1:36 “Have you ever been in love? It’s pretty good.” I love this depiction of Surtr so much. I was expecting a powerful and mighty fire demon, but he’s just a dude who likes smithing and loves his wife. Of all the gods we’ve seen, he’s the only one who actually acts his age. He’s not a petty asshole jerking off his own ego or a maniac obsessed with knowledge, he’s just a guy who’s old and wise enough to find happiness in simplicity and kindness.
At the start of the first game, after Atreus says "Sorry" three times, Kratos says "Do not be sorry. Be better." He also quotes Zeus then he kills Baldur at the end "The cycle ends here." adding "We must better than this." So it warms my heart then Kratos tells Atreus "Today we will be better." knowing full well this could be where they both die.
I love that little exchange before Kratos is about to leave Surtr be. As soon as he hears "I wouldn't sacrifice her any more then you would sacrifice him" he knows there's absolutely nothing he can do to change his mind and is prepared to leave without a word. Atreus strikes me as the type to plead with him instead of accepting it-- things only change when Surtr sees the Blades of Chaos.
Yeah, it's my favorite for the same reason. In the past, he might've tried to drag him forcefully to do so, but being who he is now, he just accepts and moves on. Can't argue with logic that aligns 100% with your own, after all.
Yeah, it’s kind of a theme in this game characters changing their minds at the drop of a hat. Kratos, Freya, Thor, Sif, Thrud, Surtr, etc. And people will call it “character development”. And I’m saying this as the biggest GOW fan, Ragnarok had terrible writing. I feel the people praising the story are teenagers.
This version of Surtr does a good job of characterizing an active volcano. Oh sure it can be peaceful and even nice to be around, doesn’t change the fact that it has enough firepower to wipe out a population

@@Sp4rtanRage Theres a prequel that states he tried to throw them away and that they are the ORIGINAL blades. The exile ones he discarded at the top of mount olympus. Its Athenas final way to mess with him even after the pantheon is gone.

if only more games thought about making such amazing movies like this XD the experience of seeing such "living" characters and such a fleshed out story is amazing
@RE Evil It's solely because you can't write him. Every time a series tries to portray YHWH at all it's always a an evil caricature, but incarnate, he just becomes way too mind boggling for them to even attempt to portray. I think American Gods did one recently and they made the most bland idol for illegal immigration that has ever been made. Unless it can match the Chosen, I can't see any video game seriously trying to write him. It'd be a waste of money cause of how bad it's fated to be.
@@ItsDrakkon I remember that cool scene from gow 3 where kratos was flying up Olympus and the fire titan tried to bitch slap him so kratos flew back and killed the titan with a single stab using the blade of Olympus 😂. Young kratos was such a badass.
Lol this game has a lot of those moments. Sometimes you don’t even realize you’re supposed to be moving the character cause you would think you’re still in a cutscene. Definitely seamless transition!
Notice how Surtr was also writing his own destiny to protect his beloved: once the profecy said his partner could die (they would fuse together), he chose to make his own destiny, as well as kratos, to protect the one he loves
love how its probably because his endless waiting has ended, and its also ended in a way that he didnt expect. (Because Kratos lent that primordial flame to him so ragnarok all went differently)
I love how that Kratos used the blades of chaos to end another god world. it shows that they have more power in them and can keep getting stronger and stronger every time they are used in other lands.
so Ragnarok is not an event, it's actually a monster... Surtur the Brave, a Fire Giant destined to kill Frey during Ragnarok in the original myths, it was said that he took Frey's signature weapon, the Sword of Summer, and used it to kill Frey Frey had previously tossed the sword away as a price for finding his true love, and now that decision comes back to haunt him as his mortal enemy found it and was going to use it to end him
Am I the only one here who got surprised by how sudden and crazy 0:15 was? Sure, Kratos and Atreus both didn’t take much damage from it, but do you see how nonchalant Surtr was, sending both of our main characters off with just a simple bitch slap that didn't even touch them. Now that is how you make a 'powerful' scene.
I like it that much i think its ridicilous. From the tiniest backhand creating a huge explosion, the characters not reacting to the explosion at all and then talking to surtur normally after the fight
I like how these characters are just people. Even Surtr before he becomes Ragnarok is just a guy. He doesn’t talk like some ancient being with big words and grandstanding. He’s just like “nah I don’t want to”
Which is arguably the lamest way Santa Monica couldve subverted expectations. They're not portrayed as gods, they're just quirky Marvel characters at best
@@tortyreus2384 i feel the same. In 2018 you could feel the characters are actually gods with their dialogue and point of views. Here they feel so ordinary sometimes.
As much as it can be fascinating to watch Norse related characters interact eloquently, I find it sorta overrated. It’s refreshing to watch characters speak in modern mannerisms. As a bonus, the acting makes up for it. Sure many portrayals can be a hit or miss for some but it’s just really cool how I find them to be portrayed, better than I expected.
You know, I thought they changed the prophecy at first, but then I realized that the giants were vague in the original hidden prophecy. It says how Surtr and Sinmara have to combine to form Ragnarok, which did not happen here. However, they did combine metaphorically, by loving each other and having each others hearts. Quite cool how it all ties together, just like how the prophecy was vague about which God of War wielding a spear that leads the armies in Ragnarok.
Look at 11:32. In that moment, Kratos realizes that Atreus is becoming a steel hearted, cold, calculating general who is there to win regardless of the cost. Kratos is not a talker, he is not a philosopher, he's a warrior who has seen war, and he believes that words ring hollow against the sound of inaction. However, he knew in this moment he had to speak to his son, and that if he did not, Atreus would become everything Kratos wanted to leave behind in Greece; everything he tried to hide from his son manifesting within him. They turned GoW from a fun, well made hack-and-slash god killing palooza to a deep, well written, thoughtful story about war and how it affects and changes people, and how we can be better.
Goddamn, I absolutely adore the short amount of time we see Surtr. They did great with his character. His pained screaming and laughter as Kratos merges his blades primordial fire with Sinmara’s heart gives me goosebumps & chills.
"Atreus and I will be enough" "That's suicide" Yeah, and it'll be worse if God forbid they kill Atreus in front of him *even though I'm sure he's okay in the end*

@@Josephx5504 there's a reason why kratos didn't fight surtur. Surtur is more powerful than zeus himself. Kratos didn't fight him because we needed him to cause Ragnarok
Of course he is. He is more powerful than the titans, or the hekatonkeres. Surtr is the first concious being to emerge in norse mythology. Greek myth doesnt actively contain its ending, but the closest equivalent would be oceanos, the primordial sea, the first thing to take form from chos in greek myth.
Kratos choking up when telling Atreus to open his heart to the Midguardians suffering, is everything I wanted from him last game. A truly sensational experience this series has become.
Seeing Freyr die breaks my heart dude, like they kept his end from myth in mind, but in doing so cost Freya everything. Her son, her brother, so many centuries of her own life, and countless lives of her people, and now she just has to keep living for the ones that she has left. It's such a tragic end for someone who was already characterized mostly through her suffering.
6:31 one of the few moments that gave me chills and made me tear up, this game is a masterpiece. I am glad to be alive to have witnessed it and played it
@@eduardomagana3858 More like in Athena's hands. But who knows where she may be considering her "higher existence" was never really explained. Might make a reapearence in another GOW game.
Ragnarok is far more powerful than any Titan or god he beat, so... I highly doubt it. The fact that they needed him to destroy Asgard instead of doing it themselves (because they couldn't) kinda shows it
Well considering that Tyr is a norse god of war, I think switching him for Kratos, greek god of war, does not make a diference in the end of the world scenario.
I never played god of war but always wanted to try and get in the series. From this I can see how far Kratos has come and how much he’s grown as a person

This is the present Jormungandr that Atreus and Angrboda helped. It's not yet that strong. Future Jormungandr was in Midgard, and that's why Mimir ask if it did follow them.
Thor was right about Kratos When he said "We are destroyers". But this scene shows hes madman and monster. Yeah I know Odin had to be stoped but not at cost of death and destruction
I really grew to love this game series, its like a movie but it feels like a poem to me, its filled with so much emoiton and artistic creativity, 100/10
What an insanely reasonable guy, for being the second ever sentient being in the God created universe, and that he’s supposed to be the destroyer of Worlds and all 😂
15:07 so that’s how Jormungandr was send back to time 😮 correct me if I’m wrong because back in GOW 2018, him and Thor hit so hard that splinter of world tree break and hit Jormungandr and send back in time
@@aeliocantalk4161 haha I was mistaken actually the Jormungandr was sent back in time but that Jormungandr was the one we saw being soul being put into the serpent we can here Angraboda mentioning how it’s being way bigger than normal, so the Jormungandr we saw from 2018 game is still here he’s prolly just chillin now though cuz he’ll let his younger self worry about it cuz he’s not tryna get sent somewhere through time again 🤣
Surtr easily commands his realm, a master blacksmith and used his powers to just enjoy combat. Makes me wish we could see what Ymir was like considering he's the origin of the Giants.
@Vikturus22 I almost, ACTUALLY, almost tear up after the delivery of the line. This version of Kratos isn't the "mortal" he used to be who only kills gods and not care about anything else, he's now a father and he knows that he has a responsibility, he knows that he can't go back to what he used to be. This version of Kratos is the GOAT.

@@jontuxen2724 ok so if that's the truth of how Kratos were given similar blades from athena, then how did Kratos then again have the blades of Chaos by the 2018 gow? I know Kratos is cursed to forever have the blades return to him if he wanted to throw them away. I'm just guessing my friend 🤔🤔👍.
@@Sp4rtanRage Theres a prequel that states he tried to throw them away and that they are the ORIGINAL blades. The exile ones he discarded at the top of mount olympus. Its Athenas final way to mess with him even after the pantheon is gone.
Jesus Christ I love how human the characters are, they all have their own personality and charm, it's amazing how technology allows us to capture the slightest emotions
if only more games thought about making such amazing movies like this XD the experience of seeing such "living" characters and such a fleshed out story is amazing
@@Heavenly-Drakian it's all about the money

Yeaa.. truee. The characters feel very human in writing too
@RE Evil It's solely because you can't write him.
"We wil die seeking Justice not vengeance"
That's a big line and character development for Kratos knowing what he had to suffer and to do on his past
It’s amazing how every character has so much personality, even if their in the story for the shortest amount of time, they still feel alive

@@ItsDrakkon I remember that cool scene from gow 3 where kratos was flying up Olympus and the fire titan tried to bitch slap him so kratos flew back and killed the titan with a single stab using the blade of Olympus 😂. Young kratos was such a badass.
The symbolism at 16:15 when Kratos stabs Thor's hand to the ground.
He essentially grounded lightning - negating Thor's powers.
That's pretty cool actually. Didn't realize that was what he was doing
Yes that was I thought too!

I see Kratos using Pokemon type advantages, such a slayer

Lol this game has a lot of those moments. Sometimes you don’t even realize you’re supposed to be moving the character cause you would think you’re still in a cutscene. Definitely seamless transition!
Notice how Surtr was also writing his own destiny to protect his beloved: once the profecy said his partner could die (they would fuse together), he chose to make his own destiny, as well as kratos, to protect the one he loves
Surtr laughing as he becomes ragnarok was awesome

The transformation scene reminded me of ghost rider when Johnny blaze turns for the first time. Their screams of pain turn into laughter.
love how its probably because his endless waiting has ended, and its also ended in a way that he didnt expect. (Because Kratos lent that primordial flame to him so ragnarok all went differently)

12:20 Kratos almost breaking to tears and steadying himself is beautiful attention to detail and continuity to the character he was and developed from
Surtr was infamous to commanded the Fire Giants from Muspelheim. Using his Giant sword, Surtr would turn Asgard into the sea of Fire.
so Ragnarok is not an event, it's actually a monster...
Surtur the Brave, a Fire Giant destined to kill Frey during Ragnarok in the original myths, it was said that he took Frey's signature weapon, the Sword of Summer, and used it to kill Frey
Frey had previously tossed the sword away as a price for finding his true love, and now that decision comes back to haunt him as his mortal enemy found it and was going to use it to end him
Yep it is
i think it’s both in this case, event and beast
Any magnus chase reader here?
Same monster in marvels thor ragnarok
Haven't u seen thor Ragnarok
Am I the only one here who got surprised by how sudden and crazy 0:15 was? Sure, Kratos and Atreus both didn’t take much damage from it, but do you see how nonchalant Surtr was, sending both of our main characters off with just a simple bitch slap that didn't even touch them. Now that is how you make a 'powerful' scene.
Well he is a primordial fire giant that came after Ymir. So it would make sense he’d be crazy powerful.

That was _less_ than a simple bitch slap. It was a vaguely defined wave of the hand.
@@vaporwingfauxmcloud1190 🤡🤓 Mid piece
I like it that much i think its ridicilous. From the tiniest backhand creating a huge explosion, the characters not reacting to the explosion at all and then talking to surtur normally after the fight
I got goosebumps watching Kratos giving that speech. What an amazing job they’ve done with GOW.
I like how these characters are just people. Even Surtr before he becomes Ragnarok is just a guy. He doesn’t talk like some ancient being with big words and grandstanding. He’s just like “nah I don’t want to”
@meidastouch0 for scamming ? Hell no gtfo

They really upgraded the angles. The blades look bigger than ever.
Quite cool how it all ties together, just like how the prophecy was vague about which God of War wielding a spear that leads the armies in Ragnarok.
this is not just a game, its a masterpeace of humankind
@@vACksdimka don't click it's a scam
Which is as amazing as it is ironic considering nearly every person in this game is a god
Damn the level of change that sindri went thru cuz of broks death… he didnt even care or feared odin after everything
"Atreus and I will be enough"
"That's suicide"
Yeah, and it'll be worse if God forbid they kill Atreus in front of him *even though I'm sure he's okay in the end*

Yes
Practicaly
Who better to lead ragnarok than the leader of the once great spartan army
Yep. And remember the time on what we saw in the tomb in alfheim, kratos was supposed to die but now it is changed to odin.
Well considering that Tyr is a norse god of war, I think switching him for Kratos, greek god of war, does not make a diference in the end of the world scenario.

The General of Sparta, the Ghost of Sparta, the God of War is back. And he's sporting new colours.
I never played god of war but always wanted to try and get in the series. From this I can see how far Kratos has come and how much he’s grown as a person
It is so badass when he says “ I. Am. Ragnarök.” Literal embodiment of THE END, YOUR DOOM IS UPON YOU

if you compare how fast he was going in GOW4 to now you’d know somethings off
maybe cause he is damaged by fighting thor?
Well let's see, this was near the end of fimbel winter, snakes usually need a warm place, plus the fact that Thor in mythology and this game are close in strength, with thor having a slight edge in strength, it makes sense that this could happen.
Yet again, I miss my snake......
Did the snake die?

This is the present Jormungandr that Atreus and Angrboda helped. It's not yet that strong.
Future Jormungandr was in Midgard, and that's why Mimir ask if it did follow them.
Thor was right about Kratos When he said "We are destroyers". But this scene shows hes madman and monster. Yeah I know Odin had to be stoped but not at cost of death and destruction
