    Really helpful video mate! Too many videos about how to shot some lame ass travel footage here on youtube but no one really talks about how to use that thing in action.
    Glad you filled that gap! Very well appreciated

    Thanks Sam. Best video I could find on this topic:) I've been taking my gopro out without a floater, so it was good to hear your warnings.

    Its kind of funny that about 10 minutes before watching this i was reading a thread in a facebook FPV group on how to keep your FPV goggles from fogging and spit or rainx is what everyone was suggesting. Great idea for the gopro.

    Great video - thanks! When you're using the floaty backdoor - how do you connect it to the GoPro? It doesn't look like you have any housing, which is how I see the backdoor normally attached.

    Hi Sam. Excellent. Are you sure it is not 1080 hypersmooth stabilisation, super View, 16:9 and 100 fps, not 120, with the gopro 7? Regards, Lars.

    Nice!! Now, editing? Maybe a video on that? Seems like the normal gopro software is a bit behind.

    • @mjsunkiter
      @mjsunkiter 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. I have played around with it a bit and I find myself disappointed. What software are you using to stitch this all together Sam?

      Yes I also agree the go pro editing software is frustrating. Would be great to hear anouther simple, down to earth review from Sam just like this one on some favorite editing tools.

    very useful video, thanks for that. anyone found the perfect dry bag/satchel to put a gopro in after shooting with a mouth mount?
    Ideally a bag you could keep safely and comfortably while kiting.

    Found this video really helpful as I've just got my Hero 7 Black. I am curious on 2 fronts why you recommend 1080 & 120 frames per second. This doesn't enable Hypersmooth stabilisation which I thought was one of the key selling points for the latest model. Secondly, isn't that format NSTC rather than PAL? Does it matter which you set it to? I'm UK based.

    • @SamLight
      @SamLight  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea 1080 and 120 should still enables hypersmooth

    • @SamLight
      @SamLight  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn't matter if you use NSTC or PAL, just make sure to keep it consistent one or the other, you dont want to change between them. 120 works with both pal and nstc

    • @baxterbradford7063
      @baxterbradford7063 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've just tried again & can't get Hypersmooth in 1080 at above 50 or 60fps depending on whether PAL or NSTC. It will give standard stabilisation at the higher frame rate (100/120fps), but not the Hypersmooth.

    • @baxterbradford7063
      @baxterbradford7063 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for responding to both my points. I'll stick with PAL as video I shot from my old drone is in that format.

    You should try the U-GO mount for those bird views!
    I have had the one you use and as you said - you kinda loose the green things.
    The U-GO is way easier to use and the safety is a lot higher(if you ever release you chickenloop)

    cool vid. Helps me a lot! Will copy your settings and try it (with a hero5 instead), cause my footage looks pathetic after i render and upload it on yt. Rly frustrates me(tried 1000 different render settings after hours of research).. Raw footage looks completly fine for me. I'm using Movie Studio Platinum and i feel like it destroys the image. Long story short, would you mind telling me which programm you're using for post production? ty and keep it up!

    I'm looking to change the rotation settings for when you use a kite line mount (the same as in the video), because the camera does auto rotate until you start recording, which means that you are right way up when going one way but upside down when going the other. Is there a way to get the auto rotate to work while recording? (Hero Black 7)

    Is it possible to put a link to that floaty back door please? I can’t find one for sale for the GoPro 5/6/7

    • @SamLight
      @SamLight  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, I think the go pro comes with two different door's to the case, then you just stick the standard floaty back door to the solid case, if that makes sense, sorry its hard to explain, maybe I'll make another video :)

    • @jonathanwilson5081
      @jonathanwilson5081 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sam Light I used the existing door on the GoPro 7 and cut an old plastic RAC card to fit into the gap from the inside and then gave me a surface to stick the floaty to. Has been solid so far.....

    For photos it’s much easier to just have it on video mode and later use gopro app to take the photo out from the video. That way you can have superview and you dont have to change the modes back and forth.

    I see in one of the shots that your lines get twisted and the slingshot bar swivel does not untangle them, i have the same problem with one of my Slingshot bars any tips on that? I tried oil and cleaning it but nothing works and its only with one bar the other works fine.Thanks for great video's man!!!

    • @axarothfiefa6676
      @axarothfiefa6676 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      kite666G If one front line is stretched, the pressure is unequal and the spinner won’t spin. But that being said, I used to ride all slingshot kites and NONE of my swivels worked. I always had to reach up and twist them. Now I ride Core with Core bars.... never had a line twist ever.

    why would you use a mouth mount when you can just mount on your head on a helmet, or on your chest? any advantages? seems more annoying to have something in your mouth while kiting...thanks next...wizmount!

    • @SamLight
      @SamLight  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The chest is not as good as your head, it looses the natural vision of where you are looking. Helmet works well but not as natural as in your mouth

  • @niekvanwensen

    I actually never use burst mode, because when you make a video in 60 fps you can can grab a frame out of there so it’s basically a burst with 60 (or 120 or 240) photos in a second. That way u can just keep on recording and don’t have to change settings or start the burst at the right time

    That mouth mount is a knock off and the original was made by Pro Standard Grill mounts in Canada.
    Best mouth mount on the market and after forming the bite in hot water, is by far the most comfortable way to have a camera in your mouth. I have a small recoil leash and its clipped to my harness, but I mostly keep the GoPro under my front zip on my wetsuit. Stows quickly and comfortable. I can have it out in a second on the fly. Leash has never gotten in my shot.

  • @galzohar
    @galzohar 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Superview is great but the explanation is actually wrong. What it does is provide larger field of view up/down but record only 4:3 aspect ratio, then stretches the sides to make it 16:9. So you get more above/below you at the cost of somewhat funny looking sides. Great for point of view (mouth/head/etc mount).
    As far as I know the reason the photos don't have it is that the aspect ratio is different and uses the whole sensor anyway, so superview wouldn't provide any benefit. You could theoretically post-process the image to be like superview, but there's obviously no point in doing that.

    What a sick video!
    It's so nice to finally have a kitesurfer share their experiences with gopros while doing the best sport in the world. You nailed it!
    It seems I need to use that saliva and dunk trick. I'm just licking it and going for it.
    This is the mount I use and I actually find it pretty sweet to keep in my mouth for a whole session : shop.gopro.com/APAC/mounts/bite-mount-plus-floaty/ASLBM-001.html
    Its a versatile mount that lets you also clip it to your board for an additional point of view or if you just don't want to keep it on you anymore during a session. Beware though as sometimes the clips can come off in big crashes!
    Here's my footage after using it:

    Great tips Sam! I see that you didn't mention a kite mount. I use a homemade mount (made of velcro) and love it... th-cam.com/video/dE-goLypwSg/w-d-xo.html. I also see there's a comment below about editing; I always have trouble with grainy video after uploading to TH-cam... if there's a secret recipe to fix this I'd love to know it.

    Great video Sam! What about the follow shots, do you use super view on those too? Doesn't everything looks "too far away"? Or is just about getting really close to the target?
