I wonder just how far Ironwood will have to go before the Ace Ops say enough is enough. Of all the people in Ironwood's inner circle, the Ace Ops are the one's who suffer from blind loyalty to the guy. Now yes Winter does to but I think the fact that he's going after her sister is enough to give her pause.
I'm gonna have to say, it's a bit weird for Yang to complain that Ruby's plan didn't work when telling Robin about the tower is arguably the last straw in breaking Ironwood's trust. They managed to talk him down after the election to stop him from declaring Martial Law, so maybe they could've worked something else. I doubt Ironwood would've entirely changed his mind, but they might've been able to convince him to continue evacuations until the last possible moment to save as many people as possible, gotten the CCT up and running, then hunkered down and hoped Vacuo could make it before the shields break and Ironwood is forced to raise the city. On a side note, I noticed a bit of a parrell between Yang and Ironwood's semblances. In volume 4, Taiyang was lecturing Yang about relying on her semblance to win fights that didn't need it, pointing out that her semblance has the weakness that she needs to take damage in order to use it. In a sense, Ironwood's is the same way. We saw how it could be used correctly in volume 7 when his arm was pinned by Watt's shield. He couldn't afford to lose that fight, so his semblance ensured his will would triumph over the pain of literally flaying the skin from his arm. He escapes and takes the win, successfully defending the tower. Used sparingly, it's incredibly effective. The problem is he's using it whenever he's backed into a corner, and now he's staring down a Grimm the size of Atlas carrying the literal Big Bad. He's using it constantly, and as a result, he can't accept any other path forward. As long as he's using it, they can't get him to change his mind, even if their plan is better.
That's an excellent point, and there's plenty more to add to it. Ruby's eyes aren't yet reliable, Blake isn't exactly proud of her Semblance, and we've seen Weiss take a kicking when trying to summon vs Vernal. There's also Mercury quoting his dad:"this is a crutch, it makes you weak". I wonder what Summer's Semblance was.
@@morlock2012 honestly, I'm wondering if they're setting up parrells with all the headmasters. Blake's got a bit of a parrell with Leo, at least in how she see herself as a coward, but where Leo ultimately betrayed everyone to save himself, she came back ready to fight for her friends, even in the face of Salem. Ruby's keeping secrets is a pretty clear jab at Ozpin's tendency to do the same. So if Wiess gets some with Dorothy in Shade...
@@PhantomNull13 oooh, fascinating. Although, maybe the Yang/Ironwood comparison is less about Semblances, and more about their battle-scars? They both lost an arm recently. Ironwood seems to be taking it as a sign to throw away his humanity, while Yang seems to have learned how to incorporate it into her character. Wouldn't surprise me if Jimmy is going to be presented with the choice visually, Cinder vs Yang.
@@morlock2012 agreed. It was the first piece that got me thinking about it, but there's definitely more to tie them together then semblances. Just both of them have a problem with relying on a sembalnce with a pretty glaring flaw that needs to be addressed to use it properly. Definitely at some point, James is either going to have to choose between hero and Tyrant, because he's toeing the line right now. The problem is I can't see him making that call as long as Mettle is active. Someone needs to either talk him down (at this point, Winter's probably the only one with a shot) or take him down before that even becomes possible.
Pf, only weaklings fear using headphones when starting a MurderOfEars video :P But seriously, all I need to do is lower the volume to a quarter of normal and it is fine. (Of course I have to remember to do that before I hit play )
Appreciate the hell out of your reactions and discussions, there's always been an overabundance of negativity within the RWBY community, and I've always found it difficult to navigate that and just genuinely enjoy the show so being able to come back to RWBY and do so in such a positivity and uplifting way is nice. Excited as hell to see the rest of the season and I have a feeling that Ironwood's actions are gonna come back to haunt him real quick with how everyone in the room reacted and took note of his intent.
Remember that question Glynda asked from Volume 2? "Why must your strategy involve military bravado?" Isn't it exactly what Ironwood and Salem are doing somewhat? And everything is being played like it's a game of chess. So far, Salem has been finding pawns, but no bishops, rooks, or knights? How do you figure out a strategy in this situation to outplay Salem's rule? Anyways, I'm glad you're doing OK. Please, keep reacting and stay safe.
"I feel like they're indoctrinated to some degree." [Looks back at World of Remnant: Huntsmen where Ozpin said Atlas Academy is scrutinized for indoctrination] Yeah, they probably all are. Good thing Weiss insisted on going to Beacon instead.
But what will happen with Winter? Seems like the indoctrination isn't working on her anymore. I think there's a chance by the end of the volume, she'll turn on Ironwood.
Truly the most excited I've ever been for a volume of RWBY. Without a doubt, I know I'll be watching a ton of reactions throughout the volume, and of course, I'll definitely be checking these out.
@@MAK3L_ Honestly, I wanna hear more hopeful songs from this series again, when hope arises. But so far, despair in infecting RWBY, both in the series and behind the scenes with RT. I mean RT deleted ALL the episodes on TH-cam.
@@mystery8820 Well usually the intro portrays the mood for the volume. Its always been like that. For example, when it falls portrayed how dark V3 was. And Rooster Teeth has been having beef with youtube for years now which explains why they stopped uploading RWBY on here
15:36 he didn’t catch the Easter egg. Two of those characters were a part of the team juniper fought in the vital festival. The leader and electro rod guy
-Cinder is always hiding her right wrist. -Penny will probably get hacked by Watts and take side against RNBW at Amity. -At the end of the intro grimm hands that grab Ruby are the hands Salem used on Hazel at v6 when Salem talks about their failure and others that try to reach relic are nuckelavee's. We probably see Ruby's mental hits the bottom and maybe gets captured by Salem. -JYRO will *protect* Mantle and RNBW will *fight* against Salem's forces. -Maybe Winter and Ace Ops will turn against Ironwood, espically we think about chess part when Ironwood has no ally to fight for him at intro. -Harriet will be new leader of Ace Ops. -No need to say but Oscar will be prisoner of Salem. -SDC may came to an end. -Even Emerald betrays Cinder and leave there Mercury wont do. -If we paralel v6 and v8 intro, team Rwby will fall into hopelessness. -And at the very last part of intro reminds me red trailer and also 7 November was anniversary of red trailer, I think we will finally get Summer's past.
I agree about Cinder always hiding her right wrist. Could it be something special that'll help her later on, or scars from her own self-inflicted injuries as a result of her depression in her old life?
As much as Neo and Em might turn on Cinder, I think both of them are terrified enough of Salem that they'll take Cinder's side if she turns on Salem. Also just how it looks in the intro
Love how ironwood shot someone just cuz he didn’t agree with him- He could’ve at least explained his reasoning to him but no just shoot them instead- Also the first shot of the girl cleaning is a hint to cinders backstory and gives a hint of why she’s so power hungry
I mean he also could have put him in a cell. Still a dictator move but far less evil than straight up murder. Even shooting Oscar I think could have maybe to a degree been justifiable but this episode has officially shifted his morality to dark grey if not black. Also an interesting thing about the chessboard scene between Salem and Ironwood, all of her pieces becomes grimm(her allies and army) while his pieces disintegrated without changing, maybe indicating by the end or at the climax of the conflict he'll have no one on his side
It's just the writers being lazy and realizing that most of the audience saw Ironwood as being the most reasonable and in-the-right character last volume and they needed to quickly and slopily turn him into a villian so people would side with team RWBY.
To play Devil's Advocate, Ironwood lost a LOT in a short amount of time just cuz people didn't agree with him. That's got to put a great deal of "I'm done with this" on him. @Joshua D What I find interesting about the chessboard scene is that both Ironwood and Salem are standing on their respective Queen's starting position (you can tell because the colour of the square matches the colour of the piece). Ironwood is even standing next to the King. Although Salem appears to be standing next to the Queen, and the writing in RWBY hasn't always been the most thoughtful about their metaphors... In fact, on a second look, Salem is standing opposite the white King, and Ironwood is standing opposite the black Queen, so the starting positions make sense, the "board" just has the wrong number of rows. Bottom line is, Ironwood isn't the white King.
@@TheRealRightPrice I disagree that it's lazy. Remember, this all has happened within a short period... given Ironwood shot Oscar "not long ago", is it that far to think he'd shoot a grown man who actually had the potential to be a problem? ... lazy would have been to shoot them *both* to make the point and then hammer it in relentlessly.
22:00 is the point I fully lost any hope in ironwood, I still had a spark of it after he shot Oscar because in his mind Oscar would just be a "vessel" oz is in, and killing the "vessel" was getting rid of oz. Now any hope towards him from me has gone. The sisterly divide is fully real as its happened with family for me as an older sister. The intro I love I'm very hyped. But terrified. I mean I think that sums up my emotions towards this season "very hyped but terrified"
Is it just me, or when team RWBY fall through the ground at the end of the intro does it look like they’re in shiny gold water? Like the immortality pool from the God of Light’s domain? Safe to say, I’m scared for this volume. Loved the reaction! Looking forward to your analysis of RWBY vol 8!
"Things haven't exactly worked out". Yang was the one that broke from Ruby's lead and told Robyn about Amity, which was set Ironwood off in their final confrontation. Things haven't worked out because Yang thinks she knows best. Even Blake is staying true to her leader and seems to understand that what she and Yang did hadn't helped their situation.
@@Clorgisclorg The Happy Huntresses are working with Ruby BECAUSE Yang and Blake were honest with them. And they only got messed up due to a super Grimm that specifically hunted them down. If it was hunting Ruby, she would probably be in the same situation as Oscar.

Tbh you're basically the offical RWBY reactor at this point so I really wish that RT would do a deal with you so that RT First members get your reactions a week early like the episodes.
This volume is gonna be dark so let's start the death count, see how many RT actually takes out this round Volume 8 deaths - 1) Senator Steel While I like Ironwood, I gotta agree with you Arnold. He's letting his fear decide his choices. You could hear his fear and desperation in his voice when he spoke to Penny to try to get her to return. Winter probably told him that Penny got the Maiden's powers when it was plain that Winter didn't have them. So he's even more desperate to have Penny. Probably planning on keeping her locked up somewhere so Salem couldn't get to her and use her to open the vault for the Knowledge Relic. And I don't think Salem would get rid of Cinder as Cinder holds the key to gaining the other Maiden powers to unlock the other vaults. So unless Salem bestows that gift upon someone else, Cinder is just a willing pawn in Salem's game. And Neo looks none too happy that Cinder was taking the credit for something she did. Something tells me Neo is gonna royally kick someone's ass over it.
You said you had plans for a Most Shocking Moment category for the Ozcars for Volume 8... one episode in and we already have a nominee! *EXTREME Spoilers* (To anyone who hasnt watched the episode already) 1) I dont know how to feel about the opening song quite yet.... buuuuut, the opening? Holy shit there are some teasers in there... Did... Dude Ruby Weiss Blake and Nora fall into the fucking Pool of Immortality? They all had that same yellow glow effect over them like when Salem was first dropped into it. 2) Oscar still holds off on the information that Ozpin is back **sigh** round and round we go. He could have just said "Oz is back but i get to talk to him first" or something 3) I really like Penny's new attitude 4) Ironwood's new arm is fucking sick as hell, also does Winter have a new arm or is that just some sick as fuck new shoulder armor shes got on? 5) Ironwood has lost it... officially without question... I think you know why
If the Immortality Pool is still working, why didn't Ozpin use it? Does he love to die? And why he didn't make all people immortal to protect them from Salem? I think that even if Salem had staked out this place, Ozpin could break through there alone or with the Maidens.
I talk with friends and we think that Winter arms are wounded but not so much that she will not recover and in meantime she is using exoskeleton to be " Combat Ready".
Crackpot theory: they are able to repair amity and get things going but at that point salem is ready to attack and the tower can't make it quick enough due to her forces being too close so ruby has to stay on amity to defend it from grimm and she is thought dead by her team or actually dead but I find that unlikely but it also goes with her scythe being alone at the end but who knows just crazy theory
I don't think of this as a spoiler but more of maybe foreshadowing but the dact tgat Ruby isnt holding Crescent Rose at the end of the intro worries me

I don’t feel like Harriet *is* really complacent to what Ironwood did. I feel like she knows that if she takes what appears to be *any* step out of line from here on out it’ll be *her* on the floor next time. Ironwood’s not taking any more chances, any insubordination from here on out will be a death sentence.
I have so many reasons to leave a like for this video, one of the best is the earrape warnings... the anticipation to start the episode... the research into RWBY. Dude, ur the fucking best

I honestly completely missed his semblance. 🤦🏾♀️

But seriously, all I need to do is lower the volume to a quarter of normal and it is fine.
(Of course I have to remember to do that before I hit play )
Too late.....
Completely agree. I thank God for Arnold and his channel.
Same here
Remember that question Glynda asked from Volume 2? "Why must your strategy involve military bravado?" Isn't it exactly what Ironwood and Salem are doing somewhat? And everything is being played like it's a game of chess. So far, Salem has been finding pawns, but no bishops, rooks, or knights? How do you figure out a strategy in this situation to outplay Salem's rule?
Anyways, I'm glad you're doing OK. Please, keep reacting and stay safe.
"I feel like they're indoctrinated to some degree."
[Looks back at World of Remnant: Huntsmen where Ozpin said Atlas Academy is scrutinized for indoctrination] Yeah, they probably all are. Good thing Weiss insisted on going to Beacon instead.
But what will happen with Winter? Seems like the indoctrination isn't working on her anymore. I think there's a chance by the end of the volume, she'll turn on Ironwood.
@@nicholasseaks95 Me after Vol. 8: Well, wish granted, I guess. O.O

@@mystery8820 seems that way
@@MAK3L_
Honestly, I wanna hear more hopeful songs from this series again, when hope arises.
And Rooster Teeth has been having beef with youtube for years now which explains why they stopped uploading RWBY on here
I just had a thought: is the woman scrubbing the floor in the beginning Cinder?!
Yes, she seems to be.
Yes it’s a reference to Cinderella, her basis
lol i don't understand why i never get the idea of "Cinderella", now that makes sense!
I mean they transitioned to Cinder right after it wouldn’t make sense if they showed us this random person for a few seconds just for the heck of it
I can already hear him scream. It feels so good to be back
15:36 he didn’t catch the Easter egg. Two of those characters were a part of the team juniper fought in the vital festival. The leader and electro rod guy
Penny’s gonna get hacked. That opening said it all. Calling it now...
Also just how it looks in the intro
no
@RAJAY TAYLOR At this point, Cinder could be the destroyer of Salem.
I love that they played the instrumental acoustic version of "Hero"
It's good to be here, and I can't wait to see my boi and girl Mercury and Emerald. And who knows, maybe we'll get to see some VERY OLD faces
One of my favorite lines ever “just because you’re more valuable than a pawn doesn’t make you a player”
Imagine a RWBY chess set, i would definitely buy that ^^
@@myladynaynay i dont play chess like that but i promise id learn after seeing the symbolize with chess pieces in ruby from volume 1
Love how ironwood shot someone just cuz he didn’t agree with him-
He could’ve at least explained his reasoning to him but no just shoot them instead-
Also the first shot of the girl cleaning is a hint to cinders backstory and gives a hint of why she’s so power hungry
Him shooting Sleet was lazy writing
Ruby:
*puts up bright red hood to disguise herself*
*stealth 1000*
Me: *they’re going to bring her hood back!!* 🤩
I hope the song “I May Fall” appears in this volume
I’m making sad soundtrack fan noises
22:00 is the point I fully lost any hope in ironwood, I still had a spark of it after he shot Oscar because in his mind Oscar would just be a "vessel" oz is in, and killing the "vessel" was getting rid of oz. Now any hope towards him from me has gone.
The sisterly divide is fully real as its happened with family for me as an older sister.
The intro I love I'm very hyped. But terrified. I mean I think that sums up my emotions towards this season "very hyped but terrified"
Oh yeah! Definitely coming back here after watching Chapter 2
I can literally hear this image LMAO 🤣
"Pictures you can hear"
Is it just me, or when team RWBY fall through the ground at the end of the intro does it look like they’re in shiny gold water? Like the immortality pool from the God of Light’s domain?
Safe to say, I’m scared for this volume.
Loved the reaction! Looking forward to your analysis of RWBY vol 8!
One thing I noticed is that during the opening, specifically the chessboard scene, Salem is in the position of THE BLACK QUEEN.
Chapter 2 says otherwise
@@AZDfox Does it? Because it seemed Yang's team got jacked up while Ruby's team is running smoothly. So "things haven't exactly worked out".
@@Clorgisclorg The Happy Huntresses are working with Ruby BECAUSE Yang and Blake were honest with them. And they only got messed up due to a super Grimm that specifically hunted them down. If it was hunting Ruby, she would probably be in the same situation as Oscar.
Yeah but Ruby also lied to Ironwood, yeah he's crazy now, but she did exactly what Ozpin did without any consequences.
@@totallynotafanficreader7850 the difference is that before everything went sideways, she did tell him the truth at the Shnee's house. He was shocked, but he was able to put it all down and just say "please no more secrets, I don't think I can handle it"; which is him saying he's hoping now they can be on the right foot... This volume is gonna be dark so let's start the death count, see how many RT actually takes out this round
Volume 8 deaths - 1) Senator Steel
While I like Ironwood, I gotta agree with you Arnold.
Maybe obscure but anyone else like how Ironwood’s voice cracks on “Mantle?”
I'm just happy that Blake and Yang get to be characters again. They were so attached at the hip in V7 it was like they did the fusion dance.

4) Ironwood's new arm is fucking sick as hell, also does Winter have a new arm or is that just some sick as fuck new shoulder armor shes got on?
5) Ironwood has lost it... officially without question... I think you know why
If the Immortality Pool is still working, why didn't Ozpin use it? Does he love to die? And why he didn't make all people immortal to protect them from Salem? I think that even if Salem had staked out this place, Ozpin could break through there alone or with the Maidens.
