      That's my favorite Disney sequel, it made something great out of the plain boring story of the original. It being basically a reboot of Cinderella and her having to actually work for her happy ending was fantastic, there was a lot of dark themes in that movie that shocked me. The demonic pumpkin carriage was creepy as hell, especially Cinderella being driven to her death. It made her one of my favorite Disney Princesses where I couldn't care less about her before.

      @@heartless2147 Yes the movie was amazing. We got to know the prince character better. Cinderella showed us that she is strong woman which can get what she want on her own without magic(that movie made her my favourite princess). And i just love Anastasia redemption and her relationship with Cinderella. Yes the movie had it dark side and last there was more chemistry between the prince and Cinderella.

    Some people who ship Wendy and Peter try to bash the sequel and Jane, but she was well written and developed through the story wonderfully. Wendy did not have that in the original, Mulan II was a disgrace to Shang, it was out of character for him to just explode like that instead of simply speaking to Mulan and in the original Mulan was VERY traditional and believed in upholding honor for herself and her family. Cinderella 3 a twist in time was a quirky fun time and Henry jumping out the window? Hilarious.

      Though I do agree with this list that it is definitely #2 of this list, I must say when I was growing up Jane always came across as a spoilt brat, without character progression. I do have to revisit it though to see how I would feel about it nowadays...

    • @wonderingmind8547
      @wonderingmind8547 4 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      @@RuuBjAh1 That's because you were a kid, I thought it too when I was little but I liked her towards the end. Now as an adult I see that Jane was asked by her father to take care of her mother and brother before he was enlisted for WWII. Most kids wouldn't understand a situation like this without experiencing it, so we saw a spoiled child, but in reality Jane focused so hard on being an adult because her world was falling apart and she was trying to keep it together.
      Which is why Wendy upset me in the movie, yes Jane was wrong for how she was acting, but as a mother she wasn't being very comforting to Jane. The war was affecting everyone and just telling stories about a carefree boy in a magical world isn't always going to help. But that's just how I saw it.

      @@TheFangirlWatches Idk I think they wanted to build on the little bit of characterization they added in Cinderella 2 and make a proper sequel that also made the story a bit more exciting. It's kind of amending the plot holes in the original. The whole movie pokes fun at the simplicity of just putting on a shoe and getting married and then everything is somehow perfect and then makes the characters actually work for it.To me, it's how I view all the characters in Cinderella now lol

      The Little Mermaid 3 was originally going to be a sequel to TLM 2. Had that happened, we would've seen Melody as a teenager.

    • @vetarlittorf1807
      @vetarlittorf1807 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @Will N Actually, the original TLM3 was going to be about Eric, Ariel and Melody trapped on an adrift boat, accompanied by Sebastian and Ariel's sisters, while looking for a mystical white whale.
      But Disney ordered the script to be rewritten, supposedly because Ariel wouldn't have been in her mermaid form.

    • @vetarlittorf1807
      @vetarlittorf1807 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Will N I don't think that really fits with the rest of the franchise. And Melody chose to stay human in TLM2 because she realized being a mermaid didn't change who she is. So it wouldn't make sense for her to suddenly "become the new little mermaid."

      I agree. I had such a crush on Melody when I was a kid. I want Disney to bring her back for like a cartoon series taking place after Little Mermaid 2 or something, but they better not just make it to cash in on that crappy live action Little Mermaid remake that's being made. Cinderella 3: A Twist in Time. I realize that nothing can top the original like most Disney films, but I found it to be way better than most of the squeals we've gotten. Sure it's a little clunky at the beginning but once you get past the kind of awkward intro song, it's a pretty good ride. Plus Prince Charming got his own meme from the movie, that makes it way better than most. :)

    "Bambi II" might feel a bit sugarcoated compared to its predecessor, but I think it makes sense from a narrative standpoint. I mean, if the sequel stuck true to it's "life is harsh" theme and his father didn't bother raising him like stags in real-life, it's likely Bambi wouldn't have survived that winter season. But since he survives well into his adulthood in the first movie, we know someone had to have taken care of him.

They pretty much made her like Triton 2.0 with not letting her daughter explore the other world she longs to see.

      I have issues with it, but the biggest one is the situation with the wand.
      Now I understand this is more along the lines of head-cannon, but..... I always thought that magic came with a price, or needed to be balanced in one way or another. That would be the reason the spell only lasted to midnight, and because of the short time limit on it she was able to leave the glass slippers transformed as a gift to Cindy.
      (again, it's more like head-cannon)
      So it irks me to no end seeing Lady Tremaine use the wand over and over with absolutely no consequence.
      Even taking my explanations out doesn't make it better because the original spell had a time limit...... yet all these things Tremaine does lasts for however long she wants? Why don't they have time limits?
      Now it's not a bad sequel, and I have no problem with people saying they like it and put it on best disney sequel lists. There is no issue with that. I just can't get over the wand/magic conundrum.

    Ariel's beginning could have been decent to.. Pretty good if they'd had Ariel's mom die from being caught/killed by fisherman. It would have taken Triton's admittedly justified hatred for humans to a deeply personal level. And while we're at it, make Ariel's music teacher or whatever she was a pre-banished Ursula. Ursula mentioned she'd lived in the palace but was banished. Maybe have triton turn her into an octopus hag at night in private And give her the name "Ursula". Which could be some insult in atlantican like "disgrace" or something so ariel wouldn't recognize her. Then have it take place when Ariel is a small child so it feels like a "beginning" for the whole series. The movie writes itself, so i dunno how it came out so bad.

      The thing you mentioned about what Ursula’s origins should’ve been was what I always thought happened to the villain in the third movie ever since it first came out because 5 year old me had an active imagination. I genuinely thought she was a pre banished Ursula and when she was kicked out of the palace she was turned into an octopus (because magic) and changed her name to hide who she was before to anyone who might suspect things. A vengeful Ursula then went on to learn magic and used it to do harm to those who came to her seeking help in the name of getting revenge on Triton. When I found out that wasn’t the case a few years later I was disappointed

      And the way the movie has Peter and the Lost Boys get called out on for their antics, which didn’t happen in the original. Even Tink gets some character development in her grudge against Wendy. The key thing is character development, which follows an inverse path the original took. Wendy learned when it was time to grow up while Jane rediscovered her inner child, both becoming emotionally healthier people. Jane at the beginning of the movie was that person you spend time with on assignments but not socialising, but becomes someone who can accept a drink and not be a killjoy. The more problematic aspects of the original, like the murderous mermaids or just everything about the Indians is absent aside from a quick flight though the empty Indian camp. But before the script and storyboarding was finished, Disney ordered a whole rewrite from scratch. I don't know why they did that. The original concept actually sounded more interesting than a prequel about Ariel trying to lift a music ban.

    Ok.. what irks me about the “ Romance trope” of Mulan 2 is that they paired the soldiers off with the princesses, which I’m guessing is a no no in China.
    Maybe the 3 girls could of been hand maids for one princess who believed everything her father told her and after being around Mulan she stars to have doubts.....
    Well anything better then Eddie Murphy impersonation trying time break Mulan and Shang apart plot.

      You're right it was a big no no. Heck there's even a scene where one of the princesses shows her foot to her love interest. That is was a big no no in Chinese culture. Makes it seem like no one did the proper research for this movie.

      And you can feel that cheapness while watching it. The original Mulan took a lot of time to get the details as near perfect as possible, and 2 didn't even have someone vaguely familiar with Chinese culture consulting for them. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Most women wouldn't even expect to choose a husband because there was so much emphasis on matchmakers.

    The Tarzan series was called the legend of Tarzan and aired on ABC so it's no wonder you never heard of it. And the series was actually okay since it featured a lot of characters based from the world of Tarzan from the books. The only thing that makes it weaker then past Disney animated series based off films is that the animations a little weak and the original voice actors for many of the characters didn’t return.

    Hunchback 2 started production in 1997, same year as Lion King 2 started production. The latter was released to home media just a year later. Hunchback 2 on the other hand, didn’t get released until 2002. Even if it was sitting on the shelf for those 5 years, you’d think they could have at least taken the time to polish it a little bit before releasing it.

    I remember hating Pocahontas 2 when I saw it, but maybe I should give it another chance. Bambi 2 has always been my favorite Disney sequel. Most of the ones I've seen aren't really good or bad in my opinion. Just kind of there.
    I don't even remember how old I was when I saw Cinderella 2, but I remember freaking out over the mouse turning human. Which is weird because I like a lot of stories with shapeshifting and even use it in my fanfiction.
    Mulan 2 is poorly written in the sense that it leaves a lot of things unsolved. I think it's because of plans to make a 3rd one (which I'm not sure got canceled with other sequels like Dumbo 2, or just because hardly anybody liked this movie). To me, it's enjoyable, though a little cheesy (kind of like Descendents or something) and not comparable to the original. I just resolve all the issues with my fanfiction. Without a continuation, it doesn't work. I think it gets too much hate considering this, but I can see the concerns.

I think I already knew about the actual story when I saw the second one, but I guess after Disney changed it up so much, trying to go into the real story was totally unexpected. And then knowing she'd die soon after, I couldn't even make fanfiction about it. I actually remember waking up in the middle of the night freaked out because I was convinced that Mulan married John Rolfe instead of Shang.😆 I don't know why I got the movies mixed up but it was hilarious.

      @@TheFangirlWatches that’s actually what I do. No offense but Pocahontas 2 is easily by far the worst, infuriating and mostly insulting Disney sequel ever. DISNEY Pocahontas is her own character and I don’t think that’s fair to defend it because of “historical accuracy” could the original had a talking tree and spirit magic that fixed a language barrier issue. I do agree to a point Disney should NOT have used actual names, maybe Pocahontas and John Smith, but EVERYTHING else is different to make it stinking clear it is not based on Matoaka at all. Anyways aside Pocahontas is my 3rd favorite Disney movie and Pocahontas and John Smith are my favorite couple, I even tried watching it without being biased and she and John Rolfe just don’t have any chemistry at all until that HIDDEN ballgown she’s stuffed into. He is easily my most hated Disney character ever along with annoying Ms. Jenkins, omg what an annoying person. I’m actually rewriting both parts of Pocahontas along with a mini series after she becomes Pocahontas Smith, fight me. They go on a few adventures around the world and have twin daughters, a blonde with brown eyes and a black with blue eyes. Sorry but for me Pocahontas is just a Disney character and in their version she doesn’t die in her early 20’s. If anything it really infuriated me Disney made the sequel to be more accurate considering they made it clear several times before the original came out it was NOT a retelling of her actual story, considering it’d be rated R if they used even 1/16 of the actual story. The sequel is hardly more accurate considering how much they chose to keep out: Rebecca Rolfe, Thomas Rolfe, converting to Christianity and dying before she could even return to her homeland, not to mention her marriage to John Rolfe was actually a political marriage because she was a chief’s daughter and it was for whatever peace the English “promised” if anything Rolfe was a very mean man and not a good husband either if I remember correctly, so sugarcoating her marriage is even more sickening than romantically Pocahontas and John Smith considering 1 Disney wasn’t the first production to do so: Popeye Wigwam Whoopee, and 2 Even if he completely lied about her, I find it very hard to believe she’d want to reconnect with him if he was so terrible towards her, considering I read he was actually opposed to violence towards the natives and actually taught her about the Christian God.
      Note I even read about the real Pocahontas before I got to watch it so it wasn’t too big of a shock for me. I’d rather be in love with two characters who knew they were supposed to hate each other because they came from completely different worlds but they fell in love because of their differences and it’s because of their love that stopped a freaking war.

    Ok I'm glad to see in the comments that I wasn't the only kid who LOVED Little Mermaid 2, Melody specifically. I had the PC game and played it all the time, and of course as a literal child I didn't mind the phrasing of the "ariel's coming" song lmao

    I've seen the Tarzan and Jane series, it's not memorable, I recall seeing more turk, I've never heard of some of these movies

    The way I think Mulan 2 would work, is if it wasn't even a Mulan sequel. If you just took the story line of the princesses and Ling, Yao and Chin-Po and based a movie on that, cutting out the Mulan and Shang storyline. A story about women defying their father to be with people they actually want to be with, and see the love grow through out the story, it would make a pretty good romance film.

    Its funny that simba's pride got 1st because. Growing up I watched that movie everyday for years, I knew all the songs by heart and what makes it funnier is the fact that I didn't watch the Lion King until I was 10 years old so I saw this movie long before I ever saw the first.😂

    Beauty and the Beast: the Enchanted Christmas is a guilty pleasure of mine and I always found the villain, Forte to be creepy especially the way he tried to manipulate the Beast which made him a great villain to me. Also I loved the song "Stories" and found it to be a great representation about the love of books.
