I was safely on opiate pain medication for chronic pain for over 10 years which allowed me to have as close to a normal life as possible, then the CDC announced it's insidious "recommendations" which still wasn't a problem as my doctor knew I needed to continue. Unfortunately my doctor died and had to find a new one and that was a nightmare. I never had an issue yet they decided to force taper me to 30% of what I was taking and put me on gabapentin. Now my life is unnecessarily a lot more difficult and I don't see a real benefit with the gabapentin. Please do not confuse addiction with dependence and stop punishing people who haven't done anything wrong and who are already suffering beyond what most people understand.
Word for word your story is mine. Gabapentin did nothing for my pain, and I broke out with huge boils on my back and just. Rolling over onto one would wake me, and I was trying to treat them with salicylic acid. Once, I pressed on one, and that was disgusting. What came out was under such pressure! Amitriptyline made me manic, and Lyrica I lost all sensation in my hands. I couldn't feel hot, cold, or pressure. I'd test the tap when drawing a bath and burn myself getting in. I couldn't pick up coins off a counter. My life is over at 43.
Yeah I have been taking Pregabalin low dose for fribramyalgia for about 2 years & I need something different that isn't addictive. The 1st Dr had me on gabapentin & said it was all natural... non addictive. It made me feel horrible with no help. I was being treated for a pinched nerve also...
I say a prayer for ALL of us who are going thru neurological disorders & diseases. I send EVERYONE love💞😍, courage🌈🌺, strength💪, determination😬 & the hope🤞 for MANY brighter🌄🌱🌹🦋 feel good days !!
Gabapentin had a horrific side effect for me. I felt psychotic, like I was outside my body. I was so angry that I threw things, and thought about hurting myself. I went off it immediately, and within a few days was back to normal. Never again.
I just started this med for anxiety, depression, and bipolar. It's been about 3 weeks and I've started to have angry outbursts over the past few days. Is this how it started for you or was yours more sudden? I've got a visit with my doctor next week so I'll be letting them know. Thanks for any insight.
VA give me hydrocodone for years. My back has deteriorated over years, They said I couldn't get addicted, ha. Tired of the goofy feeling I said no more. Now they give me gabapentin but it only helps my lower back. It also makes my head goofy. Don't like it but there is nothing to do about the pain. Take it before going to bed and mid morning my mind clears. Don' t take much if I don't have to. I live with a lot of pain . You will as you get older like me. It seems that life. But the most I can do is to stay active, walk, work with your hands and legs as much as possible. If you set any time at all the body jumps all over you again.
I've been taking 900 mg gaba for over 5 years & fortunately, I haven't suffered from any side effects. I take 1 1/2 in the AM, & 1 in the eve. Also drink lots of fluids. 68 years, & I've never been an alcohol guy...fortunately.....
Thank God my Doc understands that people with true chronic pain do not abuse pain meds! If you do then you don’t have relief when you need it, awesome doctor!
I've had scleroderma 😅30 yrs and so much pain. Thank God my doctor understands and I am on pain meds. I wouldn't have any quality of life without it and now take gabapentin for nerves. Lowest dose
Same here...my doctor understands we don't abuse life saving things..opiates have saved my life...I can now walk to my kitchen and cook a meal, shower, walk on my balcony..I am 34...and have an awfulnpain related illness. I never once abused my medication in a decade
I'm very sensitive to any meds, but this stuff saved my life. It saved me from putting a bullet in my head. I would spend the night screaming into a pillow because of neuropathy in my legs. I don't need much of it to get relief. 300mg, 3 times a day. Literally saved my life.
This is good in all aspects and of course you were taking in scheduled and recommended dose , anyhow in my practice as a doctor in diabetic neuropathy aur in any other unremarkable restless neuropathic, this is a safe drug...(Dr.M.Ashraf..M.D.) New Delhi India
Psychedelics saved me from years of uncontrollable depression, anxiety, and illicit pills addiction. Imagine carving heavy chains for over a decade and then all of a sudden that burden is gone. Believe it or not, in a couple of years they'll be all over for treatment of mental health related issues.
To be honest, mushrooms are one of the most amazing things on the planet and it is natural, they serve in many ways not only for mental related issues.
Can you help me with a reliable source I would really appreciate it. Many people talk about mushrooms and psychedelics but nobody talks about where to get them. It is very hard to get a reliable source here in New Zealand. Really need!
Yes, Sporeville. I had the same experience with anxiety, depression, PTSD, and addiction... Mushrooms definitely made a huge difference to why I'm clean today.
I wish they were readily available in my place. Microdosing was my next plan of care for my husband. He's 59 & has many mental health issues plus probably CTE & a TBI that left him in a coma 8 days. It's too late now I had to get a TPO as he's 6'6 300+ pound homicidal maniac. He's constantly talking about killing someone. He's violent. Anyone reading this Familiar w/ BPD knows if it is common for an obsession with violence.
I’ve used gabapentin for several years with no ill effects. It’s helped me with nerve pain, anxiety and migraine headaches. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Im glad that most of you have had good results and no side effects!! I on the other hand had extreme side effects with the medication!! At first it was awesome!! Then it started messing with my Speech, Brain fog and impaired memory, tremors and severe depression 😥 I have recovered but it took time! I have been on others as well such as lyrica with different but just as serious side effects! It's difficult to push through the pain some days! But I at least can carry on a Conversation and hold a fork to eat with🙄
I’ve been taking Gabapentin for years for sciatica. I was so crippled with sciatica I was dragging myself across the floor as I couldn’t even stand up. Gabapentin has really helped.
I had crippling Sciatica too for 4 years. Started strecthing my hamstrings every morning, strengthend my core and began squatting weekly. Physical conditioning is the only way to cure it. Taking meds alone never cures anyone, you have to address the source.
@@nadinek7096 "Back surgery" has a poor to terrible success rate. I've read way too many posts of people in agony and regretting the surgery as the pain was far worse. Never jump into back surgery without very careful research. You may have to fly half way across the US to find the right surgeons and staff.
Took this many years ago for chronic migraines and seizures. It turned my life upside down and started me on my path to holistic healing. I will never put this in my body again.
Wouldn't everybody love to go to a holistic doctor for their issues? On top of my regular medicine medical degrees, I went to school to be a natural path but it's not covered by insurance by most people in the USA. Therefore we have to rely on doctors that are and as you know they're not talk much about nutrition or anything when it comes to the human body's functions when you do or do not do something like eat take supplements be vegan. Which I highly recommend. I could go to myself but I cannot afford what I would prescribe as far as food and some supplements. So I don't take gabapentin I do take other things that are addictive and if you are in a place in your body that you are not functional I don't understand why somebody cares if you're addicted. It's a trade-off it's an unfortunate one but it is a trade-off my life will be changing soon so I would imagine that I will ease off the other things and possibly never need them we'll see?
One of the unmentioned dangers of this drug is memory loss. I took it for fibromyalgia, but after being zoned out I stopped taking it. It works for pain, but I’m not willing to trade my memory or mental acuity for it.
It only helped with my nerve related pain, and did impact my memory. I found a study stating it kills brain synapses After I had quit taking it. :/ Also had an ex become addicted to it. It's garbage like many other Rx.
I was on 900 each night for restless legs, gave me dizziness, memory problems. I decided to try 600 each night, and most of the side effects went away. Sometimes you just have to adjust the meds to see what works for you. I am thankful for having a wonderful doctor.
Medication affects every single person differently. I'm really happy😊 that you found a dosage that works for you !! Makes all the difference in the world when you know what's going on w/your body & how you react to a medication. Of course amazing doctors are VERY RARE so if you're fortunate enough to have 1 hold on them !! Much love 💞 !!😍
My doctor put me on this medication at 900 MG per day. I have PTSD, Anxiety and Panic attacks, Depression and Fibromyalgia. It caused my depression to become so severe, getting out of bed was a chore. My doctor upon hearing how depressed I was to see a psychiatrist. I stopped taking the drug and within a couple weeks, my depression, blood pressure, anxiety and panic attacks are all under control. It did nothing for my Fibromyalgia, never even dulled the pain. I now have a new doctor that doesn’t give me medication that decreases my other medications or make me ill. Glad to have seen this presentation. Thank you!!!!!
Same here, I was also at 900mg and losing my mind. Neurotin put me in the hospital with only one pill for two weeks. I been on symbalta 30mg for 7 years and it replaced everything. No longer having the yo-yo effect from hell!
I have a decent sized herniation in my cervical spine that gives me some nasty nerve pain. Gabapentin has helped me survive until this resolves on it's own or with surgery. I'm sorry it didn't work for you but it has been a very helpful medication for me.
My 15 year old Chihuahua ChiChi has been on it for a year. He sleeps alot but when he goes out he goes all around the yard on a walkabout, when he see me he runs off tail in the air saying "You can't catch me." and runs to the door. Grateful he can take this medicine.
I was put on Gabapentin for bad nerve pain called complex regional pain syndrome/ FIBROMYALGIA. I have been in pain for many years and I am very fortunate that I know how to take my meds & I have never been addictive to meds. People that I know who have complex regional pain syndrome like myself say you can't get addictive to pain meds because the pain is so strong. I have to agree.
I agree too, I've had been kn pain meds for 15 years & still only take a couple a day. The pain is so strong that it already makes me too nauseous to take more than a couple pills a day.
@Ms Julie ❣️ I was on Lyrica too till they switched me to the Teva brand od Pregab mainly for my seizures and neuropathy the Lyrica still worked better for me however. With the lies from NHS I seen on my record thinking of doing some work I can do and go private
@Ms Julie ❣️ Yea definitely they are the most despicable amd despisable toss pot off piss lol. They dont care about our health just to waste our time amd lie on our record like we are a casino bet, they are pretty bad doctors, plus past couple years had some funny stuff with 2 female doctors after a seizure
I was put on Gabapentin for nerve pain, took it for seven years and fought through the memory loss, lost my ability to do math, and put up with the craziest dreams (and being tired ALL the time) when I weaned myself off it was the best day I've had in the last 15 years. BTW -DON'T just stop taking this stuff; that can give you seizures if you are on high dose. I struggle with nerve pain from damaged spinal chord, that will never go away but at least now I can remember a little bit of my life.
I am on 1,800 mg of Gabapentin a day for alcohol relapse prevention. I am 7 months sober and doing very well. I do believe the Gabapentin along with Naltrexone really help. 😊
I hope you read this. Long term gaba pentin use caused me to have zero euphoria from anything(Anhedonia). Gabapentin blocks your receptors and makes it nearly impossible to heal your brain after addiction. Also kills brain cells and slows down all neuro activity in your brain. I was addicted to opiates for over 10 years. Yes it helps ALOT at first but i wouldnt wish this on my worst enemy.
@@derekthemountaindawg467 I believe this. My sister, whos been on this damn drug, is now an acoholic as well. I believe, although Drs would argue that she has an alcohol problem, that she now uses this drug to give her the same effect as the booze does when she cant afford the booze, shes on a limited income. Thank you for sharing what you did.
Get off the Gabapentin asap. Also, ween off the drug as side effects are a nightmare. I went through something similar, and getting off was the worst 3 months of my life. It's unexplanable what you feel and go through. Then it took a full year to feel 100 percent minus to this day, I have poor memory and really struggle with names and numbers.
I took this medication for lower lumbar pain and had the worst, most violent nightmare of my life and I couldn’t wake up... at least in my dream! I told my doctor and he said don’t worry about it, everyone has a different reaction! I said doctor the dream was about you! He said, stop taking it immediately! This is a true story!
I have Severe Major Depressive Disorder and my doctor warned me it might worsen my depression, but it actually has the opposite effect! It makes me feel really happy and relaxed.
@@mitch5222 Yep, still using it. I've since had my dose doubled (from 900mg/day to 1800mg/day) due to my pain getting worse but no unpleasant side-effects whatsoever. I do experience moderate anxiety and tremors if I run out of it or miss a couple doses, but nothing bad from the med itself.
UPDATE..I've had multiple sclerosis for 24 years now & THIS medication has saved me !! I've been taking it for 23 of the last 24 years. IF it wasn't for this medication I would not have the quality of life that I do today !!
I also have MS as well as severe trigeminal neuralgia..17 brain surgeries, still have the trigeminal..and scleroderma on top of all that😜 Been on nerountin since before it was actually fda approved. It helps but i have to take pain medication as well..it suks, vut hey I'm alive and driving my family crazy😁so something must be working..haha.. I honestly wish ya the best as you go thru the trials and tribulations of this MS you face each and everyday..stay strong and give em hellz dear❤
It is a life changing drug for some. If it works for you without too many side effects then definitely keep taking it. Just ask your doctor for regular blood, kidney and liver tests.
This was prescribed to me as replacement for percocet, a regimen that worked well for me over 10 years. Gabapentin was the worst thing that ever happened to me. I still have residual short term memory issues years after ending this horrible treatment.
So glad to hear that I was not imaging the memory loss. I thought I was losing my mind. It got so bad I was unable to do anything until I took myself off of it. The withdrawal was hard but worth it.
I am with you. I have been on it for 6 months and am in the process of tapering off. This has been a wrecking ball on my memory. Withdrawal symptoms are the same as when I came off Effexor. Total nightmare even tapering off it the right way. Recently I’ve been experiencing the horrible skin reactions that he talks about briefly. The skin on my face is flaking off as if I have leprosy.
I am 75 years old with peripheral neuropothy. I have been taking Neurontin bid for at least ten years. I have had no problems with Neurontin.I have been able to engage in physical activity. I ride my bike. I regularly worked out at the Y until the coronovis (no, I don't have it).
@@pattijesinoski1958 I take a 300mg capsule two times a day. I am 75 years old. I don't recall what happened when I started taking it. But I have not had any physical or emotional problems with it.

It just relieves the burning in my feet and legs and horrible muscle cramps .. I take 2 300 mg capsules 4 times a day .. no bad supine effects ..but I would be miserable without it ...all mads have side effects .. but for me this is a lifesaver ..
I have severe peripheral neuropathy. It started 10 years ago as tingling in my toes. Not one of the doctors in my clinic listened to me. I am not diabetic. The nerve damage is up to mid--thigh now. I had to start using a wheelchair a year ago because of pain while walking and balance issues. My legs are tingling bags of lead. I finally couldn't take the pain and they started me on Gabapentin about 4 years ago. Gabapentin makes the painful tingling somewhat bearable. I was finally diagnosed a few months ago (!) after a nerve conduction test. They don't know what's causing it. Even brain and spine specialist is stumped. My question is: if you've had neuropathy for 10 years, how the heck can you be riding a bicycle?
Like any other medication what works for one person may be devastating to another! Always be aware of how you feel and take action when you don't feel right!
@@Delilaah57 I agree with you on this. Daily I see so many injured or dead from it. If you suffer any health issues the likelihood of having bad reactions greatly increases.
I spent 10 years with throat spasms that would mimic heart attacks. Gabapentin saved my life with lower dosage three times a day. I would have ended my own life, had a knowledgeable doctor not stepped up and put me on it. It's even helped with other neuropathy issues I was having. Gabapentin did exactly what I needed it to do, with no noticeable side affects.
thats crazy didn't know the extend of this drug i take 100mg 3 time a day for my perianal abscess but havent get no side effect or withdraw like they say im not even addictive on the other hand oxycotine is a different story
Stop the war on chronic pain patients! Instead of prescribing psych meds or tranquilizers, use what actually helps us. Opiates. We deserve to have some sense of normalcy. The meds mentioned here caused me problems with mental health. Luckily, i realized it fairly quick. The way chronic pain patients are treated is cruel.
I have HORRIBLE anxiety and depression. This stuff helps me feel normal. Y'all need to understand that this changes the way your brain fires. Personally, my brain wiring is all wrong, so this stuff makes it work normal and I don't feel like I'm having a panic attack every 3 hours. It's great for me. I never slept well and have always felt tired. So while i still feel tired, i sleep so much better.
20 years ago I fell at the local mall and broke my right humerus to pieces and when I landed right on my left elbow when I hit the ground. Three days after I had the arm "set" my left hand felt funny and my little finger, my ring finger and the one next to it (I don't know the correct name for that finger!) got hyper sensitive X's a zillion. It was awful! If those fingers touched anything, it felt like I was getting electrical shocks. I had to have someone help me put my coat on cause I couldn't bear for any of the fabric to touch those fingers. Well, I had to suffer for a year because my Fx's arm didn't heal right and I had to have an OR to have plate and pins put in. Only after that, did myself and my Doctor try to find out what was wrong with the left hand. After quite awhile, a chance meeting my doctor had with someone led to my diagnosis. I saw a neurologist and what I had was "Chronic Sympathetic Syndrome". I had nerve conduction tests and the doctor said that when I had my fall and landed on my elbow, the nerves were going crazy from that - it is like hitting the "funny" bone - he gave me Gabapentin and it was like a miracle! He told me it was a an epileptic drug? Anyways, I am still on it, and like you, it helped give me that great quality of life.

It's prescribed to me also ,I'm use to taking a medication and having it work asap so with gabapentin I had to hurry up and wait to feel better I had to restart taking it too many times and I finally just followed the directions and it is a great thing I didn't give up on this medication, I personally don't want anything in my system all natural and only used medication prescribed by a doctor for sergery"s and recovery in the hospital but when I had my wisdom teeth out my Step mother who was employed there told the dr,don't give her any pain meds ,she can take tylenol or ibuprofen at home with her. I have been prescribed this after surgery. It did not work at all for me. And it made me dizzy, I had double vision and anxiety. I have tried it twice for a month each time. I wish it worked for me..
I was on this for about a year for spinal stenosis causing neuropathy in my arm and leg. It was prescribed for me by a neck and back specialist along with taking 2 of a 3 shot series of Cordozone shots near my spine which were extremely painful. The Gabapentin caused me to feel “off balance”. Not dizzy, just slightly off balance. I weaned off it and went for accupuncture treatments as an alternative. The accupuncture, 10 treatments, eliminated all my neuropathy. No more drugs that only mask the symptoms and do nothing to provide a cure for me. I’ll go old school from now on.
Thanks for bringing up acupuncture it can really help for some people it worked little for me, I find with my spinal and cervical stenosis massage and physical therapy work to help. Good for you for listening to your body.
I have spinal stenosis also.Mostly the pain on my right leg, terrible.I was given Gabapentin for 3 years.I also felt off balance and had so many falls.I felt brain fog and just plain tired.I went off it also,I’d rather have the pain then that hopeless feeling.
I also had trouble with gabapentin causing dizziness and poor balance. My doctor kept reducing the dose until we decided this was not a good drug for me.

I’m 52 and have been prescribed this for night sweats at 300mg at bedtime. I began pre-menopausal symptoms at 43. I would wake up soaking wet and have to change my clothes as well as put a towel down so I wouldn’t sleep on wet sheets. This med has been a life saver and until I’m out of menopause, I’ll still take it. But I appreciate the information.

And I am premenstrual myself.. just had my period this past week after not having it for the 7 months(again) been in premenopausal myself for quite some time since my period wasn't coming in after 6 months .. but that's been going on for 7+ years now.. so I didn't pre-menopausal too at 45.. had a baby at 42 .. now I'm gaining weight and I know this could be a common fact when your premenopausa.. but I still despite. having gabapentin Feel.. like it could work for me in one way.. but the weight gain is not great ..also .. it has also I believe to caused me chest pains too. Nothing can be written in stone until I start to lose weight that this caused my weight gain but I also have a feeling covid and not going outside could have made me gain weight but I notice as soon as I started to take the gabapentin my feet swelled up to a balloon and also around my ankles and my knees and also to me it's not risk to get fat and have other problems .. just because it might help in one way .. it ends up causing me more problems .. I'm not going to take it no more. I was on for 4 x600 a day.. but I'm glad it works for you and you're not experiencing weight gain..
That's weird. I had a stroke in 16' and now have night sweats and it's worse if I take it. I feel for you though! Waking up 2 or 3 times a night having to change clothes just drenched from sweat and putting a towel down. I hate when my pillow gets soaked. Then the next day you spend the day trying to rehydrate.
@@mr.woowoo8826 all the night sweats causes dehydration. Drink electrolytes to get your potassium and magnesium. Listen to dr Eric Berg who teaches about the body and what we really need with our health issues. Not a concoction of chemicals that’s unnatural with side effects that can kill you. Take supplements that your body needs. That works instead a life of chasing the medicine for the side effects. I understand the pain, had it for years and drs couldn’t even diagnose it so I only got worse because the root of the problem was never diagnosed. It ruined my health. Learning to feed our body the nutrition we need we can stop issues at the root of the problem not just treating the symptoms.
@@bienvenidadeleon7706 yes my doctor told me that gabapentin is strictly for nerve pain and mine was sciatica nerve and it does help that as far as anything else I don’t have a whole lot of knowledge really none about gabapentin that’s why I watch this video I don’t want to be on something for years and then it be addictive and go through with drawls and have a problem getting off
An excellent commentary. I was prescribed 25mg Pregabalin three times a day for severe post Shingles pain. This was in conjunction with 37.5 mg Tramazac Co two tablets three times a day. The result was disastrous. I am 78 and apart from low dosage heart meds I am pill and drug free. These two meds combined shut down my gastric tract, so that I could scarcely eat or drink. It is now weeks later and I’m still struggling. From South Africa.
I hope for the coming of day or weeks you'll be better. 🤗 In my experience after taking pregabalin 75 mg every night for 3 months, at first 3 days it was good I can sleep easily without worrying about my painful CTS, I was advised to continue the medication. But eventually the pain cannot be tolerated by 75 mg so another doctor ordered to make it to 150 mg every night. After taking it I felt weird with my heart, like the feeling of having a heart attack and I cannot feel my lower limbs for months. I stopped the medication for a year before I was diagnosed with heart and liver conditions. I had 2 different months with a blood test that indicated a heart attack. I'm not sure if that relates to pregabalin, but while I'm taking the medication I developed nervous, irregular heartbeat, swollen legs and feet. And the feeling of seizure attacks was experienced. 😢
my local pharmacist litterally told that i did not know what i was talking about , that Gabapentin is not a anticonvulsant , I told him that the fact that he is ignorant to what his consumers are taking and what they are taking it for was quite alarming and i suggested that he take a refresher course
@Carol Brotherton My vet prescribed it for my newly rescued dog for pain, too, when she underwent emergency surgery for pyometra, and again when she had all but one of her teeth removed (both at 17+ years old).
I’ve taken several medications over my 50 years. I was on this for over a week and had the worst anxiety attacks for the whole time that got progressively worse. I couldn’t stop shaking and vibrating and wanted to cry. I’ve stopped two days ago and already feel better.
I was given it for chronic neuropathic pain disorder. I lasted 3 days, my mouth was covered in blisters, my throat became very tight and I was drooling because I had to concentrate hard on swallowing. It was absolutely terrifying. Always have someone check on you when starting new meds.
Wow, so happy you mentioned the suicidal thoughts. I was recently started on this again because of the CDC wanting to get rid of what had worked for over 20 years. Now life is miserable and makes me wonder if it's worth living. I also have vision issues, nightmares and just feel rotten. Thank you too, for saying Lyrica is the same as Neurontin. I took that for ages when much younger and it did nothing for me. I am allergic to salicylates, which fill my lungs with fluid and before we figured it out I had had many pneumonias, 2 CT scans for bleeding lungs. I read that Gabapentin, when combined with narcotics, increased the efficacy of the opioids. I did not know that it was addictive, however, I have severe nerve pain, among other issues, and I have tried this medication before and was put back on it by my doctor again recently. When I’m on it, I sleep 15 hours a day and have horrific brain fog. It’s hard when you can’t remember how to butter bread because of medication. I felt very stupid. It is an older drug and there are newer drugs out there with less side effects. Topamax helps with nerve pain as well, but the brain fog is just as severe if not worse. But I didn’t sleep 15 hours a day and it cause weight loss instead of gain like gabapentin did. I’m glad some people get relief from it, but for me it just adds more issues to the ones I’m already having.
I've been on 600 mg x3 a day o don't have side effects. I've tried topomax it didn't work for me. I think it's try it see if it works for you. God BLESS
If you’re combining it with opiates you’ll have that fog. I take a variety of medications and I only have fog because I don’t sleep well. My back pain is bad. So it’s different for everyone. I got off opiates and feel a lot less foggy!
I also have taken the Topamax I’ve taken so many different medications I can’t remember them all and less I hear the name and brain fog oh yeah I fight it every day

I was on Hydrocodone for almost 7yrs and I found that I kept needing more and more to get the same pain relief. So my Dr and I decided to start using Gabapentin and tapering down the other. And now today, I only take one of the pain med and 3 gabapentin a day and get even better pain relief! So for me the gabapentin was a blessing. But thank you for the info Doc!
Yes for certain people who absolutely NEED it but like I was prescribed for anxiety I don’t think it should be prescribed like that, I’m stuck on this shit for 3 months now, and guess what the worst part is. I got through all the withdrawals on day 7, I took a bit of an extra piece of suboxone that day and just assumed that the withdrawal was from suboxone the entire time cause I felt 100%, then I started using the gaba again because I thought I hadn’t got dependent yet! fuck my life dude
@@rosannecole4992 I got off it by the way just for the record lol, had to taper super slow 50-100mg at a time using my scale and I agree its definitely not for everyone
I am 55 years old and i just had a few major operations, im prescribed the maximum 3600 mgs each day. Ive taken it since it was introduced in the 90's. I love it and don't ever want to be without it!!!❤
This medication made me cry almost non stop! I'm a very positive person by nature but after 3 weeks of taking this everything made me cry. I also started having suicidal thoughts. And it did absolutely nothing for the pain. Different doctors keep trying to prescribe this and similar things to me, but they never work for pain for me and the side effects are so scary that i prefer the pain.
I also cried constantly, my mood was at an all time low. I would try to talk and the words wouldn't come. Never want to have an experience like that again
I also became suicidal! Out of desperation, I started on an anti inflammatory diet seven years ago and gluten-free three years ago. I can honestly say that my pain has diminished 80%! Sugar is the worst inflammatory just like sodas, GMO, junk food and any food with artificial flavors or additives. I eat organic. I now make my own organic turmeric paste. I add it to my meal or make Golden milk daily.
I have really bad pain low and mid back. I want to do what you are doing, I have had pain for many years and afraid that the doctor will stop the pain meds. I am on Gabapentin also. Can you please tell me how you make the turmeric paste and turmeric milk? I would so appreciate this!
@@TheRuthyc of course! I was told it’s from Wellness Mama but I didn’t find it in her cookbook or 5-Step Lifestyle Detox-which I ❤️ Organic turmeric powder 1/2 cup Organic black pepper 1-1/2 TBs (Amazon) Olive oil 1/3 cup 1 cup water In a small pot slowly mix the turmeric with the water at medium heat. Keep stirring slowly (I sit on my stool) for 5/7 mins, add a little water if needed. Once you can see the bottom of the pot, remove from the burner (or it will clump) and slowly add the rest of the ingredients. Store in a Ball jar in the fridge. I add it to my my meals besides Golden milk. Enjoy 🤓❤️
Thanks Dr. I appreciate the info. I Enjoy your passion for helping people, as well as your "bed side manor". When someone is sick, or suffering, kindness and loving demeanor is where its at. Thanks!!
It is VERY important the way the medical field treats a patient! Too many lack that ability. Seen it too many time's. Patients need to not be treated like they aren't just another number!
It took me about a year to realize that’s why my close-up vision was getting so weak, I just thought it was my age, LOL When I went off of it it took about a year for my vision to come back and I’m so thankful that it did...🙌🏻
Those doctors don’t know shit sometimes mine keep pushing me to take it for my feet nerve. I wanna be able to move my toes again not kill pain that’s tolerable. Stupid guy
You should always do your own research on a pharmaceutical before using it. Even with Natural products if your Natural Health Professional doesn't discuss with you if there are any possible side effects. Or if you have any health problems that it could possibly affect! Not all Natural Pathics are trained the same. Just like Physician's, beware ...
For what turned out to be Diabetic nephropathy, I felt like I was run over by a truck, then set on fire. I was give Oxycontin, which did nothing for me. Gabapentin allowed me to crawl off my sofa, out of my painful fetal position, into a normal life. I am forever grateful for this medication.
I consider myself an extremely lucky person. I did illicit drugs in my late teens and throughout my 20's. I also drank a good deal through those years and in my 30's to almost 50. I never got "addicted". Then I started having back and leg problems and was placed on different pain medications. Over 55+ I've had more pain. Pain meds and Gabapentin but I can go for days without any of it. No shakes, no withdrawals of any kind and I've been on these meds for over a decade maybe more. The Gabapentin works wonders on my shooting pains.
I don't know Nancy sounds to me like you're addicted. We can all go a "few" days without and be ok. No judgement, I'm on methadone myself and gabapentin. Plenty of times I've gone a few days and recently without my methadone and I was fine....for a few days and I have my gabapentin which helps with withdrawals. Take it from an addict if you went cold turkey off that shit especially the pain meds, you will have withdrawals. Be careful before you give false info or brag. Karma is a problem.
When I started this med it wasn’t for my diabetes but for sciatica. It messed with my memory and I feel that even though I weaned myself off of it 6 yrs ago I don’t think I will be ever be back to normal.
Started out many years ago with severe restless leg syndrome and then 6 years ago feel and had a serious lumbar injury which required surgery through my stomach and this medication has helped me more than all the other medications I take for chronic pain.
I was doing fine on prescription pain medications. Was very much monitored and had regular labs & doctor visits . About 8 years ago, all the sudden my doctor told me I had to go off and weined me. Since then, my quality if life has gone downhill due to chronic pain from fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. He wanted to put me on lyricia and or gabapenton. I had o refuse as I researched and watched many videos of the side effects and said "no" to them. Many side effects are the same as my fibromyalgia symptoms. It made no sense to me. Why would I risk it?!
This was given to me after my ankle surgery for a fracture. It was great for the nerve twitching while healing. 300 mgs 1x per day before bedtime. It helped me sleep and calm down for healing. After a few months I didn’t like the brain fuzzies so I stopped taking it cold turkey. That made me super anxious so I got back on it. Then I saw the doc and she said I had to be weaned off it slowly. So they got me down to 100 msg 2x/day then 100z it was a process over several weeks. Worked like a charm. DONT GO OFF IT COLD TURKEY.
I took it for anxiety. Upon increasing my dosage I developed double vision and vertigo, not related to the inner ear. The first few times ended me up in the ER. My doctors did not related this to this medicine. For 2 years, I experienced debilitating vertigo, not every day but 3 to 4 times a week. I couldn't even see to drive, I walked unsteadily. I had to use a can. I finally realized it was this medication confirmed by the pharmacist. After slowly coming off of this medicine, my vertical attacks are not nearly as often. I get vertical when I get anxiety still because it is anxiety related and that's the only time I get it but it's not to the frequencyor severity that I got it before. So this medicine definitely made it worse. I wish it would completely go away but now I could live with it. I take meclizine to deal with the symptoms and it takes about an hour or two to start working.
Warning!!...I GOT ADICTED TO Gabapentin and I almost died. Doctors who prescribe this type of garbage should be thrown in jail!!… You get hook on this, and you will so much regret it!!...
I took gabapentin for over 2 years. It affected my brain, memory and thinking process. It doesn’t affect all people in the same way. It’s been 5 years since I stopped taking it. I have memory difficulty and fearing I have dementia. As the doctor said, if you are taking gabapentin, you have epilepsy. If you don’t have epilepsy, you are being prescribed off-label. The research for gabapentin was for epileptics.
I've been assured by several doctors that Gabapentin is not just for epilepsy. I get shooting pains and take the gabapentin for that and it helps. I have even researched it and it's not just for epilepsy.
I've been taking it for years and just now thinking about the side effects more closely. I have been in a battle with Lyme Disease for decades so I've just been thinking the side effects were just Lyme but now I'm looking more closely into it. My gosh have I been taking something possibly making my battle worse? Yes. My neurologist does not like gabapentin and doesn't want me on it but prescribed it bc an ER doc put me on it for breakthrough seizures. In another video I watched here is, "A Tale of Two drugs" I think the name is, about Cannabis and gabapentin, by Dr Ian Mitchell. It opened my eyes a bit to the drug company and how is pushed. We all know that cannabis is safe but is drugs that are not being tested very well? Who knows! Cannabis is scriptural and God-made. Man-made things have issues. People think that cannabis is weed. Ugh! Weed is a cannabis but people categorize and think all of it as illegal. Craziness! Help us Lord!
I have Dermatomyositis and Gabapentin is what helps me and have been taking it for 8 years with methotrexate. Helps with my severe arthritis/pain and restless legs. Great Video!!
Here's my experience: I was introduced to Neurontin several years back when my mom took it for diabetic neuropathy of the feet, however, one 300mg dose would knock her completely out for hours so she quit taking it and let me try it (yes, I know, I know, but I was desperate for pain relief). I have had spondylosis/stenosis/psoriatic arthritis for many years. I've had one fusion surgery already and always in severe pain, still in slow process of finding pain relief. So here's what it does to ME: one 300mg capsule HYPES me up for about 6 hours or so! I ONLY take one dose when I need to be on my feet for several hours. I used to work part time and took one before work to get through the shift on my feet. I call it my HAPPY PILLS... it also makes me talk a lot, be more cheerful and overall less depressed (I have suffered from depression for many years too) It simply makes me less self conscious and that is a huge deal! I haven't worked since the pandemic, so I haven't taken it much the past few months, but I do take one when I want to get up and do yard work or clean house/etc. But, for everyone else I know that takes it, it makes them drowsy. Downside: I get clumsy on it. When it starts to wear off, I can get dizzy, so I have to careful. I also can't sleep until it wears off. So, again, I only take it when it is needed. I also have a very high tolerance to all medication, so if I take it every day for a few days in a row, it stops working. This happens with almost every medication I take. Oh, and I also give it to my cats on the rare occasion when they get stressed from vet trips/pain. It works WONDERS on cats *with correct supervision* :) So, there's my weird experience. Thank you for sharing this information :)
And just to be clear, my main doctor prescribed it before, now it is being prescribed by my psychiatrist, as it is now being used to help battle my depression more than it is being used for the nerve damage from spinal compression... :)
@@TinaLynn thnx 4 sharing. Low doses like 300mg will give you pep 4sure. At higher doses for me anyway....(I take 1800-2400mg at once) with my buprenorphine will kill ALL my nerve pain and does help me sleep at night.
The pain clinic I went to had me try this for CMT2C disease. I ended up having severe reaction to the medication, and had to stop. They wanted to try a smaller dose, but told them no way. Be extremely careful and aware of the side effects and allergic reactions. If you are not comfortable taking this speak up, even if your voice shakes. It's your body, not theirs. There are other treatments out there. If it works for you great. If not, don't give up.
I was just at the Veterans hospital and was seen by the Reumatology Doctor. I thank you for informing us about the addiction aspect of gabapentin.I instinctively knew there is an addiction aspect of the medication. Two different doctors told me it is not. I have syatic nerve pain and take 600mg. before I go to bed. It's one third of the daily dose prescribed to me. And it's been almost a miracle.
Marleen, my 49 year old daughter takes it for her MS also. She's had MS for 26 years now. This past year she had a stroke and kidney failure. She was also having hallucinations. She has 5 different doctors. Neuro., GP, Uro., Stroke specialist and one other. I am so concerned about all the meds she takes. Her tremors have lessened but all the drugs are overwhelming to me. She has much anxiety and depression besides. I feel you don't know who's right or who to trust. I fear for her every day. She has managed to get her leg and foot working but is going to begin physical therapy soon. She fights to make life normal. She has been denied 3xs for disability . I recently obtained a new attorney for her. It's a shame people get help that don't end it and some that really need it dont. This med saved my quality of life with almost no side effects. It also improved my mood and anxiety. I was in agony from nerve serious nerve pain due to a major deterioration in a back injury that literally was ruining my life at 48. I have no regrets other than I need any medication at all. Gabapentin gave me bad side effects. Meds act differently with different people. There are no silver bullets.
I had sciatica really bad for a while. The pain was excruciating and constant. Went to the ER twice asking for a strong pain reliever but they refused to give it to me because of all the lawsuits going on. One of the ER doctors prescribed Gabapentin and within two days I started to feel some relief. My sciatica went away after about two weeks and I quit taking the Gabapentin and have not had another sciatica flareup since. Gabapentin may not be for everyone, but it really helped me.
I have MS also. Without Gabapentin I would be in severe pain, since no Drs. Believe in pain medication anymore!!! This drug saves me from the severe nerve pain! I’ve been on it since I was 20, and now I’m 64! This is a lifesaver for me😀
It is a prescribing doctor's responsibilty to inform the patient for whom he/she is prescribing a medication of any and all side effects. Lazy doctors and poor doctors will fail in this regard. Remember, it is the patient's responsibility to protect their own life, more so than any doctor! One of my healthcare degrees is in pharmacy. I've lost count of how many patients for whom I've filled a prescription have asked me for the possible major side effects. After doing so, they tell me that I'm smarter than their doctor, for which I can honestly say nothing. Nonetheless, any patient with a doctor prescribing medications, especially those that also cross the blood brain barrier with very likely psychoactive side effects, should first research a better doctor and replace the bad existing doctor as soon as possible, for the bad doc poses a very likely threat to not just the patient's well being but more so to their life. - a former retail and hospital pharmacist of 30 years practice. @@danielfronc4304 You should already know, then, that Dr's and pharmacists should be working together for the health of their patients. Not sure about other states, but here pharmacists go to school for 6 years. You guys study everything about those drugs during those years. You know the chemical makeup and the interactions, side affects better than a doctor because that is your field of study. A family dr will know the basics of heart disease, but a cardiologist will know all the intricate details because that's literally where he has focused his study. You guys should be counseling patients on side affects without prompting because that's your area of expertise. Especially if it's a new drug for the patient.
I was reading into this for daily migraine sufferers. I saw many reviews of people saying they suffered daily migraines for decades until they tried Gabapentin and this is the only thing that helps them. I'm going to try it. Wish me luck
Before I even watch this video I’m just going to say that I was on Neurontin and then later Lyrica and they both work really well for nerve pain. I have a weak connective tissue disorder, and I’m constantly dislocating my joints, both large and small. It definitely helps with that. Lyrica is better for that than Neurontin, in my opinion. The downside for me has been that I gained weight, I have a bloated face, bloated hands and bloated feet. The worst thing of all is that it causes a chemical dependency and it also acts as a chemical lobotomy. I wasn’t myself, couldn’t find the words I was looking for, and couldn’t hold a conversation to save my life. It’s worth it to take it for a while to alleviate the symptoms and the biggest surprise for me was that when I’d finally had enough of the annoying side effects, and tapered off, now I know longer have those nerve pains. Somehow my body had mended itself in those areas. But with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, I’m likely to have new nerve pain elsewhere at which time I’ll begin that medication cycle all over again. I absolutely can see how this could be abused and I don’t like taking abusable substances.
Not sure of all the details but have you ever listen to Mikaila Peterson podcast.? I vaguely recall her mentioning some extreme health issues with her joints and needing numerous surgeries. She eventually discovered an extreme diet that helped her and she appears to be a new person. Maybe just look into it. Its probably 1-2 yrs ago I remember the talks .
All medicine can cause a dependence. It depends on how long you use it. It would be better if drs would treat the root of the problem instead of the cycle of treating the symptoms which all meds cause side effects which creates more meds. I’ve watched this happening for decades. I pray for people who are suffering with no relief in sight but lifelong meds. I’ve lost family from that, body couldn’t handle all the meds. It broke.
Just watched this again, now I only take one at bed time. I’m ready to stop all together now! I’ve come to realize I’ve been totally fogged up in my head! The fog is leaving, and I can hardly believe how screwed up I was! I still have a way to go, but sooo much better, thank you so much for this video❤️
Thank you Doc. I have 100% service-connected PTSD due to serving in Baghdad (U.S. Army) and Type-2 Diabetes and was prescribed Gabapentin for my diabetes and foot pain. The rumor mill was going around my friends and family thinking Gabapentin was a psych medication for my PTSD, but as of right now it just makes me a little sleepy, nothing else. So now I got the right answer from a professional, because the doctors at the V.A. will tend to lie to me at some certain medical issues regarding my health. I got off the cocktail of psych meds V.A. prescribed me because that was just making it worse on my mentality, now I constantly have permanent shakes and unable to comprehend to what people are telling me...thanks V.A. !
I do not think the VA lies so much as has a party line they are required to read from a script. Like when I needed to gain weight and they told me the VA does not approve of steroids because they might make you feel good but otherwise have no efficacy. That is the official position and it is absurd. But the VA requires them to repeat it. On the other hand I was a nurse for about a dozen years and a medic in the service, I know a line of bullshit when I hear it at the VA. So I just ignore them and buy what I need off the net, sure it would be safer and cheaper to get it from them, but they have political position that take priority over your health or mine, so hate to do it, but I just go behind their back if I need something.
@@markwalker3499 that sounds like the best idea when it comes to buying off the net and agree on that. Just be careful, I've been watching a lot of Fentanyl laced pills on the news lately including laced Halloween candy. I just recently changed VA doctors because mine kept telling me he can't do anything to help me because of my type-2 diabetes and I'm not watching what I eat, so therefore he pretty much ignores me, but I guess I'm ignoring him too. Mentally, I've gotten worse since the cocktail of psych meds I've been given through the years, now my comprehension to try to understand anything is out the door. I now have to ask a person twice what he or she said to me and to slow down when speaking to me, my mind is very slow now. If I went back in the Army and back to Baghdad I'd be killed instantly or accidentally kill one of my battle buddies due to my comprehension. Even when writing this, I have to re-read this several times in order to remember what I wrote. But the craziest thing that always triggers my memory has no sense or meaning....I can remember classic game show theme songs growing up as a kid, but I can't remember what happened 5 minutes ago. Nothing makes sense anymore! I appreciate your comment my friend and I wish you lots of luck.
It only reduced my neuropathy marginally, made me dizzy, foggy headed, sleepy (yet I couldn't sleep because of neuropathy), caused blurry vision, serious weight gain and memory problems, and gave me raging tinnitus. I finally stopped taking it and started a quality, 3rd party tested full-spectrum CBD oil. It took a while, but eventually relieved the neuropathy except with certain weather conditions or when I am on my feet a lot more than usual.
@@sandratuttle i gained a little more than that. And I don't know about your doctor, but mine didn't mention any potential side effects when he prescribed the med.
@@djondjon Mine did not mention any side effects and I was so desperate I did not think to ask. My husband was with me and he did not think to either. My pharmacist is usually pretty good at that did not either or maybe I had associate that day who did not know me. Anyway, I really did not know which med was doing it since I was on so many. By that time I was so loopy from it that I did not realize. It was only after I got off of it that I put it all together.
I'm a diabetic and have neuropathy in my feet and hands. I was subscribe nurroton and didn't due well on it at all. To many sideafects although it help me with all the pain. Today. I use to take pains pills that I could tolerate my pain but doctors stop writing scripts out for pain meds and here I am suffering with pain every day where the pain is so overwhelming. I just try to live every day with my pain.this is so sad that I can't enjoy everyday life anymore.
I hated the way I felt while taking it. I could not think straight and my short term memory was awful. I felt nervous and buzzed. Things improved after I stopped it.
I didn't hear any mention of weight gain as a side effect. I've been in and off gabapentin several times and each time I start taking it, within 2 weeks I will have gained 15-20 pounds (no exaggerating). Thankfully I've been able to lose it almost as quickly as I gained it. There just wasn't enough benefit, FOR ME, to continue taking it. Good luck to those of you that are taking it!! God bless all of you that are living in pain daily, as well as everyone else!
Yes. I experienced the weight gain as well. But after the 3rd month it burned off and I was able to get back to my original weight. But it can be disheartening. So for those that the medication is working good in your body. Keep it going. I would rather gain 15+ lbs knowing that this excruciating pain in my body is being medicated. Good luck to you all. Pain is a bear!!!
You got that right I gained over 75lbs. Because I was taking so many. 9 a day. Doing this I started to get high doses in my blood. Had to go back & forth on how many a day. I thank the Lord every day for the brain surgery. It helped over 100 o/o.
Been using it for sciatic pain caused by a herniated disc. Taking 300mg, every 8 hours for over 7 month has made a huge difference in reducing the burning sensation in my leg. The only side effect I’ve noticed is dry mouth but that went away after the first few months of being on the drug.
I have been fighting back issues with leg nerve pains (unable to walk at times without opiates). I have CKD probably most due to the various pain and anti inflammatory medications I used to take for at least two decades, up until about five years ago. Pain Clinic started me on Gabapentin which made a very big difference to my life. Gave up the daily codeine, except for serious attacks, without any withdrawal symptoms. I still have codeine scripts but rarely ever take them. Had three operations in 2017, for which I had to persevere with pushing the surgeon for (disectomies and laminectomy), last of which finally made a big difference. Neurosurgeon said he won’t do any more operations, so I try to be careful not to aggravate the situation further. Tried all the other alternatives, including CT guided needles, all to no avail. I reduced, over time slowly (essential), the Gabapentin from 12 (100mg) every 24 hours to only 3 daily. Operations have made a big difference but I still get some nerve pains which I manage with only 3 (100mg) capsules now. Stopped the evening restless legs problem as well. Found taking 1 (100mg) in the mornings and 2 in the evening is the minimum to keep the nerve pains in check. I can leave the house and go shopping, walking most days now. I have tried reducing the 300mg daily but find the pains start to return. I don’t want to take more to eliminate the pains completely, as recommended by the Pain Clinic and neurosurgeon, as milder pains remind me not to overdo things. I still have some limitations, and avoid things like leaning over or sitting down too much, as certain things do aggravate the situation. It all comes down to quality of life issue; if I don’t take them I am housebound. I should take more exercise though. Pain Clinic still says I should be taking 12 (up to 15) 100mg Gabapentin daily, and are not so happy with me reducing the number I take. Would suggest trying to cut back one tablet daily for a week, and assessing if that made any real difference, and if no difference discerned try cutting back another, but just one tablet daily for a week. Gabapentin can cause weight gain, but by cutting back alone I managed to lose quite a bit of that medically induced weight. If you recognise the pains are returning then you can find the level you need to live comfortably, and have some control. I have heard a lot of negative comments about Gabapentin but they have simply made a very big difference to my life. Good luck.
@@Teresa-Anne I did not. In the past month I had a 2nd microdiscectomy which went much better than my first. A few weeks back I was finally able to entirely stop Gabapentin….and then I noticed that the ongoing indegestion that I’ve been having for the past year or so also stopped…. So appears for me… cotton mouth and indegestion were the only two noticeable side effects. Edit: I should also mention that I did have some withdrawal issues. After being on gabapentin for 27 months, once I stopped I had some dizzy spells, I was confused, almost passed out a couple of times and my sleep patterns were totally messed up. Withdrawal lasted about 4 days for me. In the end, I don’t regret taking gabapentin, it worked wonders for my nerve pain.
Same here , my neighbor was on this for two years for MS , no problems, helped her immensely . I was on it for 3 days and I felt crazy too , I was really bad , couldn’t get out of bed , seeing things , I couldn’t stand it . As with everything , everybody’s body is different .

My husband was given Gabapentin for essential tremor. The side effect was double vision which happened while he was driving. It was on his list of medication allergies. However, a year later while in the hospital he had neuropathy and the doctor ordered it and gave it to him anyway. He had prednisone induced diabetes at the time. When I spoke to the doctor he said, "he seems to be fine here". After we got home the double vision began again and I threw out the medication. He will never take it again, ever.
Greetings from South Carolina! Thanks for this post. I was prescribed gabapentin a few days ago and have only taken 3 capsules. My doctor prescribed it for essential tremors also. Kinda scared to continue taking it because of the possibility of having some of the side effects.

I just had cancer surgery and removed both breast and reconstruction at the same time. I find that Gabapentin has helped very much with the post operative pain. I was also prescribed Hydromorphone and Celebrex as well. But I try not to take the Hydromorphone and use Gabapentin and Celebrex primarily to manage pain.
I used it for nerve pain in my neck, prescribed during an Emergency visit. My family doctor switched me to Pregamblin because you take it less often. I used it for 3 months and did not notice any side effects. Both meds worked to numb the severe pain.

Vitamins are THE MOST OVER LOOKED & IMPORTANT way to fight off ALOT of what prescription meds are given for. I get my blood work done every 6 months that is a complete metabolic work up to try & stay ahead of any other medical problems. I may be fighting a neurological disease but I try stay as healthy as I possibly can to make it easier on myself. I HATE taking all of these DAMN medications & dealing w/side effects but I also know they're necessary. I wish you & ALL the GOOD people in this world🌎 have a lifetime of happiness😊, love💗, laughter😂 & AMAZING health !! Much love 💞!!
Going through the same issue. I'm glad you your symptoms controlled. Gabapentin made me fall all over the place. I wish I could tolerate it. My toes remain cold and numb all the time
My toe problem is related to a back problem. It took a year for doctors to finally believe me and then only due to a physical therapist who noticed that certain positions for back exercises made my toes move even when I couldn’t see or feel it…
For me this is a miracle drug...makes me feel fine and normal..have been taking said medication for years due to my back pain and ankylosing spondilitis..300mg 1x a day
This is a miracle medication for me as well. I was in excruciating pain. Sciatica pain. I cried a lot because it hurt so bad! Nothing g helped. Not diet or exercise or tylenol.
I’ve been taking it for 3 years 1200 mg x 3 times per day. I’ve had 5 back surgeries, 2 fusions. Terrible nerve pain legs and feet. Thank God for this medication.
This medicine is the only thing that prevents my excruciatingly painful spasms I would get on my legs. I only need one 75mg capsule at night that lasts all day. On the other hand ,if you chose to stop suddenly you will feel like you are disconnected with painful everything...
I've been on gabapentin for about 15 years for nerve pain because of prolapse disc, and it's been great for me , it does make you feel foggy to start with but now I just feel normal
I’ve been on it for a few years and I don’t really notice anything different. Maybe a little forgetful but I was like that before.... I think. Hahahahaha
I I was given it starting in 2013 for anxiety disorder and just stopped it and and when you say you feel normal just try to go off of it you will feel anything but normal because you’ve been on it a long time like me actually twice as long be careful I ended up in the hospital for three days having neurology test for the shakes MRI CT scan EEGEKG hadn’t been in the hospital overnight since I had appendicitis in six grade I went from 3600 to 600 in three days I thought I had Covid and was going to dieHives rash fatigue muscle pain chills sweats hot flashes by the grace of God I found this video and it’s weird because I wasn’t looking for it I thought it was the Cymbalta that I was withdrawing from that was causing all the problems because my husband died in September 2019 and I got depressed
Gapapentin has literally made my life liveable, I had permanent nerve damage to the SI joking and multiple herniated discs from a bad car accident several years ago. I had be like someone else here safely on pains meds for years , but when the nerve pain started to become unbearable I asked for something to else , once I started using gabapentin my legs finally statutes to settle down and allowed me to rest more at night, helps the si nerve as well. I also use it for severe Fibromyalgia which combines with the other issues can be unbearable but Gabapentin helps
My eyesight was deteriorating rapidly when I was on this. Was told someone went near blind on this medication too. Brain fog was debilitating too. I stopped taking this and haven't looked back. Eye sight has improved too.

Gabapentin and Tramadol for years and it helps with her back pain. I was on it for a short time due to lower back pain but I no longer take them. Thank you
Excellent, informative presentation. However, I have an issue with using the word “addiction” when “dependence” is the correct word (I’m not saying that all instances of the word addiction in this video were wrong). I’ve been on gabapentin 3 times a day for over 3 years. I can’t just stop it abruptly or I get muscle tremors, weakness, the feeling of a spark of electricity whenever the skin on my face is touched, etc. I have become physically dependent on it, and as you said, you have to be careful and taper down as per your doctor’s recommendations. However, I do not abuse it, and I am not ADDICTED to it.
For sure, addiction and dependence are very different. What you are describing is dependence and this happens with many medications. All that requires is a slow decrease over time to get off of. Addiction refers to a pattern of abuse which unfortunately although not overly common is still a risk with this medication. Thanks for your input!
@@ErikRichardsonDO so I take gabapentin for neuropathy in my feet and legs/ 600 mg 3 times a day. If I miss a dose I start getting the pain with in a hour. Night is the worst if I should forget. Do you call thus a dependence ??
I think the word depend is not correct in most cases. It is a need drug for me as I have neuropathy in my feet and legs. I have not seen any other options out there for it to try to get off of it if without going back to being in pain and not being able to walk.
@@judymcgowan2881 Actually dependency when dealing medication mean that if the drug is stopped suddenly you have side effect that are not related to what the original problem was. Foe example you can take Mortin daily for months and then stop and you will have no side effects from the drug. Now your pain may get worse because the drug is not in your body and the pain problem is still there but you are not having other issues like stomach upset, headache vomiting, brain fog ectt. However, with this drug you take for months ( and this depends on the person, dose and how long it) will develop side effect if stopped suddenly and must be tapered. Basically you body needs that drug to advoid the side effects so you are considered dependant on the medication according to the definition of how the word is used towards medications. The problem is doctors put you are the medication then dump you for a false positive drug test and then you are sicker then a dog.
I swear to GOD! WTF is wrong with people?!?!?!?
I agree with you 100 per cent. If they could only spend 24 hours in our shoes it would be a whole new ballgame.
I wrote to my legislators and governor in order to get laws changed. Only got one response. They just don't care about our pain

I’m sorry you had to go through that. It’s so hard when you change medicines you don’t know what’s going to happen.
I just started this med for anxiety, depression, and bipolar. It's been about 3 weeks and I've started to have angry outbursts over the past few days. Is this how it started for you or was yours more sudden? I've got a visit with my doctor next week so I'll be letting them know. Thanks for any insight.
How did you get off it
VA give me hydrocodone for years.
My back has deteriorated over years,
They said I couldn't get addicted, ha.

Good for your doctor ...
I fully understand .I have the same problem.. Gabapentin is the only medication that's helped.
Does the pain come back if we stop taking them?
This is good in all aspects and of course you were taking in scheduled and recommended dose , anyhow in my practice as a doctor in diabetic neuropathy aur in any other unremarkable restless neuropathic, this is a safe drug...(Dr.M.Ashraf..M.D.) New Delhi India
I had to stop it put me in a psychosis I’ll stick to Tylenol 3
Thank god

I works great for me too.

Took this many years ago for chronic migraines and seizures. It turned my life upside down and started me on my path to holistic healing. I will never put this in my body again.
I agree diet and exercise and natural remedies this pill had me in boom boom land
I couldn't even use a corded phone on it. Felt drunk. I hated it. A couple of days was enough to say no more.
What do you find in holistic healing for chronic pain?
AMEN!! Me too!
One of the unmentioned dangers of this drug is memory loss. I took it for fibromyalgia, but after being zoned out I stopped taking it. It works for pain, but I’m not willing to trade my memory or mental acuity for it.
So glad I read this I had severe memories recall my family said I was bizzaro so I went off it alot better now.
It only helped with my nerve related pain, and did impact my memory. I found a study stating it kills brain synapses After I had quit taking it. :/
Also had an ex become addicted to it. It's garbage like many other Rx.
Well shit, I’m screwed lol cause I’ve got an AWFUL memory! Mostly short term that I noticed started in my mid 20s, I’m 30 now and turning 31 soon.

I had to start using a wheelchair a year ago because of pain while walking and balance issues. My legs are tingling bags of lead. I finally couldn't take the pain and they started me on Gabapentin about 4 years ago. Gabapentin makes the painful tingling somewhat bearable. My question is: if you've had neuropathy for 10 years, how the heck can you be riding a bicycle?

An excellent commentary.
I was prescribed 25mg Pregabalin three times a day for severe post Shingles pain. This was in conjunction with
37.5 mg Tramazac Co two tablets three times a day.
In my experience after taking pregabalin 75 mg every night for 3 months, at first 3 days it was good I can sleep easily without worrying about my painful CTS, I was advised to continue the medication.

How many mg a day did you take, and for how long?
Started out many years ago with severe restless leg syndrome and then 6 years ago feel and had a serious lumbar injury which required surgery through my stomach and this medication has helped me more than all the other medications I take for chronic pain.
Funny thing is at higher doses Gabapentin caused me to have restless legs at night, that was one of my biggest complaints about it.

What are you taking for anxiety now? And does it work? What was your dosage while you were on gabapentin? I am currently on it for anxiety as well.

In another video I watched here is, "A Tale of Two drugs" I think the name is, about
Cannabis and gabapentin, by
Dr Ian Mitchell.
How many were you taking for those 2 years?
I have Dermatomyositis and Gabapentin is what helps me and have been taking it for 8 years with methotrexate. Helps with my severe arthritis/pain and restless legs. Great Video!!
I can't believe how many medications I used to use. Thank you God for showing me more .God is love.
It works WONDERS on cats *with correct supervision* :)
So, there's my weird experience.
Thank you for sharing this information :)
And just to be clear, my main doctor prescribed it before, now it is being prescribed by my psychiatrist, as it is now being used to help battle my depression more than it is being used for the nerve damage from spinal compression... :)

Incredible! I’m glad that you are pain free from your old nerve symptoms. How long did you take lyrica before starting to taper?
@@BrodeyDoverosx I took it for a year and then tapered off. It really allowed the areas to mend while being free of pain in the process.
It broke.
I've on gab since it came out. My pain manager used me as a guinea pig. It helps alot...
Ask the VA for a second opinion from an outside source they might give it to you don't buy s*** off the street bro please don't
Thank you for your service to our country
Thank you for serving Sir
Im doing ok with Gabapentin, its given me some quality of life while living with Diabetic Neuropathy (Horrible), thank you Doctor.
@Debbie Meyers wish I was that lucky.
It makes me unable to walk
Ali, thank you, so very thoughtful and kind of you. 💗🦋🌺
Been using it for sciatic pain caused by a herniated disc. Taking 300mg, every 8 hours for over 7 month has made a huge difference in reducing the burning sensation in my leg. The only side effect I’ve noticed is dry mouth but that went away after the first few months of being on the drug.
This sounds like what I have.
Good luck.
I used it for the same reason. Now have a nervo spinal stimulator.
Did any of you gain weight with gabapentin??
This medication made me feel crazy and not myself but know people who absolutely are better for taking it. Its not for everyone.
