    I disagree with the negative comments. You gave us good tips and things to experiement with on the beach, in a controlled environment, in light winds. I have had mixed success at untangling my bars and lines and this Vlog definitely helped. Anyone who has thangled thier lines knows how dangerous it can be. Learning how to untangle them safely is critical. For me, this video was helpful.

    Nice and useful provided you’re in safe setup : not alone on the water as you introduced, but rather on the beach ready to start. I would not entertain doing it in the water, regardless of light wind this may turn into uncontrolled situation (specially the 2nd case looks a perfect way to make mistakes).
    Any this helped me to understand why I got some twist while I was using Kitecleat to ensure my lines where stored in the proper order. Thanks for the hint now I can revert such situation faster on the beach without having to redo the full monthly :-)

      Absofuckinglutely wrong! These guys are insane to suggest unleashing first!
      Almost all kite surfers ride with long leashes and unleashing is one of the biggest nono! Long leash will twist around the bar once you turn it to set the leading lines in order but - so what?!?! You hook on the chicken loop, put on donkey dick and THEN is the time to unleash and untangle leash from the bar and connect it again. Never, but never hold the bar solely in your hands! It must be either hooked in or when unhooked - leashed! The guys should learn how to do this exercise correctly and make the video again!
      I do it mostly in water when kite falls and tumbles but I would have never done that unhooked and unleashed!!!

    Did this three days ago in the water, but trying the roll before disconnecting the 5th line. Kite death looped, broke the safety line, and lost the kite. The problem is the bar is powered up after the roll when you let go of the front lines. Through unbelievable luck, a friend was on his sailboat and caught my kite. Another boat picked me up, dropped me at my kite my friend caught, and I was able to self rescue to shore.
    On the water, the kite moves a lot more than on the ground. Don't let go of the front lines before putting the bar in de-power position.With a kite on the ground, you can walk forward and roll the kite over to de-power it. Try that on the water and the kite will move and launch.
    I'm not trying this stuff in the water again.

    awsome, I had this twice yesterday because my sail was stalling and then rolling. Botn back lines jammed with front lines. The bar roll would have done the trick. Thanks! I will try next time!

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes for sure just be carful as a foil kite can jump up a little quicker on relaunching backwards and forwards. A little more finicky! In theory yes you can....

  • @khrisloux
    @khrisloux 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Damien LeRoy. Two safety questions; would it be better to leash the chicken-loop and reconnect after the bar roll to prevent the kite being completely unconnected (yes, the leash gets rolled onto the bar)? would it be safer to hold the center lines until after the bar is unrolled?

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The best always is to land your kite and do it on land with the kite not powered. If you have to do this I recommend our way as you do not want to have that leash wrapped up in your bar potentially! Could lead to worse things.... This is a advanced move and really I always would recommend land your kite and fix it if you have that option always..

      Its quite simple really your bar goes inside your centerline or really any of the lines. Then when re organized you have the twist.

    I tried to do this and it went terribly wrong sending my kite into a death Loop and it dragged me 100 ft across a frozen lake. I lost 40% of my top layer skin because it pulled down my pants as I was being dragged. As as I reflect I hooked on before I made sure the lines were safe so when the lines got tension the center line was wrapped around the bar locking it in place. All safety systems where are inaccessible and I had to completely take off my harness. Please practice in low wind conditions and before u try this or dont try this at all!!!!!!! I was lucky!

    I don’t have a problem with doing this, but this video makes the mistake many times of letting go of the center lines while lines are still wrapped around the bar. It only works out because they’re shooting this in no wind. In real conditions people will get injured, just like some people reported when they tried this in the comments below. Hate to say this, but I think this video is actively unsafe and you should reshoot it on the water, in windy conditions, and do it properly.

    • @DamienLeroyYouTube
      @DamienLeroyYouTube  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your insight.. The reason for the video is to show how its done. We always recommend landing your kite and fixing it before ever trying this. To try it on the water is only for those that don't have the option to land and feel confident to do it, but you can always hit your safety kill self rescue and kite another day.

    That was explained and demonstrated well. I’ve experienced this on the beach just as you stated. Now I understand a better technique to clear the lines and go. The second time occurred on the water when the kite back stalled and inverted. I had to seek assistance, otherwise I would have body dragged or maybe flown the kite cautiously back to the launch stopping well clear of fellow kiters. As you say practice is the best teacher. • @BisdremisKostas
    @BisdremisKostas 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This tangling happens very often when you land a trick successfully but meanwhile your kite touches the water, then lines slack and kite rolls downwind .My way to prevent this the first way is to dive in the water as long as i see my kite touch the water, this way i prevent my lines getting slack and kite spin all over.So you have a good chance of preventing this whole bar untangling process in the first place.

      If you set your lines up correctly in the beginning before you went out on the water. No matter how many inverts or twists happen it all can come back to perfect by the method.

  • @christopherdunkley2632
    @christopherdunkley2632 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Yes kind of dangerous to bar juggle (definitely advanced,) also if a steering line is inside of a kite bar with a mid V, as opposed to low V such as a Core bar, this technique won't work. It is useful for instructors during lessons, to save the client valuable time on the water.

      As I think about your question and my comment, I realize, I learned back when you started on 'rounds'- old Army green T-10 canopies. If you weren't paying attention as you gathered up your canopy and lines and walked back to where you pack, you could get them twisted up. My first jump was in April of 1984. I have about 1125 now but haven't jumped in a long while.

    Sorry guys but with all the respect, this kind of manœuvre is technical and potentially super sketchy. As you show it at 2.20min, the back lines are easily wrapping around the bar and it can lead to a kite looping outta control. Beginners don't have the skills to foresee and react properly when facing a bad scenario. Last time I saw a dude doing this (actually with a cabrinha FX 2017 10m) he flew unhooked 10 foot in the air before even knowing what was happening. he ended up with a broken ankle. He was actually rather lucky. If you twist your lines, relaunch the kite as usual, make sure it behaves rather properly, head back to the shore, land the kite and untwist everything calm and smooth. Twisting your lines is the result of a piloting/riding mistake, I guess you should analyse why it happened instead of trying to fix things fast. Sorry for intervening this way, but as an instructor, my only aim is to warn people properly.

      @daversj 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      In 2015 the new chicken loop was fantastic. For 2016 and 2017 it was the same except for new orange color. In 2018 they made the chicken loop with a smaller profile and much harder to reset. Its seems they lost some ease of function when they streamlined the aesthetics.. Much more prone to sand than the previous years as well. My guess is all their testing is done by team pros. If a noob can operate it easily then you have something. It just seems like they made it worse in 2018.....
