- Best Ultra Lite and Emergency Shelter /Tent System for use with a Poncho for 2024
We discuss the use of the NEW PATHFINDER PONCHO POLES for making an Ultra Light Shelter System for camping and Emergencies, also can be used for Winter Shelters
Dave Canterbury Exclusive Pathfinder Brand item for Helikon and imilar Ponchos
The poles can also be purchased separately this Friday at 1pm for 43.99. This will not be as deep on the dome with Surplus ponchos. Space blankets alone will not work as they do not stretch. Thank you for your support and views.
There is always something you can learn from Mr. Canterbury…love this stuff!
A uco candle latern under there when all 4 corners on the ground warm it up nicely. And theres plenty of ventilation to let you breathe under there. Would be cozy in a cold and nasty emergency
Sweet! 👍 Reminds me a lot of the Alpharubicon Alpha Tents of years gone by. Glad to see this concept resurrected and improved. Love it!
Love the alpha rubicon set-up! Its prolly the best hooch set up out there!
Awesome, just ordered some poles myself to add to my survival shelter options!
I remember we discussed this at the basic class in August last year. I shared my pictures of my poncho pals poles that I used during a training mission in GA and you were impressed. I slept under that thing for 2.5 weeks. Glad to see these on the market now. Good luck in your sales!!
That is by far THE BEST idea I’ve ever seen. Will be buying several sets for our go bags.
Wow you guys at Pathfinder are killing it! So far this year I've spent the night out under my Pathfinder survival blankets at nearly single digit temps, last weekend used my skillet, alcohol burner, PM40, and Scout Canteen. Now do I cobble together my own set up in an attempt to make this, or simply give Dave more of my money? I think I can see where this is going...😁
Dave you never fail to teach me new tips, hacks, etc. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with all of us!!!
Very clever system; well thought out and nice modularity, too. Cheers
Dave never runs out of great ideas! 👍
Awesome setup. No one can keep up with your innovativeness and pursuit from idea to end-use products.
Another great video. Thanks.
This is my favourite way to take care of the "cover" element of the 10 Cs that I've seen in ages! I'm hoping to pick up a kit, tomorrow! Thanks Dave!
Really great minimalist, lightweight emergency shelter. Thanks, Dave.
Great setup ! 👌 THANKS.
Brilliant idea! Looks like a nice umbrella !
I love the idea of always being a student. Thanks Dave for always making me a student!
Love this set up. Very simple and thought out. Space blanket is a nice touch.
Real nice and simple Dave. Compliments the last video you made. Easy to keep this stuff with you on a day hike😊Thanks😊
We really do appreciate you Dave. Thanks for your commitment.
Awesome idea! I love the setup. Looking forward to the purchasing it next week.
Thanks Dave
Pretty clever. Thanks for sharing!
In 2019 I did a video with tent poles for this alpha tent concept "The Alpha Tent Poncho in heavy rain". The pole length you are looking for is 8% longer than your longest diagonal. I wasn’t the first with the alpha tent idea using tent poles but as far as I know I was the first to quantify the length needed. This 8% (8.4% to be super exact) can be applied to any size poncho/tarp/etc.
I did the same thing using the USMC tarp which is larger (and heavier) using a longer set of poles. Same 8% greater length, worked perfect.
I might have try one in my winter adventures 👍👍
Great follow up video explaining this system in further detail, Dave. Thanks!
I bought them, I like them. I had to extend my non helicon poncho with a couple strings with small bowlands. they offer you a ton of options for shelter and shade.
Really great stuff!
Thank you
Very cool!
Wow that's awesome! I'll definitely have to get a set. I got lost once ginseng hunting, 3-4 times deer hunting, then once over in the Allegheny mountains in Pennsylvania hunting black beans. Having a survival pack with a shelter is like peace of mind.
excellent idea, Dave. great video, thanks
Such a hero. Thank you for all your advice. Loved you on dual survival btw
Great video! Dave is truly the man when it comes to outdoor survival!!
Great video Dave. I enjoyed the basic class back in November.
Continually awesome content and innovation. I'm all for it, Sir.
This was a great demo of the system!
Dave, Ty I will stop by Friday, Hope there are some left....Like this setup
Great product imo. Thanks
Great idea 👍
Very useful application of kit. Great idea!!! I'm gonna have to get a set of these poles. Thanks for the video and for sharing another excellent piece of kit with us Dave. Always learning new ways to utilize existing applications and gear. Awesome!!!
Wow, that shelter brings back memories. We made something similar when I was in the army, in mountain warfare school. We used tree branches of course, but same concept.
Got to give props 👏 old idea made new again! I’m going to check it out on Friday!
Nice work!
Awesome set up
Thanks for the vid, product and pinned comment. Answered exactly whar I was going to ask.
I have already been using my 10x10 diamond fly and a rapid deployment ridge line in a similar set-up ... It works really well.
Thanks Dave for making available truly remarkable products! Many of your products are filling a need many of us have longed for. Thanks for making our outdoor experience so much more rewarding!
Very cool Dave! I've been messing around with tarp shelters and been wanting to make one with my poncho so I'm definitely gonna grab these poles! Thanks Dave!
Cool Setup idea! 🏕
Very cool idea!
Pathfinder is the best. I am thinking about doing one or two of your courses. I live in UK
I need these poles! Wish I had watched this video and the previous one sooner. Well I signed up for the notification so now I’ll just eagerly wait for them to come back in stock.
Perfect for peace of mind whilst out and about.
Another great idea & product, Dave! I really admire how you keep finding ways to constantly improve your system. This is a huge upgrade with very little investment.
It’s so simple yet it’s flipping genius! Excellent video, concept and execution brother!
Dave this is a great Setup and Great Deal , Awesome All Around Brotha !
Nice system easy up, Take Care Safe Out There
I miss you on TV bro! Thanks for all the knowledge and keeping on teaching us
That looks great for day hikes or the essentials bag
Very slick.👍
Nice Dave, I like this one.
Thanks Dave. I had the privilege to be at the 2012 Gathering and to learn hands on the things your videos had taught me.
If it's not possible to build a winter fire for some reason, the space blanket will reflect body heat somewhat - while reflecting the cold out - when the shelter is fully down. I'm supposing people will also block the openings as much as possible.
If I wasn't an old lady now I'd get one for myself. However, I will be getting one for my nephew who came to Ohio to keep me "out of trouble" at the event 😂
That's a nice setup, and I need a new poncho. Good video
The best & minimalist shelter we've seen so far. It is so simple & user friendly. This system just open a whole lot of design & avenues that could be incorporated making it more functional & a must have item for the outdoors & survival situation. Cheers DC from Australia.
I did something almost exactly like this. Except i just used tent poles on each corner and one behind to get the parabolic shape in the back. My tarp was just folded in half so there was a built in ground sheet. Nice work.
Pretty unique. Damn clever. I like the minimal aspect to it. Ed M. rocks.
What a great idea!
Your living my dream man. just making a living inventing camping and survival gear.
Nice kit.
Wow! Thats a good deal for all that stuff! The jewel of adding the space blanket is that the shape of the shelter is going to focus the energy from a fire or just body-heat. I used to work as a lighting tech for music/concert and corporate/convention event's back in the 1990's & 2000's our main fixture was the "1000 Watt PAR-Can" (Parabolic Aluminized Reflector), I can attest that the Parabolic effect is very good at heating thing's up!
exactly what i need since i suck at tying nots! going to be grabbing one when they come back in stock
I already have the poncho, glad the poles will be available separately although another poncho won’t go to waste!
Nice !
Thats a great idea on the poles.. im interested in the kit also, never can have to many ponchos..
Hell Yeah Dave 🤙🏻
This crazy weather! Glad you were able to record 💯
I’m only 5’4, so I’d fit in that shelter perfectly 😂
Looks good to me 👍
Amazing concept brother!🔥
Two of these would make a great shelter facing shelter combo.
Squirrel cooker is AWESOME... PLEASE MAKE A BED ROLL COOKER again.
Innovation! Love it. So smart. Weight of poles? Aluminum I presume.
An SOL mylar tarp underneath and a savvotta fdf sleeping pad would be killer. Very cool idea
I have been using the alpha shelter for a couple of years.cut my own poles and a few for family. Works as a ground blind also.
Pretty neat.
Nice.
You should make a military poncho that is already lined with the space blanket material to go with the poles
I’m going to try this using saplings this weekend.
Hi Dave. I was an instructor for Marty Simon at the Wilderness Learning Center in Northern New York. Marty was a night ambush specialist. He used this set up in Viet Nam. He called it the "Nammie" I'm 6'2, so it never fit me right.
Great idea. Now you’re getting into the realm of ultralight backpacking. The poles could also be made out of ultralight aluminum to decrease weight further.
Saw the "poles" in a recent video release... Cool idea... Beats a green stick this time of year!
When I first saw that X it looked like a great frame to make a Moxon antenna. Talk about multi use, radio and shelter.
Very cool! I remember finding the concept of the Alpha Tent and wondering why nobody every bothered to produce a kit, but probably because there's just enough variation in poncho's it's not worth it. But some sort of cut-to-length pole system, or as he described in an update to the article, somebody sent him what appeared to be a titanium set of poles that he'd been 'issued'.
I think offering it up along with the proper poncho is a great idea, and the offset to the cross in the poles was a great idea for the additional headroom!
Greetings from Wisconsin 👍, up here I’ve yet to ever see a timber rattler, would work good for the north that tent.
Nice Brother
Gotta have!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great concept, turn it upside-down and its a rain collector!
I'm definitely going to be getting some poles
Can’t wait for mine to show up. Would be cool if you had them sized for the Pathfinder Survival Blanket so no need for crappy mylar blanket.
Hey Dave I’m a fan of yours been watching for along time was wondering what kind of Pancho that was cause that is the kind of setup I was looking for my survival bag again keep up with the great videos
