I thought the lyrics were self explanatory (no offense intended.), he uses black bird as a depiction of death and the bridge is all about the impact he made in his life. Gotta read all the lyrics to get the song. I think this is proof that heavy metal can be beautiful, it doesn't have to be super aggressive, it can actually be really melodic. Possibly my favourite from the band.

So it basically talks about death and the pain of loss in very sad yet beautiful way

Normally, in the live shows Myles dedicates the song to Mark Morse, the man who sold Myles his first guitar many years ago. Myles and he remained good friends over the years and Mark passed away just as this song was being completed. Slayer, Metallica, Maiden, Pearl Jam, Queen, Staind, Megadeth, At the Gates, Linkin Park, Stone temple pilots, Nuclear Assault, Savatage, Bush, Dio, Testament, Anthrax, Queensreich, Motorhead, ACDC, ....I can go on for hours....but NEVER EVER did I hear a song like this. The emotions this band creates, with the lyrics, voice, rifs, solo...it is indescribable. Even for a die-hard trash-death metal fan. Sorry...the arrogant reaction (I am used to heavier stuff bahhhhh puke) says nothing about this beautiful piece of music.

I am a huge metal fan from the beginning 80's...as little girl, I saw so many bands LIVe. Slayer, Metallica, Maiden, Pearl Jam, Queen, Staind, Megadeth, At the Gates, Linkin Park, Stone temple pilots, Nuclear Assault, Savatage, Bush, Dio, Testament, Anthrax, Queensreich, Motorhead, ACDC, ....I can go on for hours....but NEVER EVER did I hear a song like this. The emotions this band creates, with the lyrics, voice, rifs, solo...it is indescribable. Even for a die-hard trash-death metal fan.

I'm comparing apples to apples so for me, Hard Rock and mainstream metal simply doesn't move me that much. You missed the part where I also said symphonic and ethereal. It's not just about heavy. A good comparing for a similar style would be Audioslaves's Like a Stone. For me, that song does it for me. So long story short, we find beauty in different things and that's ok right?
