I love the concept that what happened in Greece was something so insane and impactful that it shook the other pantheons enough to make them recognize the name "Ghost of Sparta.". I love the reverity Mimir has in his voice as he talks about the event like it was more than just something to ignore. A god went rogue and killed off his entire pantheon. Meaning that even if you're an almighty God, you have to take notice. You have to acknowledge the story.
Well, you also gotta remember that kratos began his god killing quest by killing ares as a mortal. So not only he was a mortal that killed a god, but a god that escaped the underworld 3 times and killed all his pantheon by his own. No wonder why other gods would know him and even fear him, as by the trailer of GOW Ragnarok Thor, the guy that kills anything on site for fun specially giants, spoke to him first rather than straight up going for a fight.
Lol for those who didn't understand Well kratos killed the whole greek mythology so when he says that ever heard of it and boi says no Kratos says" exactly" because it doesn't exist

considering we have no clear idea how these mixed gods existed between each other, we dont know how much he knows. After all, he did not know kratos was zeus son
I like how Atreus pretends he didn't see Zeus and Kratos's phantoms to comfort his father's conscience. He's observant and mature enough to pick up on Kratos's awkwardness and disregard it, respecting his father's boundaries. In my opinion, this truly shows he's taking steps in the right direction from his arrogant ways he had upon realizing he was a God.
i think the same, its crazy emotional maturity to be able to gather that dropping it would best, i couldnt do that now and certainly not at is age, its very strong charicterisation
I love how Atreus gets to know his father well enough to know that not only is Kratos sensitive about his past, he's afraid of Atreus knowing, do he says what he does to make him feel better. Also, his plan was just "put myself in mortal danger to snap my father out of his funk"
I would simply interpret it as "he's very afraid and confused about what he saw" seing his rather composed father be this enraged was a first for him and should make him very afraid. he's still a child.
When Kratos hear Zeus calling him, "Kratos" Kratos probably thinking, "Ah shit... Took me a few hours to kill my father on hardest mode... I don't want to go throught it again..."
I like the scene where Kratos takes the gatekeeper’s heart. It’s pretty restrained compared to some of the straight up bloodbaths from previous games. Combined with his clear discomfort and the forlorn look he gives the corpse, as if to say “I’m sorry”, it shows how he now realizes how much pain and suffering he sows and no longer takes any pleasure in it. And that’s something this game does great as a whole: it shows not just a continuation, but a maturation of the God of War series.
@@justacatwithasadface2692 Violent content is universally known for being more mature than censored or relatively less violent content. I’m merely stating the obvious. There is nothing “mature” about playing a game that was censored for the sake of infiltrating younger audience groups. Perhaps the older games were more straightforward and spent less time on the overused “parent/child dynamic” from Logan and Last of Us, but that does not make it any less mature than the new God of War.
I mean in his heart he knows kratos is a good man so he probably just naturally assumed that Zeus did something terrible in order for kratos to have to fight him.
@@shockmsy Atreus probably figured how much his father resents himself and his past and decided not to press it anymore further which he doesn't, until Freya forced him to talk about himself to his boi
Pay attention to how Zeus said his line before fighting against Kratos in the vision. Kratos is so guilt-driven that he isn't even remembering what actually happened. Zeus sounded so neutral here that Kratos forgot that his own father wanted to kill him. In Kratos's own memories, he thought he was the monster in his past and none else.

@@loserinasuit7880 but then death is one entity, many understood death the same way, only on where souls go after death is different... so that doesn't sound too far-fetched
@@juliusmoe-nstar8942 It is extremely far fetched because your soul is bound to an afterlife state. A spirit trapped in the realm of the living is not the same as his soul is actually trying to reach one of the realms. Souls cannot pass from hell to heaven to any other realm. The game switching to a POV shot while the memory Kratos was beating up Zeus, just like it did in GOW3, and Atreus being the one to pull real Kratos back out of the POV shot, was phenomenally well done
To those wondering who/what that bird is. It’s not a reference to anything, it’s not Zeus’ eagle, it is Hræsvelgr (Corpse Swallower). He or it, is like the source of all winds in the 9 realms. Not much is known about this big ass bird, but only that he creates winds by beating his wings.
Quan Nham Probably. But Kratos will require more than his blades and axe, I mean he didn’t just kill all those creatures in the Greek world without powers from the titans, gods, etc.
It’s amazing the sheer shock and disbelief he has when he sees Zeus again. Even the way he says it is like, “oh man not again”. He did always look up to Zeus and had some level of respect for him, I think that’s why he was so betrayed when Zeus turned on him
Hell, I was thinking the same as Mimir for at least half the cutscenes and action sequences in GOW 3. Cyclops is barely hanging onto the edge of the platform, and Kratos is hanging onto him. What should we do to get out of this? Let's stab our lifeline repeatedly! Weeeee!
@@aviniciussouza100 -- Given how I've played all of the God of War games, minus Betrayal, can't say I would even attempt that in any way, shape, or form. Can't really blame Mimir for having that mindset in the case of this video.

Honestly, one thing I don't see enough people comment on, is how ashamed Kratos is about his past, and how worried he is for his son to see what he was like. The humiliation and shock in his voice when he asks atreus if he saw, and realizing he doesnt care about it, he's just concerned for his father getting to safety. This game did an amazing job at developing the characters.
At 0:16, that is the last place certain people or anyone needs to ever go. The place that is out there in front of Kratos is known as oblivion. Mimir tells him of course to never go there unless he wants to relive all his past deeds for the rest of time itself. So, it is a good thing Kratos took his words serious or else he would have been stuck in a place worse than Tartarus.
@@chadwickdavis8529 in the game, it's shown how Kratos never wanted to use the Blades of Chaos again, because they reminded him of a past he tries to forget. You can see that when he kills the Gatekeeper. He screams when using the blades to kill someone in the most brutal way and even puts his hand on the dead body's chest, a sign of respect, showing how Kratos never wanted to use those blades to kill an innocent person/creature in the most brutal way (by ripping out his heart) ever again. But he had no choice. It was either doing this or letting his son die.
not just that, he felt sorry for what he had to do to him. kratos decide to change and avoid any needless kill ever since his vengeance. but this time he had to kill someone who havent done any wrong to him. and while it was for sake of saving his son, this all could be prevent. his determination for hiding the truth from atreus set the event chain of boy's illness and put the gate keeper in a situation that he has to die
I love how Atreus doesn't even ask what he saw between Kratos and Zeus and pretends he never saw anything. He understands his father has a past he would rather forget and that it no longer matters now.
At 3:30, i do still remember every second playing that scene in GOW3 in first person. The developer made it great to see it on a third view perspective

Does Atreus even know kratos wears the ashes of his family

I like the scene where Kratos takes the gatekeeper’s heart. It’s pretty restrained compared to some of the straight up bloodbaths from previous games. Combined with his clear discomfort and the forlorn look he gives the corpse, as if to say “I’m sorry”, it shows how he now realizes how much pain and suffering he sows and no longer takes any pleasure in it. And that’s something this game does great as a whole: it shows not just a continuation, but a maturation of the God of War series.
Whatever you just said sounds lame. Blood and gore IS maturity.

There is nothing “mature” about playing a game that was censored for the sake of infiltrating younger audience groups. Perhaps the older games were more straightforward and spent less time on the overused “parent/child dynamic” from Logan and Last of Us, but that does not make it any less mature than the new God of War.
