    Thank you for the tour. We just got three Nigerians here on Maui, so this is all new to us. We built an 8’x8’ two sided shed to shelter from wind and rain. It has a 4’x4’ sleeping teepee inside, and their feeding stations. The coldest it gets, up here on the mountain, is 50 degrees at night in winter. Since you asked what we liked and didn’t like about your set up: it all looks great, except I wondered if there is any natural light on the boys side, or if they are in darkness when they are shut in there.

      Sounds like a nice setup! So the boys side, they do get some light through the feeding area and the gaps in the wood from the girls. I don't think its ideal but they do get some. I have been thinking about getting the boys a new setup as its a little small and hard to clean out.

    Where did you learn the basics of goat tending, their nutrition, care, how to handle problems? Is there a good manual?

    Great set up! Would love a build plan of what you did so I could just copy it exactly! Do you have that?
    Or dimensions?
    What kind of wood did you use?

      We didn't use any plans, just the posts, and built from there. Pretty simple, just a 8x10ft original building.

    Nice setup ! Question, do you put the goats away at night and shut the door? I have a similar set up like yours and put mine away at night due to coyotes.

    • @BreakFreeHomestead
      @BreakFreeHomestead  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you! Yes we do, initially we didn't because we had electric on the exterior fence but a physical door is more secure. Coyotes suck.

    I live in the high desert of Albuquerque NM where snow is rare and melts when the sun comes up anyway. Would I need an enclosed shed for sleeping or just a lean to built against the feed shed wall? My goats will be backyard pets in a suburban atmosphere. No way for predators, except hawks, to get into my yard that has cider block

      A lot of people do three side shelters, it depends if you have predators also.
