YOUR BODY only belongs to YOU. Only you can access your internal resources that is AWARENESS! You have innate abilities to overcome challenges and limitations of all kinds and learn and grow for a lifetime, and can walk into the exictement and pure joy and pleasure that comes from having the full ownership of your body! You are not just structural/mechanical parts. Your body is not compartmentalized parts. You are the whole. Treating your body as such as if fixing broken machines does not make sense, does it? There's a good reason why structural correction isn't the solution to your health and wellness. Treating your body systematically and holistically makes more sense.
    When you experience pain, you may want to fix where you feel pain. You may think where you feel pain is the problem that needs fixing and correction. Pain is not a necessarily indication of injuries, particularly in chronic conditions. Pain, tension, fatigue are the reflection of the state of nervous system.
    We can appreciate our body even more and we can understand our body better and we can improve our health and wellness more if we study our body from a perspective of nervous system. Studying our body and movement from a perspective of nervous system gives you a much broader understanding of your body and functions. Studying babies's development is exactly that. So we've all been through without even being aware of that. We can now once again study our body and functions through lens of babies:) This sounds more fun than reading anatomy books, doesn't it? Learning movement and our body should be fun. We make it very serious as we make it about fixing our body like fixing broken machines. We are not machines. We don't function like machines. We cannot fix our bodies like mechanical objects. We are the nervous system. We are our body. We are our mind. We are the whole. We can connect with our body and sense our body and learn about our body from the inside out just like we did way back when we were a baby, small child. There was no goals, no judgement, no right or wrong then. It's never too late to start this process once again. New possibilities become available from here. Your strong beliefs that you cannot change keep you from seeing new possibilities.
    Let's move beyond fixing mechanical parts, correcting structure. Let's connect with your body, and learn about your body, the whole, YOU!

    Hi Iwamoto sensei, I have fibromyalgia and Sjogren's syndrome. I have also whiplash, PTSD, etc. I deal with depression and hopelessness as well. Right now I am having sciatica flare up. I have been doing retraining quite a bit, I can now brush my teeth with my left hand and I constantly challenge myself trying to do a task with awareness, and reversing hands/orientation. My left side suffers more than the right on many levels, so I knew that I had to shift relationship to my left side, which I did not realize I was not using as much due to imbalance/achiness. Overall I want to continue building resilience. Thank you for listening and, thank you for focusing on fibromyalgia.

      My pleasure :) I just want you to know that we all have an intelligent nervous system that has an amazing ability to learn and change regardless of age or conditions. The hardest part is that our own habitual patterns (that have been shaped by our experiences) get in the way of learning new things. In other words, if we can let go of what we know, believe, then, we can see, feel, sense, and move in a new way!

    Few days ago, I watched a video on pain in neck and shoulder, and left a comment there that as soon as I listened and practiced what you instructed, it reminded me of vipassana meditation. Now I see this video also pointing to relieve the pain by retraining nervous system. If there is anyone familiar with vipassana that the teacher, Mr. Goenka, recovering from chronic migraine pain, that person may understand what I am talking about. My point here is to support what Taro is sharing may make a good sense. Almost a blindspot of - more commonly practiced conventional approach. Best wishes!

    I have a question. I experience a type of pain that I have been told by doctors is related to stress and anxiety. I seem to feel it in my skin, no physical cause for it. How can retraining the nervous system affect this since it doesn't seem related to movement? Thanks! Your videos are very helpful for many people.

    • @TaroIwamoto
      @TaroIwamoto  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Thank you for your question! First, our culture trains us to think body and mind are separate things, and in fact, we have body experts who work with bodies, and we have mind experts who work with our mind. In reality, body and mind are connected. Body and mind are one thing. When there's a change in our physical body, there's a change in our mind, and vice versa. For example, stress (physical or emotional) changes our breathing, posture, muscle tone, heart rate, digestion, etc. You may think of movement as particular body movements, but everything we do involves movement. Breathing is movement. There's also movement even when you're sleeping or sitting/standing still. So, everything is really related to movement. While we cannot see our mind, or what's happening in the brain/nervous system, we can see and observe what's happing in our physical body which is a reflection of our mind and nervous system. Pain is also a reflection of the state of our nervous system. Retraining the nervous system means creating a new connection, new relationship with our body by retraining movement patterns = creating a new way of moving.

    Good illustration with the glasses but I would have used a liquid that doesn't look so much like urine. 😶

      i'm sorry this wasn't what you were looking for. what were you hoping to see in this video? I will have a few videos that show people practical movement lessons that will retrain the nervous system through movement retraining if that's what you're looking for.
