The great thing about this is Weird Al's performance here perfectly exposes the insanity and unrealism of Simmons' character. This isn't how real musicians get work done, and thus Weird Al is completely losing his mind trying to play to this dude's fiddle.
I concur. Saw them both. I vaguely remember what Birdman was about. I was enthralled and moved by Whiplash. Probably because I have some Nieman in me. I wouldn't have taken the abuse part of things, but often in my life (sports mostly) I performed best to "shutup" or prove wrong my coach. It's just what fueled me. Whiplash also has a very good debate centered around it. In the end, if you had to pick a winner, did Nieman or Fletcher actually win? Sure, Nieman showed who is boss. But was it simply because of what Fletcher did? All though clearly not effective for all, it could be argued that Fletcher did what is necessary to create one of the greatest drummers of all time. Before someone says "his solo wasn't that great" (I always get that) it is a movie where they can't actually make the greatest solo ever. It's supposed to represent that.
You like Whiplash more because you can relate to it better, not because it had superior cinematography, writing, acting, etc. Though the academy awards are rigged, Birdman was definitely superior in those aspects.
Birdman had superior cinematography, I freely admit that. Writing not so much. Acting, no. Whiplash definitely had better acting than Birdman. Norton was great in Birdman, Simmons was greater in Whiplash. Miles Teller was also better than Keaton.

One of the greatest movies of all time. Being in a band program at two different high schools as well as being in the percussion section really made this something so captivating and personal. Watching "Whiplash" led me to watch "The Spectacular Now" which I found on TH-cam for free. Another great Miles Teller movie. The kid has potential.
Wow such a shame almost no one has heard of Whiplash. I strongly recommend everyone watch it, one of my favorite movies of all time. You're pretty much on the edge of your seat all the way through, and the ending..... best ending to a movie I've seen in a while. The trailers don't do it much justice, but I guarantee you'll love it. JK Simmons and Miles Teller are absolutely superb.

One of the greatest movies of all time. Being in a band program at two different high schools as well as being in the percussion section really made this something so captivating and personal.
Watching "Whiplash" led me to watch "The Spectacular Now" which I found on TH-cam for free. Another great Miles Teller movie. The kid has potential.

Wow such a shame almost no one has heard of Whiplash. I strongly recommend everyone watch it, one of my favorite movies of all time. You're pretty much on the edge of your seat all the way through, and the ending..... best ending to a movie I've seen in a while. The trailers don't do it much justice, but I guarantee you'll love it. JK Simmons and Miles Teller are absolutely superb.
