  • Meloxicam is one of the most common medications prescribed. It is part of the family of medications called Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatories and is used primarily to treat arthritis pain. It can be a great medication to treat your pain as it is simple to take being only once a day. It is not without concerns though. Side effects tend to be similar to other anti-inflammatories and can be hard on your kidneys if taking high doses for long periods of time. In this video we'll discuss the other important side effects that you should watch out for as well as who should be more careful or even avoid taking it.

I have cycled off and on, tylenol, ibuprofen and meloxican, taking each for about 10 day's each. Tylenol exhibited the least amount of side effects but also was the least effective in pain management, ibuprofen provided a better level of pain management but I would experience stomach discomfort. Meloxicam was really great for pain management, I felt no stomach discomfort but would experience complete loss of bowel control every few day's. For me Ibuprofen seems to be the most effectively balanced!

My shoulder arthritis was terrible. Working the shoulders at the gym was painful. I take 3 10mg per week of Meloxicam and now have a pain-free balance for most of the week. No side effects and my workouts are much more productive with increasing strength 💪

I was prescribed this years ago, and it didn't do a think for me then so stopped taking them. I recently found the full bottle and tried again and found it helped a lot more than double dosing Aleve and IB, so now take one on Sunday and Monday as I bowl Monday night and it helps with my joint pain. Going to have to set up a visit to get it represcribed. Rather take this than Tramadol or any of the other pain killers because they really do not do a damned thing for the pain.

A very close friend of mine was taking two tablets of Meloxicam (sold as Mobic) for ten years for his ankylosing spondylitis (spinal fusion) and he just died last week of renal failure. He rarely got medical check-ups and only went to the hospital when he suffered some chest pains during an insomnia episode. His BP was 235 / 140 (above the dead zone) at that appointment. I saw him go from a normal healthy person to a skeleton with flesh hanging off in 18 short months. Get off these drugs people!!! We cremated him last week. He got all the bad symptoms too late. RIP.

Hello Dr. I have an off topic question. My son has neuro problems like Arachnoiditis and then he woke up to having blisters on his neck, face, Shoulder etc all on the same side. Took him to the ER and the doc said possible shingles. That's what it ended up being but the pain got so bad that we returned and he said it was PHN. He prescribed gabapentin. It's barely taking away the pain. It's been about 9 days since he first got the rash.
He has sleep apnea and the head gear in the back of the neck is really hurting him but he needs to wear his mask. What do think I can use to help with the pain?
Thank you kindly for your videos.

Meloxicam 15mg once a day makes my blood pressure go up 40+ points (systolic jumps from 122 to 166). I’ve stopped it and restarted it, and my blood pressure goes back to normal about 36 hours after I haven’t taken it, and goes back up the day after I do take it. I don’t know if it does this to everyone or not, but I’ll never take it again.
If you take it and have high blood pressure, try not taking it for a couple days to see if your blood pressure goes back to normal.

My husband was just prescribed this for his arthritic knee pain. He’s also on meds for high blood pressure so this concerns me. Worse, he won’t quit drinking alcohol while taking it. He doesn’t see it as a problem and I can’t seem to convince him otherwise. I feel that he’s now a time bomb waiting to happen. I fear that having a heart attack, stroke or bleeding ulcer from this might be the only thing to change his very stubborn mind about this.

At 52 & after 4 back surgeries, I've taken daily Meloxicam since 2011. The most alarming thing, to me, was the effects on my liver and the gastric bleeds. So I lay off it from time to time. The relief to my gastrointestinal system is almost immediate; taking a day or two to notice comfort. The abdomen also has relief from bloating. But the pain in your joints will be twice as bad.

    impact on liver?

I’m fairly sure it wrecks it. I base this opinion on the idea that if doctors say there’s a “ slight” chance of damage, that means there’s a certain chance of damage. I just was prescribed this stuff. The warnings on it were terrifying. I’m sorry, but this stuff doesn’t sound safe to me at all!

I’ve seen many studies that show gaba in large doses increases side effects but no added pain relief. I’d talk to your doctor

I’m a Big Pharma survivor, I know what you mean! Out of options, I did my research and now use medical marijuana for arthritis pain. It also works wonders with C-PTSD. (The Veterans Administration currently has marijuana trials).

Works great for me so far. I was prescribed it for inflammation in my foot that was very painful. After 48 hours on meloxicam the pain was down 80%. My step father and uncle were prescribed it after shoulder surgery and it worked great for them.
