    I was a punk kid growing up I use to like bands like minor threat, gorilla biscuits, 7 seconds, black flag, teen idols and stuff like that. One day a friend came over to my house and had this gig recorded on a VHS tape (I didn't had MTV at the time), and I haven't even heard of Nirvana before. I still remember the feeling when I saw this gig, I couldn't believe how good and different Nirvana was. I liked everything about them, the sound, the lyrics, their style, they way they played on the stage. It really changed my life.

      @madeinamericalove4722 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@coryc0213 that’s because the way Kurt sung was hard to sustain for long periods of time which is why he didn’t like touring. The best period for live performances far as energy and powerful vocals was from 1987 thru to the beginning of 1992. After that kurts voice had took a really bad strain and he developed laringitis and was able to recoup but only for a short time at the beginning of the In utero tour but eventually lost his strength there as well. I even believe he had to tune the instruments down a step to be able to hit the notes he was usually able to hit easily before.

    I remember when this actually premiered on MTV back 91-92. I was the biggest fan of this band at the age of 11-12 years old. I was out of school for the summer and out of nowhere they announced that Nirvana was coming in to play 7 songs or so. Of course I had to leave my house with my mom to run some errands. I tried to set the VCR to record at the time they were supposed to start. Low and behold 90’s technology completely let me down. I was so bummed.

Layne Staley. RIP to both Layne Staley and Kurt Cobain, for the great music both of you icons left us with. Your legacies were both semented, well before both of your deaths. I saw them at Liberty Lunch in Austin TX just about the time the outgrew clubs and upgraded to big venues and festivals. Amazing show, theres an audio only bootleg on youtube from thst show - somrone musta snuck a portable DAT and some stereo mics bc you can feel the Guy moving around by the fluctuations in the stereo field during the show. Still pretty cool. Even cooler is the fact that I was on set at the North Hollywood club where Dave directed Soundgarden's first video from their reunion album. If thats not surreal enough Deadmau5 was bouncing around waiting for his cameo in the vid. Itt was like a freakin dream. During a break I mentioned that Austin show to Dave annd he rememberrd the show.
      Most big artists iin town stay at the 4 seasons about a mile away - also on the river like the venue.
      He recalled how they were picked up and ferried to and later from in a small boat a secret smuggling ramp and how trippy that was... I often wondered how they got the acts in and out of there without getting mobbed by fans waiting for autographs or lock of hair to yank out.
      Best of.times, as the shroom man said...

This was October 91 i'll never forget it. We almost decided not to do Houston & Austin after the Dallas show cuz it was so overpacked and hot af too, but glad we did after the fact. I never could get how they could keep going at that pace, and that was after 3 previous years of nearly constant touring iirc...

    I like the fact that kurt stepped on his own distortion and effects pedals. Most majorly successful bands if you notice have their guitar techs back stage tuning their 50 guitar's and pressing the pedals for them. How you know this watch most major metal, rock or alternative bands preform. They never step on a pedal to switch from clean guitar to distortion. And they never tune their guitar's between songs they switch to a guitar that's tuned for the next song. Kurt changes keys himself and sings plays controls the pedals tunes the same guitar. Non of the rock star bull crap

    • @UKSportsFan
      @UKSportsFan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      One thing to keep in mind is that this was 30 years ago. Most bands back then and before would control their own pedals on stage....it's only become more acceptable for techs to do that offstage in the past couple of decades.

      @@UKSportsFan even though it was that long ago, it was also antiquated equipment which Cobain specifically wanted and required, he had a lead tech that would repair and keep triplicates in every part on hand to keep them that way, because of the sound they produced. He refused to use the current day distortion pedals and effects because they weren't the same, and this was a pain in the ass to keep up but it is one of the numerous details that Cobain was a perfectionist in his art/music.
