I have a 2011 TRD sport and my grill lifts straight up for bottom removal FYI. Glad I looked first! There is one tab on each bottom corner that you use a flat screwdriver to push tab in to release bottom of grill and pull straight up.
Once you remove the grill is it easy to remove the grill emblem as well? Mine has Plasti Dip on it and that Plasti Dip is peeling horribly. Bought it used 3 sep so had mods done to it. 2012 Tacoma Prerunner V6 if you need to know.

@@Tacomaholic got all the way to the last screw on the inside (that you said would be a pain) and didn't have a thin enough ratchet (which i think i recall you said might be the case).. i considered going through the fender but wasn't confident enough in my car know-how to not F something up... going to look up a few more videos on taking off the fender and see if i can't do it that way. everything else went smoothly though

Sure thing! Just give the TRD part a very light sanding and tape off everything else. That brake caliper paint goes on nice and thick so 2 coats should be plenty.

how the hell were you able to just punch out the tabs on the bottom? mine seems super stuck. There is a large visible tab on both sides, in addition to 6 tabs on the bottom. Yours just slides out?! Blasphemy!
Were you able to separate the chrome piece from the rest of of it? For easier painting. I'm going to be re-doing mine with bed liner as well. I went the derp route and it's looking rough.
I broke a plastic thingy when I removed my grill. I now own 450 plastic thingies from Amazon and none of them fit my grill. I forced a 1/4" bolt to hold the grill and am searching for a new plastic holder.
Okay people, please do not hit it. There are tabs lining the bottom of the grill that you can fully reach and push on one at a time. If you hit these you could break them.
holy crap those plastic fake screw things ARE a total nightmare to remove!!!! just did it last night. despite a screwdriver they like to bend all over the place instead of popping up. then getting it back in was holy hell!! i pushed i pounded it i pushed some more. over 10 min of struggling. idiotic- why doesn’t toyota ditch those damn things and have 4 screws!?!? helpful video though thanks!

Tacomaholic honestly not much because the truck was preowned , but mainly new ! Well taken care of. Has side steps will change that soon to sliders, has a foldable hard cover on the bed good for my firearms when transporting, does have a neat combination safe in the center console ! Which I really like. But I want a lift and bigger tires for sure , was thinking about the steel rear bumper you have. Good info on the bull bar changed my mind real quick lol. Might plasti dip the chrome grill like you did 👍your videos give me so much ideas! Impressive work man !
Tacomaholic have tooken it out off roading doing some steep hills and mountain hill climbing to really test out the truck and love It ! So can't wait to do upgradable off road mods to see it's full potential 😎
Ah gotcha. I've seen insert kits for that part where other guys just end up cutting it out. I'll take a peek tomorrow because I can't remember if it's actually clipped in or glued in.
This does not work for a 2012. I have more clips on the bottom than you do. Please specify the your exact year model so people don't break things trying to "just pop it off" when there are additional clips.

Yes this is a stock grill but I'm not sure what the part number is.
Did you re-tighten the two screws to a specific torque spec?
No, tightening those top screws until is just starts to feel tight in the plastic is good.
Can anyone tell me the size of those two philips head screws or where to find them? My truck seems to be missing them.
The two holding the top of the grill have a 10mm head. Your local Toyota dealership probably has them.

I've seen the newer 2nd Gen front ends added to the earlier 2nd Gen trucks (including headlights) but I don't think it's a direct bolt on.

true! The video is misleading. You can’t hit the bottom to release that little tab. You have to find it and down press it to get the grill released.

Early second generation tacomas you can't remove the center part of the grill from the surround with out cutting it out
Yeah a guy on TW said the tabs were a little different, but you actually have to cut stuff to be able to remove the grill on the 05-11 Tacomas??
