ahead on lessons like that, but it's what a lot of people do. Great job! I have a ton of resources because my mom kept a lot of the books we used in our homeschool growing up. Otherwise, I use the library a lot! Especially with history! One thing I would love to see is how you handle kids who don't want to do their work and/or when they argue throughout the day. That's where I struggle the most. Especially being inside during the winter. Thanks!

    WHEN do you have the time to homeschool, prepare material, cook and clean the house? WHEN? do you have any help? It's amazing what you're doing
