    I just made the connection (as I did this exercise) why my TMJ has been an issue for 45 years. My past gymnastics years of over rotating my hips has led to years of hip and jaw pain. I had no idea they were connected. I am motivated to correct my hip rotation more than ever!

      Fellow previous gymnast in my youth, landed on my head (luckily on super cushioned mats at least) from a handspring off a vault…I was between 9-11 maybe? Well since nothing showed up as broken on X-rays back then I was considered fine. I’ve never been fine since. At 18 I could barely lay flat without crying to get up. Constant pain ranging symptoms from head to toes. No one ever really helped much until specific chiropractors that also did sports therapy type of work too. I finally got some relief of some symptoms but then never really got any other issues figured out, a decade later I’m finally figuring out my hyper mobility (which was a plus as a gymnast) is also a curse as an adult. I had to stop weightlifting after 8+ years of loving it, body just felt like it kept disintegrating no matter how much I strengthen my muscles. Welp, some key muscles were never really engaging, stronger muscles took over and that over compensation pattern has destroyed me. In the last few months I’ve started finding some info on correlation between TMJ/hips/psoas and proper breathing activating the diaphragm. and hyper mobility issues and it makes so much sense. Gymnastics was so much fun, but I was too tall (5’11) and after the vault injury never recovered properly, no one back then helped rehab me, the internet wasn’t the thing it is now, no TH-cam, I was just a kid and no one believed me over the years of constant pain complaints. Finally getting to see others who have similar experiences and now videos to help try to rehab and retrain my body is so freakin amazing I could cry lol

    This felt incredibly relaxing.
    As an update. I've been doing this every other day when I've gotten home after work and I think it's made a big impact on releasing jaw tension.
    I have TMJ disorder and the areas behind my jaw and under my ear used to feel sore from unconsciously clenching all the time. But very weirdly, after I started doing this, my jaw has felt much more relaxed and I haven't needed to massage those areas!
    Thanks so much for sharing this!

      Wonderful! just make sure you don't make it happen. There's a huge difference between "making things happen" and "allowing things to happen" in the way your nervous system works. Shifting your movement patterns needs shifing your perspecitive, so this is not about structural correction. I'm sure you are well aware of that though.

    This was fantastic!! I was experiencing quite a bit of jaw/facial tension before doing these exercises. I was amazed with how quickly the tension reduced after doing this gentle exercise. It's amazing how the hips can influence neck and jaw tension. It definitely makes sense as they are connected. I noticed my head moving as I engaged in the pelvic tilting; however, my mouth didn't open and close. My mouth remained in a fixed position. I focused on slowing down the movement and getting into my body more. Thank you so much for sharing this! 🙏

      you may think that it's mostly the movements that changed your body, but the truth is that how you brought your attention to your body while moving (meaning you connect your mind/nervous system with your body) has changed how your nervous system interacts with your body! This is why moving slowly is important. Moving slowly allows you to sense and feel your body more clearly and become more aware of your body and how you are moving.

      @TaroIwamoto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you're welcome:) When it comes to finding the best sleeping position, the best posture, the movement, etc, the most important thing is first to realize that your body is unique, and how your body moves is also unique. Thus, you have to know your body very well so you can become the best expert in your body and how your body wants to move, then you will know how to explore, experiment, and discover the best way to move, including the best sleeping position. The only way to learn is to learn how to connect with your body, learn abotu your body and movement patterns from the inside! That's what I guide people through:)

    This is truly worth knowing how jaw and hip is interconnected. Yes, becoming aware and conscious of our body. Thank you, Taro. Well, a question why do we stand our feet in all feldenkrais lessons, and cannot keep them straight? Just wanted to know, it is not difficult to stand feet, but why?

    • @TaroIwamoto
      @TaroIwamoto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      not in all lessons, but in many lessons, we do movements from that position (feet standing) because of functionality. When we stand, our feet contact the ground so they can serve functions (supporting our weight, pushing the ground for walking, etc). When we stand our feet, we can use the ground to move our bodies. So in this lesson, you can move your pelvis with straight legs but takes much more effort than with standing legs. Does that make sense?

    Could you please explain about breathing while doing this exercise? Breathing in and out with the nose? Breathing in while moving the pelvis downwards and breathing out while moving the pelvis upwards? I didn't notice any movement from my head.. Thank you!

    • @TaroIwamoto
      @TaroIwamoto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      generally, i don't change my breathing consciously. instead, I let breathing organize itself with my movements. Breathing is directly connected to movement, so it reflects quality of movement, and state of the nervous system. As far as you not noticing any movement from your head, if your head did not respond to movement of hips/pelvis, there's some muscular activities along the way (between your pelvis and head) that are stopping movement. If there's no unnecessary muscular activities, head spontaneously responds to pelvis/hips even with tiniest movement. i would try to reduce your effort and move more slowly, and really connect with your body and sense each bone as you do this simple movement and see what you sense and notice:)

    Thank you Taro.
    My experience is as usual feeling calm and rested in body and mind. Beautiful feeling.
    As for the jaw; usually I am not tightening my jaw. During the exercise I felt pressure in my jaw when tilt my pelvic back. Not that my teeth are touching but my jaw bones are tightening . this tightness still there even after finishing the practic. Meanwhile, I feel that my tongue goes back more .usually I feel my tongue behind the upper teeth.after the practice I feel it more back.
    Thank you so much.

    I just have a clicking jaw can this potentially remove that as well?

    So it’s trying to rewire the nervous system signals there? What kind of examples are there of this working in that way? Can go over or examples of people who’ve succeeded with this and are there any pitfalls to avoid in order to do it correctly?
    Also how does this work with silent reflux and the trigeminal reflex and vagus nerve connections to the jaw?

    I do have TMJ problems and hip problems. And one side of my face and jaw is more developed- the other side weak and thinner. Would you suggest this exercise to correct the problem or is there a better option?

    • @TaroIwamoto
      @TaroIwamoto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      our body parts are all connected, so improving any specific part really involves retraining movement patterns and improving you as a whole. This lesson can help you sense hip-jaw connection, so improving these connections will improve both hips and jaw as you improve their relationship, really a relatioship with your body!

      sure! your neck is a part of your hips and pelvis:)

    • @TaroIwamoto
      @TaroIwamoto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As all our body parts including body and mind are connected, they all influence each other. Your habitual way of standing can influence your neck and jaw, as your habitual way of moving your jaw, mouth can influence everything below. Thus, we learn to improve ourselves as a whole!

    Hello. I have scoliosis and scapular wings. I cannot pull my shoulders back. I have so much pain and tightness. I’ve seen many physiotherapists, but they never seem to have the correct approach. I don’t know what to do anymore 😢

    • @TaroIwamoto
      @TaroIwamoto  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      one small step at a time. First, learning how to connect with your body and sense and feel your body and movements from the side so you can retrain your nervous system and movement patterns. When you start to become more familiar with connecting with your body, then you can retrain your movement patterns more specifically. Please email me if you have any questions:)

    every time i move my pelvic there is a pressure in my right ear. my right jaw clicks when i yawn and i have tinnitus altho mild but it has been 3 days now. tinnitus gone in an instant and jaw clicking stop when i opened my jaw . thank you. how many times should i do this? :)
    what a weird feeling having to be so be so relaxed haha. I always have tension in my whole body because i want to keep upright with my spine as i have a disc bulge in my lower back. so that must be it

      i would do these movements very slowly with your focused attention to your body, maybe about 10 times. or until you can feel movement becoming a bit easier.

    • @TaroIwamoto
      @TaroIwamoto  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      that's just fine. that's what you have noticed and observed. no need to make your jaw open. if you do, you will only reinforce your habitual pattern, and likely make it worse. so what I would do is to reduce your effort even more by moving less and more slowly. it's a matter of allowing your body to move, not making your body move because all body parts are already integrated.

    As someone with severe jaw problems the only thing this did is make my jaw hurt more. I have severe neck and trap and head tension which make it worse. I'm getting a specialist dental device made and will eventually need surgery. Muscle relaxant help too. Bobbing my hips around does not, sorry. You're very nice but no, this doesn't work.

      Have you tried bioenergetics? Jaw tension, as well as neck and head tension are related to anger accumulated in the body. Bioenergetics help you release it. In case this might be of help.

      Kinship,hi. My jaw bothers me My Chiropractor has been working on it 3 months now.. it's not bothering as much getting better. Now not to say it didn't hurt in the beginning l knew it would .. when there's Pain Usually it's Tightness. l Listen a minute or two then l read the comments. l feel for you l know. I hate you to suffer a surgery. Not trying to tell U what to do.. which I'm sure you have tried everything possible. Others may offer other types that may or may not help. l tried something someone suggested yes a bit sore but it started to loosen up. Just have to keep doing it.. we're All Different & Handle Differently. I just feel Awful for you.. Wish U the very best take care 🙂.. drop me a line to see how your doing. Have to go now my husband is waiting.. sending love and blessings 🙏
