Truckers have badly aimed lights as well - I drive across a province fairly regularly at night, and the amount of times i get blinded by big rigs is horrible. I think this issue effects everyone and yet no one does this or takes it to a shop to get done.
I apologize to every driver out there, they’re manufacturing these new pickup trucks with poorly adjusted overly bright lights… will be adjusting. Thanks for the video.

Well done Sir, straight to the point, 8.3 minutes full of vital information. Every man should understand these golden rules. Thanks for teaching us! God bless you!
Be sure to think about Flat and Level. Most garages have a several inch drop over 20', and many change pitch in the driveway. So, not only is your vehicle angled, but it's lower when it's backed up than when parked 3' from the wall. I haven't found anything nearby that I would consider level over the 40-ish feet needed to back up and do this correctly. Most parking lots are sloped for runoff.
It probably doesn't matter if it's a slope though. What would matter is if there's a bump and it's not flat. So it has to be flat but it doesn't have to be level. Because if it's flat and a slope you're beams are going to travel straight towards that wall. I'm trying to think it through my head right now and I think that's right.
This really helped me. I had just replaced my headlights and didn't even know that they had to be in a particular position. Needless to say, I had them sideways. I immediately corrected them after watching this video. Thank you!
I rebuilt the headlights on my 2003 M5 with new adjusters and stock bulbs. I went by your guide to readjust them and it came out great. Great vision without blinding oncoming drivers. Thanks.
Excellent video guys! I’ve been blinded by many non-stock bulbs and this type of video is just what people need to know regarding purchase and alignment. As a result of this video I need to check MY LED headlights alignment! Thanks
Own a 2002 GMC Sierra 1500HD SLE Crewcab and replace the original lens with new ones. Took my truck to the dealership to have the lens realigned. I was told to bring it back, if I had a problem seeing when driving at night. I still was having trouble seeing at night, but I didn't take it back. After doing some exhausted research, I decided to buy your lights. Received and installed your 9005/HB3 and 9006/HB4 LEDs that I love. The lighting was still out of alignment. The video you produced on aiming and aligning your headlights was very informative and helpful. After marking off the garage door, I should see how far off my headlights were. I corrected both lens with the adjustment points on the lens. Thanks to video, I can safely drive at night with no fear of seeing things on the roadway too late.
I’m really glad I ordered my gtr2 leds from you guys. Not only did your videos help me decide what brand to buy, but now that I installed them the aftermarket headlights I have were set super low. Yet again your videos saved the day. Thanks!
Great video. I recently replaced my headlight housings, as my old ones were very milky and cloudy, and cleaning really didn’t improve light output. Well once I installed the new one the light output was much greater, but I noticed my beam was aimed too low to the street limiting my light output distance greatly. Once I adjusted them following you method, it made such a world of a difference with road visibility. I barely have to cut on my high beams unless I’m on a really dark country road. Your instructions were very clear and concise.
Something else that might be a good topic would be aftermarket replacement lenses as I’ve had back luck with some getting proper beam patters and adjustments. Just an idea 🤷🏻♂️
This video should be made mandatory for all tradies who own 4X4 and SUV's to watch, the amount of those drop kicks that blind you because of incorrectly aimed headlights because of the excessive weight carried in the vehicle is phenomenal.
I think you mean office workers with mall crawlers; Tradies dont really bother with washing their work vehicles, much less replace the stock headlight bulbs 😂
I recently upgraded my low beams on my 2007 Mercury Milan to the new GTR Ultra Lighting 2, and I am AMAZED! I absolutely love how bright they are. Thanks Headlight Revolution for selling them to me!
Well explained indeed as others wrote. Important points made of poor technology bulbs and poorly aimed bulbs as they can cause road hazards for others, if not yourself included. This is an essential "safety" type video as I see it for those who upgrade or DIY in general. I'm happy to say I purchased your LED bulbs in 2020 for my 2020 Chevy 2500HD from here in central Alberta, and ... wow, what a bright, non-scattered light beam. Completely satisfied and recommend you to others. Great work; keep it up!! Will be back when I need some for other vehicles ort should I have to replace.
I’ve been telling people this technique since the mid 80’s when I installed a pair of hella H4 bulbs in the headlight. I loved the cats eye effect from the beam to light up the right side for the street signs. Still have them on my 86 mustang..
My new Toyota Corolla headlights were just honestly aimed too low. I felt that I wouldn’t be able to see an incoming deer or person on the highway that was further than 500 feet away. I decided to raise the headlights. Did it a little too much at first but then backed it down and am at a happy medium where I can see and there doesn’t seem to be many people being blinded by me either. Sometimes I think factory lights are just too low
Hey, thanks for this detailed of aiming your headlights. I've seen plenty of videos explaining this procedure but none comes close to this. Thanks again 🙂
Simple and easy to follow, thank you! I watched 8 videos at least before this one and this was the only video that made the whole process easy to understand and follow.
Thank you. This was very helpful. Honestly, it feels like at least 20% of new vehicles on the road are poorly aimed straight from the factory. 2017-2019 Toyota Corollas always seem to blind me with their factory LED headlights. Doesn't seem to matter if I'm in a taller SUV or my Miata. Thank god the IIHS added headlight testing to their safety rating a few years ago. Hopefully the offending manufacturers will take the safety of oncoming drivers seriously. Honda seems to do the best job of making new vehicles with well-aimed headlights.
Thank you so much for this video! I tried to find vehicle specific instructions but that’s next to none for a Buick Regal haha. Just recently replaced the actual headlight housing due to water damage and decided to upgrade to LEDs while I was at it but I noticed when I first took it for a drive that the new headlight was aimed wayyyyyy too high. I’d rather get it done for free than have some mechanic charge $$$ for it and I’m so grateful for this! Now I won’t have the guilt of blinding other drivers 😅
I’m getting new headlights on my truck this Tuesday coming up so this video was a lot of help. Thanks for making it. Hopefully I don’t have to adjust them but if I do I can watch this again.
I have the same quandary. Unless you have a ginormous garage, you're stuck because every outdoor place abutting a wall either has a sidewalk on it, or is angled for drainage.
Very good informational video! I installed LED’s in my 2019 Colorado Crew Cab 4x4, V6, WT, that only comes with reflector type headlights, I knew enough about headlights and aiming them along with light patterns to know I needed something special to do so. In my research I found just the thing I’m surprised you never mentioned. The brand I found out about at the time over 2 years ago was MORIMOTO TWO STROKE 2.0, H11 for low, that I will explain because their the ones you always have on, so you need to be able to aim correctly and control the illumination reflected out and down the road, so you don’t blind oncoming drivers. See they are designed so once you get them mounted without their sockets, you can still twist them so the led elements on the opposing sides are facing side to side! Then once you are all done you must re-aim them correctly. In the time since I have never been flashed, even when I tow my 27’ travel trailer! But the improvement in illumination of the roadway is absolutely amazing!! Especially with both high and low beams on!
Thanks a lot, I had to adjust mine after getting my car brand new from the factory. When I did the measurements and marking I backed up 25ft and come to find out the headlight cutoff was 12 inches higher than the marking below the 2inch line. Adjusted them and no more flashes at night. Interesting how I had to adjust them myself.
Glad to hear that were able to help out! You'd be surprised by the amount of brand new vehicles that come off the lot with improperly aligned headlights. It's way too many!
@@HeadlightRevolution I think it's because this step adds too much time for the manufacturer to do properly coming off the assembly line with sufficiently knowledgeable QA personnel and is hard to automate.
Thanks for the video, helped me aim my lights after I leveled my truck. They had to come down quite a bit. I'm surprised you mentioned some LEDs work well as halogen replacements.. I was always under the impression LEDs, just like HIDs, require a projector rather than a reflector housing to be used correctly. Installing them in reflector type housings that halogens are found in usually create a ton of glare with no distinct cutoff. Interested in your thoughts on this...
Yea many of the retrofit LEDs (well, most) just turn the headlights in to basically flood lights. They look brighter but they don't project properly so you actually get LESS range.
I put in some led bulbs on a 2014 crv and both seem to be pointing to the right. These led light bulbs are designed to fit 1:1 replacement for halogen bulbs. They fit in nicely with the two smaller tabs on bottom and wider one on top. Not sure what can even be adjusted after that. Maybe some screw somewhere I need to mess with. Or maybe just try to dangle the bulbs a bit to the left before tightening.
Last but not least, i recommend looking at the car with the new LED from a different car, and see whether it's blinding or not. Preferably, use a sedan since they are lower than SUVs. We recently installed some LEDs, followed the adjustments steps, measurements, and so forth... But they were hella blinding when i drove across them in another car. Had to lower them an additional 2-3 inches
Excellent, foolproof idea to measure to the lamps center line and use painters tape as a reference. Watched so many videos of people just measuring off an imaginary line halfway up their garage but this is a much better way. Thank you!
Agreed everyone who drives needs to see this video. Especially if someone drives with led lights. I make the argument that blue colored light appears brighter than the normal yellow or orange light from a typical halogen. If there are orange or yellow headlight leds out there, I’d be interested in seeing how that would look.
I have a nice set of ice blue led headlights that are not as bright as halogen, but they are more designed to highlight the road markings, reflective materials, license plates, ect. I even had someone stand in front of both types of lights, and even he said that the LEDs I have installed are easier on the eyes and even the brights are not blinding in any way. The color temp of the LEDs are 8000k, but so far they have proven to be better in every way over the BLINDING white LEDs.
What we are forgetting here is the mismatch between vehicles. No amount of adjustment in a truck is going to prevent blinding me in my Ford Focus, and since every other vehicle on the road is a pickup OR SUV, and presents a danger to ME, why should I have to worry about the after market (cheap) LEDs in MY Focus having a bad beam pattern? Obviously, I will NOT be blinding the truck or SUV driver! So, what's the BIG DEAL?

Thank you very much! After watching your headlight shootout and buying some GTR Ultra 2.0s, I knew you would have the best instructions for aiming them. Mine are a bit high, but I never noticed because my old bulbs were so dim. Keep up the good work!
The more you know! Wow! Thank you for this very informative video. I’ll be looking in to utilizing what you shared with our two vehicles with newer lighting tech.
I purchased some LED headlamps from NAPA for my classic car. Unlike the generic LED's shown, I'm thinking mine are probably more suited to not blind oncoming drivers at night. I will use this tutorial to aim mine. Thanks.
Yup! Two inches is the magic number. (If only women felt the same 😅) I just adjusted my lights and it clearly makes a difference for me, and from what I can see, for others. My lights do not look like they're in other drivers line of sight. Thanks again for the info!
Stop using the standard 2" & 4" drop, these elevations change according to light height. States have min and max projection distances for the low beam. generally 135' minimum and 200' maximum. If you use the 2" drop @ 25' on headlights that are 42" you'll projected the beam @ 520' and not the state maximum. STOP BLINDING OTHER DRIVERS . 42" height @ 25' should be 5.25". Use the formula (42/200)x25=5.25" below center line. ( bulb centerline / light projection feet ) x the distance you are projecting it to ( test wall, test board or other ) it could be anywhere from 10 feet to 50 feet. Fog lights have a maximum of 135' projection, so get those adjusted correctly too.
I have a 2023 rav4 and I think my lights are off the hot spot is high and there's no visibility on the lower like seeing obstacles on the road can the be fixed?
Absolutely! Have you tried adjusting the OEM Headlights yet to see how high they're currently sitting? If you're not comfortable adjusting lights, an OEM Toyota dealership or local shop can help!
Super helpful thank you! My headlamps have left right adjusters too. Do you know any guidelines for where I should be aiming with each relative to the vertical centre line tape, again at a set distance? Thanks!
This definitely helped i was lighting up miles of highway signs for everyone in front and behind me people driving on the other side of the road is always flashing their headlights to turn my brights off and i don't even have them on.... so a big Thanks...lol
LED bulbs get a bad reputation because most people don't do the research to figure out what bulbs are good and how to aim them. Most bulbs on the market are trash, and this channel is a great place to find out what works. Personally, as an affordable option, I really like my $40 Hikari bulbs in my Mazda 3. The chips mimic the placement and size of the original halogen filament, and they're much brighter. Beam pattern is just like the OEM halogen. I verified they were aimed correctly and after a month's worth of night time driving, not one driver has flashed me.
Glad that you found this video helpful, it is crazy how many people do not align their headlights when they get them installed! Let us know if you have any other questions or concerns, we are here to help!
I bought hikaris h1 bulbs but the beam pattern is all off.. I can’t correct it with the adjusters on the actual headlight assembly and I can’t change the position of the h1 bulbs unlike the hb3’s I have for my brights as the h1 can only sit one way and cannot be rotated.. am I missing something?
It’s also okay to spend a day and do a proper refinish of the external housings: 600 800 1000 1500 3m polish with buffer alcohol wipe meguairs headlight spray. Do that first before you run out for new bulbs. The headlight restoration pro has the best how to
Great video I guess you can also do this by marking where you original headlight bulbs illuminate on the wall and using that as a reference to adjust the led lights when installed .
I have a 2014 Cadillac srx, these cars are equipped with a very poor and dangerous running lights, have you tested a lightbulb that will greatly improve the lights. The bright lights are perfect, but the running lights are dangerous for driving at night, hope you can help and advise which bulb will correct this problem, thanks. Ron.
Great video, but you continue with Dodge and Ram pickup trucks. I have a Ford Edge which has projector head mounts. I just want installed Led lights low/high beam however, my drivers side has a black shadow towards the middle of the SUV and the passenger side projects evenly. How can I adjust my drivers side light to where it is evenly aligned with the passenger side. Thank you
What kind of LED bulbs did you install? And did you install them correctly? Low quality LEDs can create really poor beam patterns. Check out this video: th-cam.com/video/NbfAyqVgVdM/w-d-xo.html
I’m about to buy an LED replacement for my 01 Lexus rx 300, it has auto adjustment low beams while driving to not blind people. Would I have to do any different postion or aligning?
Hello Headlight Revolution I just found your channel and subscribed. I have a 2001 Nissan Frontier pickup whose headlights are very dim. The lens are foggy as well. What headlight bulb should I use? I am looking for adequate lighting so other drivers and I are safe. Again thank you
Hello George! Sure thing, I can help! My first recommendation would be to de-fog your headlight lenses so the light can easily pass through your headlight lens. This should help with overall output and beam pattern development! Link: www.amazon.com/SYLVANIA-Headlight-Restoration-Headlights-Protection/dp/B00429NKWK As for a headlight upgrade, here is everything we know works well in your Frontier! My personal recommendation would be the S-V.4 LED bulbs! Link: www.headlightrevolution.com/buyer-guide-by-vehicle/2001+Nissan+Frontier Let us know if you have any more questions! I just upgraded my headlights to Morimoto XB LED Gen2 on my Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road. The beam pattern is not even all the way across for both lights when I back up to 25 feet. Also , how can I find this in owners manual if I upgraded to LED lights ? Should I just adjust the beam to the measurement from ground ? This is very hard to figure out if I have upgraded to lights that I can not change bulbs. The Morimoto lights I have are projector lights. How to do it with projector lights ?
Your Morimoto XB headlights are LED! There is no bulbs to replace on those housings at all, it is all built in like an OEM LED headlight. Projector headlight adjustment instructions will be the same as found here! It sounds like your beam pattern is too close together and just needs some slight adjustments to properly perform. There is adjustments on the backside of the headlights that you can use to adjust where you need them! Please email us if you'd like some assistance! Sales@HeadlightRevolution.com
That was very informative on the proper aiming of low beam headlights. Now, what is the proper procedure for aiming headlights that have separate high beams?

I was always under the impression LEDs, just like HIDs, require a projector rather than a reflector housing to be used correctly. Installing them in reflector type housings that halogens are found in usually create a ton of glare with no distinct cutoff. Interested in your thoughts on this...
We would be happy to go into more detail for you. Shoot us an email at Sales@headlightrevolution.com
Yea many of the retrofit LEDs (well, most) just turn the headlights in to basically flood lights. They look brighter but they don't project properly so you actually get LESS range.
There are a ton of cars that come with halogen projectors and I feel this is aimed for that. LED's in a reflector would be a bad idea.
Thank you thank you THANK YOU for the video ! Now, how do we get everyone to watch this?
That is what I am wondering, because this should be mandatory for everyone, even lifted trucks with factory halogens!😄
@@HeadlightRevolution Adjusting the lights on a truck (lifted or NOT) is a moot point if he is coming toward you and you are in a car!
This is a great suggestion!
Thank you so much for this how-to video. 👍🏼
Not a problem my man, glad we could help!
Excellent, foolproof idea to measure to the lamps center line and use painters tape as a reference.
Watched so many videos of people just measuring off an imaginary line halfway up their garage but this is a much better way.
Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Love this channel 💯
Thank you!
Agreed everyone who drives needs to see this video. Especially if someone drives with led lights. I make the argument that blue colored light appears brighter than the normal yellow or orange light from a typical halogen. If there are orange or yellow headlight leds out there, I’d be interested in seeing how that would look.
There are some yellow LED bulbs on the market, we have a few available!
The color temp of the LEDs are 8000k, but so far they have proven to be better in every way over the BLINDING white LEDs.
pro tip if 90% of all oncoming traffic flashes with high beam its proberly too far up xd
Very true!!!
Thank you! This video should have billions of views!
🙏
What we are forgetting here is the mismatch between vehicles. No amount of adjustment in a truck is going to prevent blinding me in my Ford Focus, and since every other vehicle on the road is a pickup OR SUV, and presents a danger to ME, why should I have to worry about the after market (cheap) LEDs in MY Focus having a bad beam pattern? Obviously, I will NOT be blinding the truck or SUV driver! So, what's the BIG DEAL?
After working with many different vehicle types you would be supris3ed how some cars can still blind trucks from light scatter.
So if I’m hearing you correctly I should be able to turn my bright lites on and not blind people… corrrect?
Now I just need to find a 25ft space and wall to aim 🤦
Try a parking deck, those are useful.
Most Informative and Excellent Video! Thank You
Audi’s be blinding everyone tho!
They’ll have you wearing sunglasses at night 😎
I own a 2012 VW cc 2.0t sport my right passenger low beam bulb went out I’m trying to upgrade to a hid/led what do you guys recommend me buying ??

40 years ago I bought some Cibie' halogen H4 headlights. The instructions said to have a 3" drop in 25'
That wasn't the point but go off, Doug 😉
And every truck owner needs to see this!
Thank you very much! After watching your headlight shootout and buying some GTR Ultra 2.0s, I knew you would have the best instructions for aiming them. Mine are a bit high, but I never noticed because my old bulbs were so dim. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the instruction. Do you treat high beams the same height as low beams?
Yes! Your High beams will take a similar aim as your Low beams do.
Does this rule of measurements apply the same for lowered cars as well? I lowered my Honda Civic 2 inches lowered than stock. Thanks!
Thanks.
Happy to help.
Yup! Two inches is the magic number. (If only women felt the same 😅)
I just adjusted my lights and it clearly makes a difference for me, and from what I can see, for others.
@lionelanderson4246 duely noted 😅
What about the horizontal position adjustment
This comes down to preference but generally the hotspots should be the same distance apart as the headlights.
Where should your internal adjustment switch be set at when doing this?
I'd assume at its highest, I don't know 🤷🏼♂️
Does anyone know please.
Extremely useful tips, the little ones you can easily forget. Thanks!
You're welcome!
Thank you! this video is really informative and I wish all drivers learned this in their License test.
Glad it was helpful!
What would you recommend for a
2017 Toyota 4Runner SR5 for a headlight bulbs low beam
Felt greatful to watch this video and gain the knowledge. Love from India❤
Thank you!
Figured it out.. gotta buy some cheap h1 led adapters that allow the bulb to rotate to desired position.
Nice!
It’s also okay to spend a day and do a proper refinish of the external housings: 600 800 1000 1500 3m polish with buffer alcohol wipe meguairs headlight spray.
Do that first before you run out for new bulbs. The headlight restoration pro has the best how to
Does same measurement formula apply to semi trucks? Do I pull up 3 feet from the wall, measure and then pull back 25 feet like you do with cars?
Yes, it sure does!
thx... as owner of ford focus mk1 facelift , i finaly set my HL correctly ( czech republic/europe)
Nice!
Shoul u be on high beam or low beam when doing this?
Low beam
What LED light would you recommend for a 2015 Mazda3 hatchback
Great video I guess you can also do this by marking where you original headlight bulbs illuminate on the wall and using that as a reference to adjust the led lights when installed .
Just changing a bulb out isn't going to change where the lights are aimed unless you unbolt the headlight.

Have you tested HID or LED against a halogen 130 watt h4 in a reflector housing?
Not specifically a 130w, we have done some side by side testing though!
@@HeadlightRevolution any higher power than 55/60w really. I see comparison to Osram and Philips 55/60 but nothing higher
I’m about to buy an LED replacement for my 01 Lexus rx 300, it has auto adjustment low beams while driving to not blind people. Would I have to do any different postion or aligning?
No you would not, adjustments will still be the same
Thank you for this vid tutorial. I just learned it now on how to adjust the headlight on my unit with LED upgrade.
You are very welcome!
Good video sir but is there any way to adjust the headlights in a 2020 Silverado hd?
There should be an OEM adjustment.
Is there an adjustment screw to move the beam left or right? (2008 Camry Hybrid)
From what I'm seeing, there is no side to side adjustment on these.
Hello Headlight Revolution
I just found your channel and subscribed.

As for a headlight upgrade, here is everything we know works well in your Frontier! My personal recommendation would be the S-V.4 LED bulbs!

Thanks for a great video. Not sure if I heard it but when you back up your vehicle ~25' shouldn't it be on a level surface?
That is correct!
Is there a way to adjust headlight beam on 2014 edge, from LEFT TO RIGHT, already know how to do up& down
There may be another adjustment screw on the back, this would be for horizontal adjustment!
I just did mine for my new headlight housings. Thank you very much for this tutorial.
No problem!
That was very informative on the proper aiming of low beam headlights. Now, what is the proper procedure for aiming headlights that have separate high beams?
Glad it helped!
For the high beams theses should overlap with the low beams about 25% of the way!
@@HeadlightRevolution so the high beams lower part overlaps with the 25% top of the low beams and the remaining 75% is above them? Is that right?
