    Good video. Something we were taught in a couple military survival schools, was when using the whistle, plug your ears with your fingers before blowing it. That whistle is just a few inches from your ears, and even you said your ears were ringing, and that will hinder your ability to hear anyone trying to make contact with you. It's not just night vision you want to protect. I'm really enjoying all your videos. Keep up the great work.

      Thanks I appreciate that! I never thought about plugging my ears with my fingers 😄 i don’t plug my ears when i go deer hunting with a rifle so i figured one small blast of a whistle should heal just fine. Now when i shoot for fun I do wear hearing protection for sure. Thanks for coming back I do appreciate it!

    The good thing about the little spark-wheel is it can be used with just one hand in case your other hand is injured.

      That is true. As long as you have a good tinder they work great. It’s got to be perfectly dry and very fibrous. If you have that combination you have gold! Thanks for watching and the comment i appreciate it!

    When I was in the military, they sent me to ALSE school. The school was to teach us how to inspect and maintain the pilots survival vests and gear. I had so much access to all the cool gear. Being young and naive and had no clue the kits I could have made.

      Haha 😆 looking back I bet that would have been awesome if you knew what you do now. I love building kits and seeing the components that people and companies have to construct them. Thanks for the short story I like to hear them!

      @ I think the statue of limitations is over, so I will say I did snag an aviation spark light, a magnesium fire starter and a K bar knife. And a very unique jungle survival knife/hatchet. Which came with a round sharpening stone and a Ferris rod. I had access to compressed down sleeping bags, water purification, snare wire, flares, all and any medical that you could think of, compasses, canned water. Emergency rations and the Lindt goes on. Lol

    Leatherman should start making the Squirt again. It’s one of my favorite “mini” multi tools. It’s the perfect little key chain sized tool. One of the main purposes of the blade in these kits… is so a downed crewman or aviator can cut up a parachute. You’re not batoning wood or anything like that. Cleaning small game, hygiene uses, sewing/repair of clothing, and cutting the parachute into all sorts of things (shelter, sleeping bag, water filtration, signaling, camouflage). Modern parachutes have “gores” or sections that are various colors. Each color has different uses. White (snow camo), orange (signaling), Tan (desert camo), and green (woodland camo). Each gore of the parachute is designed to be cut with stitching on either side of the cut to prevent fraying and extraction of the shroud lines that run up to the top of the parachute.

    • @whitetailsurvival2430
      @whitetailsurvival2430  หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Awesome information about the parachute that’s awesome to know I haven’t even seen a parachute since the game we used to play in gym in elementary school 😆 the ps4 is by far my favorite mini tool followed by the nextool mini flagship. Your right about that too they should release a new version with an easily repairable plier head it would be a better option for when they break from misuse or overuse.

      @@whitetailsurvival2430I Have had a PS4 for over 8 years now. On my House key. Most of the blue is worn off and the return spring for the scissors snapped a couple of years ago. Sharpened it twice. Great little tool. Some part will be used at least once week. . The scissors are lethal. Every time I use them, someone gets cut, usually me .

    As a retired armed guard that handcuff key will lock the old school push in locks on cuffs (you turn the key to the left to unlock it and to the right to release it, you lock them to keep the arrested person from tightening them to claim police brutality.) The finger lights I think you had them on "backwards" I think the strap went thru the slot and your finger and not around the light AND your finger.

    Awesome Kit. Awesome video. I’m glad you had good results with your last survival kit video. It’s an extremely interesting topic and many people are fascinated by such kits (especially professional real kits which are typically military but also aviation/NASA and sailing/shipping related) There are two parts to that kit. One is a “medical module” and the other is the “survival module”. Many of the items have dual uses. But the medical focuses, as the name applies, on medical. And the survival is more Escape and Evasion and General survival equipment items.

    • @whitetailsurvival2430

    When I was stationed in Korea, working in a aviation unit, I found the survival kits funny. They were full of water/ocean survival gear, for pilots that flew over land only.😅

    Thanks for showing this interesting kit - I never before saw a Leatherman's in one of them, usually they have cheaper, yet usable gear in them.
    Something like the Aquamira tablets - such a big package and 4 hours waiting time.
    'Proudly made in the U.S.', but the German Katadyn Micropur MF1T stores 50 tablets in about the same space and require only 2 hours of waiting time.
    I'm missing a small chap-stick to go with the Sparky, down in the tube there are cotton balls, which burn well and much longer with some chap-stick on them.

    • @whitetailsurvival2430

      Yes I love cotton ball and Vaseline fire extenders they are awesome! I guess the chapstick is basically the same idea! It was a cool kit but 4 hours seems like forever and even two hours is so long. I don’t think there are many videos on this kit. Thanks for watching I appreciate it!

    Great find, interesting kit---so surprised to see the Squirt, what an upgrade from the Chinese jackknife last time around! All good stuff here. I don't know who designs survival kits for the military but I wonder sometimes if they should just pick a high-quality commercial kit (like an Esee). Be nice for soldiers to have a comprehensive kit of the best of the best. Thanks WS!

    • @whitetailsurvival2430
      @whitetailsurvival2430  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes I thought the same thing about a popular premade kit. Henry has a nice kit and Esee is probably the best for the component quality if this video makes enough funds I might get the Esee kit next depending on what this one makes will depend on which Esee kit I pick up. This is definitely an upgrade on the 1960s- 2003 kit I did last time. I’m guessing this is also a supplement to on body carry also but I would love to get a modern kit from present day even this kit was passed date in 2021 I wonder what they are putting in them now with the squirt ps4 being retired. Unless leatherman is still producing them for the military.

    I don't know if anybody told you. The two velcro squares are infrared reflective identification. They call it glint tape. And you put one on top and one on your left arm.. you say you have night vision. Use that infrared light and point it at the reflector.

    • @whitetailsurvival2430
      @whitetailsurvival2430  28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks a few people did mention that they were IR patches now and I do appreciate you reiterating that because no one has mentioned where they go yet. Some people said they liked them and it was nice to keep them from friendly fire then other people said they get you killed so I’m not positive about what to think about that yet 😅 thanks for the info though I appreciate it!

    • @paratrpr
      @paratrpr 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @whitetailsurvival2430 definitely keep them. I was in the 82nd airborne division. They use them in conjunction with AC-130 gunships mainly. That's what the one on top of your helmet does. It identifies friendlies to the aircraft. It can also identify lost personnel it's a helicopters which are using nods as well.

    • @paratrpr
      @paratrpr 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @whitetailsurvival2430 it can identify you to the enemy. That's assuming they have night vision themselves. But being that this is a survival kit. They are essential. They reflect as much as a strobe light flashes.

    • @paratrpr
      @paratrpr 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      It is much harder for them to see the one on top of your helmet than it is on your shoulder. That's what that little velcro patch is on the arm of new uniforms. That's so you can cover it

    • @whitetailsurvival2430
      @whitetailsurvival2430  28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      O ok I seen that little flap before on there that makes sense to cover it if your in an unfriendly environment and in a situation the enemy has IR tech also. That’s cool stuff to know. It’s super intriguing the way that a Velcro patch can be a piece of IR gear! That is really interesting

    I've never taken the time to watch one of these nodules but they are a lot better than I thought . Those mini leathermans aren't cheap ..i think those UCO's (if you have plenty) are the best single component item to start fires, wind proof water proof, burn up to 20 seconds. Ferro + tabs are good but that's 2 components. A bic lighter isn't water and windproof and a trick bday candle can't do it on its own . Plus if one hand isn't working, it's hard to use a ferro . I've seen people take a few strike anywhere matches, wrap them in jute and soak them in wax but I don't think you can buy them like that commercially

    • @whitetailsurvival2430
      @whitetailsurvival2430  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’ve never seen them commercially like that but I am a huge fan of Vaseline cottonbalks stuffed into a straw and sealed on both ends they burn for a long time for what they are. I like the striker that’s inside this kit and the matches both good options for fire starting. The leatherman squirt ps4 is no longer made I have a couple of them they are a great little tool. Hopefully leatherman makes something to replace it soon. Thanks for the comment!

  • @jastrapper190
    @jastrapper190 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    GREAT VIDEO. That’s what I’m talking about. Each and every one of those components is quality. It’s an awesome kit if you can get it for a good price. Just for the leatherman squirt alone. Lol

    • @whitetailsurvival2430
      @whitetailsurvival2430  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yea I paid 130 dollars for this one which isn’t bad compared to some of them but I figured the ps4 squirt alone in mint condition was worth a good bit of that back. I’m going to keep the kit for future use but if you sold the components one piece at a time I bet I could get the money back for the kit. I think it’s cool to keep though. I will probably test these out at a later date.

  • @jastrapper190
    @jastrapper190 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Inside some of those kits… inside of the match safe will be a mirror. I see that not all of them were manufactured that way… but I’ve opened some that do. I suppose it’s redundant if you have a full sized mirror. There is also supposed to be a “spark light” aviation fire starter. Which is basically a little flint and striking wheel to ignite the wet fire tinder. I suppose like the full sized mirror… the little fero rod on the bottom of the match safe will be your “backup” ability to start fire. Oh I should have watched more of the video. They did issue a spark lite… but in the kits I’ve opened it’s inside of the match safe. Interesting… 🤔 🧐

    • @whitetailsurvival2430
      @whitetailsurvival2430  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yea it was in there I’m glad you seen it 😄 I think with the matches and compass there wasn’t room for the spark light so they put it in its own little container. I have also seen the match cases you were talking about with a mirror I would like to see it in there. I like redundancy when it doesn’t take up much space. The third fire starter is that little ferro rod on the bottom I should try it too. It’s small but maybe it could be enough to start a fire 😂 I like the kit it’s a cool piece of military equipment for sure. Thanks for watching and commenting i appreciate it a lot!

They also have USA stamped on their stuff if it’s a USA made product. I carry a leatherman everyday for work but I wouldn’t tell anyone not to carry a Gerber I have them also. The military used to carry the Gerber MP600 multitool it was an OTF made in the USA tool they were great also. If you look… the brown bag you have… the inner bag… it won’t hold water. It has little circular hole punched in it. The purpose of these holes is to allow air to escape when they put the outer bag into a vaccum sealer. The inner brown bag will only be useful for holding kit contents, light water protection/waterproofing, etc. the outer bag can be used to hold water for purification. As the outer bag is waterproof. It is taught to be opened with care to keep the maximum usable volume for this purpose.

      Yea it actually had 6 holes in it the entire one side was hole punched that makes sense though with what you were saying it offers slightly more protection in case something would happen to the Mylar pouch. I never knew about opening the Mylar pouch with ease when I eat a mre I just rip them open like an animal but now what I know that kit would be a useful component as a water carrier I would be a little more careful opening it. I could still use it for water carrier but only about half as much. Thanks for the comment and view I appreciate it!

    Thats only one part of it its a two part kit the other side is the medical side it would have some basic med kit to keep you going if you weren't to badly injured you would have one in each side of your pockets or vest

      I saw a pouch on eBay for 50 bucks that holds the set I seen the medical pouch also it wasn’t quite as interesting as this module but I would like to have them both it’s expensive also but I thought I seen a sere module one time also that looked exactly like this I haven’t seen it again but it would be cool to have a look at also!

      @@whitetailsurvival2430 yes most of the military equipment is quite expensive though anyone who has served knows military quality normally just means made by the lowest bidder 😂 these kit's are for aircrew fighter and helicopter use survival vests with extra equipment in the seat base normally for fighters along with a life raft as one of a handful of elite surgeons who are also qualified as a fighter pilot I should do a video on my current issue equipment it's quite similar at a basic level in that it's to keep you alive until rescue in hostile environments and with active hostiles trying to catch or kill you through I'd have to leave a lot of the more advanced components that are the most interesting things for operational security

      It's not equipment for PT treatment if you're having to use this equipment your PT is the least of your priorities as you have just been shot down or had a machinery casualty bad enough to cause a crash in which case we assume your med equipment is lost in the crash which is why you're survival equipment includes basic medical equipment

      Excellent explanation! It makes complete sense. This is part of a 2 part kit there is a medical module along with it but I couldn’t find it for a good price so I didn’t get one. It also just has basic medical gear in it nothing crazy if I find one I will go over it too.

      I would love to open one of those old WWII C rations with the smokes. I don’t smoke but maybe a cigar once in a while but I would definitely try one of them and the chocolate gum. I love old military memorabilia, mres, and survival items. Eggs seem not like a good long term storage food but I guess it did good in the can 🤣

      If people were really curious of how much it costed and they watched the whole video I mentioned that I bought it on eBay so common sense would tell you to type the video name on eBay and it will most likely come up to purchase. All the ones I found were different prices as for example I bought the cheapest one I could find which was 134 dollars. I seen others on there for 189 and up this isn’t a regular store item you can just buy so the prices very from seller to seller so spouting out one number that I paid is useless for this kit. Now something that’s in production I will mention or leave a link in the description so people can buy it! Thanks for the advice though i appreciate it!
