    What I find so fascinating about this interaction between Freya, Baldur and Kratos is the Irony riddling this scene. Freya robbed Baldur of the pleasures and pains of life. Yes, It may have been an act of love, but it wasn't Baldur's choice and his life was turned into a mundane hell because of her unwanted meddling. Freya could never understand her sin, not fully at least. She clearly was able to accept that her son despised her for her actions, but she was never willing or able to fully grasp WHY he was so angry. That is until Kratos did the same thing to her as she did to her son. When Kratos killed Baldur, he saved Freya's life and he did so as an act of justice; however, just like Freya's sin, Krato's meddling was not wanted. He robbed Freya of her son, her meaning, just like how she did to Baldur. Now Freya hates Kratos for the same reasons her son hated her. Perhaps Freya will finally be able to grasp how horribly she cursed her son and the torment she put him through. She is just as despicable as Kratos in this interaction and I want her to realize that.

      To be fair she had every right to be angry. She gave her son permission to kill her and was ready to die and Kratos fucked that up. In the process, he killed Freya's son, and no parent should ever have to bury their child, not even a god. That being said, I think Freya will think on it and maybe come to her senses down the road instead of trying to kkill Kratos and getting summarily ripped in half.

      @@Stargazzer811 Agreed. I also feel that throughout the game Freya always thinks with her heart, rather than being overly calculating of her words and actions. That is why after making Baldur invincible she never once considered undoing the spell regardless of his pleads or what harmed he caused, because he was the world to her and she could only hope he would one day understand. She even went nuts when she saw Atreus’ mistletoe arrows on the odd chance that they would encounter her son, although she had no idea Baldur was in their realm at this point. People hate on her character but she acts like the average mother I know, except to godly proportions lol

Kratos, a demigod who killed the king of the gods, beat death and destroyed a world was reduced to so little when talking about his past,you can tell by the pain in his voice that he may’ve been strong in the past but it came at the price of his life, even after Kratos attempted suicide he could not die. Freya hasn’t cursed him, Zeus cursed him with living a long life while living with the pain along with it. What a way to write a character like Kratos!

    Throw back, I don’t think you included this, but Kratos told Atreus his origins before, not in as much detail, but it’s the story of how he sold his soul. He tell Atreus this when you’re boating, it goes like this:
    There was a horse that wanted vengeance on a stag, he called upon a hunter to help, let the hunter ride him on a saddle. Together they killed the stag, but the hunter enslaved the horse, and wouldn’t let him go
    It doesn’t exactly go like that, but that was all I could remember

      @qsm__redpanda7637 4 ปีที่แล้ว +40

      @@MrTBSC do you actually believe "revenge" ends right after you kill the person that hurt you? All kratos wanted was to kill the god of war and to get rid of the horrifying memories of murdering his family, then Zeus ended up fearing that kratos would be the end of the Olympians so he tried to kill kratos. The point is every action has a reaction.. Kratos decided to live as a man clearly gave him a good reaction, he fell inlove and had a child. Baldur was just searching for a way out of his issues somewhat like kratos... He fought gods just to see if he can finally feel something other than numbness. And after he was cured from his curse, he still wanted to murder his mother for what she has done along with kratos for getting in his way. It's exactly like kratos, he murdered countless gods just go get to Zeus. That's exactly what would've happened with baldur, he was looking for a way out.. He wanted to end his lifetime of torment. The developers literally acted that last line for kratos directly quoting his father because he knew what Baldur was going through, so if he didn't kill him the cycle would've kept going. Now that thors children have been slain along with Baldur... He wants HIS revenge. Now if kratos kills thor odin will want some revenge... And it'll keep going.

      @@qsm__redpanda7637 This is a great explanation. The cycle of hatred never realky ended and unfortunately this all ocurred because zeus couldn't keep it in his pants.
      Although some elaboration is needed. Zeus' fears were a bit justified. When Kratos became the God of war he pretty much disrupted the balance. He even killed a god (thanatos) without permission. Sparta was winning every major war and Kratos grew stronger as gods draw power from those who pray to them (I believe that concept stayed). Eventually the war lead to Athens, basically repeating the same shit Ares did that the gods disapproved of.
      Given all this, Zeus would've stopped Kratos even without fear gripping him. Athena seemed immune from Avarice until she died. Athena without that influence still sought to stop Kratos.
      Thus in a way the olympian "tree" is definitely a messed up one.

    When I was growing up, GOW 3 was the first game I ever played, and I always saw Kratos as this fierce ruthless warrior, but now I don't see him like that anymore. Yes, he is still a warrior, but just not the same one my younger self saw. I remember when I replayed GOW 3 and the scenes with Pandora showed. This whole different person showed Kratos fatherly side because he immediately thought of his daughter when Pandora first called out to him, and now, with Atreus, we see this even more of this. I appreciate that they made him a family man, nothing sappy but genuine care.

    14:54 I wonder what Freya was thinking in this moment. When she helped Atreus recover from his illness, only for the boy to later help his father kill her son? How unfair it was that her son was dead in her arms while Kratos could still hold his living son? Maybe even whether she could bring herself to hurt Kratos by hurting Atreus?
