    Finally an explanation that makes sense. I’ve added security cameras around my property, it’s only a 140’x 50’ lot and a metal garage and a wooden garage. I’m still watching the video and the reviews at the end to decide on which ones I need. Your video is very clear and concise in setting up the equipment.

    I appreciate your video. I’m not a techy person so I’m optimistic that you will read my comment sooner rather than later. I live in a RV Resort/Park in Arizona. The park has StarLink mounted on the roof of the clubhouse/office and it’s about 200 feet away from my travel trailer with a clear line of sight. I am receiving a minimum signal (sometimes no signal), and I would like to know the best way to boost the signal to receive a better WiFi connection. What do you recommend? What do we need to do?

    • @The_Tech_Geeks
      @The_Tech_Geeks  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is a good question. You probably need a good extender. I would think maybe something like the TP-Link RE650 could get you close, but 200m is quite a long distance for an extender, ideally the RV Park should increase it's outdoor wireless coverage with more access points to help.

    Great video. We’re building a new home and I’m trying to figure out how to wire our home. One clarification I’m looking for is, if you set up one mesh unit connected to Starlink and need additional units, are they connected via Ethernet or are they communicating with the mesh -‘new router’ wirelessly? Thanks in advance.

    • @The_Tech_Geeks
      @The_Tech_Geeks  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great questions. They will mesh with the "new router" and repeat that wirelessly. If you can run ethernet to them, or some of them, then that will improve the network even more. I hope this helps

    Fantastic video presentation - thank you. Have learnt so much in a short time. I have Starling & want to extend the router's network. Can I continue to use the original wireless router & then connect say two mesh devices to get additional reach a either end of my house (1 level but Starlink struggles to reach the ends) or do I need 3 additional devices - 1 to become new base unit & 2 satellites? Thanks again.

    • @The_Tech_Geeks
      @The_Tech_Geeks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question. If you want to use the Starlink router still, then to not waste the first mesh device you would want to run an ethernet out to it somewher down the house. This possibly defeats the object of the mesh, so in that instance it is best to put the Starlink in bridge mode and get 3 units. With all things though there are lots of ways of trying things. You may find that 2 units will cover the house with the Starlink turned off, just for the simple reason the mesh units may work out better than the Starlink one. I would probably start with 2 and add another one later if needed. I hope this helps.

      Each extender you need to consider as a user. It will also depend on the distance the extender is from the Starlink router. The further away the worse the signal will be for everyone, not just that extender. I woudl probably suggest you try not to use more than 3.

    Such a useful video, thank you so much for making! We only have a couple of questions, might be a bit silly. We have the 1st version of Starlink (round plate):
    1. Would it work with either Deco XE75 (cheaper) or Deco BE95 (wifi 7, expensive)? Would both do the job?
    2. Does the first/main mesh device need to be right next to the Starlink router cause it connects with it via a cable or it can be anywhere cause it connects to Starlink router via wireless?

    • @The_Tech_Geeks
      @The_Tech_Geeks  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great to hear from you. Unless you have Wireless 7 devices you probably don't need to go for the BE95. The XE75 will be fine or the X68 that we show in the video. As to how close does it need to be - Since the Deco is not repeating the Starlink Wireless, but creating its own network, as long as it is connected to the Starlink using an ethernet cable it can be up to 100m away from the router. I hope this helps.

    • @nflores07030

      So you have to have minimum two decos one that connects to Starlink via ethernet and the other where you want the extend such as another floor. Could I just buy 1 deco and connect wireless on 2d floor to starlink? Trying to avoid buying 2 decos and an ethernet.

    • @The_Tech_Geeks
      @The_Tech_Geeks  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The deco's ar enot repeaters so won't connect to another wireless device (ie the Starlink router) wirelessly and repeat the signal. You need at least one to be plugged in to the Starlink

    Hello! In my case i need to expand my internet range so i can cover up the entire house, I would be using a mesh system (tp link x20 or similar). being that said, do i need to set Starlink router to bypass mode? Can i set up the first deco far away from the starlink router ? So that i have the starlink router broadcasting in the kitchen, 1 deco on main room and the 2nd deco on 2nd floor? or the first deco needs to be right next to the starlink? Thanks and great video! :)

    • @The_Tech_Geeks
      @The_Tech_Geeks  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good question. The Deco system does not join the Starlink wireless and then re-broadcast it. It creates its own network. You don't have to put Starlink in bypass mode to make it work, but if you want the first unit to be some way away from the Starlink router, you will need to have run an ethernet cable to it to enable that. I hope this helps.

      @The_Tech_Geeks  28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Really sorry to have missed that bit. You will see when I walk through the Deco and other vendor apps it asks if you want to add other units. So in your instance if it is a Deco you are setting up you should be able to connect the first one by a cable, then turn the other units on, while keeping them close to the main unit and log in to the Deco app. Then you should have the option to add additional units and it will scan for them and add them. I believe you need to be logged in as the owner to be able to see the plus to add additional units. I hope this helps.

    • @The_Tech_Geeks
      @The_Tech_Geeks  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good question - the 3rd router probably would be best to be set as an access point and then connected to the first ASUS router. If you keep it as a router then that is also fine you just need to make sure the IP range on the LAN does not conflict with the Starlink or the 1st ASUS router or nothing will route. I hope this helps.

    I am confused by something you are doing that I am not able to do. I have the X68 mesh, same model you have there. I set it up, created a new wifi network. All seems well, but at 32:00 you run a speed test but I am not able to run an "Advanced Speed Test" through the mesh wifi. Only when I am on the default Starlink wifi. I am not sure what I am missing here, but it looks like you are able to run an advanced test on the new mesh wifi. I am wrong? I can't this test to work through the Starlink app when on the mesh wifi. Not sure if there is something I am missing here? Thank you for the video, this helped me enormously on getting our network setup better!

    • @The_Tech_Geeks
      @The_Tech_Geeks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the encouragement. It will possibly depend on how you have your Starlink router is setup and your Deco. It won't work if your Starlink is in bypass mode with the Deco as the Starlink router won't be "running" in that instance. My tests were done without the Starlink router in bypass mode, so that could be the only difference. I hope this helps.

  • @simone.giordano
    @simone.giordano ปีที่แล้ว

    I have some questions: is the bypass mode necessary to work with mesh? If yes then i will see only the mesh network right? If it is possible to not use bypass mode, the mesh network will still work? And i will see both starlink and mesh network? One last question, does the extender have another network or does it replace the starlink one?

    • @The_Tech_Geeks
      @The_Tech_Geeks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great questions. You don’t need to put the starlink router in bypass mode if you don’t want to. If you leave it alone then you will have two wireless networks which may work for you. As to the SSID ie your wireless name this will be the same across all mesh devices so you will end up with one single network. I hope this helps

    Great video, but iam not a tech person, can i use any router,? I have some telstra router's, they have ether connections, or does it have to be specified for meshing.?

    • @The_Tech_Geeks
      @The_Tech_Geeks  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If you are looking to be able to repeat the wireless signal of your Starlink router, then you will need a device that has that option built in to it. Generally somethign like a Telstra won't, so you need a device that has that specific mesh functionality like the TP-Link one mentioned in the video.
      If you are just wanting to add in extra access points via ethernet cable, then you will first need the Starlink Ethernet adapter. You will also need to know how to configure the current routers you have as they will often be set by default to run on the same IP range as your Starlink router and so you need to change the LAN DHCP network to something like 192.168.10.1 on your current routers so that it does not conflict.
      Sorry if that answer is a little more technical, but sometimes it is easier to not re-use other routers you already may have unless you fully know how to configure them.

    • @The_Tech_Geeks
      @The_Tech_Geeks  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good question. Depending on what solution you go and how you want to set things up, I would probably suggest you leave the Starlink as it is and build a different network name using your mesh devices. This gives you a fail back and a way to test things if you need and still easy access to the Starlink router settings.
      A neater solution is to put the Starlink in to bypass mode, but I would test and get everything running first so you know your mesh is active and working before you do that.

    Hello Tech Geeks, I was contacted by my director to add starlink Internet at the office and we need to connect 650 to 700 devices at a time in the Building for staff.
    I am thinking of getting 6 starlinks and connecting them in a mesh network with 3rd party equipment.
    What would you recommend/advise in this situation?

    • @The_Tech_Geeks
      @The_Tech_Geeks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, that is a lot of devices. You will at least be able to load balance the Starlink connections. You won't be able to bond them together for a greater aggregated speed (well there are companies that can help you to do this but the traffic will have to travel through their network locations and out to to the internet) You will need a good router that can hand multiple WAN connections as a starting point. There are a few vendors that have those options. Ruijie has one, then most of the higher end router vendors do like cisco etc.
      From that point I would assume you would actually come down to a physicaly cabled network as with that many devices in a building I would image you have structured cabling in place so using a mesh would probably not be so appropriate.
      Not sure this helps too much, but may get you traveling in the right direction.

In theory its throughput will half, but the router we tested managed about 800mb/s so even with half it should still do 300-400mb/s, but we have never tried I am afraid as you often get better results using 3rd party products.

    • @The_Tech_Geeks
      @The_Tech_Geeks  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Good question. It could be one of three things. Point 1 is the most likely. Please only make IP changes or firmware updates if you know what you are doing. Results can be unexpected and it is your responsiblity to decide how to act on the information below.
      1. By default Starlink assigns IP addresses from the range 192.168.1.xxx Most other companies assign the same as a default for their routers. If you are not putting Starlink in Bypass mode then you need to make sure the IP address on your Archer (in this instance) or your Deco is not in the same range as Starlink otherwise traffic will not route and it will look like everything does not work. So in the config of your Archer or your Deco you need to change the default IP and DHCP range to be say something like 192.168.10.xxx and once applied everything may start working.
      2. You have a faulty ethernet adapter. If you have a computer with an ethernet adpater try plugging it in directly. If it works you know the adpater is not faulty, but is the config of your equipment. The other option is to look for a link light on your connected equipment, ie your Archer or Deco. Does it show a green or orange connected light. If it does then the adapter is most likely working. If option one did not make a difference option 3 below may.
      3. We have seen in some instances that the Starlink setup does not seem to recognise the ethernet adapter or if it does it does not seem to allocate out DNS correctly. We have seen these two simple actions fix a number of these issues.
      a. Upgrade Starlink to the latest firmware and perform a Stow and restart
      b. Go in to settings and put in a manual entry for DNS, for example using Google's 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4

      I am afraid every extender will impact the speed in the same way as adding 10 users to the same wireless access point. If you are wanting to add 10 families then you will want to think about a router that can give you some control over how the bandwidth is consumed so that no one family can take all the bandwidth for themselves and leave the other 9 with a poor internet connection

      Not fully knowing your setup and the models you have choosen it is probably fairly difficult to advise what is going on in your setup. If you have turned off 5 Ghz, then that is probably casuing you some issue. Normally you would maybe split it out to 2 network names one for 2.4 and one for 5ghz, but I am not sure which Decon models that is supported on, but it sounds like you need both 2.4 and 5 running to allow you to get everything to connect.

    I'm pretty new to starlink I just installed gen 3 yesterday and the wifi signal is really weak through out the house, I just need an extender for guests etc.. will the TP Link RE450 pair with the gen 3 router through the tether app?

      Good question. Yes the RE450 will pair with pretty much any wireless network and repeat it. I hope this helps.

      That is a good question. The Orbi is a great solution and has proven the test of time so that could be an option or I would certainly look at the Ruijie EW3200 as my main router and add the M32 mesh devices to build on it. I hope this helps

    I just connect my Starlink dish and am getting a dismal 3.7mbps I did the advanced speed test and it shows 171mbps SL speed to router to internet, but 3.7 wifi speed device to wifi router. What is happening here? Is my cable connection no good?

    • @The_Tech_Geeks
      @The_Tech_Geeks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. This means that your Starlink connection is getting 171Mb/s which is pretty good, but that your wireless connection, ie the bit you actually want to use is very poor. This could be due to how far you are away from the Starlink router (not the dish) It could also be the device that you are using to connect with. I would suggest trying the same test when within 1m of the Starlink router. If it is the same then it is either your Starlink router or your device. If it is fast when you are close, then you know it is the make up of your walls and distance from the router and you need to look at adding in some mesh devices to improve the speed. I hope this helps

    Such great technology… and no built-in ethernet without the $60 adapter? Must be an Elon product😅 Could you do an “old-school” WDS bridge mode with star link base and go to a router that way? Guess you pretty much answered that talking about repeaters…. I’m just amazed no Ethernet w/o adapter. Are celluralr networks creating a mesh system or repeating system, do you know?

    • @The_Tech_Geeks
      @The_Tech_Geeks  ปีที่แล้ว

      The V1 version (round dish) had an AUX port, ie ethernet port. I believe the V3 routers will have an ethernet port back again. You can use an extender / repeater if you don't want to buy the additonal ethernet adapter. Cellular networks tend to work on an easier principal and that is you own the SIM and you can put it in any router you like. This normally avoids the issues and means you can create a mesh with no issues.

      As we mention in the video the Ethernet Adapter is an optional extra. If you did not purchase it, then please log in to your Starlink account and go to account and you can purchase it from the shop. I hope this helps.

    I am looking at setting up home assistant and I have Starlink. Do the TP-Link devices allow port forwarding?

    • @The_Tech_Geeks
      @The_Tech_Geeks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great Question. You can do basic port forwarding, but I am afraid that won't help you on Starlink as Starlink does not give you an addressable IP from the outside world as they use Carrier Grade NAT

    Do it properly, cable to Wi-Fi access points. Mesh and extender systems cause bottle necks and are generally rubbish if you live in a household with more then 2 users.

      Very true, but some people don't have that option, so it may not be great, but for some setups it is the only option, so have a place.

      @@The_Tech_Geeks Admittedly, my comment was a bit harsh in it's tone and I apologize for that.
      But as it is, surely you can appreciate that people look for very specific content and help, and people prefer to watch short videos of max 10 minutes, rather than watch 2/3 of a movie. So if I look for "how to connect a wifi extender to Starlink" I already understand the difference between mesh & extenders. So I don't want to receive an explanation on what the difference is, nor do I want to fast forward/scroll through the video to find the answer to my question.
      Now you provide soooo much information in that video. And the individual sections are no doubt very valuable to different viewers looking for different answers. So why not break a long video down into shorter videos with different headings, such as "The difference between mesh & extenders", "how to install a mesh system to Starlink", "how to install an extender to Starlink" etc.
      The last one is what I was looking for, but your video was just too encumbered. So I watched someone else's 3 minute video and got the answer to the point.
      I would bet my bottom Dollar that you would get many many many more views if you broke your videos down into shorter videos.
      TikTok has stuffed the use of long videos up. Nowadays, everything has to be specific and as short as reasonably possible.
      All the best and good luck.

      Hey, thanks for your further comments. I think you may have fallen in to the trap that you assume we run this channel to get views and therefore money from those views. This channel is actually here to answer questions our customers have.
      This video was made around a year ago when Starlink was just starting to get traction here in Australia. It was made for a very specific target audience of around 40,000 facebok users of two groups at the time. That audience had hardly ever had any usable internet at the time, even less the ability to extend wireless. It was meant to be a really over the top explanation. You will see we have put chapters on the video so people can easily jump to the sections they want. You will also see by the comments that most have found it really helpful.
      I have no issue with your point of view or your comments, it is just this video was probably not created for you, as you seem to know the concepts already. This was created for people that did not even know how to put Starlink together or what it even could do, let alone how to extend the wireless around their property.
      This video was created to draw people away from our telephone and email support and create a more self educational solution. From the 75k+ views I believe it has done what we needed.
      I hope this helps further.
