Summoned skull was level 7 in the manga even with 1200 defence and Gaia was originally a level 6 which would have been the summoned skull had it not been for what I can only assume is power creep (same goes for Jinzo).
It's wild because I remember hearing about the Tokyo Dome riot and I live in the US. My dad saw an article about it and mentioned it to me because I was big into anime and Pokemon back then. Never thought I'd get into the game that caused a riot.
That is extremely interesting. I didn't know that news of the event spread into the US. If I knew that I would've tried to find some old newspaper articles.
@@chaosmagician438 I THINK it was a little blip piece in some sort of entertainment magazine. I'm reasonably certain it was not a newspaper, but this was also 20 years ago so I don't recall much. I do recall it having stock, colored illustrations of Yugi and Joey posing to accent the article, and I definitely have clear memories of my dad showing it to me, comparing it to the Pokemon/anime craze at the time.
Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon got a North American release in the TCG in late 2005, included in the January 2006 issue of Shonen Jump and also included in a blister pack with packs of Dark Revelation 2. Still released ridiculously late compared to the OCG though.
It's so weird being subscribed to this dude knowing he's gonna be pulling pretty decent views one day. Do a MtG history after you finish this series. You'll be getting that raid shadow legends and raycon money any day now
The history of yugioh from 1999 is so interesting I always like to review all the points from the starter of the game in the OCG! That was a great video man!
I was waiting for this video. I lived through the first years of Yugioh in the west, but seeing these videos on the first japanese sets is like this secret area of the game I never knew about. It's cool explaining the old game in the west from first hand experience, but it's even wilder getting to see an older version of the game I never got to experience. ...glad I avoided any riots though.
Konami really messed up at every opportunity with the Tokyo Dome it seems. At the very least, people exploiting their proof of attendance probably led to a wider circulation of the Premium Pack, so that's neat
I really appreciate the great effort that you are making to do this. all the research, documentation and editing. I can't describe how much i love all of these series of videos.
Crazy how the meta changing cards were in the common slot, even in the early tcg some were high rarity like Gemini Elf being secret rare. Keep up the good work.
This is a great series, I think you're doing a really good job. More thorough than other channels that have covered the same topic, I hope you continue. :)
Imagine if graceful charity was viable today… it would be absolutely busted in zombie decks now a days. Me- Activate graceful charity. Discard banshee discard glow up bloom. My opponent- …I hate him…
good series, looking forward to the next part! I always thought it would have been fun playing when the game first came out, being able to drop high level monsters with no cost. Plus the rarities of those cards at the time, would have been truly special to have a Dark Magician back then. Always loved how the majority of the monsters had such low stats, would have been exactly like playing Forbidden Memories irl. The old stuff is where my interest will always be, something about the old artwork on those old cards, can't really explain, they just have a whole other feel and aesthetic to them. Never liked pokemon as a kid or now, but when I first saw the yugioh cartoon, it hit right, monsters that looked like actual monsters and cool looking fantasy warriors. The original series isgreat, 5D's was good too, and I do love synchro monsters, best mechanic in the game imo. But after 5D's the game was getting too crazy and the art began sucking big time! Modern yugioh card art looks horrid, plus it's all cute little kid garbage targeted toward weebs. Very sad! I wish Konami would do reprint boxes of the old sets from when I was a kid, or a massive release of old stuff plus all those OCG cards we've yet to have gotten over here in the TCG. I would actually begin buying new product if they did that.
The thought that there was ever a format where running perfectly ultimate great moth was an okay idea is utterly baffling.
Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth was meta in Speed Duels with the Ultra Cocoon of Evolution skill.

Frog the Jam is worth rioting over

Ah, you are right. Thank you for the correction!

Super excited for part 4!
Great to see this series continue, absolutely loving hearing yugioh history not talked about this side of the web

You better be working on part 4 man!😤
Not like I don’t know the history but the way you’re documenting these.. very informative. Keep going!🙌🏼

So Magician of Black Chaos was released first in OCG before Dark Magician Girl ?
good series, looking forward to the next part!
