Israel has been occupying Palestine for the last 75 years. They *objectively* started and created this conflict, whether or not you personally think they did. It simply isn't up for debate. Now we can argue over tactics, moves, or treaties over the last 75 years from the parties involved, but that doesn't change the fact that Israel (and of course the West and the US in general) 100% created this conflict by stealing land from people that were already there, reminiscent of how the US stole and genocided Native Americans for their land. Israel is currently an apartheid, ethno-state controlled by an uber-religious, fundamentalist group of Zionists that are blood-thirsty for Palestinian civilians. There are also parts of Gaza and other areas that are literal open-air prisons. That's just objectively true in terms of the situation we are talking about, here.
There needs to be ONE DEMOCRATIC STATE for all Israelis, Palestinians, and everybody in the region- where EVERY SINGLE PERSON has the same civil rights, human rights, political voice, and legal protections. Everybody is the same: a human with basic necessities and rights. A two state solution is absolutely 100% impossible as long as Israel is an apartheid state. It just won't happen. It has to be one democratic state. We could do this tomorrow if Israel agreed. They have rejected two state and one state solutions for the last 75 years, it is time for the US to FORCE them to do so. We have the leverage over them: the US pays for Israel's universal healthcare and other programs with the insane amount of money we chuck over to them every year. Regular Jewish people are good people for the most part... nobody reasonable has a problem with Jewish people, besides of course right wing Nazis and US Republicans etc. Zionists are the problem here, because they are authoritarian, religious fundamentalist fascists that want to live in an ethno-state.

I don't think you can regard what he says as completely fair -- in this interview, he often demonstrates biases strongly aligned with US media public framing of its allies. I'm curious what he'd have to say about the Iran-Contra scandal or the US funding insurgency groups in democracies which did not support short-term US objectives -- I imagine he'd just go so far as to call these things "tactical errors" haha. With this in mind though, his assessment is at least well-supported.
Here's an example of his bias in this interview: he observes that Israel isolated Arafat and weakened the PA which gave the Islamist group Hamas an easy entrance into Gaza, and states that this was a colossal mistake in reaching peace. His bias manifests here by regarding this as just a mistake of Israel's in trying to achieve peace. However, this poor policy was highlighted at the time, both within Israel and in the US. It has been part of a consistent stream of actions by Israel to keep Palestinians separated and without unified, trusted political representation.
Of course, perhaps he is just speaking so delicately to avoid inflaming a potential rightwing Israeli audience.

Malcolm Nance really knows his stuff and has the right idea most of the time. I respectfully disagree with him on the issue of the fact that Israel should have not sidelined Arafat over Hamas. Arafat had no real intention of making any kind of peace with Israel even thought his MO didn’t seam religiously motivated, but he did say that the Oslo accords where just an “interim peace agreement “ (al judaibia) -like Mohamed’s temporary peace until he had the opportunity to attack and did so. Arafat made that statement while in a conference in South Africa.
The mistake Israel made is falling asleep at the wheel and the over-confidence or arrogance as Malcolm said at the beginning. There I agree with 100%.

He’s sure right about the Israeli mindset before the 10/7 massacres. I’m certain the security establishment in Israel felt that even if Hamas was capable of a terror attack on the scale we saw, they would reject such an attack as being too costly for their own lives, and those of their fellow Palis. The Israelis failed to understand the nature of Islam and the imperative of Jihad. Remember what many Muslims themselves often say: “ You Jews love life, we Muslims love death.”

By contrast the Israeli public which has also suffered huge losses and displacement, takes care of its own and doesn’t go lecturing the world to give them more handouts. Respect to Israel!

Victimhood and refugee mentality...the Arab Palestinians have continually made bad choices through bad leaders, from Al Husseini to Arafat... In the words of Zuheir Mohsen of the PLO:
The Palestinian people does not exist … there is no differences between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians, and Lebanese", though Palestinian identity would be emphasised for political reasons. In a March 1977 interview with the Dutch newspaper Trouw he stated that "between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese there are no differences. We are all part of one people, the Arab nation [...] Just for political reasons we carefully underwrite our Palestinian identity. Because it is of national interest for the Arabs to advocate the existence of Palestinians to balance Zionism. Yes, the existence of a separate Palestinian identity exists only for tactical reasons"...

Golda Meir lost her job after October 6, 1973( Yom Kippur ). Sound familiar? Fifty years and a day later, precisely the same thing happens. Netanyahu too, will lose his job. But I won't say it was ' just ' negligence. After all, if it happened before it can happen again, but I believe that Israel never even contemplated the sheer horrific evil of what Hamas did on October 7, and face it, you would have to have something wrong with you to think of it. I can't see it happening again, but I bet many thought that after the Yom Kippur attack on October 6, 1973.
