I’ve got nothing but respect for a movie that has entertained people and that will only steep deliciously over time. I have to believe Harold Ramis would be fine with this. They did not make him do anything outside of what his character might do, especially with time and experience and the desire to make the world safe for his daughter and granddaughter. Sacrifice, what a lovely note in the Ghostbusters continuity. McKenna, she’s a literal gem. It was a bit of a soft reboot, but the underlying themes are legit. I am satisfied.
I still get giddy when I see my town in Stargirl, The Footloose remake, Zombieland and more. Prob Beverly Street soon since they are filming in the studio up the road.
For being a film basically is referencing the original, it was done well. To me it didnt feel forced at all. The reunion towards the end gave me chills. Even after it got spoiled for me on tik tok. Also loved the baskin robins reference lol

While it was definitely a nostalgia trip, having ghost traps, the Echo 1, and the proton back packs aren't really call backs. They're staples of the franchise and are pretty much required within the series.
@@Rocket1377 The Mandalorian almost got through an entire season without showing a single lightsaber, nobody critiques the earlier episodes for not being Star Wars.
@@romxxii never watched it, but I'd think it's doable in some cases for sure. With how expanded of a universe Star Wars has, it wouldn't be difficult. But busting ghosts require ghost traps and the proton backpacks currently until thi come up with something else. Hopefully in future movies they attach ghost traps to drones instead of RC cars. That would be a nice step up.
The stuff with Egon at the end punches me in the feels. I know it's nostalgia bait, but I enjoyed watching it, particularly with my kids who love ghosts.
Yeah, not sure what they're going on about. Their use of him felt far more tasteful than anything in Rogue One, and you could tell it was coming from a place of genuine emotion. I didn't hate 2016 (until I saw it), and I think the rerun of a villain was disappointing when compared to the cartoon's better episodes, but this was another case of "Honest Trailers" having an axe to grind.
only for stabelishing shots of the exterior house, they rebuilt the whole house on a sound stage to film the night scenes (that were the majority of the ones containing the house) so that child actors could film them because of child laws. So the honks are problably there in the exterior shots. The mine was shot elsewhere, and the inside of mine its all inside the studio.

I wouldn't go that far. It's four movies: one great (84), one decent (Afterlife) and two terrible (2/2016). And yes, 2 is bad. Get the nostalgia out of the way.
Honestly, I haven't heard anyone at all being mad at this film. It's actually rather refreshing that most people enjoyed it, or at least though it was ok.
I didn't mind the movie, but I did feel disappointed. The film was a rehash of the first one instead of exploring new ideas and using ideas from RGB. And there wasn't much chaos with ghosts chasing people around. And there was no Kylie Griffin!

Ever been inside a failing Starbucks?? Makes an old dusty firehouse quaint by comparison: fossilized egg quiche things on a plate; baristas attempting to pull shots before they can legally drink shots; 16 week old soy latte residue starting to achieve consciousness.

For me, this was a really perfectly timed comeback, my dad and I watched and quoted Ghostbusters constantly when I was growing up. And we even talked about going to see this when it came out, he died last year and I just got brave enough to watch this. Needless to say the end absolutely destroyed me. I wish I could see my dad one more time . So while everyone else thought this movie was just ok, I think il always have a soft spot for it.
I don’t go to the movie theater all that often. It isn’t worth it to me. I usually wait five to ten years to see something on DVD. This was the only movie I saw in theaters that year. I think it was the first one I saw in theaters in about three years. Absolutely worth it. Watched the first one with my mom a few days prior since somehow she’d never seen it and then we watched this one together. So good.
My favorite part of the movie was when the kids were watching a version of "Child's Play" that has clips from the middle of the film and near the end play within a few seconds of each other. And sound effects from both that ends clashing with one another.
I don't care that it was pre-packaged nostalgia, it did a great job of honouring the past while setting up the future, which is what it was meant to do. And the problem with 2016 wasn't their gender, it was that it had literally none of the elements that made the original movies great: the dry, sardonic comedy played straight, the elements of genuine horror/fright, zero ties to the original movies/stories, wasted cameos where they don't even play their characters (and were forced to be there), etc. I really wish people would stop perpetuating the idea that the hate for 2016 is purely gender based. Afterlife was great and McKenna Grace was one of the best parts of it.
It would probably help if there weren't people who actually were pushing that Answer the Call was going to fail because having a all female team was "woke". We had conservative writers like Milo basically leading a charge to harass the staff of the film. The film wasn't bad it just needed a different director. People weren't expecting Bridesmaids like comedy in Ghostbusters.
I'm sure it was bad. But I really wish people would stop perpetuating the myth that any of the screaming, frothing hatred for it was based on anything other that sexism.
My hate for the 2016 one Is the constant chatter. They never shut up. Not even in dramatic scenes. Good way to portray non-cliche female characters by making them anoying parrots.
@@letmadora28 Agreed. It was loud, obnoxious, and just a lazy, shot-gun approach with low-rung humour that just got on my nerves. But nah, it must just be because I’m sexist, apparently. I really like the 2016 movie. In the UK, Channel 4 showed a different version on TV that made the plot a lot better and I have now realised this is the Blu-Ray version. I hate the fact people want to forget this happened -- at least the ladies are in the comicbook Universe.
I honestly don't understand the amount of hate this movie gets. For all the looking down the nose the internet does, this is still by and far the best sequel/reboot movie I've seen in probably two decades.
@@josh72456 Only if you didn't like the original. Which to be fair, the makers of GB16, the Disney SW sequel, and the upcoming Snow White obviously hate the originals, and it shows.
@treyhelms5282 The first one is iconic yes and better than the rest dated maybe but that's another discussion. Hollywood does seem to do films based on nostalgia not all but quite a lot. The Star Wars sequel trilogy well 7 is ok, 8 well flawed and 9 is certainly the weakest.
Had an amazing time with this movie and I'm only holding out for that BluRay to get the most extras out of it. RIP Ivan Reitman, who was the stand-in for Egon in this movie and the voice of both Slimer and Zuul in the original.
I… hadn’t heard about Ivan Reitman. That was a legit record scratch moment. I’m glad y’all made me chuckle because that was a gut punch. Also, gotta say… I love Sigourney Weaver but the way the lady said, “There is no mom, only Zuul,” was actually legitimately terrifying. Honestly, that’s a compliment to Sigourney Weaver since she made it creepy but still slightly comical, whereas the new movie on the whole is a tad more serious than I’d like. I enjoyed it, though.
There's a difference between "Fan service" and keeping things Canon. Certainly, they played up some fan service, but much was keeping to the universe it's in. I'd say it was fairly well layered fan service, seen MUCH worse in other franchises.
I loved this movie. While it wasn't perfect, it was a 10 times better than the 2016 movie. I have no doubt that a all female ghostbusters could work, but only with a good script and good actors. This movie had good actors and a fine script, but most importantly, it had heart, where 2016 only had fart jokes :/
The Ecto-1 being in the movie is not a 'reference.' Ghosts being in the movie is not a 'reference.' Ghostbusting equipment being in the movie is not a 'reference.' This is what a Ghostbusters movie is and must be. And Loki being in the Avengers is not a 'reference' to Thor. Joker being in Dark Knight is not a 'reference' to Batman 1989 or the old TV show. These are returning villains. That's it.
I actually really like the movie, which apparently put me in the minority according to the critics. It was really nice to see all of them suited up one last time, minus Harold Ramis (RIP man, your comic genius is missed). I wasn't perfect, but it was a great way to pass the torch on to a new generation of Ghostbusters 👻. I got teary eyed when they For Harold, it was a nice tribute to him.

Yes it had a lot of nostalgia references but there was a lot of heart put into and I really enjoyed the new characters and the ending was great!
Plus now unlike the idiocy of 2016 they can do proper handoffs to literally anyone since Winston reopened the old firehouse and looks to be trying to start up the ghostbusters again
@Ross Sapp It was predictable.
The segment for the 2 hours nostalgia is pure nostalgia. I can watch it non-stop.
The appearance of Egon at the end made me shed a tear or two, it really was a sweet moment (now I can only hear an epic voice saying "do we bust him or what" 🤣🤣🤣)
Ray certainly did bust something.
It certainly beat watching Mccarthy do that stupid wonton joke repeatedly:)
Honestly, it was a missed gag for Peter not to say "Alright, Egon, you know the rules. Get in the trap."

It was so great, to see Harold Ramis one last time. Ok, the movie might have it flaws, but still I had goosebumps the whole last 15 minutes of it. It was, what fans wanted and have been waiting for.

It was shamelessly pandering fan service, and it seems to have worked on fans.

While it was definitely a nostalgia trip, having ghost traps, the Echo 1, and the proton back packs aren't really call backs. They're staples of the franchise and are pretty much required within the series.

"Afterlife" was shot in Canada? Wow, props to the sound team, then. I didn't hear a single honk.
The sound team stayed up all night cleaning up the audio ... really outdid themselves.
only for stabelishing shots of the exterior house, they rebuilt the whole house on a sound stage to film the night scenes (that were the majority of the ones containing the house) so that child actors could film them because of child laws.

@@multiverse_media2023 I’ve debated on getting the game for years. I just recently bought Planet Coaster on Steam along with the Ghostbusters DLC.
And sound effects from both that ends clashing with one another.
child-playing with ghost confirm. a film that pits the new new ghostbusters vs chucky...

@@letmadora28 Agreed. It was loud, obnoxious, and just a lazy, shot-gun approach with low-rung humour that just got on my nerves. But nah, it must just be because I’m sexist, apparently.
