Actually the ratchet driver does fit in without any problems in the closed position.
Another interesting video. Thanks for sharing the content. I think I've encouraged you in the past to evaluate the safety pins that come in modern survival kits. Most are made from crap soft steel that bend like bailing wire. Keep one of those pins out and use it to compare with all the others that you encounter going forward in your review process and you'l soon see what I mean about the quality of pins in most kits. Those just look like the good ones that Dritz makes. All others should just be left out of kits, IMO. I believe the smaller line is meant to be tied to the heavy line as a leader. It will be less visible to fish and, therefore, more effective, and if you get a snag, you will only break off the short piece of light line. Then just tie on a new leader. It also gives you two sizes of cordage to use for gear or clothing repair with the included needles. (Did you think the needles were a weird item for inclusion in a dedicated "fishing kit"? I did. A couple of those larger hooks look as if they could be lashed to a stick to make an impromptu gaff to help land a fish.
Thanks I appreciate the comment, I will keep an eye out for the quality of safety pins. Our last conversation actually had to do with sewing needs which I did then purchase a whole pack of Dritz sewing needles and they are super high quality sewing needles. I got a large pack off of amazon with an assortment of 50 different needles. I’ve only got to use two different ones so far but they seem to be awesome quality and very hard steel. I imagine the safety pins would be the same quality. I think the inclusion of the needles in the fishing kit may be just for the sole intention of gear repair. Having the needles in there to makes hooks is kind of useless IMO and the size of the eyes out make me believe it was for fitting the fishing line to sew up a pack or cloths. Thanks for commenting again i appreciate it!
Good review. Thanks!
Thanks it’s nice to hear that i appreciate it?
This is well made, its all you need 🐟🙂
It’s a great fishing kit I would be happy to have it solely for a fishing kit if I needed it. Everything is stamped made in the USA so that’s awesome on its own.
The lock does nothing on my companion i can not even see how it is supposed to work.
I’m not sure what you mean? Which lock? There’s the lock that you set to keep all the tools in place when it’s in your pocket. And the lock that holds the tools open while you’re using them?
Is the fishing line brittle after all this time?
It didn’t feel like it was weak at all but I will use it to catch a fish at the lake this summer. it should be ok it’s never seen sunlight before and very little air there was no O2 absorber in this kit so that little rust was probably formed from the original air In the package. When I was feeling the line it felt new still pliable and 68lb test can be
Thank you and well done. I would appreciate more militray survival fishing kits as well as military survival kits. Keep up the good work. Greetings from South Africa.
I will continue to search for them they are expensive to find but when I find a good one I buy it! It seems like a lot of people love to see what the military carry’s in their pocket it is extremely interesting I will find more for sure thanks for the comment from way over there that’s impressive that you found my channel!
cool
Thanks you were about a day behind this time 😄
I got one of these awhile back. I see they cut out the spark wheel called a Quick-Spark and three cotton balls. Keeping a spark wheel or a small ferro rod with scrapper and adding fire plugs, tinder quicks or hammarro tinder paper to the kit would be helpful. A "Wallet Survival Series": Emergency Water Purification Kit - Purify 2 1/2 Gallon on ebay is slim and would me a great addition. It comes with 10 urination tablets, a 1 liter whirl-pak and a coffee filter to strain the water. Squeezing in a small plastic poncho would add an extra shelter item. GOD Bless you and your families
There is definitely room in that bag for that stuff if I remember right the bag was actually packed fairly loose. I think some company’s keep the purification tablets out to eliminate having to put an expiration date on the contents. Even something small like an aquamira frontier straw would add a lot of capability to the kit
In the new military survival fishing kits, the individual items are in durable mini zip lock bags so you can reuse the bags. GOD Bless you and your families
Thank you and may god bless you and your family also! I wonder where I could go about picking up one of the newer kits that you speak of?
Great video. I am a smaller channel myself and only watch other smaller channels because they have better content and stuff like this is right up my alley. Subbed
Thanks I will do the same for you I will jump over and check your content out and give you a sub also! Thanks for supporting the smaller channels i appreciate that!
The wooden matches look like strike anywhere matches.
They honestly could be. I just never check to see if they are anymore because I thought you could no longer get that style of match anymore.
A lot of items in a small package, without any really being useless. Yeah, there is better, but better than nothing. Hell, a lot better than “survival kits” full of cheap gadgets, like tactical pens and water bottle carrier things.
Yes, actually it is a pretty good kit especially for the price. I have seen these for as low as $15. It wouldn’t be bad to have one just to toss into a glove box or into a larger pack just to have some spare items.
Keep up the awesome work, greetings from italy🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🎉
Thanks a lot I appreciate that from the other side of the ocean! Thanks for watching and keep coming back it really helps out
👍🇲🇾
Thanks again for coming back!
You should do should do some loadout videos.
I have a few kits I could go over plus a hunting pack and some edc packs it would be fun to do
Great! We are constantly upgrading our loadouts. New ideas are always welcomed.
Alright, alright!
Thanks for the comment I appreciate it a lot it keeps the video in the algorithm!
Exceptionally cool kit. I haunted antiques malls throughout the 90s & early 2000s looking for fishing gear and never saw this beauty! Johnsons silver minnows can be cast or jigged up & down, smart addition to a kit that might be used on a liferaft. Awesome find WS and a great review as always.
Yes I thought it was a cool find also! I bid on it and I won it on eBay for a really good price I think I hardly paid 20 dollars after taxes I got on to find one last night and they are between 40-80 dollars depending on condition this one was unopened it’s cool to open a piece of history and have it recorded on TH-cam potentially forever. I can see how that silver minnow could be jigged or casted that is an awesome addition to a life raft kit I’ve been bidding on military surplus life rafts and this summer I’m going to do a video with a kit and the raft for an overnight stay
I always liked this fishing kit and it's pretty rare I believe
It is a pretty substantial kit for how small it is. It’s holding up awesome for being as old as me 😂 some of the hooks I buy get rusty in a year or two so these are awesome!
@whitetailsurvival2430 yeah that's that vacuum sealing I been thinking about doing same to my kit I got in a soap box just for extra waterproofing besides electrical tape
That’s a good idea I have a vacuum sealer they are cheap and the rolls of material are cheap also!
Great kit man. Thanks!
Thanks it was a cool find for sure! All the comments do seriously help with the algorithm thanks again man!
You know that big hook on a steel leader with the heavy string baited with a dead fish on land near water could catch a raccoon.
Yea I mentioned it could be used to catch a larger animal on land with that 60+ lbs test as long as they don’t get smart enough to chew the line. That’s why I was thinking like an L7 trap with a spring to dangle an animal would be the safest bet. Thanks for coming back again! You’re definitely one of the originals and I’m going to do something special for you guys one day if the channel gets big enough!
You're doin fine. I just ordered some 8/0 SS octopus hooks and some 20" green 100lb. test leaders to try it out. Your video inspired me. Thank s brother.
Maybe I'll try the L7
No problem at all dude! I actually just ordered some 100lb braided line for my survival kits I’m making I’m going to try to use it as cordage and a fishing line that takes up less space than 100lb cordage or paracord. I never used bank line because I was afraid the tar would leech into the kit in the heat.
The L7 is awesome. I think I have a short video on Instagram somewhere that I used an L7 plus I used a tree limb hanging over the lake as a spring then I caught a bluegill with it
The red and white spoon is a snagless Daredevil and the silver one is a snagproof Johnson's Silver Minnow.
Nice that’s awesome I do loads of fishing around here I never really learned the proper names I know enough to put a shape to a name but that’s it. I know the basics names like rooster tails, some soft plastics, crankbaits, etc etc. half the time I look in my tackle box and I’m like I need to grab the spinny shiny one with the yellow body and silver bead 😄 I guess the fish don’t know what their called
Excellent review/video. 🙏🏻
Thanks so much I’m glad you enjoyed the video!
It’s correct to say that those large hooks (with a steel leader and 65 lb test could catch a shark or a large sea turtle) but one of the major reasons they included those hooks… is to be secured to the oar of a life raft and to be used as a gaff. Or a sharp hooked implement that you would impale onto a catch… to secure when near the life raft.
Ok that makes so much sense I knew that was a monster hook for something huge but it would make a great fishing gaff you could make a double or make two gaff sticks. That’s awesome to know though! I do wanna get a surplus raft and do an overnight with one of the military kits and the raft I’ve been watching them on eBay I think it would be cool to do!
@@whitetailsurvival2430 I’ve always wanted to get one for the summer. I bet they would make a great one man small “craft” for a day of floating down a river and drinking some beer. Better than a tire tube. Lol.
Use the big treble hooks with the heavy line to snag fish with.
That would be an awesome idea if you were along a lake edge at night or a shallow area where you can see into the water!
At 10:26… that spoon with the stiff wires… the purpose of those wires is to allow the lure to be used when debris is present in the water. Like sea kelp. A normal hook would “grab” the kelp and become fouled. If you “bend” those stiff pieces of wire… is will allow the lure to “glide” over the kelp without becoming tangled. But a fish will still get hooked if if strikes. This is the theory at least…
Never mind… I shouldn’t have paused the video. You already knew the purpose. Lol
Haha I was just going to say that I mentioned something like that quickly 😁 we have a lot of Lilly pads in the lake I fish in near my house and the newer crawfish lures I have and some of the frogs have a long spring around the hook and it does the same type of thing! Thanks for the comment though it’s good to have that stuff in the comments section because some people do skip it in the video and don’t hear it 😃
@ i figure the more comments… the better. Helps the “algorithm” and your channel. It was my pleasure. Love to watch your videos.
@ I love the “rubber worms” for bass. They sell a special shaped hook specifically for the worms which have a “slot” in the body of the worm. It’s kinda a learning curve but if you hook them correctly at the “head” and then pierce the rubber correctly the hook fits right in the slot in the worm. They’re completely snag free as there is nothing to snag. Works great for small mouth bass who like the cover of the Lilly pads. You can cast right in there with no fear of snags.
The red and the yellow material actually served a purpose beyond securing the needles and safety pins. The thread could be teased out and used to improvise lures. Any easy and effective one is to tie a piece of red thread into the shape of an “inch worm” onto a small hooks. Works great as a fly or sunken lure.
That’s an awesome idea I didn’t know that was the case at all! It wouldn’t be bad to tie a fly out of that material it’s very bright colored plus I imagine you could find a feather and some fur if you really looked around. Turkey are fairly abundant around here I find feathers all the time.
That’s one of the good kits. It’s a lot harder to acquire. The majority you will find are contained in a plastic case which is less durable and not as multifunctional. They are one of the best fishing kits made imo. Especially for life raft use.
Absolutely! I think it’s an awesome fishing kit exactly like you said for a life raft. I’ve been bidding on life rafts on eBay if I can get one cheap enough I will take this kit and the sru parachute kit and do an overnight
@@whitetailsurvival2430 I hope you come across a deal. I’d love to see it!
Actually the older plastic case kits have more gear packed inside them, good quality stuff. The only advantage of the newer kits is the metal case. The inside of the lid was designed to be used as a signal device, and the case itself as a cooking container.
@@alex9483 specifically what gear? As far as I was aware… the contents mandated are exactly the same. The only difference I have come across is a nylon line vs monofilament.
@@jastrapper190 Looking at the screen shot of the list on this video and the list on the older kits I have : Missing on the newer kit is "1 packet 8 assorted flies" and "1 packet 6 assorted spinners". The older leader packet has 8 leaders, the newer packet only has 4. Also I think the "assemblies" on the newer kit has fewer items. There are probably other things but I don't want to unseal any of my kits. But the newer has 2 shank hooks and the older has 1. So you got that.
Every time you open a kit, it's like an EDC Christmas present. 😁
It is I do get that feeling sometimes like when I was a kid when I first started opening gifts 😄 the only problem is that these ones cost me moneys. I’m glad other people like too see them and it saves everyone else alittle cash or at least it helps them decide if they want it or not.
Thanks for video
You are welcome I hope you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and i appreciate the comment!
It's nice, but I prefer the Roxon KS2E, which I feel comes with a better toolset, with all locking tools, and overall just feels better made and everything seems easier to deploy. My one gripe would be the pocket clip, which is a bit too tight and can be a little difficult to slide onto a pocket. But, on the plus side, it's deep carry and VERY secure (you could even do handstands with it and that thing still isn't going anywhere). It would also be hard to recommend either over the SOG PowerPint if you ever find yourself needing pliers.
I have a PowerPint and the power liter they are both awesome tools I do really like them I always carry a leatherman wave + when I need pliers. If you like the ks2e you should check my video out on the Roxon flex companion it can be whatever tool you want it to be! It’s awesome I’ve been carrying it a lot!
What were the prices of each?
Believe it or not two years in a row right before Christmas the Votagoo kit was 9.99 and regularly 21.00. The SOL kits were always more expensive 30-35 dollars that kit is now discontinued one will pop up on eBay once in a while for a good price. The Votagoo kit is also missing off Amazon so I imagine it is also discontinued.
@whitetailsurvival2430 thx
Just ordered one before watching your video. I'm curious where I can get replacement wire cutters for it.
I’m pretty sure it will use any knock off leatherman Wire cutters or even ones for the wave I will have to check and see if they fit I would say Amazon should have the replacements
Would not like my life to depend on this.
Absolutely not! I guess that’s the only kit that’s strapped to the actual parachute. The ejection seat and the vest also had survival kits in them so it would be a supplement to the other kits unless somehow you lost the seat and vest other than that you would be SOL
A little better than nothing at all,but not much !
Absolutely I figured a company like Gerber would have a lot more extensive kit!
That looks like it could draw in a alien spaceship. Anyway I like the style and content of your reviews so I intend to drop a like & comment on all of 'em. Thanks WS! You always show the coolest stuff.
Thanks I appreciate you watching all of these videos there are a lot to go over this one is so far back! This video was made before I even thought of having a channel. I just made this video when I got the light and I posted it to show people what it could do that was back when the channel was just my name 😁. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with the channel then I let TH-cam go for a few years then I started marking videos about 10 months ago. After about 3 months it got monetized now I’m over 2500 subs and climbing it’s awesome to see! It’s people like you that keep the channel growing! I really do appreciate it more than you know!
@@whitetailsurvival2430 The channel is growing! This is a tough niche to get a foothold in and you've done it. Looking forward to the next survival kit!
"I know most of you here are over 40" I feel personally attacked.
😅 not an attack at all it’s just what the stats say in my TH-cam studio app. Believe it or not most of my viewers are over 50! I guess people my age and younger just do not care about survival or preparedness. I will be 32 this year and it actually saddens me that there are very limited people my age and younger that watch my content. A lot of older people don’t realize you can subscribe to the channel and receive notifications of when I make a video 😂. I have like 10,000 return viewers per month but I only have 2700 subs that leads me to believe that subscribe button is just not understood
74.3% of my subs are over 45 and 51.2% are over 55 years old. 😂 tech isn’t always the strong suit for people that age. I have to help my dad all the time on here and he’s in his mid 60’s he has no clue what being a subscriber means he thought it was something he had to pay for.
Started the ball rolling today to get my weapons licence here in Queensland. Doing my rifle and handgun safety course in a few weeks. I am going to get the Glock 44 as I want to get into some target shooting. .22 is a good cheap way to do it without breaking the bank.
Absolutely this pistola was so cheap too i paid under 2 bills out the door. The 18 round mag is awesome there’s actually a 22 round mag also. It’s definitely a fun and awesome caliber and platform to learn off of!
@@whitetailsurvival2430 Yeah mate I will be sticking to 10 round mags. That's the legal limit down here. Better than no handguns at all I guess. I will just stock up on 10 round mags. lol
I respect kits of this size. I hate the idea of a survival “kit” which is so large it begs the question, “Okay, so where is your camping gear?” Because, at SOME point - be it sleeping bag, poo-poo trowel, gas stove, etc. - it is no longer a survival kit, it’s just your camping gear.
Your definitely right about that! Some people forget that these things are a supplement to a camping/hiking kit designed to aid you if you run into a problem or end up lost for a night. These kits are not a stand alone survival kit just a supplement
👍🇲🇾
Thanks again!
Dude, I have 2 Leatherman's . One I bought 30 years ago it was one the first multitools out there. I bought a Surge when I worked at Cabelas. Well I decided to add a multitool to the sheaths of my EDC 6 inch knives. I found the WorkPro 18 in1 on a You Tube show and I ordered one in red. I worked the shit out of it and it passed with no prob. So I ordered 4 more. It is just as nice as my Surge. So why would anyone buy a Leatherman for over 100 bucks when the WorkPro is just as good . Well it could be their imagination that the Leatherman is better or a status symbol to show their friends that they have good taste or more money to through away ?? Good luck with yours, you will like it I think.
That is a great point about the WorkPro 18 in 1, you can find those for a great price and they work very well. I guess there’s more of a chance to get a dud with one of these but for the price you just get another one or return it to Amazon and they replace it. This multitool is a copy of the wave with a few changes made. I think the only reason why people still by leatherman is just due to the fact it’s made in the USA. leatherman in a way reminds me of Harley Davidson. Every time they come out with something new and innovative everyone hates on it then they ceased to produce it like the free series I have almost all of the free series, including the knife base tools and it is awesome if it had a quarter inch bit driver it would have been Leathermans best tool they ever made. I think the fact is a lot of older people continue to buy Leatherman products and they do not like when things change, but they are slightly behind in times Leatherman for what they charge should be far ahead of the multitool game. They should be working on some form of modular multitool right now, but are they?
Unfortunately, the bit fits between the scales which means not all aftermarket bits will fit. The Wiha PH2 phillips bit, for example, is too wide and the driver won't close all the way. A shorter #2 phillips bit would fit though.
@@bahjinelson3986 o ok I will have to try some more out I have a few sets of 4mm bit sets for taking knives and whatnot apart so far all of the ones I have fit even the single sided bits worked great. I do have a 4mm to 1/4 inch adapter i should start keeping with it
@@whitetailsurvival2430 That's a good idea!
Where did you find the kit? I would like to get one for my parachute...
Are you serious? That’s awesome! I got it on eBay they are retired military survival kits if you just type SRU-16/P parachute kit into eBay it will come up there’s a bunch of them usually around 50 bucks
I bet they passed information on to the guys who got these kits that cigarettes and lighter that they carried in their pockets as well as the shoe laces, specially on boots, were part of survival gear
Yes that’s true I bet you’re right! I have actually used my boot laces before in a pinch to make a pole saw. Thanks for the comment again!
Seems like it should come with a wristband mount. Very James Bond, or maybe Space Ghost. Thanks WS.
No problem this is one of the first videos I ever made! I still have this thing and it still works just the way it did when I unpacked it. I bet them little darts would stick right into your skin. It’s a fun little adult toy definitely could take an eye out 😁
For multi tools is Leatherman or gerber the better one?
Leatherman is almost all made in the USA if it has the stamp on there it’s made here. Gerber is about half and half. Some of their stuff is made here some id China. They also have USA stamped on their stuff if it’s a USA made product. I carry a leatherman everyday for work but I wouldn’t tell anyone not to carry a Gerber I have them also. The military used to carry the Gerber MP600 multitool it was an OTF made in the USA tool they were great also. It’s hard to decide which company would be better for you I guess it all comes down to looks and preferences to each individual.
@whitetailsurvival2430 thx
Those peanut patties could knock someone out they are so hard
Haha backup weapon in an emergency! it can be used as a brick or striking tool 😃
@whitetailsurvival2430 lol
I can't believe nobody seems to notice that the elongated hole in the accessory piece is serrated to mesh with the knurling of the blade locking screw so it can be tightened and loosened much more effectively than using fingers and not requiring a separate tool for that. I've got one of these and figured this out in the first 30 seconds after unboxing it.
That’s great! Good job at figuring out I found out later on that that’s what it’s for. Typically the little pry tools like that are for small hex heads so it didn’t even cross my mind that it could be for taking the blade retention screw out. It’s not as easy to think when your doing a brand new unboxing in front of two cameras at 10:30 to 11:30 PM after using my real problem-solving skills at work all day deciphering everyone else else’s mistakes trust me you don’t have 30 seconds in a video to sit and think about what an extra item is in a box, people are already complaining about how long the videos are it would be far worse if I paused for 30 seconds to think about what that tool really did and stopping the video and cutting it in would not work because I didn’t know what the tool was for until two days after I posted a video sometimes these tools are tossed in there as extras and they don’t have anything to do with the Main tool that you’re unboxing
The images on Amazon clearly show the tool being used as such.
@@bahjinelson3986 no it doesn’t I went through all the Amazon pictures and I did right now again because you said it and it’s definitely not on there. Unless it’s in the video? I didn’t watch that because I knew I already wanted it the most time I spent on there was deciding what color I wanted then I ordered it 🤷 it’s not the end of the world though we got it all figured out now that the tool can take the blade out. I have the tool in my pouch now but it’s way slower than just pulling my leatherman out and backing the screw off 1/8 turn
@@bahjinelson3986 maybe the next iteration will have a slot for the tool to set in held in by a magnet?
@@whitetailsurvival2430 I have it pulled up. I'm looking at the carbon version and at the top pictures next to the description. The ones you can click on to look at. It's one of the additional pictures under "4+".

Anything that says red cross was designed to make you fail
I didn’t think this one was that bad for the everyday person. Way better than having nothing and the manual has a lot of good stuff in it
