  • In this video I showcase why ProRes 4k 60fps is amazing in the new iPhone 15 Pro. I show you how the phone reacts when an ssd is plugged in the iPhone 15 Pro and walk you through the work flow Apple had in mind while creating this feature. Please leave a comment if you have any questions.

    To help with exposure I’ve started to preserve my settings in settings > camera > preserve settings and turn on for Exposure Adjustments. Then on the camera app you tap on the EV comp on the top to right and I keep mine at -0.3 normally to -0.7 on brighter days. It doesn’t always stop the auto exposure changes that the camera does but it helps a bit from them completely blowing out footage mid recording.

    Something I also found really handy is instead of SSD one can use fast transfer rate SD cards. I have the Apple USB-C SD card reader and SanDisk 200 MB/s 256 gig SD card and it records ProRes log 4k 60 fps great.

      Did you encounter any skipped frames when using sd card + reader? I’ve seen from other videos that it might skip some frames and give you choppy footage…

      In my limited testing no. I rarely use 60 fps, mostly 24 or 30 fps, but it's handy to have that capability.

    Anyone using the LOG recording, i HIGHLY suggest using the Black Magic Camera app....you can dial in settings just like a cinema camera. It also adds ProRes 4444 (which will chew up SDD space like crazy haha) but that unlocks 12 bit color which just insane a phone can do that. Im gonna test this out as a B cam to my FX30 for certain situations where I feel like i can use it

    • @MichaelJohnsonProductions

      That’s true but can the actual sensor output 12 bit? I thought it was limited to 10 bit. I am planning on using LT for most cases. I guess I should test it once my phone arrives.

      If you have some sort of phone with average or good camera, get dji osmo mobile and start working on composing shots, editing and so on, push on quality and versatility can come later when your skill will grow. It's obvious that cameras with changeable lens are better in versatility, but they are crap if you dont have skills to use them (developed earlier). Just for your info, years ago some wedding clips were shot on the iphone 6, so dont run after latest ;) Even I am creating small wedding clips for clients some years ago it was samsung s7(+case with wide lens), then samsung s10+

    If you have Davinci Resolve, you can use the Color Space Transform or Color Management to get from Apple Log to whichever delivery format you want (Premiere doesn't have it yet, but FCP X also has this transform).
    If you use BlackMagic Camera you can load a LUT (I think for Preview). Also BlackMagic Camera lets you choose other ProRes format like LT, which is not quite as hard on storage.
    I think BlackMagic Camera should also provide the setting for Apple Log (haven't gotten my 15 pro max yet to test)

    • @MichaelJohnsonProductions
      @MichaelJohnsonProductions  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the heads up. Someone else mentioned Blackmagic camera in the comments and I downloaded it. Havent had that much time to play with it but it looks pretty awesome.
      Also thanks for the heads up as well with the Devinci Resolve and FCP color space transform. I'll have to try that out. I can at least get the footage transformed back to rec 709 and go from there in Premiere.

    • @MaximoJoshua
      @MaximoJoshua ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MichaelJohnsonProductions yeah exactly, you might also want to apply any other creative looks after doing the accurate color correction. Take advantage of that extra dynamic range the log profile buys you.
      But, you can also probably do the entire color correction in less than a minute of setting up project settings + render time ,can even do it on an iPad.
      Oh, last thing, you can export from Davinci into Premiere XML? Not sure if that is relevant, or you can just take the footage as graded ProRes.
      Great videos! inspired me to get out there and shoot some stuff!
