  • If the boot in your MGF or TF is full of water, try this simple fix.
Water ingress into the boot of these cars is a common problem, and can lead to mould, mildew, bad smells, wet luggage and eventually corrosion of the car's structure. It's a simple fix to stop it from happening and costs little or nothing.

Great tip for anyone with an MG/Rover. Boot leaks are quite common on them. Swapping the gaskets over is genius .My Rover75 boot leaks like a sieve, but my MG TF is dry as a bone. Weird.

I guarantee that your 75 has the same issue. It's a handy job.

It's either the light seals on the 75 or the spot welds where the Chrome strip is on side of car.

Thanks for that, just cleaned and swapped the seals over. The nuts on the leaky side were falling off, slowly finding things after buying car last year.
Will see if the seals need replacing or gluing up after a bit of rain.

If only you had posted this a week ago. I have a Rover 25, exact same problem, exactly the same solution. But I didn’t realise it was the lights. I spent hours fiddling and sealing boot seal. Penny dropped eventually.

Well when I eventually get the Delorean, I'll go back in time and put that right for you! 😉

    We found the trunk

Given that the gasket has to fit into three cut outs in the light fitting I would have fitted it to the light housing first

But that's just what they'd be expecting you to do!

Great video, i did this on my mgf a week ago after seeing this. Also checked the drain plugs underneath the interiorcloth in the trunk.
But still its a bit damped. I've been parked underneath my carport, no driving, not exposed to the rain. Checked the rubberseals of the trunklit, but there is no leak and they are pretty new. Any ideas where i should/could look next?

It might be just residual moisture. What have you done to dry it out?
