    I’m impressed by Best Glide. Almost every component is of “better than average” to “high quality”. There is the understanding that this isn’t a kit to pull “everyday use” items from (aka the best money can buy… even though some components do tend to lean in that direction). Like having a Leatherman. But it is a complete kit that you can be sure has functional components. Almost all the “survival kits” you will see are garbage. They have the cheapest components and they’re not well thought out. This is a legitimate kit that actual professionals would recommend. Imo.

      This is a better kit than most it has a lot of components but it is a lot larger size. My biggest complaint was the multitool i believe there are better budget option out there for sure. Something like a nextool mini flagship or mini sailor would be a way better option and they are very inexpensive.

    Can definitely see the military & aviation background with Best Glide kits. The components are high quality (though this multitool looks like a junk drawer special) even in their lowest priced kits. They should add Benadryl & Immodium to the meds---could be absolute lifesavers in a survival situation. A tin this size ought to have space for a fixed-blade knife & AAA flashlight but it already looks packed tight. Great review of a high-end kit!

    • @whitetailsurvival2430
      @whitetailsurvival2430  23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think it could fit a light and fixed blade in it for sure. An i3t from Olight would be a good budget option or a streamlight micro stream. It’s a great kit with a lot of stuff. You’re right about the allergy and diarrhea pills. If you’re going to add the meds you might as well do them two also . The multi tool was a slight let down though it would work in a pinch I would rather them add a couple bucks to the kit and add something like a nextool mini flagship. It’s a great budget tool with a lot of functions. Other than that I think the kit is extremely well thought out and there is definitely room to add stuff!

      Yea your right the multitool left a lot to be desired. I would even prefer something like a nextool mini flagship or mini sailer before the tool that was in this kit. They are both awesome budget mini tool options. The rest of the kit was awesome. I would love some artificial light in there also. Some kind of flashlight would be great like an Olight i3t would be a great budget option or even a i3e. Very inexpensive but excellent quality

      @@whitetailsurvival2430 Yes, those whistles are very loud. Actually, there is a proper way to use a whistle and no one does it. Back in the 80's when I was in the military, we went to Jungle Operations Training Center, JOTC in Panama. It was the army's jungle survival school. One thing they said to do when using a whistle, was the plug your ears, due to the whistle being four inches from them and how loud the whistles are. When you think about it, it's common sense to do that, but no one does. Keep up the great work.

    Pretty nice, even if a bit large as you pointed out. A good survival kit is always large if you want to cover the basics, it is too bad that you never carry it because it is so large. Choosing what has to go in order for you to carry it is a headache. What is essential? What is too cumbersome, even if needed? Someone else than me, has to answer that, I can't.

    • @whitetailsurvival2430

      It would be great for a glove box kit or a supplement to a larger backpack,slingbag, or edc kit. I would say this time of year where I live the most important part about survival is going to be shelter and fire. Without those two things right now someone wouldn’t make it outside for more than a few hours. I would even make a pocket kit with a small tool with a saw like a good SAK, a lighter, and survival bivy.

  • @jastrapper190
    @jastrapper190 24 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

    Imo… the only proper way to use that wire saw is to create a “bow saw” by bending a branch (not too tight or too loose). Or to make a frame with a windlass (again… not too tight or too loose). Using the saw by hand is a recipe for disaster. It’s inefficient and you’ll fail the saw in short order. 99% of the users that “hate” those saws… they just have no clue how to properly use them. Those rings… they aren’t for your fingers or for a stick to be put through… take the time to construct a bow saw and the tool will cut ALOT more wood before failure.

    • @whitetailsurvival2430
      @whitetailsurvival2430  23 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Absolutely! Your right it is honestly a waste of energy to use the saw without turning it into a bow saw. It doesn’t take that much longer and it does make the tool last longer. That saw is far better quality than most of the ones I look at.

    • @jastrapper190
      @jastrapper190 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@whitetailsurvival2430 That saw blade is the best design for a wire saw. It’s what surgeons use when they require a wire saw. For exactly what you might imagine. Cutting cleanly through bone. It’s much more expensive to produce but a much better product.

    • @jastrapper190
      @jastrapper190 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@whitetailsurvival2430 i tried for many weeks to “source” that material in bulk. Not the “saw” per se… but just a giant spool of the spiral wire. The old USGI (made to Govt Specs) included two lengths of this wire along with rings attached to a metal piece that had a wing nut that you “inserted” the wire into. When it broke no problem.. you just took the new end and reinserted and tighted again (with a smaller cutting strand obviously).

    • @jastrapper190
      @jastrapper190 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@whitetailsurvival2430 but once you have then “ends”. Or you could easily machine/fabricate other options. It’s just that wire that’s the component you need. I finally gave up becasue I could find no economical sources that would sell it in bulk quantities. Surgical supply entities… but they’re the most expensive source on planet Earth…. As they do buisness with Hospitals… like the govt… where “money” means nothing. Expensive

    • @jastrapper190
      @jastrapper190 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@whitetailsurvival2430 it’s much different than other “cheaper” materials branded as a “wire saw”. Some are just normal steel cable. Some are “diamond” (or other hard abrasives) welded or fused to a single strand. Some are multi stranded. Some designs just use a “braid” of wires. They sometimes work… but not well. And they all fail at considerably less use than that helical spiral type single strand. I hate to give the Govt “props”. But they do do a lot of testing and what their “specifications” end up specifying… those “specs” are valuable. Becasue they’re often the best designs by professionals that have had millions and much time and resources to test out ever different option available.

    Sorry to be a downer but if that kit cost more than $30 it is a total rip off. To put a key chain multi tool in a survival kit is joke, especially one that cost $5. I know people will argue that you are paying for the service of somebody putting all these items together for you. My argument is if it is going to be professionally put together, it should be with serious items.
    You can literally buy a survival kit with the same stuff minu thr tin case for $35 on Amazon.
    Best Glide should be ashamed of themselves if this kit cost more than $30.
    What I would put into a kit like this:
    1.) Victorinox Huntsman
    2.) Sunto compass
    3.) Whistle
    4.) Signal Mirror
    5.) Ferro rod
    6.) Sling shot with ball barrings.
    7.) Sawyer mini
    8.) Medicine cabinet meds and bandaids.
    9.) 3 feet of survival cord or a roll of bank line.
    10.) 2 space blankets.
    11.) Fishing line with hooks and sinkers.
    12.) Candles, glow sticks.
    I would price this at $129.
    Get rid of all those knick knack crap. I wouldn't put a flashlight in this kit unless it is a Dollar Store hand pump flashlight that does not take batteries. These kits sit around for a long time and battery operated items will be useless by the time you use it.

      I like what you would like to add to the kit. I bic lighter would be nice to have as a quick way to make a fire. I don’t mind having fire extenders either. As for battery’s if you get a name brand like energizer or Duracell they typically have a 10 year shelf life so I don’t think it’s bad to toss a light into the kit. Something like an Olight i3t or i3e would be a great budget option that is very high quality. When I’m spending the night in the woods I would rather have some sort of artificial light it sucks only working around a fire it’s hard to get anything done. That should be an edc item but to make the kit a stand alone item I think it should have one. Instead of your two space blankets I would probably add a Mylar tube tent and one space blanket. The tube tents are so much easier to set up. If you get a good one like a don’t die in the woods two person it would be way better off than having two space blankets. It would fit in the kit with a little restructuring. I think you should take your kit contents and sell a few of them on eBay and see how they sell I will buy one to review if you put them up there! Thanks for the comment!

    • @SubUrbanNinja-EDC

      @@whitetailsurvival2430 Mylar tube tents tend to rip as you crawl in and out of them. I rather take a mylar blanket, lay it on the ground and roll myself into a burrito. The second mylar blanket can be the roof draped over bank line tied between two trees. I don't trust bic lighters or any lighter that take fuel as they tend to dry out sitting around. Realistically we make these kits and they sit around for emergencies that never happen. Then one day, we go to play with it and find the batteries dead and the lighter fluid dried out. I guess that is why it is important we inspect the kits regularly.

      I use my kit every year whether I take zip ties or a saw out of it. The battery in my i3e is still good and it’s been on that kit for 4 years. I do regularly check and go through my kit though. Any bushcraft or hunting trip I go on it’s with me. If you get a good quality tube tent it will hold up better than what you think but a space blanket is accommodating the same way I guess.
