  • Fakorizo is the Greek word for lentil rice. Here we have a very simple dish made with inexpensive ingredients that is flavorful and nutritious. Above all, it is very easy to make and a protein-packed vegan dish.

    I made this recipe last weekend for my family with the Chicken shawarma, Tzatziki sauce, Greek salad and Hummus. It all turned out so good. I made a curry type chicken salad with the leftover chicken shawarma and it was divine. I loved this Lentil & rice pilaf recipe so much. I also want to tell you that I really enjoy your cooking shows. Thank you for sharing your recipes!💛

    She sounds like she has a Southern California accent... I grew up there, and there were lots of Greek people in my neighborhood... The kids of the Italians and the Greeks always had a feeling of kinship; our churches were next door to each other, we went to each other's parties and festivals, and we played together all the time. There was lots of similarities in our food and upbringing, and that's probably why we always felt closer to each other than to other ethnicities, although we all got along pretty well in general... As a kid in my old neighborhood, Dimitra would've been given a nickname that everyone could pronounce easily, such as "Didi" or "Dimi" or "Dee" or "Mimi"... I was always "Joe" or "Peppe", never "Giuseppe".

    Hmmm... I was told to "never add salt to beans/lentils/chickpeas/pulses etc until they are soft, because the salt will toughen the skins"... Maybe it's just an old superstition? I've always followed that rule, and I've never had tough beans, so maybe there is something to it? Beans are cheap enough that I could do an experiment and find out for sure, but for now I'll stick with what works. (Salt at the finish, not the beginning.) Has anyone else heard of such a thing?

    I've made it with brown rice and it took me awfully lot of time.
    For those wanting to use brown rice, as I did: cook the rice the typical way, just for 10 min less than normaly, before adding to this dish.
    It was tasty though and I will make it again.

    Yes! Please make your version of the Middle Eastern lentil rice. I’ve made it for many years and always have had to add more flavors to it than what the very basic recipe calls for, like the carmelized onions.

    Orthodox fasting season is now in overdrive. You should consider starting an Orthodox Lent culinary survival guide with 30-40 recipes. I could help you market it. Most of the southern churches are anglo converts and so it's all sack cloth and ashes to get through Lent cheaply and without misery :D I'm telling you... this is a hidden market for you. Doing this recipe this evening along with a Mediterranean take on Spinach/Turnip green Palak.

    This dish is amazing!! My husband had three servings and he’s picky with his rice. I usually like to leave out certain garnishes like parsley or lemon just because I want to eat certain things as is but I decided to try with parsley and lemon and it takes the rice to next level of flavor.

    • @giuseppelogiurato5718
      @giuseppelogiurato5718 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Parsley is the most under-used herb in America (where I live)... In Italian cooking, we use it a lot; it has a nice fresh flavor that goes well with any other herbs and seasonings. If you are trying any Mediterranean recipes, don't skip the parsley! It is very important ingredient; not just a garnish! 😁
