    As an off-road motorcyclist and a gen6 6-speed Goldwing Tour owner(not for off-road 🤣) ...I will NEVER give up my clutch and shift lever, they are my connection to what the bike is doing and controlling it. Plus a real biggie for me.... riding is just more fun with a manual 👍

      We agree, thank you for these great comments. For us a DCT = a golf cart that clunks, needs recalibrating often and inexperienced riders fall down on at low speeds, on top of worse mpg’s and snotty short senior napoleon riders.

    The DCT is awesome fun. My son and rented two Goldwing’s to ride around south Florida and Everglades national park. One DCT and the other a 6 speed. We swapped bikes several times and I can say hands down we both preferred the DCT. Effortless blasts from the stoplight, the 6 speed was always left behind. Rested hands at stoplights on the DCT too. Way less aggravating coordination of gas, shifter, clutch , no needs for 1 million squeezes of a clutch lever for every ride, no crappy shifts, etc.
    Slow speed handling literally took seconds to figure out for both of us.
    DCT IS THE BEST.

    You will always get the owners of 6speeds say it's better than the DCT & owners of DCT's say better than the manual, buy what you like . Borrowed a manual for 2 weeks & loved it, but ended up getting a DCT tour , for my long distance riding, as for slow speed stuff , i put it in rain mode to slow the throttle response down , works like a charm 😁

    thanks for sharing.. I believe the DCT makes more sense for older riders who might want to focus more on enjoying the ride and scenery than the mechanics of riding.. we reach a certain age where arthritis sets in, reaction times are slower, patience is less, and we want less stress but still want to be on two wheels. That's what makes the honda goldwing a great option for more senior folks. Any younger, and they would probably still be riding a Harley! lol. I have been a Harley / Indian motorcycle rider most of my riding life but as I approach retirement, I may not want to deal with the constant shifting in stop and go traffic especially with arthritic hands. just not worth it. I am looking at the DCT for that very same reason.. otherwise I would keep my Harley.

    • @OnDownTheRoadProductions
      @OnDownTheRoadProductions  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Older riders drop DCT GOLDWINGs often at stops and during low speed maneuverability. The clutch on a 6 speed GOLDWING is butter smooth do not underestimate that detail. For us here at ODTRP we like the sense of control a manual clutch provides in turns, and the more true visceral experience of being one with the road and have more control of your fate. Thanks for your comments and being here on this platform.

    Love my Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT, 7 speed), and I would never go back. The ability to free up a hand and a foot for every shift on long touring rides is huge. Even adding an extra gear for highway straights is worth something and the paddle shifters are always available to drop down a gear in corners. I get it though, not everyone likes new technology.

    • @OnDownTheRoadProductions

      Great perspective, thank you for contributing here. Think about electric cars, not perfected and forced down our throats. Same can be said about the DCT GL1800. Believe it or not, we do not see freeing up your hand under excelleration as something very smart or safe. Experienced riders do wonderful with manuals. Ride safe, ODTRP

    • @esclass
      @esclass 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      An electric car it's nothing like a DCT. 20 years experienced rider here and I can definitely see the advantage and convenience of freeing up a hand on Long rides. Most people that ride a DCT love it and say they would never go back. To each his own... having an opinion about these things seems pointless. Having a preference makes sense. Ignorance and fear seem to be the motivating factor behind the opinions of these subject matters. I wonder if these people still rub two sticks together to start fire. Do they use a lighter? Do they prefer to manually roll down their windows? Do they drive stick shifts? Do they also hate paddle shifters on sports cars? Did they refuse to go from VHS to DVD? Live strong and Ride long. Peace.

    Rode the 6 speed before I bought my 2019 DCT. Have owned over 25 bikes. Both were great. The DCT is just different. I like the challenge of low.speed handling without the clutch friction zone. I am old but not afraid to try new things. In traffic or relaxed riding, not manual shifting is great. Going to manual mode in Sport is awesome fast

  • @petersymons9984

    Ok video but pretty lame reasons to reject DCT. Lighter, true but how much? A few Kg on such a heavy bike (Straw Clutching at best) - low cost, true but the Goldwing is an expensive bike... a few $$ less at purchase should be the decider. Oil change costs??? really...
    How about the positives of a DCT. No looking for neutral at the lights, no stalling when taking off or taking off in the wrong gear. Smoother crisp acceleration (no helmet bumping with the pillion when stepping through the gears with a bit of "vigor", faster acceleration (the DCT is quick with its gear changes) 7 gears instead of 6 so better to keep the bike in the power band and that will improve fuel economy, one less thing to do when ridding in traffic, no on again off again with the clutch as you creep forward in heavy traffic and getting a saw hand after long traffic jams .
    You can flick the DCT up and down through the gears manually with the paddles if you wish so it's almost like a clutch-less manual if you want to "play", and in terms of low-speed stability..... well...... maybe if your very new to riding or NOT used to DCT you may accidently blip the throttle accidently which can make it jerk a bit at low speed but that's something you learn not to do after a few hours.
    From my perspective - Never in a million years NEVER NEVER NEVER would i go back to manual gearbox after ridding DCT - just will never happen and i have ridden both bikes.
    To each their own and if you just like a manual bike like some like to drive a manual car then that's fine - but just admit that you prefer a manual gearbox cos you like to change gears and not rag out the auto box with such petty straw clutching reasons, and if you do want to give a review also highlight the advantages of DCT as well like i mentioned earlier and talk about stuff like the re-sale value hit you will get when you want to move the bike on, that is going to cost you a lot more than the purchase cost of DCT when you bought the bike.

    With a large engined luxury vehicle with good torque, you don't need a manual shifter. That's true for both bikes and cars. A manual Rolls Royce is pretty pointless, as would be an automatic Miata. As would be an auto Fireblade - that would be awful. But the Wing is a vast, luxury bike, built for crossing continents. I'd go full-fat Wing and get the DCT, every time ...

    I have 12,000 trouble free miles on my DCT Bagger and could not be happier. And to be honest I hated it the first few times I rode it and wondered if I had made an expensive mistake. But as it turns out the transmission suits my riding to a T and is very versatile. I can waft down country roads in 7th gear just above idle like a leaf in the wind and then hit the interstate in sport manual for the ride home at high speeds. On the highway in sport auto mode in cruise at 65 is a serene experience but when you hit the throttle it immediately downshifts to 6th and you're ready to roll. A flick of your thumb and you resume cruise and the DCT shifts back up through the gears. Don't get me wrong I still drive a manual car and ride two other manual bikes but there is a place for the DCT Wing in my stable.

    6 speed is tried and true. Most dct owners end up purchasing the extended warranty just because of the transmission alone. So that’s another $1000-$1500 on the price.

    Sorry but most of your points are just plain wrong. Manual is technically superior because it is cheaper? And lighter by how much? 2kg on a 365kg bike? And i don’t believe the better MPG. The only upside is low speed control, it takes time to trust the DCT at low speed, other than that, the DCT fits the new Gold like a glove, and is real fun in sport manual mode.

      I test rode a new Goldwing DCT tour at the dealership yesterday; mostly b/c the salesman encouraged me to experience what a DCT is like as I had never experienced it and criticized the idea of an automatic motorcycle. I was absolutely impressed and blown away at the performance, fit, finish & quality of this motorcycle. I’m no stranger to Honda motorcycles ….this was amazing. However, I still 100% prefer the motorcycle to be manual. The low speed maneuvering on the DCT was not enjoyable.

      Just because any sports bike is enhanced by a manual shifter doesnt mean that this is true of all bikes. Speedway bikes just have one gear, and I'd like to see you rock up to a Speedway even and tell those guys that they're driving a "fake" machine. It's not either / or. Some bikes suit auto. Many don't. Same as cars. Any vehicle that is big, heavy, and has lots of torque suits an auto, as revving the hell out of it is pointless. Any vehicle that is light, sporty, revs highly, and has less torque, needs ot be revved (you drive it on the power, not on the torque) and so benefits from a manual shifter. The Wing is a big comfy barge - auto suits it.
