    Also,I can see why Kratos is surprised that the ones who died old are sent to Helheim.
    "Fear old men in a profession in which men usually die young" is basically how Sparta viewed their old.

      @ricksaburai 5 ปีที่แล้ว +340

      And that's pretty much it. If you're an old warrior, that means you are exceptionally skilled and experienced, but you're still supposed to keep fighting until a younger runt is able to kill you in glorious combat due to the age handicap. Not to just die of old age after peacefully wasting away on a bed.

    • @ricksaburai

      @Top Lobster yes, but it's naive to think of a world without any conflict. There are always battles to be fought.

      real quick to be fair helheim was not just for the old and sick the disshonored dead were indeed punished there like the area kratos and balder fel in. but there were other area's. the idea that that the old or sick where sent to be punished is glosed over here but generaly in mythology there where a bunch of area's based around the person and how they died or treated there deaths. the game probably glossed over that bit when they made it for time.
      but there where nicer places for those who where not bad people in life those who died of say age or sickness were simply not chossen for vallhalla.

      I'm no expert but I've always heard the opposite. Even in the movie 300, (not a perfect historically representation, I get it) they talk about death as a warrior is the most glorious thing, and he curses the mutant by wishing for his long life. I think the whole point is to help warriors not be afraid to die on a battlefield, instead of being afraid and avoiding fights and growing old at home.

He left Greece, started a new life with a wife and son to escape his past and now he’s staring into the eyes of the main he beat to death. I mean, what an amazing way to say that no matter how far he runs, no matter where he goes, or how much he changes, he can’t escape his past and he can’t escape the fact that he is and will always be the Ghost of Sparta, the man who slaughtered the Olympians.

      Valhalla, well, everyone knows that is the halls of Odin, and where the people who died in battle go, honorable deaths though.
      But many do not know of Freyja's realm, Folkvangr, where half of the warriors that die on the field of battle actually go to her realm. The Valkyries could only pick half of the dead for Valhalla.

    I like that the game goes out of it's way to show that dying of old age seems in Norse believes isn't anything to be proud of, yet the spartan finds that odd. Spartans respected old age because if one was able to live long in such a harsh world, than they deserved the same respect as a warrior who's won many battles. Just shows some attention to detail on the dev's part.

    The touch of respect at 22:08 is simply beautiful. This is really deep, because shows us something about ethics. The primitive warriors have an more evolved ethics than the modern men when it comes to the death of an enemy since the primitive do rituals of purification and other things that shows respect to the killed warrior, just as Kratos did; contrary to the modern ones, that in war kills like a machine (at the height of scientific evolution) devoid of any kind of affection or respect. The fact that Kratos comes from a culture that prides itself on warfare, military service and the traditions it entails, he finds it strange that the Aesir treating elders that died regardless of their lifetime spent as something dishonorable. Spartans may fall in battle, yet sometimes they can survive the wars they fought in and become legends for it by dying of old age.

    Whoever made this video is a true and experienced gamer.
    We all love exploring the unknown. I bet if he wasn't recording a video, he'd spend hours here just on this mission.

    I like this version of hell. The further away from the gods you are, the further you are from any warmth.

    If we ever return to Helheim for the third time, I wonder who else are we going to see. His old family? The other gods? Deimos?

    Not sure if anyone noticed but after he is done removing the bridge keepers heart he places his hand on its chest. This could either be a sign of respect or sorrow. He did not want to kill it but he had to
