    Speaking of cyberstien.
    Before the infamous cyberstien otk we know of in the tcg this card was running rampant in an old yugioh game simply called yugioh online.
    It was a similar build to the otk your familiar with but instead of cyber end dragon-(The card wasn’t even out yet. In fact this was before even goat format.)-The fusion monster of choice was Blue eye’s ultimate dragon who would then be equipped with megamorph in order to kill your opponent with one attack.
    If going first the deck also ran a lot of protective backrow like magic jammer and solemn judgement to stop cards like heavy storm and dark hole.
    Spell cards like those were running rampant at the time.

    In the last week, I've watched your series and dude, it's amazing. I really appreciate seeing the humble beginnings knowing what the game has eventually become. I started playing the TCG around 2002 and stopped around 2005. After playing Duel Links for a year and a half, it's amazing to see how far the game has changed and the card variety/deck tech. Thanks for this; it's a really great historical piece for a very nostalgic game to me.

    For those keeping track at home, At the end of the video when starter ex came out, The manga would have been about at the end of Duelist Kingdom.
    I was initially wondering why they're using so much monger art because they're usually bias towards anime. It's because at that point there wasn't a running anime. Toei's yugioh wrapped up with the movie and Studio Gallops adaptation wouldn't even start till April of 2000.

    I agree with your reading that field cards are included in the 5 magic/trap card limit. I am also not an expert so maybe I'm missing something in the grammar, but 含む certainly seems unambiguous and I don't know what else この5枚 could refer to other than the 5 magic/trap card limit mentioned in the previous sentence
    Also thank you so much for these videos. Had been waiting since the 3rd one! I haven't played any card games since I was a kid but this is super fun and interesting to watch. I played Yu-Gi-Oh so I know the TCG rules, but don't have the ability to interpret how good cards are so it's awesome you're able to break it down

    We could always have a tournament based on a Volume Set at a time in Master Duel or Link Evolution

    • @chaosmagician438
      @chaosmagician438  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      True, the only downside is that you wouldn't get to play with the original rules. So you wouldn't be able to do a Cannon Soldier/Last Will OTK for example.

      I'd be really interested in the pre-Summoned Skull format. I think it had an interesting dynamic revolving around 2000 atk/def (Curse of Dragon has 2000 atk, Rouge Doll, Great Wight, and Beautiful Headhuntress have 2000 atk with the best equips, and the 2000 def walls). I'd think we'd need a custom banlist along with the the list at the time (the 10 promotional cards from the video game be limited to 1 since they kind of where in a sense, and Pot of Greed at 1 to make deck building less boring).
      Regarding any format past Volume 6, you'd better ban Exodia AT LEAST

    • @chaosmagician438
      @chaosmagician438  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@thewildblueone5341 Someone in Japan came up with a custom 1999 banlist. I think it would work quite well. He even made a list of what the best cards would be in the format. Here's a link - Google Translate works well:
      gachi-matome.com/p-yg-clm-hamiruton-19/
      If I were to make my own version, I'd probably use your idea and limit all of the DD2 cards. The article above has Crush Card at 3 and I think that's too overpowered when you have pre-errata Sangan in the format.
      That being said, 1999 definitely works best in a limited/progression format.

    That last deck with it's original printings could probably beat a modern deck, at least most of the time. The amount of insane draw power plus Witch and Sangan's effects just needing to be put into the GY to go off means they could probably play through a 5 or 6 negates. Even Called From the Grave, Appointer of the Red Lotus, D/D Crow etc don't mean to much with Exodia pieces at more than 1 copy. Droll and Lock could probably slow the deck down for a turn or two though and Imperial Order might shut it down completely.

  • @silentguy6733
    @silentguy6733 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Excellent video as always! The og tier 0 exodia can defeat any modern deck, but it would have a hard time going second or against certain handtraps like droll or ash blossom, but those are most of the time unsearchable and you could not have them in your opening hand.

    I really like this early OCG stuff and I appreciate the effort you put into organizing it for your viewers. That being said, here is some honest feedback that will hopefully help you improve your content:
    The surprise opening was a great idea. Getting physical cards involved really adds to the experience and gives your content a unique edge. It may be a good idea though to at least name the cards as you present them, even if they're not anything special. Also I think you got some cards mixed up, because your Yugi deck had a Lord of D. in it lol.
    The part discussing the rules was also good. The Main Phase 2 thing was pretty surprising to me and it was interesting to see the origin of these (semi-) nomi monsters.
    I liked some of your humor throughout. It was neither too little nor too much and helped lighten up some of these passages.
    I'm not abig fan of the audio for the set transitions, it's very jarring. Something more modest would be more appropriate in my opinion.
    There appear to be some editing hickups, where multiple takes of the same part of your script have been left in. You also mention a time stamp at some point, but probably forgot to put that in. You had the right idea, but could be a bit more careful in editing.
    I'm looking forward to seeing you continue to refine your content!

    • @chaosmagician438
      @chaosmagician438  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your input and I'm glad you liked the video. You're absolutely right - I rushed editing a bit in this one. I was using new editing software and was still getting used to it for this video. I'll definitely be more careful in the future. The Lord of D. did indeed slip into the wrong deck (the decks are side by side in the box without anything separating them, so it's pretty easy for them to get shuffled together). I should've mentioned this in the video.
      I look forward to improving my content even more. Thanks for watching!

    I would like to join a discord/duelingbook tournaments where we played these historical OCG formats. I already kinda did this with another person on Duelingbook who was doing their own tournaments based on old OCG formats, The latest format that we played was 2002 an I always play Empty Jar.

      Also I honestly don't think last will isn't that good in a format where Exodia is the only Deck you see since the Deck never puts up attack position monsters. I would just put last will (and cannon soldier if you want to play him) in the side deck for the fool that plays beatdown againsts you. You can run better cards in place of the last will package like skelengel/magic jammer/change of heart/raigeki depending on your wants.

    Q: Why is Q&A and Memo headed in English in the rulebook???

    • @chaosmagician438
      @chaosmagician438  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's common in Japanese media for random English words to get used alongside Japanese text. It's a stylistic thing. For example, "Game Over" is ALWAYS written in English in Japanese games, so much so that it would be very strange for it to be written in Japanese. Certain English phrases are so common in Japan that everyone knows what they mean.

      You absolutely could. That's actually why I included it in the final deck list over Raigeki. It's a great way to get their searches if your opponent stops playing attack position monsters.
