Back in the old days we had sealed beam glass head lights. They burned out every few years and you just replaced them for about $15 bucks. No leaking, no yellowing etc. Now we have advanced technology and everything sucks.
Just got some aftermarket lights for my Silverado and a few people were saying to add some silicone to keep moisture out. Wasn't sure exactly what to do so this video really helped me. Thx
this is what I will be doing this weekend. the aftermarket headlights I bought wasn't sealed well and condensation occurred. such an ugly thing to see and annoying AF. this time I'll be adding a sealant prior to installing a new aftermarket headlights which I should have done to begin with. Update: Quick and easy to apply the sealant thanks for the video
Pro tip i got from Sweet Project Cars channel, you can pour 90% isopropyl alcohol in the headlight swish it around and pour it out a couple times and then it will dry alot faster. Nice video though. Those led lights from walmart are awesome
@@TheBryeguy Good chance it's the bulbs then if you haven't changed any of the wiring. Try a set of different bulbs, or put your OEM bulbs back in, and see if it happens again. Weird that it's only happening on the driver side.
Good lookin' job. Liked your slow and steady approach to drying out the lights. Makes for a less stressful correction.👍👍👍👍 😀 'course if it had been me I'd a just drilled two holes in the bottom of the front lens and let the rain water drip out......Saves me buyin' silly-cone 😁😁😁
I just wanted to make sure these lights were completely dry because it's just a hassle to deal with. I breathe a sigh of relief every time I walk to my truck to check for any moisture.
I watch and thoroughly enjoy all of your videos and you know what I just realized now? Doesn't it drive you crazy to have such an awesome truck sit out on the elements and even worse how do you stand all those people parking right next to you. How do you keep it free of door dings?
Thanks for watching David! Not having a garage drives me crazy for a ton of reasons. Thankfully my sliders stick out far enough along the sides to keep the door dingers away. 😀
Can that strip of silicone easily come off? It would’ve been a good idea to tape around the edge and quickly pull it off after you’ve applied the silicone to get a flush finish.
Own a 2013 fordfocus that are retrofitted and I made the guy seal them 2 times and still allowing water to get inside 😳 now I'm here going to do it myself. Well try
A few local guys here have purchased all kinds of aftermarket lights, even some cheap ebay specials, and they added their own silicone sealer to them and haven't had any issues. 👍
Hey man I was going to ask you about your demon eye switchback on your projectors. Can you have the color on while the actual HID is on or does your HID have to be off to be able to see the color on the switchback. I'm asking because my truck has daytime runners and Id have to do some rewiring if there can't be another light on for the colored leds to be visible.
Hey buddy, I always get the terminology wrong but I think the demon eye is where the light is on the inside of the projector lens. The ones I have light up a halo around the projector lens.
Tacomaholic Thanks for the info, I guess a simpler way to put my question is if your headlights are on can you still see the color? Or does your main light need to be in the off position in order for the color to come through?
The water gets in from the igniter, 90% of the time. I’m still trying to figure out how to prevent that! The rubber itself is not enough with the pressure build in the engine bay while going on the freeway so it finds its way in!
Hi sir, i have a couple of questions. 1. How come your Amazon link for the silicone gel sealant is different from what you used in the video? 2. Did you end up needing 2 tubes to seal a pair of headlights?
@@Tacomaholic the one from the video I can easily get from my local Home Depot. The Amazon link silicone I have to get from Amazon. I was wondering if the Auto/Marine silicone is more meant for headlights. Also, I need to do 2 pairs of aftermarket headlights. Do you think 1 tube will be enough?
Sir, I forgot to ask you how's your headlights after applying the silicone sealant? I just realized your video was 2 years old. Still no issues with condensation up until this day?
Tons of fun. I got the headlight seated and the bulbs installed then it started raining again. So I waited for the rain to stop before going back out to tighten down the 3 bolts holding the headlight in. Mother nature is always against me.
awesome video! I'll keep it in mind just in case my aftermarket tail lights start to pose issues. Re- I finally got my tailgate repaired and have my tailgate reinforcement steel on the way. Thanks a ton @Tacomaholic for the suggestion. TW post coming up in the next few days of my progress Btw, ever heard of anyone having luck with roll on bed liner to coat their composite bed? mines totally faded out and gouged up.
I'm hoping so. I cant seem to find any who have done it on TW for opinions but my expectations are as you said. I just wonder if I should go Rhino-liner or rustoleum. hmm
I live in the desert mountains, we don't have humidity or corrosion problems...The silicon packets won't make the water disappear and they will only absorb so much, so you might have to check them once in a while....Hope your neighbors don't open their doors on your truck, Sardineville...I know you have sliders but some doors are still high enough to hit your paint (wrap)...You took your eyelids off.
I would leave them black, it gives your truck added texture and not just a smooth look...I am surprised you don't have a dash mat or seat covers...I took the bottoms of the back seat out of my truck for more room for my gear and dogs when I drive to Alaska...I would like to find some kind of storage box that would fit across the back where the seats were bolted...The back of the seats I protect so my dogs can go between the cab and my camper shell with the windows open...I like your rack but I have a camper shell on my bed...I have 3 rotopax mounted to the front of the bed (water, fire starting and storage), a shovel and Fiskars Splitting Ax like yours mounted to the liner and a DeeZee box with some of my other gear in it...I ordered a bracket like you have for your ditch lights but I think I want to put a cb antenna on it...I am glad I found your channel I have added some of the smaller mods from your videos to my truck but won't be adding lights, electrical, lifts and armor to my truck because I don't know what kind of shape it will be in when I get back from Prudhoe Bay.
I have resealed mine 3 times now. Yet, water is getting inside the assembly. The cost for my headlight assembly new is $1600 dealership only. No aftermarket. Junkyard cost is $900. I'm mad as hell at the manufacturer of this crap.
Tacomaholic very! Hey don’t leak as bad but enough to where I will fix them. And my rack came in I love it! Oh what do I use for a mount with your rescue buddy’s I have the same ones
Did you get a KB Voodoo rack? Before I just had by escaper buddies strapped to the top of my rack, but I plan on doing a vid showing how to make a better mount for it.
Tacomaholic i do have the kB VooDoo rack. My maxtrax are mounted with the maxtrax pins but I don’t have anything for my maxxas traxs. I also have prinsu rack coming this week witch it where will be mounting both tracks too
Looking at the date of this video, my suggestion is probably a day late and a dollar short, but, when one is wanting to smooth out silicon, wetting your finger makes a smoother finish, AND keeps the stuff from sticking to your skin so much. Otherwise, a helpful video. I'm gonna do the same to my 2011 Taco. Winters here in the PNW are soggy, to say the least.
You should put the builder of those retros on blast so everyone else can avoid him!
Oh that video is coming as well as a "vender review" thread for Tacomaworld. 😀👍
They all come from china and they all have issues with sealing. Doing this procedure should be done anytime you buy new aftermarket housings.

They burned out every few years and you just replaced them for about $15 bucks.

Hmm I wonder if that would be a good way to clean the inside clear plastic as well because I do have a few water spots in there.
Probably would help
Used some flex seal on my mother's RAV4, that stuff actually holds so good. Good tutorial man
Yep there are a ton of different sealers you could use. 😀
Shoutout to my silica packet recommendation on TW :D Glad this headache is over!
Climate the same at the moment here in the UK. Watched the video, worked a treat ! Thx
Ugh, Same weather here in SW Arkansas. Im glad we arent so dang dry but, we have enough water now. Time for some sun!!
Yeah seems like half the country is covered in rain lately. Bring on the sun! 😀
silica packets is an awesome tip I will definitely try that!
Have you heard of the driver headlight low beam burning out every few months? It only driver side, both sides were changed at the same time.
No haven't heard that one before. Stock bulbs and stock housing?

okay guys. easiest way. Bake them in the oven for 20 mins at 220f. they will be super dry. Trust me, I do retrofitting for a living
Keeping them dry is the trick sometimes.
So miss tacomaholic didn’t make you stop uploading after all! That must mean she didn’t figure the price of the wrap haha!

car's a nice color.
Perfect timing! I'm dealing with this right now.
😀 Just make sure you use plenty of sealer and you'll be fine.
Good deal. Just have to wait on this rain to stop first.
Lol yeah I had to run outside to re-install my headlight during a 10 minute lull in the rain here.
