2016’s Ghostbusters reboot aimed to breathe new life into the classic franchise by introducing us to a brand new take on the concept, while still shoving as much nostalgia our way as it could. The movie bombed pretty hard at the box office and it seems unlikely that we'll see this version of the team again. The movie was kind of a mess and raises a ton of questions. Like… was there a script? Did Paul Feig just point a camera at Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones and let them come up with stuff? What even are the rules of this universe?

This was basically the PR strategy for the movie.
I hated the marketing for exactly that, it didn't matter that the original ensemble was all male so why should it matter that this one's all female. Marketing on that was foolish. The fact is it's just not a great movie :/ (personally I thought the movie was ok, about the average for that kind of movie and I agree with this vids criticisms.
Also I think the Director's Cut was noticeably better than the theatrical release)

What I've seen multiple places online is that it actually LOST seventy MILLION dollars.
Cost 300 million to make and made 250 million. Then you factor in advertising and toy marketing that didn't sell. So over all they lost more than 70 million...

Ha! You can guarantee that they spent way more than 20mil on advertising. They pushed that movie harder than Deadpool. The toy marketing was probably 20mil.
Kem Radovich budget was $144 million and it took in 229.1 million, to break even, a film would have to make double the budget which would be $288 million, which means they lost nearly $60 million(58.9 million) on that film.

One of the great things about the original was the tangible money troubles, like Ray having to mortgage his house so he could buy a crappy lemon for transport, and a rundown firehouse for an HQ..
The mundane stuff helped sell the fantastic elements.
These are great but very overlooked points. Those elements definitely added to the movie.

I liked how Dr. Venkman played by Bill Murray was really just a conman trying to bed female students. While practically electrocuting male students (even if they apparently were PSI - gifted).

I am here a year late, but I just want to give them props for two things; they were fair regarding the movie, and they didn't turn off comments like those cowards at Honest Trailers.

I never understood the point of gender swaps. It's like they're trying too hard to give the other gender exposure. If you want to give female actors exposure, just put them in an original film.

In original Ghostbusters, there wasn't so much a funny one. They were all funny in different ways. This contrasted effectively with realistic characters they'd interact with, like the pragmatic secretary, the stuffy hotel manager, the hard-nosed EPA rep, and the opportunistic mayor.
In the New Coke Ghostbusters, just about everyone is a caricature.
The Original Ghostbusters was set in the real world. Fakebusters was set in feigs delusional mind.
In the 2016 film, they weren't all the funny one. They were all the trying too hard to be funny one.

wait hold on 1 second... new coke before being released was tested relentlessly with trial groups & most, if not all, of the trial participants preferred it to original coke.. the reason it did terribly was because at the time, changing your recipe as a soda company was a *big* deal, & so pepsi went on a slander campaign saying "we're better than coke because we don't have to change our recipe"... in other words, likening 2016 ghostbusters to new coke is like saying at any point in it's production people aside from those paid for it preferred it to original ghostbusters, which isn't true

This movie was the dumpster fire that other dumpster fire parents warn their dumpster fire children about as a cautionary tale.

It would be funny, if hollywood actually learned from the mistakes this movie made but they didn't and movies of this kind still insult their fanbase and lobby accusations at the said fanbase for not watching the movie. Just look at Charlies Angels for the most recent example.

I watched it after seeing all the parody. Wish I hadn’t, even knowing the joke behind all these videos making fun of it.

It would have been better if it had been set in the future/present day and the ghostbusters was already an established service in a city plagued with evils. It didn't need to another origin story.
