    By far the best video I have seen on video tips for Kiteboarding!

  • @niekvanwensen

    8:55 4K 60fps also dramatically shortens the battery life, so I personally always record on 2.7k 60fps

    I use my GoPro mainly as a training aid so as I can see what I'm actually doing rather than what I think I'm doing. A few bit's I've learnt and wanted to share with you;
    - many centre struts have the space to wrap a wrist strap mount around them and this gets a great view from the kite down to you
    - the GoPro - Ball Joint Buckle Mount allows you to swivel a GoPro mounted on the front of a helmet from landscape to portrait and back again
    - if you can find one the Sennheiser MKE2 Elements Waterproof Microphone for the Hero 4 records the best audio for kitesurfing

    • @OurKiteLife
      @OurKiteLife  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing - these are great tips! We've seen some shots taken from the centre struts before, they look great! We haven't tried it yet ourselves but will experiment in the future

    About the mount on the board/butt view, turn it around and catch a little footage of the tail end of your board and the wake and spray and if you are going forward with it on that side, catch some footage that way too. I take a clip mount and a thick strap and get some really good POV while snowboarding by mounting the camera on the side of my leg, just below my knee. It looks pretty cool forward to have the nose of my board chattering in the foreground of the frame or see the trees drop back as I accelerate away from them. Adds another interesting angle to mix into a video. Likewise, ziplining, I mount a camera on the back of my helmet and it looks so cool as the platform disappears - especially if you are in the canopy. Whitewater rafting I also have a camera on the back of my helmet to catch the expressions of other folks in the raft. Big fun!

    • @OurKiteLife
      @OurKiteLife  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice - these are great tips. Love the ideas and getting creative with different angles/views for a wider variety of footage!

    • @Pete_R63
      @Pete_R63 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It does make for a more interesting flow if you cut to a back view and then maybe up at the kite and a front view etc. It doesn't have to be the 'actual' moment - nobody will notice! ; )

  • @cefirmeza
    @cefirmeza 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great review. I just bought a GP7 and wonder why do you prefer wide view over superview. I guess the superview would be preferable as covers mostly board and kite on screen.

    • @OurKiteLife
      @OurKiteLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Both are fine - it's just personal preference. It depends on the shot you're after.

    Is there any way to bite on the floaty with the hero7, like a back door you can stick the floaty on or something?

    • @OurKiteLife

      We rarely color correct and for the most use everything on stock settings. Honestly color correction will make things look more professional, but less real at the same time.

    Subscribed -- like your videos. Question -- any thoughts / reasons not to use the 7 hero with a super suit? I know the camera itself is rated for 10m but I'm wigged out about kiting with just the stock protection...

    • @OurKiteLife
      @OurKiteLife  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly we never gave much thought to using a super suit, and probably won't use it. Our Gopro 7 took a beating on our last trip, and it still looks like new. Just watch out for the lens - and for that you can always get a lens protector.

    How do you deal with kite tranistion or kiteloop? Does your image go upsidedown. I had the gopro hero 4 as well and I sold it to buy the 7 black. But I'm wondering how to deal with the line mount to don't get all the footage inverted while making transition and loops.
    Thanks for your advice

    I rewatched this ţo adjust my settings. I'm confused, Initially you mention using 1440, which is only 4:3. Later you say to make sure it is in 16:9, which is not 1440 - when you show it your camera is in 1080? Trying to find setting that views largest area for use with line mount - I keep getting cropped out...

    • @OurKiteLife
      @OurKiteLife  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      with a line mount use 1440, which is 4:3, everything else use 16:9, unless you have time to edit out in post

    • @bad_case
      @bad_case 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Our Kite Life Haha, ok. So I think, for me as a beginner, a mouthpiece with a strap around my neck would be the best option.

    • @OurKiteLife
      @OurKiteLife  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes - the mouth mount is the best option in our opinion

    • @Pete_R63
      @Pete_R63 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      One thing to consider, rather than a strap around your neck, they do make a safety strap that goes around your upper arm. The downside is, if you have a even a little arm muscle (I'm not huge, about 16 inches flexed) and the strap is a bit small. I may modify mine because it seems a bit better to be on my arm than around my neck- like a noose. Just some thoughts.

    Confused - at 3:19 you state that a pro tip is to set the resolution to 1440P, but then at 8:31 you state that you shoot at 1080P. Which one is best?

    • @OurKiteLife
      @OurKiteLife  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      for the dome shots and the line mount we recommend to use 1440p so in post production you can frame the shots better, as sometimes dome/line mount will cut parts of you if set to 1080p. All other shots we shoot at 1080p (95%). Hope this helps

      Our Kite Life Toronto wow when I think of Toronto I definitely don’t think of it as a amazing place to go kiting but that’s pretty interesting. So you kite mainly in freshwater lakes I imagine? I guess I’m sort of spoiled being in Florida we have ocean and huge lakes but most the kiting I’ve seen has been in salt water. I guess you could kite surf anywhere there’s water and wind tho.
