Holy crap, this is the type of production that we need in late night talk shows right now. The camera work, the lights, the whole package was freaking amazing. Weird Al in his freaking prime.
Of course Kurt was able to laugh at himself. Have you ever seen their performance of Teen Spirit on Top of the Pops? It was twice as cartoonish as this Weird Al performance was.
Mihir Kocherlakota he always gets permission from the artist in question.. even though law says that he doesn't need ask. he just has respect for others, and i guess he enjoys making new lasting friends :)
I remember listening to Dr Demento and hearing Als work back in the 70's when I was a kid. I have been lucky to have this guy to turn to when I need a laugh. Would be great to hang out with and just relax and shoot the bull. Seems very down to earth.
Best part of this interview is that Arsenio asks him about the Hammer parody "I Can't Watch This" Which has a line in it that goes, "Or that guy with the real flat hair That goes 'Woof woof woof' and waves his fist in the air" referencing Arsenio. I wonder if Weird Al expected that to come up when Arsenio mentioned that song. Things that make you go hmmmmmm....
"Nevermind" came out in 1991, "Off The Deep End" came out in 1992. Who would you rather have your show? Something that everyone has already done, or something new? No one is going to recruit Nirvana to perform the original when they did that already last year. That's just how it works.
I remember that week because it was the summer and I didn't do anything. I saw some girl in a Taco Bell wearing a Nirvana shirt today and thought 'wow, that was a long time ago.'
Yeah kind of funny that when the subject of his MC Hammer parody "U Can't Watch This" comes up h doesn't mention - but surely knows - that Arsenio Hall is mentioned in it, and not complementary
Singing is for people who don't know how to play instruments. And for many genres, singing is for people for don't know how to write songs. Rock music is the only genre that I know of where the performer actually wrote the music they're playing (except of course for parodies like this one).
this was such a terrible interview. Arsenio was basically insulting Al's artstic talent and seriousness. I guess he doesn't undertand intellegent comedy.
Regarding Weird Al's comments on Rap. Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren once described Rap as black punk rock: Angry kids spewing their bile. But where with Punkrock the ability to play instruments was not important, with rap you didn't need to play instruments at all, a concept that McLaren found brilliant.
Steve Dakota I know they are, but they aren't just a back up band, they're like 85 percent of Weird Al! And Steve Jay doesn't look like Charles Manson, like i said, have some respect.
Diego McArthur backup band "A backing band or backup band is a musical ensemble that accompanies an artist at a live performance or on a recording. This can either be an established, long-standing group that has little or no change in membership, or it may be an ad hoc group assembled for a single show or a single recording."
This is pretty darn funny..Kurt Cobain liked this parody and was on the set when Al shot the video..
How do you know that? ._.
Both al and Kurt said it
Al tried to reuse as many original extras as possible in his video and used the same high school gym
Awesome thought it was funny when he said rock n roll was invented for kids who can’t sing and rap was invented for kids who can’t sing at all
The irony is that while making fun of the original song being hard to understand, Weird Al makes his song easy to understand to get the point across.
Haha the janitor from the video is just standing there on stage
Holy crap, this is the type of production that we need in late night talk shows right now. The camera work, the lights, the whole package was freaking amazing. Weird Al in his freaking prime.
Al is genius, and has hardly aged in 20 years. His humor is as relevant now as when he started.
Of course Kurt was able to laugh at himself. Have you ever seen their performance of Teen Spirit on Top of the Pops? It was twice as cartoonish as this Weird Al performance was.
I love nirvana, but this is pretty damn funny
At first I was really angry that he made the song, but discovered nirvana was cool with it so I was like Lol XD
Mihir Kocherlakota yeah, kurt actually like this more than the origins original
Mihir Kocherlakota he always gets permission from the artist in question.. even though law says that he doesn't need ask. he just has respect for others, and i guess he enjoys making new lasting friends :)
***** thnks for the info ^^
shouldnt be a but in that

weird al is always my favorite.... my most fave song from his is you dont love me anymore!!!
NO WAY...live! Thanks for the upload! This is awesome!
8:05 - 8:25! Right on! Right FUCKING on!
Rock n Roll was invented for kids who couldn't sing very well,
and then rap was invented for kids who couldn't sing at all!
So, this is what happened on the day I was born.
Talk about getting to the party after everything has already happened along time ago.
Talk about mangling a popular phrase.
***** So what? You was born in 92...do you want a cookie?
This and I took a big ol' shit!
I love Kurt for loving this, it demonstrate how much of humor sense he had
AMAZING. Thank you so much for this!

Behold - the awesomeness!

I always wondered who that guy was who went,
'Woof Woof Woof,
and waves his fist in the air.'

Wesley Snipes!
Thank you Hilarious Greatness!!! Please post the part, his next performance!! Thanks again!
Kurt loved you Al!
I had to do a double take when I saw him do the peace sign at the end, lol
love this dude
this interview is like a first date! ahahaha....great interview though!
The fact that Kurt endorsed it says a lot about his sense of humor, who can you laugh about if you can't laugh about yourself?
Rap is for kids that can't sing at all. What a wise man
☆
No shit. That's why it's called rap.
@Wartin 8:14 you idiot!!
Rap is crap 💩
I remember that week because it was the summer and I didn't do anything. I saw some girl in a Taco Bell wearing a Nirvana shirt today and thought 'wow, that was a long time ago.'
lol that dude this is a janitor for the show and was probably never to be on television
aside from being screamingly funny, this is also a kick-ass live performance
Yeah kind of funny that when the subject of his MC Hammer parody "U Can't Watch This" comes up h doesn't mention - but surely knows - that Arsenio Hall is mentioned in it, and not complementary
MichiganChet when?
Tom Schuszter it is in the song about the guy with the funny hair who goes woof woof woof and waves his hand in the air
@@MichiganChet yes

How ironic. You didn't even spell intelligent correctly. Didn't you notice that it's underlined in red when typing?
Its not word how would he see that?
Loved the Arsenio Hall show when I was younger, it's too bad they canceled it after he removed half of Gary Busey's brain.
+Saro Lucero cant believe there arent any black late night talk show hosts
Weird al is so cool haha
Wow....when I was 12 years old! Boy, I need a life....heehee

brilliant!
I wish he would make music videos to songs of his that he has never made videos for before.. And if he dosen, I hope they are not all annimated
weird is cool but Kurt was cooler "oh go ahead" EPIC!
I guessed.
lol the wing looks pretty different then in the musicvideo, but i dont think that matters it's still good!
I love the bad singing
Decent backup band.
Back up band? Have some respect, these guys have been with Al since the beginning!
Diego McArthur Backup band
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backup_band
Steve Dakota I know they are, but they aren't just a back up band, they're like 85 percent of Weird Al! And Steve Jay doesn't look like Charles Manson, like i said, have some respect.
Diego McArthur decent
"Another word to use for "good", because "good" is so played out.
"Man, I'm decent... I mean come on." "
Diego McArthur backup band

his voice was getting gruff!
@pivotmakinganimations i dont think nirvana were very expensive... aerosmith and guns n roses are bands that were expensive i would think
You do realize catolog96 was merely repeating what Al said in the interview, right?
Next time watch the video before responding to comments.
no, they had money for nirvana, but felt weird AL was the better candidate!
yes they would if they were cool enough. or they would have both weird AL and Nirvana!
Tyler Alvarado that's right😂😂
@gulllars
Forever 27
still alot better than nirvana hahahaha
Very awkward interview
Why U say that
Eh it's okay
That's what happens when you interview someone named weird
Yes, I'm just saying as big of a joke mtv was back in the day its 1 billion times worse today in the present.
Technically he doesn't have to ask permission at all. He just does it out of respect
