Different cultures have new years in different dates, it’s a really arbitrary thing so I totally get Erik. In Brazil is common to say we don’t feel like the year has started until after carnival celebrations (which occur in February, sometimes March).

So I have a ? For you then… I’m very uneducated on the Jewish culture. Do u celebrate the Jewish new year and the dec 31 new year too? Or is it like Hanukkah and Christmas? I hope this makes sense and I’m not offending u by asking. I’m genuinely curious

    • @Thisusernameisoverrated
      @Thisusernameisoverrated ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@cleosworld9096 totally okay to ask! So Jewish New Years is a New Years by the Jewish lunar calendar and it’s celebrating the new year and has a lot of focus on self reflection and self betterment. There are a lot of cultural foods eaten and you spend time with family and observant Jews would go to synagogue and pray. When it comes to the secular New Years (Dec 31- Jan 1) a lot of Jews will celebrate like anyone else does because it’s a fun to-do but there are a handful of Jews that don’t care or celebrate particularly. It comes down to personal preference. I will say I appreciate Rosh Hashanah more because there is so much introspection, mindfulness, tradition involved. Whereas in January people just kinda have superficial celebrations to watch the ball drop and not much else. Also, it’s cold and dreary and resolutions made in January are almost a joke where people know they won’t actually change😂😂
      Edit:
There are a lot of Jewish communities where not celebrating secular New Years is VERY common. It really depends. My family is from the former USSR so secular New Years is a big thing by my relatives party/celebration wise. My fiancé brought to my attention that it’s more common to not celebrate in other communities.

Colleen, you thinking your logic is the only logic that is as correct as "the sky is blue" shows how little of an understanding you have for other people's thinking. By the way, you don't have to understand every little thing others feel, you just have to accept it. It doesn't harm anything that he thinks the beginning of the year is September. Accepting and Understanding are two different things. For me, the beginning of the year is April, because where I live, that's the beginning of the school year, and the fiscal year. A calendar is a repetitive things. Months loop around. The gregorian calendar is a part of your life structure. To some people, it has no affect on their life structure. My patient was 90, she was actively dying, it wasn't expected per say but wasn't necessarily unexpected, she was very lethargic, curled up on her side in bed sleeping all day, there would be brief moments, seconds long that she would open her eyes. Her son didn't leave her side, he'd hold her face in his hands, as she was there curled up sleeping and he'd rub her face with his thumb. She typically was stay asleep, but occasionally would open her eyes for a few seconds and just look back at him before closing her eyes again. She was at such peace, and he held her until her final moments and days including her last breath. She passed away on my shift, and I also had her the days prior as we knew it was getting close, but it truly felt like that book. @@LM-mr3fd I believe the OP is calling out Colleen’s narcissism, not saying that Colleen actually believes he is.

I do have to agree with Erik. School starts where I live in August so for me the "year" starts. Yes January is the 1st month of the year but it feels like the middle of the year.

Relating to the first conversation: The beginning and end of the year is not a fact, same with the first day of the week. It's just a cultural thing. Time is a social construct.

As soon as Erik told Colleen she was right, she became so much more willing to actually listen to erik. Yikes lol

Us Persians celebrate the new year on the very first day of spring on March 20th. its the beginning of the year for us, and it kinda makes the most sense to me cause everything starts with spring(the flowers bloom,....) and ends with winter.
but i loved how Colleen got sooo mad at Erik :))
    LOVE YOU BOTH

i doubt anyone will ever see this comment -- but just in case. my mom was diagnosed with cancer my sophomore year of college. she read “love you forever” to me all the time since i was little. so it was 2018 when i got “love you forever, like you for always, longer than i’m living, my baby you’ll be” tattooed in her handwriting. cannot lie, i sobbed hysterically while erik read it. thank you. sending so much love to you both always 💘

erik is right, time is just a made up concept, so who cares how you view it in your mind?

Honestly….. the most frustrating thing about the “Month” and “day of the week” debate is that Colleen just WONT let Erik just FEEL HOW HE FEELS….. it isn’t that big of a deal. People can feel however the heck they want to feel….. it isn’t always necessary to always have to PROVE him wrong, you know? Because honestly, I fully understand how Erik feels the way he does. ESPECIALLY the first day of the week. Sunday may be the first day on the calendar week, but I personally feel like Monday is ACTUALLY the first day of every week and Sunday, the last.

Colleen RELAX! 😂 I felt attacked because I agree with Erik about the start of the week and the start or the year, so it was like you're arguing with me and I don't like being called narcisistic and crazy for no reason 😅

It’s a square box, December in the upper left corner followed by January and February. The right side are the three months of spring, summer on the bottom and fall on the left side. Although for some reason the top and bottom are slightly shorter lines across so it’s more like a rectangle. Maybe because I am always hoping winter is over fast and summer is never long enough.

Colleen needs to remember that the Gregorian calendar isn't the only calendar in existence, let alone the "correct" one. Other, much older cultures do exist. I understand saying "this is the calendar I follow" but be careful saying "this is the scientific, correct one, said by everyone." It's not.

And with just a quick google search I learned the March used to be the first month of the year (according to the Roman calendar), but was then changed to January in 154 BCE.
      The power or knowledge.
