Bro, imagine having the sense to give up the throne but having the charisma to having it handed right back. The nobility really placed a lot of faith in Baldwin

Leprosy is such a fascinating historical disease. Mycobacterium leprae is so slow-growing, manifesting the characteristic skin lesions can take so long (most mycobacterium skin infections carry uniquely painless ulcers). To have carried the stigma of disease with dignity and faith, inspiring warriors who would likely be disgusted by you, all while having to be a king and military strategist, is a remarkable testament to Baldwin IV's sheer force of will and devotion to Christ. Glad to see people taking an interest in this amazing figure from history again.
@@pavelslama5543 Wrong. Inherit something does not make you someone. Tons of kings were completely useless 1d10-ts. In factm inheriting a Kingdom like Jerusalem was one of the heaviest duties of all times. Having enemies everywhere.

The scene where he ride out to meet Salahdin and muslim army... The scene where that muslim commander says, Jerusalem has come and then the golden cross appears, along with the full Christian army and Baldwin leading them... It is such an incredible goosebumps scene ❤️.
I wonder what kind of teaching they had back in the days to make such a great king? The sense and humility to abdicate and just acknowledging his shortcomings. Pushing through the perils of life and fulfilling the responsibilities he was handed with such due diligence. Its insane to imagine. Indeed diamonds are formed under pressure.
Life was hard back then. No matter how rich someone was, they were always facing death, famine, diseases and war. They had to be strong, with courage and willpower or they would have died at early age (which a lot of people did, actually).
The video is mostly right, but this at 0:35 is a HUGE mistake. Baldwin IV was, indeed, the second and youngest son of King Amalric, but he was not, by any possible means, the younger brother of Baldwin III, since Baldwin III was actually Amalric's older brother (in shorter words, Baldwin III was the paternal uncle of Baldwin IV). Baldwin's older sister was Sibylla, future Queen of Jerusalem after her brother's untimely death in 1185, and her own son's (Baldwin V) in 1186.
That guy was simply amazing! Despite having such terrible disease and having responsibility to protect such fragile state, dude managed to be very succesfull.
